Help unrooting - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So I want to unroot my phone. But the unrooting guide (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671577) is several months old I believe. Also, in the guide he says that you can flash the RUU to a newer version but not to an older version. well the RUU's that are linked for download are 1.12 and 1.13. I am currently running MeanRom which is 1.22. Is this a problem?

The correct RUU to run is going to depend on your H-boot and firmware, not on the ROM.
Why in gods name would you want to unroot?

I understand that it is not related to the ROM. but the ROM I am running is based off of the 1.22.651.36 RUU. So I could't run a different RUU. And I am unrooting to see if I can possibly get 3g data back. I have absolutely no data even when my wife has full 3g right next to me. If that doesn't resolve it, then I need it unrooted so that I can exchange it. I personally wouldn't un root if I didn't think it 100% necessary.

Try updating to the latest radio version. It might fix your 3g problem. I believe flashing radios requires S-OFF or version 1.12 of hboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704612
This won't affect your root or bootloader status.

Also, maybe try updating your Profile and PRL?

I unrooted and got my 3g back. I am going to see about rerooting it and seeing if my problem persists. I will also look into updating Profile and PRL.
Thanks for the suggestions.

radio s-off for flyer?

i just picked up a wifi only best buy flyer. downloaded the 2 brightstar RUUs in preperation for future exploring
im familiar with htc devices(had several htc phones),and familiar with revolutionary. since the honeycomb installs require an incompatible hboot, and the fastboot flashing of seperate partitions,i was wondering if there is ANY procedure that could work to achieve a true radio s-off for the flyer?
i understand the need for the HC install procedures, and radio s-off would let us just flash whole ruus without needing to worry about the main version tag.
downgrade and adb dont scare me
since were on the subject of ruus, will all the ruus listed run on the best buy flyer(understanding that some phone and carrier specific parts wont work) if one uses the permanent revolutionary hboot and a gold card? having some experience with a multicarrier htc merge, seems like they should. pretty comfortable with hboot flashes and running .exe files on my phones, just making sure im still on familiar ground
No, only the Brightstar RUUs run on the BB Flyers.
Thanks for the reply. What will happen if you flashed a different ruu? FCs and non-functionality,or won't boot?
Do the different variants not share an hboot and kernel?

If you try to flash a different model like a 3g on a wifi only , it will detect the wrong model number and refuse to install. If you flash a different region RUU on the same model, it may work, but you will not have your locals to match, i.e you might be missing English US. The software is all the same, so there is no reason to do that.

That is not entirely correct. This only applies in a scenario where an upgrade to HC has been done. If you stay within honeycomb RUUs goldcards will work.

[Q] Can't wipe data in recovery

Hey everyone... I've searched and searched and haven't found anything that resembles the problem I'm having... hoping someone can help! I've been recently flashing the RAGE Rom and have been enjoying it... I recently updated from Ver 1.5 to 1.7 but I had a lot of random reboots. Sometimes it would reboot while the phone was sleeping. I attempted to go back into recovery and do a fresh install, but every time I attempted to wipe data/cache the phone would reboot. I basically can't do much of anything in recovery without the phone rebooting. I want to resolve all the random reboots but I'm lost as to how.
I'm currently S-On but would be willing to try to go S-OFF if it will help resolve the issues I've been experiencing. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.
What does your hboot read? Radios, hboot?

Ok, i'm sort of a NOOB so I might need a little hand holding:
The baseband version in the "About Phone" settings say 1.22.10.0310r, 1.22.10.0308r. Is that what you need to know? Thank you for helping!

Ok.. lol I can help you thru tomorrow or another day.yes Your baseband is radios.. your on the previous firmware according to what you left.. you can run an ruu and unlock again and flash amonRa again..from that point you can either stay s-on and try to continue to flash as you see fit. Or you can s-off from this point. I'd be more than willing to walk you thru it on gtalk. if not ill help you just run the ruu.

Here's the ruu http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/ relock your bootloader. rename download to PH98IMG put on sd. And boot to hboot. It'll find it and automatically and prompt you to update. You'll have to unlock and flash amonRa again after. But as I said I can could walk you thru it gtalk better tomorrow or another day.

[Q] Updating Evo

So ill start by saying I've been scouring the internet all night and I'm confused as hell. I have had the Evo LTE since day one, rooted it the same day and have not updated it since. I am on S-On, 1.13.651.1, hboot 1.12 and have twrp 2.3.1.0. I want to update to the latest version, radios and everything, what is the best way to do this without bricking my phone and keeping root? The stock rom is fine for me I just need root.

First of all you have missed a couple firmware updates, but since you are s-on you need to update using a RUU head to vipeRuu thread and follow the script instructions, then unlock again using htc dev, install twrp and then flash supersu and busy box, you will be s-on, unlocked and rooted on stock. Navigation doesn't work on some jelly bean roms on some phones, it just crashes, no fix as of today, use telenav, waze or scout. Good luck!

