hi all i just received a 5200mah extended battery with back cover.
after i give it its full charge i will let you all know what kind of life im getting out of it, my battery i got with the note don't even last a full day with lite use so im trying out this extended one.
the battery is 2 1/2 x the size of the original one and the battery cover is a great fit with a rubbery feel to it and standoffs just little nubs to keep the back of the phone off of the surface it is sitting on.
it took only a few days to show up and $9.39 you cant beat the price.
they also have nice cases and accessories almost all under 10 dollars.

its 1:05 pm Monday Aug 18th battery is at 100%, will update throughout the day or hopefully days
keeping an eye out for more updates...
i'm a bit disappointed with the stock battery as well.. been looking for an alternate.. but i didnt really want a bulging-out battery with a whole new back cover.. ultimately, i've got no choice..

it is now 6:30pm and sitting at 73 percent battery with heavy use since my phone is my main computer so wifi always on emails about 20, sms about 10, talk about 30 min, internet a lot and music 1hr.
so from 1:05 to 6:30 thats 27 percent in 5hr 25min, way better than oem.
will update a lil later on life, going to get some netflix in on the phone.
27 percent loss in 5 1/2 hours, i would be charging my oem by now.
the site i got it off of is a great site and there cases are also nice and well under 10 and some under 5 with free shipping on anything.
How'd the cover fit?

it was shipped out on the 8th from nj usa and arrived on the 10th, it took so long to start reviewing it because i was in tacoma with family.
the cover is tight, nice and no gaps, has a rubber style finish with a good feel.
i didnt think i would like the taper area on the battery cover but it makes it easier to hold the phone.
it is at http://tmart.com and here is a link
http://www.tmart.com/search.html?q=i717
look up the cases also.
down to 65 percent 10:00pm my time so 1:05 to 10:00 5 mins shy of 9hrs heavy use and still have over half power.
i will update tomorrow since its late and im ready for bed but all in all you can get over 18 hours easy with heavy use and over 24 hours on lite use maybe a few days.
when i say heavy use i mean the only thing i do on the pc is firmware and forum posts everything else i do on my phone, ie, netflix, youtube, music, mms sms talk, camera and also use it for music in the car and much more so im always on my phone.
11:08 pm down to 63%

WOW! $9.39!!!! That's awesome but at the same time scares me. The Mugen extended battery is $95. That's a huge difference. Keep us posted on the performance after a few days. I am gonna order one right now. Even if it sucks I only spent $10 lol....I've bought bigger P.O.S. for more money so.....

Mine was working perfect, until it just upped and died on me. It had 50% or so battery life, walked from work to the shuttle to go to the parking lot, and its completely dead.
It was only $10, but just beware, my battery only lasted a few months.
woke up this morning and around 9am it was sitting at 55 percent so 20 hours and less than 50 percent drop not bad

i have only had to return one item to tmart and that was a laser pointer but they have great customer service and exchanged it without no problems.
we get our wireless controllers, phone items and lots of other stuff from there.
my issue with the oem battery is i drove from tacoma wa to spokane wa a 4.5 hr drive and had my phone in my pocket the whole time, well when i got home i was sitting at 20 percent battery after only 4.5 hours and no real use.
thats why i decided to go with a extended, i figured if i even got a few more hours i would be happy but this battery went way beyond a few hours.
my phone don't seem to be heating up like it used to could be related or not just saying.
Got the battery to die it took 24 hours but I did a full backup using cwm and flashed 3 roms and re installed all apps with each rom install just to test them out after flashing, backups and all put a lot of stress on the phone so in all I will say its a great battery.
Screen on time for my phone was almost 10hrs

i'm looking to get a extended battery that is better that the standard g1 battery but i don't wanna convert my G1 in a gigantic brick...i dont mind a few more milimeters of tickness on the g1 but not too much...for the people that are using extended battery which will you recomend?
It's like saying I need to get a shot, but not with a needle. It will add thickness, if you don't like it get one of the 1700 batteries from the thread below.
I didn't mind the extra girth for a two day battery life. But right now I'm back to stock because it fell off my bed and the cover broke on the bottom.

