Hey guys, sorry if this is a repeat, but i cant find anyone else with this problem.
a while back i tried to root my phone a few different ways. I tried the torpedo, one click and some other way. I think i got a partial root some how cause i have access to all my root files through file manager, but no apps recognize root. There is no su binary, no busy box and no sudo is what my root checker says. Ive tried rsd lite 5.6 but there is a re-enumeration issue. I cant get back to stock. Everything works fine except normal wear and tear things. Ive tried different usb ports, i made sure the file im flashing is in the root of my c drive. Not sure what to do. Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.

What software version are you running? What were you running when you tried to root your phone the first time? If you had 2.3.4, Shabby's AIO should have worked assuming you followed the directions. If you're on 2.3.5 now, you can try Mof's new Photon-Torpedo Direct.
Good luck!

What about installing SuperUser? Did you think of that point?

yeah, I've tried it installed and uninstalled.
To gain root access, you must have this app, and when you try to use an app that requires root access and you see a popup, select "allow".
If you uninstalled it, you can't have root access. You should root your Photon and install Super User.

thats the problem, not sure whether I'm rooted or not, lol. cause I can't root or unroot my phone, I'm trying to get back to stock so I can either send in for warranty or reroot.

The other thing is I did the OTA to 2.3.5. which should've knocked out my root access if I was rooted in the first place, but I run into different errors while trying to root, I don't have su binary, I get errors like permission denied on certain files when trying to the root through command prompt either the photon-torpedo or the one click stuff. Not sure what I'm going to do, need to get a new phone under warranty so I can start over on this whole thing, but just can't get back to stock. Is there a way that I can completely wipe my phone to where I can reload everything so there would be no trace of defective files?
I don't think you should reload everything.. There's no point in doing that unless you're sure you have a big problem.
Now that you have 2.3.5, you can't unlock the bootloader and flash custom ROM, unless you use bootstrap, that gives you the ability to flash a little amount of ROMs.
Just try to root your Photon using the old method. My favorite guide of rooting, (used it after every SBF) is here. It even prevents the permission denied problem!!
Please try this guide, I'm pretty sure that it'll solve the problem.
Does your 4g work?
The above methods won't work. The phone won't take shell commands. There is no /lib directory. I've seen this before actually I'm there myself now I had to use the ota update files to get out of a boot loop while starting a new ROM. Bit even though I have the insurance I'm going to try and figure out what's going on. The phone appears to by symlinked in a bazaar way. Give me a few days.

I'm in CA and I don't get 4g where I'm at, but I was in the Merced area a couple of weeks ago and I got it for a little bit of time, pretty sure it still works. And yes you're right the Torpedo root process doesn't work for me either, althought I haven't tried it the the dock.
Anyone still having issues rooting PM me I may have found a work around.
Ok, figured out that I only had to change libphoton-torpedo.sh to libphoton-torpedo2.sh and also in the script everything worked flawlessly.
Thanks

This walks through the process of rooting a Motorola Milestone X2 running 2.3.6. First off I DID NOT come up with this solution nor did I initially post this in this thread. Many many MANY thanks to all those helped make this a reality (which seem to be Brandon15811, the2dcour, and eval-!) and to Sippi4x4man who posted this information here along with DarkFalconX who posted an addendum to help get it working, and to Tiso who made me aware someone had posted this in the thread. See the bottom for the original links that were posted.
This is the process I used it is slightly different than Dark's and the original link. The standard warning applies here, NEITHER MYSELF NOR ANYONE ELSE IS RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE DOING THIS!
PREREQUISITES
You MUST have the ADB drivers for your phone installed which are obtained as part of the Android SDK.
You MUST have USB Debugging enabled on your phone.
You MUST have Superuser installed, which can be found on the Market.
PROCESS
Download the following file (atrix-4g-moto-fastboot-win32.zip): LINK
Extract the zip file to a location that is easy to get to, the original instructions suggested making a Root folder in C:\, however it is really up to you. Just make sure all the files are extracted to the same folder.
Get your phone into Fastboot mode, to do this:
Shut the phone off.
Hold down the Volume Down Button while pressing the Power Button.
After the phone turns on you should see Fastboot at the top of the screen.
Press the Volume Up Button to enter Fastboot mode. Your computer may need to install drivers if this is the first time you entered Fastboot mode, so let this happen BEFORE proceeding.
Start a command prompt on your computer.
Type the following commands:
cd \<DIRECTORY> where <DIRECTORY> is the folder you created. If you created the Root folder in C:\ it would be cd \root.
moto-fastboot flash preinstall preinstall.img
moto-fastboot reboot
Wait for the phone to reboot, once it does so execute the following commands (in the command prompt you should still have open):
adb shell
/preinstall/su
On your phone you should see a prompt to Allow or Deny Superuser access, allow this. Then execute the following commands (in the command prompt you should still have open)
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /system
cp /preinstall/su /system/bin/su
chmod 6755 /system/bin/su