I would suggest using FacePalm to get your phone S-OFF
Then you can update your firmware/radios
There is no need to run an RUU unless you need to go back to stock reason being you don't really want to update your hboot
Any questions shoot me a PM

yes you can root with out s-off but why not S-off of the ability is out there? S-off gives you unbridled access to your system for better of worse. Though you may be S-off you don't have to use it, but if you need it and don't have it then your screwed. Then you have to go through the entire process all over again. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. This thread is a perfect example. He wants to upgrade his radio not impossible with s-on but far more difficult. When I updated my radio I just flashed the .zip file like a rom. No need to rename files place them In the root directory yada yada yada. Just my opinion.

By the way I'm not bagging you over it. Simply saying the phone came out in June last year S-off has been available since July the same year. A year later there are three versions that do the same thing. Good on you for realizing s-off needed to be obtained. Once you are s-off there is nothing that will keep you from truly manipulating your phone any way you desire.

Yeah, i rooted the phone the day i got it, the only thing available at the time was s-on. Phone was/is running great, but i noticed i'm 4 updates behind and i have started seeing 4g in my area so i though it would be a good time to update the radios. Thanks for the suggestions guys, i got s-off now and going to try to update later.

[Q] GSM ROM Troubles

A friend of mine has given me his phone to fix and it's in a state, i'm at a loss at what to do now.
This problem is:
He tried to flash a new rom (it was rooted, S-ON and Hboot 1.53) he got stuck on a boot loop but the clever sod decided not to do a backup before the flash. He is now in bootloop without a Rom in sight that i can find to flash it.
Every other thread I have looked at has got broken links in so that's why i'm making a new thread for it. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Have you tried re-rooting and s-off, downgrading hboot And all that? (Start a fresh)
thisis50.com if its hot its here
I had that same problem before. What i did was flash an RUU exe file. Search for it here. This time be sure he makes back-up before flashing another custom rom and also better if you do s-off and hboot downgrade if you wanna flash jb or sense 4 above. Only sense 3.6 roms and gb worked for me when i had s-on.

Check for your specific carrier's RUU here. You also need to install htc drivers for the pc to see your phone.
Iv'e downloaded (and installed) both the drivers and the RUU, but every time i go to launch it, it comes up with the phone not found.
any suggestions?
Edit: Iv'e got it to recognize the device but now its saying "The ROM Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again"
This is the correct utility though?

Did you download the right RUU that was originally installed on the phone or at least know which carrier you're with? Also make sure you download shooter_u if you have gsm phone and shooter if you have cdma.

Yeah, it's for the Vodafone carrier so i downloaded the corresponding RUU, i also made sure its the "ShooterU" one too, i'm at a loss again haha.
with your hboot you'll need an ICS RUU. unfortunately there isnt one for vodafone. your best bet would be to flash 4EXT recovery, turn on smartflash and then install a rom that can boot on 1.53 hboot (I'd recommend Yoda ICS as its known to boot on 1.53 s-on)
yeah.. as I said from previous post if youre having a hard time with Ruu exes. flash a sense 3.6 rom or Gb rom. it should work.

[Q] HTC Evo 4g LTE Help

First of all please dont kill me if i am going about this the wrong way. I have tried to seach fourms here and all over the net and have yet to find a solution. Please if I cant resolve this issue the device will be getting a bath. I would rather not if I can avoid it. Please if someone can help or at least point me in the right direction. thanks in advance.

Sounds like you haev the incorrect radio installed. Please consult your rom developer, or find a radio that works with your carrier and flash it.

I have never messed with the radios and it worked at one time. Would that still be radios. I can't imagine if I have not messed with radios and it worked at one time if the radios are the problem. I could be wrong.
Post your baseband version and what rom update you are on and we can tell you if that is a potential issue.
And you said it used to work... How long ago? Have you flashed a rom update recently? Did it just stop out of nowhere?
Android 4.1.1
software version Viper4G 3.1.5
baseband 1.02.12.0427
please let me know if any other info is needed
Yea, that's an old radio from like almost 2 years ago. They were not known as being the most reliable for LTE stuff. If you aren't S-off then my suggestion is to relock the bootloader then RUU to the newest 4.3 (backup your storage to the PC first because I think it wipes it due to needing to repartition for the 4.3 update since the system is bigger). This has the newest radio and touchscreen firmware as well as allowing you to run newer versions of the roms you like. You'll have to redo the bootloader unlock and recovery, but it's the same process as before. If you are S-Off then you might be able to just skip the RUU and flash the firmware package only.
My hboot is 1.12.0000 I thought I read that you could flash radios with that hboot but I have not found anything to confirm this. Is that true? Would it be easier to just unroot and update or just take it all the way to S-Off and then update the radios?
Depends on what you feel more comfortable with, but I would think it would be best to do the full RUU since it's a big deal about the repartition thing. It's the reason HTC came out with the official RUU only instead of an OTA update.
Info here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...date-as-a-full-ruu-file-no-ota-update-coming/