i concur. i just got my new battery a couple days ago. a 2200 mAh. yes, it did make my g1 into a brick (in size, not functionality), but i would choose actually being able to use my phone over size anyday.
I got a Seidio 1400mAh battery. The brand is reputable, the use I get from it is noticeably more, and the size is the same as the stock battery.
My stock battery started to bulge out last month and wouldn't last even two hours on a charge. I'm not able to use my phone as much as I'd like during the day, but I can take it off the charger at 6am and still have over 30% charge at 9pm. I don't call, but I use lunch and break time to check up on facebook and newsfeeds.
I use Andida 1600mAh Battery. It works much longer than the default one while not making your phone bloated (it's the same size as original). And best of all it's pretty darn cheap! I was quite skeptical about it at first, but I got it just because how cheap it was. And it works like a charm!
oh well so i ordered this morning a 2200 mAh battery for $24...i'll be here anytime in the next two days...so should i do first charge the battery or use the battery till it die and then do the calibration?
Same with all Li batteries, drain, then charge fully.
I am using an Andida 1600mah battery as well. But I would like to ask whether there is any other battery that does not require a case covering? I just dont like to turn my phone into a brick. What is the max without requiring a bigger case? 1700mah? or 1800mah? Thanks.
ok so i just got my new extended battery to be honest is not that thick (still pits on the original pouch)and i like the new backcover...actually is a diferent one that the ones i saw on the pictures...i put it on my G1 and it has %53 left so i'm gonna kill it and recharge...awesome...

Please be aware that the recent batch of Andida 1600mah batteries are NO good. Before you go on ebay and get one, take a read on this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5378371#post5378371
I got 2 batteries, both do not charge. I just got a replacement from the seller, the replacement does not charge and a lot of people are experiencing the same thing.
.
I too brought the 2600mAh battery off of eBay. Cost me £12.00 which is around $20 I believe. Funny thing is, when I recieved it, it said 2850mAh on the battery. Now I don't know if it's a genuine HTC battery or not (sure as hell looks close enough) but it definately does the job. And as far as the size goes, as the previous poster said, you get used to it. Plus I find it a bit easier with the extra size when typing on the device. I would advise it to anyone. Makes your phone last a hell of a lot longer. Small, but very worthy investment.
Small question though: I don't know if I had a dodgy battery before, but this new one seems to charge in around half the time of the stock battery. Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me? I just thought I'd ask
Wow this batttery is a beast...my settings using the original battery was alway on edge, the lowest brightness setting, maybe a few text a few minutes talking listening music for like 2 hours and by the time I got home it will be under %10 this is barely using my phone now I have it on 3g using wifi whenever is possible texting browsing playing videos from youtube medium settings on brightness playing games listening to music for 2 hours and by the time I got home is at %55 and when I tried to kill the battery for a new recharge it just don't wanna die my last charge last over 24 hours...I'm so glad that I get this new battery finally I can use my phone without being attached to the charger....I'm planing to get me a bluetooth headphones...
I got a White G1, I bought a 2300 mAh Extended battery from ebay for about 23 USD, with the black battery door, but after months of abuse, the door cracked on me till a point where it just wouldnt stay on my g1 with my hand behind it ... So I ordered another one this time for only 12-13 (w/ shipping) bucks .. and it's white... Just got it today, Pictures below

What is the name of the battery?
And for the rest who bought the batteries, can you please state what it the seller's name or the battery brand? I'm thinking of trying one of those large ones Thanks!
I have the Seidio Innocell 2600 mAh battery. I like it now, but the bulge took about a week to get used to. It's great not having to worry about charging the phone halfway through the day (my stock lasted 6-8 hours tops).
The only complaint I have about the bigger battery cover is that it is easier to crack and break. I have a crack in the lower left corner of my cover, and I'm worried it will continue to grow. I've looked on eBay and Google for replacement battery covers, but I can't find any for sale without a battery.

I too can vouch for this. I have a crack in the exact same place. I also have lost the small lip like thing at the top where the back cover becomes in line with the keyboard. Only the lip part is gone though. If I find a cover available without the battery I'll be sure to post it.
I picked mine up from Gadget Garage off of ebay for around $20. I'll also vouch for the batteries themselves. It adds thickness but the change in battery life makes it worth it imho. Mine has been up 17 hours and I'm still at 50% without charging at all.

Is anyone using a case with a big battery? My current case (Body Glove) has protected my phone from everything for over a year. Don't want to lose the case for a bigger battery.

Ok. I took the phone off the charger at 7:10am and it started with a 96% and 70% 12:37 pm , now its 9:52 and i still have 51% left of battery time... Im guessing this was a great investment. Mine u. I had wifi and Bluetooth running from 7:45 am until 5:30 pm ,those are my working hours.. The only thing i change is my phone brightness, because i know that runs down a battery for sure. Im freaking amazed..