UPDATES
09/04/2012 - The links for the files were broken, the files needed to root the Atrix 4G are the same as we need so I have updated the link to those used for that, along with tweaking the instructions a bit to match. Thanks to Carl Parker and this post here for the working link. Do not worry that the files are labeled "for" the Atrix 4G, the files do in fact work for rooting the Milestone X2 I just used them successfully.
09/05/2012 - I modified the instructions to flash preinstall.img versus root.img, thanks to aldude999 and sd_shadow for pointing out the error as well as sd_shadow for the new link.
I also need to make sure I give credit where credit is due, skwoodwiva and mastafunk have been extremely helpful in trying to figure out a solution for my phone. I can't thank you guys enough, I apologize in the fact that I didn't see the personal messages before I let my phone update OTA to 2.3.6. If anything I hope if I can provide the OTA update I can help the community figure some stuff out as frankly I don't have the knowledge. Thanks again guys.
HELP!!!
The same thing happened to my provider. I got a 2.3.6 up date and I was thinking as it was downloading.... crap I am not going to have root access. I have tried several ways. I have tried Superoneclick, the zerg method and I have also tried some other odd ways. PLEASE HELP US FIGURE THIS OUT!!!!! Maybe this will help with other problems with some of the roms I also wanted to add that I have the SBF and I tried to go back to 2.3.5 and it fails. Which means I am stuck with 2.3.6 >.< ANGRY MOOGLE.... ANGGGEERRRR Motorola unlock your bootloader!!!
Sorry for the bad news. I do wish voodoo rootkeeper was was given more credit in this forum as it may have saved you in spite of it's (TO BE NOTED) problems with one custom rom, eclipse. Thanks for the recognition

Did the ud negotiation give an option to dl only? tw... where did you get the sbf? Care to post it? Also give details about the rsd failure I assume you used rsd mode down rocker up rocker...

Clcrawl so you saved the ota while still on 235. Drama! Man. Post it or send it to me. Change the .zip to mp3 if you have trouble on phone, boat and es file expl used to work w/ multiupload. My last ota ul would not w/ those so I opera'ed a mp3.
i can not post the sbg . It is from ntelos. It has the 2.3.5 build from Daytona. Bassically what happens the phone I phone freezes when I try to reload the sbf. Then rsd fails. I do put the phone in RSd mode and then connect it. Is there something I am missing?
Development forum top sticky sbf tutorial
The problem with OTA root keeper it's that apparently it doesn't place superuser apk back into system properly. So when we all tried to flash eclipse it couldn't set permission correctly inn superuser apk.
it wasn't allowing the system to write to the root files of the ROM.
so basically it blocked itself.
((ooh....and I didn't figure this out lol....me an nitro had a conversation bout it....he figured out I believe while trying to mess with three razr and it's OTA update)

Pretty sure all of them.
Since don't they all include superuser apk and binaries in the updater scripts?
A work around would be to remove superuser things from the script and then after ROM install use root keeper again to restore superuser.
Easier to just use zergrush IMO
That is at least until we run of ways to obtain root on OTA lol

Many thanks if anyone can help me get root back, at the very least I was able to Freeze Apps to make the phone far more responsive. This is what happens when you get drunk and are playing with your phone, you let an OTA update get applied ;-).
I am in the same boat with my Milestone X2 (Bluegrass Cellular). Had root at 2.3.5 with a variant of zergrush. Lost it with an OTA I let slip through (2.3.6). No method has had any luck fixing it (Hellion blue flames message on zergrush). If anyone comes up with a fix, please post it. Thanks.
I have a Milestone X2 on Ntelos. Seen some people rooting with 2.3.5, any ideas on how? Read posts on one way that had worked with others but could never get it to work with mine.
Manula Root Method
Scroll to the bottom of the OP and look for the Manual Root Method stated there. Have you guys tried this?
Has anyone tried the D3 1 click rather than zerg rush. It's older but I havent heard of it breaking yet.
This did not work. I tried the commands by hand the point where you do the following you are getting permission denied so I presume the exploit is supposed to happen before it when you are creating a symlink (ln -s):
$ mv /data/local.prop /data/local.prop.bak
mv /data/local.prop /data/local.prop.bak
failed on '/data/local.prop' - Permission denied
$
After that is is all fail. So I guess previously moving the 12m file or whatever it is, removing it and then moving it back created the exploit?

Pete's fails to give you temp root unfortunately so it fails. Which is effectively what the manual instructions are from what I can tell. We just need some exploit to offer temp root via ADB and then you can get su in place and it is over. It appears the only thing that worked in 2.3.5 was Zerg and the "fixed" that. If anyone knows how the developer of Zerg is I would love to talk to them to see what exactly was being exploited.

I'd like to sign this petition too...
I'm glad to see some people talking about this! Just moved to this phone from an HTC desire and while I love the screen size & internal memory it has been quite a blow to move from cyanogenmod 7 to the slow jerky OS that this appears to have - after all it was touted as being faster! And there is no way for me to get root because right from the store I got 2.3.6. I've tried a couple of exploits including the zergrush one, and doing it manually via adb as mentioned already in this thread. I'd lover to get some help with this!
Also, what is the difference between the Droid x2 and the milestone x2? I have searched but have not found... Other than that updates get rolled out at different times perhaps.
- Jon
1 - follow unlimited.io instructions - http://unlimited.io/fireball.htm which will include basic android sdk (minimum of adb and fastboot) on a pc that meets dirty racun specs.
2 - step 12 calls for temproot, best way is use excerpts from team fireballas fakecid directions. all that is needed is "Quick how-to temproot (written by captainrewind):" part 1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986346
3 - complete dirty racun instructions, s-off will then be achieved.
4 - now root needs done, return to team fireballas thread, post 2, and install recovery (twrp).
5 - install superuser or supersu again using team fireballas thread post 2 or the play store.
this will give me a rooted phone with s-off and stock software. i can now install apps that require root (wifi tether, adblock, root explorer, etc.), use recovery to do nandroids and install custom roms if i want.
what did i miss?

This guarantees you are locked. It doesn't do anything bad if you already are locked.
You don't have to install the android sdk. The dirtyracun folder has a simple short version, just cd to that folder, or open cmd from the shortcut included in it and you'll have adb needed to get s-off.
thanks guys - i updated the op...
I'm going to do this one of these days. Thanks for the checklist.
trouble with 11-Jan-14 update
Hello,
I applied this procedure on 30-Sep-13 and it worked beautifully. I've enjoyed root access until this morning when I clicked ok for a software upgrade. Now my phone seems to be in an endless loop showing some console content and then showing a graphic that says teamwin. Some of the console output references preparing and running skin_fota tool.
Does anyone have advice to how I might get back to a stable phone?
Thanks.
Ed
Update:
I pulled and restored the battery and the phone seems to have come back but I lost root access..

Yes I tried the install and I let it cycle as described above for about four hours. Then I made the post and finally pulled the battery to see if the phone would come back on its own, which it did. I can't say for sure if the update was success because I finally slammed it down by removing the battery but after four days, the phone has been perfectly stable and does indicate 2.19.605.2 710RD.
I've tested that I no longer have root but I haven't yet checked if I still have S-OFF. Is it expected that I should still have S-OFF?
Thanks.

I had trouble running DirtyRacun's update, (March 30th, 2014), and it would appear that it is because I took an OTA update at some point in February. If this is the case, I can tell you I had success with following this post:

Searched google with lots of different keywords and can't find anything that will successfully root this phone. It's running 4.0.4 IMM76I ics with software version 1.006SP, hardware 010B. The kernel version, if it helps, is:

I've tried superoneclick, multiroot (title is root many.... on xda mainly for sony but some kyocera), and xfactor exploit. I know most of them aren't for this specific phone. In the root many and xfactor, it does manage to call up the restore screen but the phone closes the restore a few seconds after opening it and the exploit fails every time. I've been checking every day for new news for this phone but haven't found anything yet. I assume it is because it isn't a popular phone as to why there is not a guide. I assume that kyocera/sprint buttoned up the back doors for the other kyocera phones on this model. Any suggestions or clarifications are welcome.