Extended battery's are awesome...sure you have to sacrifice size, but not that much....but its well worth it.
Looking at your battery stats will be a thing of the past.
And the car charger, I don't even know where I left it at
E3D comes off the charger at 830am
I have everything on, all full time..Gps get used about 1 to 2 hours worth every day ,wifi,4g,bluetooth,auto bright is off and brightness is on max,3 apps updating every hour,150 text,3 hours more or less talk time, moderate to heavy internet use with 4g..
When I get home at night about 9pm I have About 20 to 30% left
On the weekends I don't use the phone as much only on talk time.
I unplug from charger on saturday 7am and by sunday night i have 80% left
4000 mah seido
I just received my extended battery any tips for first use of it. Do I need to wipe battery stats? As I understand all you do is put it in the phone as soon as you get it and then drain it completely then charge it to 100% unplug take battery out then repeat until you take it out put it back in and it reads 100% immediately, is that correct?

I think you have to wipe your battery stats, but first let it drain it completely. If you are rooted use the current widget while it is in charge, and when ONLY this widget shows to you 100%, then from Rom Manager boot to recovery (do not unplug the phone), then wipe the battery stats from there, reboot the phone, and when it goes to 100% again, then unplug the phone. I use the stock battery and the battery lasts for 30 hours, having the data always on, calls around 1 hour, screen time around 3.5 hours. Its not bad at all i think.

you must be in an area with kick-ass signal strength. I am always barely hovering above 0 bars and get like 16 hours of normal (heavy) use and can get 24 hours out of it if I mellow out data use, screen on auto brightness, wifi off, bluetooth off, 4g off, toggle mobile data off when I know I won't use it for a while, disable background data and syncing.
Shoot I was lucky if I got 8 hrs of light use on my stock battery.

Maybe I've done something wrong but last night this new battery drained completely. I followed my instructions in the last post. Wiped battery stats when the app said 100% and not before. My phone has now been off the charger for 30 mins and I've already lost 12% I wasn't using my phone I was outside mowing my lawn. This is the 3500mah battery from handheld

Very Useful post good job guys! I have the Otterbox defender so im stuck with a standard size battery. I will get a 2000MAH today. However I use Virus Rom and there is the battery saving mode built in and man it rocks! I get up at 8 am and by time I am home around 9 ish 10 ish I am still with about 30-40% and I am a pretty heavy user. I recommend virus rom for battery saving.

7 hours and still at 92%, nice!! As DarkMan asked, how big is it now?
If only the Defender case would fit around an extended battery. My phone dies too fast with Bluetooth on all day and making calls all day for work. Plus the loads of texts and surfing, lol.

Sure that would show some nice info, but with the 3D there's no way the stock battery would only use 8% in 7 hours even with the screen off (unless mobile data was shut off.)

To be honest I think that WiFi uses less battery than mobile data, so even with the push email it'll use less than just the mobile data without push. Let me rephrase what I said then. There's no way I'll ever see that little loss over that length of time, even without using the phone just in my pocket I lose 10% in less than 2 hours.

Wow, again, no way I'd ever see that battery life. I'm running Steel's ROM with one of the dual core kernels, nothing that should be draining it, just crappy data here so I guess it struggles to work draining the battery.

A weak cell signal is really rough on the battery. I use wifi at work and home, both have full signal 90% of the time. If my phone is just sitting there at idle it barely uses any battery. Showing battery life since unplugged really isn't giving any info. Up Time and Awake Time since unplugged, with either Data or Wifi on, is what everyone should be showing. That actually gives everyone a general idea of battery life...
With my Anker 1900mah batteries, I get from 20-34 Up with 5-6 Awake, depending on my usage.

I must have a bad battery , I have that same amount of screen time and Im lucky if I get 6 hours tops .
how does the ebay extended battery compare to this?

A weak cell signal is really rough on the battery. I use wifi at work and home, both have full signal 90% of the time. If my phone is just sitting there at idle it barely uses any battery. Showing battery life since unplugged really isn't giving any info. Up Time and Awake Time since unplugged, with either Data or Wifi on, is what everyone should be showing. That actually gives everyone a general idea of battery life...
With my Anker 1900mah batteries, I get from 20-34 Up with 5-6 Awake, depending on my usage.

How do you get that much off it? I have the anker battery too and I get around nine-ten where my OEM gets seven to eight. All I do is play words with friends. Most of the day my screen is off with only mobile data on. No way can I get 20 hours.

you have some serious wakelock issues.. thats probably why you get ****ty battery life
I, on the other hand get ****ty battery life because of the ****ty signal and ****ty coverage sprint has in my area... dropped more than 40% in 7hours with the phone just sitting there

If you look at the time where the battery dropped the most, your phone was awake but the screen was off that whole time. There is an app that is keeping your phone awake. I have never had that problem before but I am sure that there is a program on the market that would help find the culprit.