I to have tried other rooting methods (poot, z4root) because they work on other kyocera phones with no luck. But I don't believe that kyocera/sprint buttoned up the back door. Where there is a will there is a way. I'm w willing to try any other methods that anyone would be willing to share . The other commits say this is not a popular device I disagree with that it will sell in good numbers. We just need to find someone willing to root it and build us some roms. Thats why my hat is off to all the people who put forth an effort on the HTC EVO, HTC Hero, Samsung Epic, S2 and S3. If you or anyone have any ideas who we need to talk to, a root method, or anything let me know I will try anything to get rid of bloat and root this device. If I knew how to write a script to do it myself it would be done but I'm no where near the talent level of the ones who do. I'm just a flasher

I tried to reach out to others who have helped me in rooting and in roms with no luck whatsoever because of devices like the HTC ONE and the new S4 around the corner they must have their hands full. I've also tried the two methods that you did as well as SRS One Click. I just wish I know how to do this and I would do it myself. Please someone out there HELP US!!!!!!:cyclops: Teach me!!
My buddy had gotten this phone and I wanted to help him get rid of the bloat ware. I have tried everything but the one click root program. I wanted to try like I first did on the original evo 4g. Someone, I'm assuming a dev had put in how to basically on adb put the phone into a suspend type mode and were able to root the phone then. I looked all over for the code, but couldn't find it. I'll willing to try anything too. I'm not a dev, but I'm not a noob. I do know a little with the android coding, so anything I can do to help...
A lot of rambling too

I actually just saw this phone in the store the other day and am considering purchasing it.
Don't actually need Direct Connect, tho.... so I'm wondering how easy it would be to use or even make a custom rom with 4.2, and perhaps the EcoBoost and Maximizer (sp?) battery saving apps that come stock with the Sprint firmware.
I'm guessing that if the phone has been rooted, the Roms will come??
i tried the motochop on the torque, and it said successful and everything, changed the acces to auto allow, and it still isnt working. Superuser is there, but wont work. did you do anything special or anything else?

Ok! try motochop it works the only problem is I can't get superuser to work right. You have to go into the settings and set default access as grant. From what I know the 1st rooted torque ever.
Thank the dev djrblizz (I hope I got that right)

The next question is which release version are you guys using when attempting root with motochopper? It is now at 1.007SP. I attempted a few different methods while on 1.006SP without success. Personally, I only would like root for general reasons (Titanium Backup to efficiently backup/restore/transfer apps between wipes and possibly tethering) along with reprogramming/disabling the DC button (though 1.007SP has alleviated this a bit by cancelling its ability to wake the device while disabled in the system settings; 1.006SP still allowed DC button device wake even while disabled). If this were my primary phone, I would probably commit more time to it, but maybe I will after a little more feedback from yall currently working on it.

I would hold up on purchasing if you think what has been posted thus far is automatically going to lead to custom ROMs to the extent of what you are saying...at all. First off, this phone is currently running 4.0.4 ICS and not even 4.1 JB (so jumping to 4.2 on a phone without wide usership and development would require you to step in, crack your knuckles and figure some stuff out). And, second, there would, likely, have to be some serious porting & dev efforts to fathom anything you just said after seeing a single report of unstable root access. To put things in perspective, this 2-page thread is just about the only public forum activity pertaining the the Torque's root...pretty dismal.
So root for this phone actually is working on the stock rom, and allows bloatware removal & root roms?
I could care less about custom roms, kernels, whatnot. I'm still running an Evo 4G, and would love to be able to pick up this phone for the DC, so that I don't have to carry two cell phones everywhere (My Evo, and the work-issued Direct Connect phone).
I don't care about the latest & greatest (as evidenced by my "ancient" Evo), so this phone would be an upgrade over what I have... assuming that root is available so that I can remove bloatware, add Titanium Backup, Quick Boot, SetCPU, Wireless Tether, and Roam Control.
On my Evo, I run the stock rooted ROM, with the bloatware stripped out & the above Root apps... that's the only reason I need root.

Hi guys it was 1.0006. SP that I rooted at first I had the same problems with superuser at first. So I wiped my phone and used motochop again. Still I had no su ability. So I tried super one click to see if I could get it to fix the root and it said I had root access. Then I went back into superuser and granted permission to then updated the permission and busybox. It worked for me until I had 1.007 SP pushed to my phone and superuser stopped working I'm trying to find a fix and I will. My phone still shows root access I just think we need a superuser that work right.

I have one on each, but I will try on my 1.006SP one first and see what I get. I have to hold off on my updated 1.007SP one because I have to take it in for some hardware issues (no camera focus and one of the faux screws fell out on the front). About to check it out with motochopper on 1.006 (but I think I have already). I will report back.
Update:
So, on 1.006SP, after motochopper, I have shell root using ADB on my PC but no apps recognize root access on the device itself. I am tempted to just allow 1.007SP to install and try from there. It is going to get to a point where everyone has the OTA installed anyway...if that becomes the case, it will be pointless to have root attained on an older version (unless a downgrade option becomes available).
Update 2:
Same deal with 1.007SP.
Kingo root app does not work to root the new update for the att locked bootloader Mega. Has anyone come across a root method that works on the i527 4.4.2?? Kitkat is great, but it's sad that rooted apps are dead at this point.:crying: I really miss my titanium backup!

Wonder if this will work. The update has a release date of 11 June. Not sure what the date on the kernel is but seems TR should work.

Wow! Thanks for finding this. I have been looking into it. The dev is GeoHot- same guy who did a lot of jailbreaking on the iphones.
I'll start listing links for info. Here is the 1st one. I will add as I go. I have downloaded the towelroot apk. Will do more reading before I give it a try. Maybe....

Nope! No root obtained according to root checker and supersu.
This is from GeoHot's site: "if this doesn't work on your phone
e-mail my gmail geohot+towelroot

and we'll see what can be done."
I don't know how to do an adb logcat! Anybody else know how ? and can send it to his gmail???? It's his [email protected]

It should look like a lot of lines of code, some in different colors. Open Logcat, let it run in the background. Open the TR.APK and it will show up in logcat. Hit the menu button to copy the contents. Should be able to paste into an email. Been a while since I logcatted anything.

I think I did it right. I ran the catlog, ran the towelroot app, it rebooted, I opened the catlog, had all that text- I saved it, sent it to my dropbox, and then sent it along to geohot in an email with all the particulars of our phone.

Patience.....

Sorta like cyanogenmod, don't asks for ETAs, just be patient it will come.
Do we have this on our Mega's:
Like the HTC and the newest Moto --- " /system is write protected. (system partition is locked)
Detected as Andr.Exploit.Ratc by some virus scanners. It is an Android exploit. Will not fix."
If we do then it is not good news. Since I'm not sure what the above means, I will be an optimist!:fingers-crossed:

In case we get somewhere with this towelroot app, The other thing you have to do before or after running a successful root is go to chainfire's site and download the update supersu zip file. I did it on my laptop.
http://download.chainfire.eu/448/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r5.zip supersu has been updated in the playstore as of 6/18/14. This step is no longer necessary.
Since we can't flash zip files yet (no custom recovery due to locked bootloader), you need to unzip the file, go into the common folder and copy the superuser apk file. I know the date says 2008, but that is the latest apk.- v.1.99. The one in the play store is too old. ( It won't update the binary.) I removed my old supersu, and downloaded the apk thru my dropbox, installed it. (Just read we need to uninstall supersu Pro too) Update binary and then reinstall pro.
Once we have root with towelroot (I'm thinking positive here) you will need to open the supersu- v. 1.99 and update the binary. Then you should be good to go.
*********************************************************
I borrowed the following from Franzie3- thank you. Taken from the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784860
once you have completed the instructions and used Towelroot. Let's get us some SuperSu on it!!
6/16/14 For now please download the following zip located from chainfires site listed above- v.1.99 and extract the SuperSU.apk from the "Common" Folder in the ZIP and sideload the app. Credit to @Chainfire for SuperSU
- Once SuperSU is installed Open it.
- It will state that Samsung KNOX is detected and ask to disable it. The choice is yours, but I let it disable.
- Next you will need to update your binary. The choice are "Normal" or "TWRP/CWM". You MUST choose normal as TWRP and CWM require unlocked bootloaders which we do not have as of now.( this applies to us att mega owners too)
- Download Root Checker form the Play Store HERE
- Once you have verified you have root CONGRATS!!
According to Grarak- who works with kernels and understands all this stuff- He says our kernel, even though it is before June 2014, does not have the exploit that Towelroot uses to obtain root on our phone. So it will not work at all. We will have a long wait I think.
The playstore's supersu has now been updated, and now will update binaries just fine- for those lucky enough to have a phone that TR does work on. Which is a whole truckload of them....well maybe I exaggerate a little, but it does work on a lot of androids on 4.4.2. and some 4.4.3.
Just not ours I will still keep looking for any posts of info on our phone.
im keeping my fingers crossed that somebody obtains root for our i527 with kit kat
I have my fingers, toes, arms, and eyes crossed. Hopefully we'll get root soon.