That's not a real Amaze Battery... look at the posting info, it's only 3.7V. the Amaze comes with a 3.8V battery. Just use your old Anker sensation battery. it's the same thing.
I would really like to know if its worth getting since the stock battery is anorexic... and how would 3.7 volts affect the phone. Can it break it?
The phone will be undervolted which isn't bad seeing as how many kernels offer undervoltage

I email Anker and asked them about the voltage difference...
Hello, I have a quick question about the battery for the HTC Amaze 4G.
The OEM battery from HTC is listed as 3.8 volts, but your battery is listed as 3.7. Is there a reason why your battery has a lower voltage?
Could this affect the operation of my phone?

Their response was...
Thank you for contacting us.
I just heard back from our tech team that there is no actual performance difference between 3.7v and 3.8 v and it will not affect the performance of the battery.
Please do not worry about it.
Please let us know if there is anything else we may help. Any time you need us, we are always here.

I don't have a problem with that response. Since all of the components in the phone run at either 3.3v or 1.7v, that .1 of volt should have no affect on the operation of the phone.
If for some reason it does, just return it. They are reputable and have been selling for awhile.
It's not like they are selling these out of the back of a van.
Off Anker topic... But if it's a 3.8v 1730mAH battery, then it's the exact same as the Evo 3D isn't it?
Anker battery
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005M19IZU
I bought the anker battery and charger from Amazon and in all honesty the battery seems to work much better than the OEM one provided by HTC. 1800mAh and seems to provide a good backup battery. The external charger is a neat touch since one does not have to charge the batteries through the one all the time.
I just purchased two Anker batteries with a charger combo for $12.
Here's the link:
http://amzn.com/B005M19IZU
At first I thought that it sounded too good to be true but for $12 it's worth the risk.
It arrived today and at first glance I had a bit of buyers remorse because the charger didn't have any instructions and the charging pins seemed to move around too freely. It just felt cheap overall. The two batteries that it came with say that they are for the EVO 3D 4G as 3.7v and 1800mAh. Yet I let the batteries charge and I daringly put it in my phone. Voila! Powered right up and works just as well as the OEM battery. I haven't drained it yet so I have no idea on how long the battery will last. My expectations? 180 mAh 3.7v battery vs the 1730mAh 3.8v OEM battery... I'm not expecting too much difference to be honest. I'll keep you all posted with an edit in say about 48 hours.
A premature opinion if you ask for it... is it a viable solution for a primary battery? I wouldn't think so.
Is it a viable solution as a backup since we can't charge via 5.0.2.6 recovery? You're damn right!
Another note:
Not sure if it's related to the battery or not but I've had two random reboots with this battery installed. So... perhaps if someone else has experienced something similiar there just might be an issue there. Time will tell.
I bought from mugen the evo3D 1950mah I'm on my second cycle so far not impressed so far at all. The difference between the stock battery and this one is only 200 mah but it almost seems like the 3D battery drains faster

Damn!!!! I bought for 17 two weeks ago!!!!
Just got my Amaze last night. I put my Anker battery that I bought 2 weeks ago for my sensation in it. Unplugged the phone at 9:45 AM, and when I got home at around 8:00 i had something like 15-20% charge remaining. That was after using my phone through out the day to place a few phone calls, constantly checking texts and facebook, and also doing some ebay browsing looking for accessories for it. Must say, I LOVE my Anker battery.
Solid opinions?
I'm planning on buying one (1900mAh). I heard that initial it appears to lose it charge then slows down but still offering good battery life. However I'm a bit unsure.
By how much more hours will this thing pack compare to stock?
Also I hope (and it probably will) increase battery life once we see Cyanogenmod and better kernels. First we have to get through S-Off.
I got the 1950 today is my third cycle, in my previous post it was my second and I said it was terrible, after the 3rd cycle I've seen a big improvement. 12 hours and 12 mins off charger. I started at 100 percent. Right as I went into work. For 8 and 1/2 hours I had airplane mode on, being that WiFi calling doesn't work, had WiFi turned on, and listened to Pandora the whole time.