There is always hope!!! A chinese group just released a jailbreak for iOS 7.1 which was stalled after apple patched the exploit for 7.0.6 that updated to 7.1 JB. Iphone users weren't expecting a JB until the new iOS8 was released with the new iphone in Sept. And that would have been 4-6 months wait.
So with geohot releasing TR for android, maybe he can cover all the bases for those phones that it doesn't work for. Patience grasshoppers.
Too bad we can't flash from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 then root.... Hoping for root soon as well. I picked up 200 mega to sell and all of them were manufactured on June 22nd 2014 all of them have KitKat 4.4.2.

I finally gave up on the Mega. Pulled my sim and sdram and threw them in my S3 running rooted 4.3. Not willing to upgrade that one to 4.4.2 and get locked out of it too. Maybe in a few months if someone figures out how to unlock the bootloader and root kitkat on the mega I will use it again.

My Mega is DOA. I was able to FULLY FLASH MY MEGA BACK to 4.2, only problem is, now my phone is a shiny paperweight that yells at me when I turn it on. It says, and I quote, (ahem) "SECURE FAIL: KERNEL
System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help.".
Thing is, I flashed it using only genuine Samsung firmware (and did it right by the way) and the kicker is I BOUGHT THIS FOR FULL PRICE OFF CONTRACT!

I concur, I can not afford to brick this beautiful phone. I saw a twitter post claiming that some guys root app can do it for our phones if they're 5.0.2 Android like oohokay they come with 5.1 mister click bait scammer... Tho getting into recovery and activating developers settings is easy enough on the warp elite.

Run kingoroot, then uninstall the kingoroot superuser apk then you will have temp root until you reboot. I have made a little progress over at the Android forums. I have got boot and recovery images using Flashify.apk and got the /system though I think it is not a flashable image. I can't get nandroid online backups to work though. I'm still a boob at this.
I would be willing to put $10 towards paying the developer who can come up with a root for the warp elite 9518.
I know its pocket change but I'm hoping I can start a list of people who are willing to pledge some money, 5$-10$, I would keep a forum post with the user names of the people willing to donate, and the total amount available for payment upon a successful root. Offline I will keep that same list but include their first name and amount they would be able to pitch in. All money will stay in the donators possesion, until an agreement is made regarding dev payment
Hopefully a capable dev sees this as something they could do if they were compensated for their time. I just need to run this by the admin here to see if this is something I can do that wouldn't violate any rules.

I have successfully rooted the N9518. i used the kingo root for windows. I did a hard reset of the phone and after the reset went into settings where it said pc connections i the enabled the debugging and had the connection setting on the one that said install drivers. It says that setting is used when first connected to a computer or when the drivers were unavailable. I ran the kingo root, connected the device, waited for it to show the model then clicked the root. Somewhere between five to ten minutes later it said root succeeded. I verified the root using two different root checkers and i have pictures of the verified root. I will do another post with the pictures as soon as i figure out how to post them on here.

Hello I need to correct the post I made. The root access that I had for the N9518 was just a temporary root access. still figuring out how to make it permanent.
I just ordered the phone it will be here Saturday, if I can get temp root I think I have a pretty good idea how to make it permanent, I was the first and only one to find permanent root on the LG Stylo 2 and my method is pretty universal.

Im not a dev either just a dude who loves messing with android. As soon as I get it Saturday I'll start messing with it and if my technique works I'll post a guide. Also all I can say is never update until you get root most of the time security patches are patches for root vulnerabilities and we want those root vulnerabilities, so if you havent updated good, if you have well try not to update any more if it pops up.

So the method that you recommended did not work for me the only way I had gotten the temp root was the kingo root over usb connection it gave me a temporary root then I tried to follow the guide that you sent me the link to when I did that and rebooted the system the root was removed. So I went and removed the kingo root and went and installed the king root tried to root it that way it failed twice and then on the third attempt to root it soft bricked my phone and I had to factory reset my phone. So no root yet, maybe you will have better luck. I shall continue to look for a way to make the root permanent, and will post anything I find. There has to be a way, there just has to. Good luck

i just got the phone, been messing around with it didnt realize it was so locked down I only have been able to get temp root once then lost it from a mandatory reboot, gonna keep at it hopefully soon anyone will find root.
Tried KingRoot, made it to 27% on 2nd try but had to factory reset twice.