Just bought this battery for mine. It does not seem to get a full charge. Charging on device only get up to 94 % or so. Any one else have that problem?
edit: meant to reply to Binary. I've got this same battery kit: http://amzn.com/B005M19IZU
I've had this same kit for a few weeks. I have the same complaints about the charger pins but whatever, your hands will learn how to do it quickly after a couple times. Now I just rotate the batteries about every day and a half. On the first few charges I was barely getting more than the stock battery. After a few times of fully charging and fully draining I get about 25hrs of normal use. Last weekend I got 36 hours before the battery finally died.
My usage patterns:
1+ hr internet radio morning commute.
Mail, Facebook, weather, syncing all day.
Random web
random games
1+ hr internet radio evening commute.
not plugged in all night, sometimes I leave sync on, sometimes I turn it off.
1+ hr internet radio for morning commute
change battery some time between getting to work and lunch.
Worth it IMO.
So you are not charging in device though at all. Just their charger?

I bought the single 1900mAh and I can charge to 100% through the phone, it does however discharge down quickly initially. Its slows down after 80 - 90% so the overall life is still good. This is its second charge so I'm still waiting to see if I get a boost.
are you charging yours in the phone or the anker charger? Seems with indicator being off been tryib to charge in the phone myself.
What is thr best most accurate way of charging for life and indicator to be right?

In my usage I get 7 hours out of the stock battery and 5 hours from the Anker. That puts the stock at about 1259 mA.

Charged to 100%, calibrated battery and got 8 hours before battery was completely spent and phone turned off.
Use was moderate with Web surfing, email and a single 10 minute call. Both wifi and LTE use.
This is almost about 100% increase from what I had been getting before calibrating battery.

Not impressed with my battery at all.
Good standby time but that's about it. I'm in an HSPA area and it's still bad.
Another thing that bothers me is the time it takes to charge. My battery will occasionally DROP even if it's plugged into a wall just because I'm using it. It's depressing

Just over 22h unplugged- about 20 minutes wifi use and the rest was going in and out of LTE (Atlanta) and H+ zones. 25mins of voice calls too. I'm in love with my battery life.

Screen on 2.5 hrs, not sure that's accurate spent alot of time playing games and surfing internet. If you guys have bad battery life turn your display all the way down. The display on the lowest setting is brighter than some phones on the medium to high setting. I typically get thru my work day with 70% left. Then by the time i hit the hay its around 20-30%.

I had that happen to me at first. I tried using a different usb cable that I had along with the stock charger and haven't had that happen since.
im averaging about 18 to 20 hrs of use with about 3 hours or maybe a little more of on screen time. I can easily make it through the day so I am good. Now I will say that I am using JD to help me get there.
I spend alot of time reading forums and some technical websites, lots of work emails (corporate admin here so I get a ton) my calls arent usually long ones unless they are support related so I average about 30 min total time of calls for a day and average about 30 texts. I put this as moderate usage. I dont know how some people get 5+ hours of on screen and still make it 24hrs tho...
There are noway you guys can get it 5 hours screen on unless you charge it a bit more at the middle. Mine is 3:15 mins and 3:30min with Juice Defenders

Here ya go naysayer.
First pic is screen on time, second is right before I put the phone on charge before bed. Made it to 21h officially that day. After screenshot of screen-on time, there was no more screen usage for the next hour when I plugged it in... might have lasted longer but Gmail caused a wakelock the last hour and ate some battery. (Sending a big photo and it stuck)
No charge, no juice defender, nothing but usage.
Check my usage graph rrreeeaaalll closely. No charging.
Now, stop incinuating that we are liars when we get stellar battery life. Something is up with your device.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
By the way, juice defender mostly increases standby time. Not much else. We can't do anything for things like the battery being used by the screen.
Which is why this battery sucks. I get more frustrated with it each day....
But I'm very happy with the GPS performance and screen quality

On one of the other battery threads, a poster gave a few commands to be used in a terminal window to see at what amperage the charger was running. The factory supplied AC charger was around 700 millamps (IIRC). I tested the cylinder style charger that came with MY HP Touchpad and it puts out 1000 milliamps.
This seems to be a handy way to ensure your charger of choice is putting out enough juice to charge your phone.
Here are the commands that pj_rage posted (phone needs to be rooted to run these):
cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_current_adc
cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/charging_source
The reported number should be a 0, 1, or 2. 0 = no charger connected, 1 = data lines NOT shorted, USB normal charge, and 2 = data lines ARE shorted, AC fast charge.

Only way to get like 5+ hrs is to use you phone really aggressively right when you remove it from the charger. Web browsing is 3 minutes per percent on my end.
3 minutes / percent x 60 minutes = 300 / 60 = 5 hrs screen time.
Btw: this is on STOCK with display on 10.
