app migration - GB to ICS - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I'm trying to get data moved over from my previous phone (an Epic - non-touch) to the Note for a book catalog app. On the epic I've found the data I want - I think - under .android_secure, but I don't know where to put that on ICS for the note.
I'd REALLY prefer not to have to duplicate this work since there are 350+ books in my catalog, and the majority had to be entered by hand. Where can I drop the file from the epic into ICS so it's readable? I can't even FIND .android_secure on ICS and I've tried everywhere, including / (above /sdcard).
I guess as a secondary issue - can anyone recommend a good book catalog app where this is not likely to be an issue a second time?

What file manager are you using on the Note? That folder is there, but probably hidden. You need to show hidden files.

I was using estrongs file explorer, with the 'show hidden' option already enabled. I can see other stuff that has a . at the front, but no .android_secure
-edit-
I also tried with the stock 'my files' app, 'show hidden' enabled, still no dice.

Hmmmmm..I have it.
Guess you could try adding it. Not sure what would happen though. Can't hurt.

Where is this, on the internal memory (aka /sdcard) or the removable sd slot (aka /sdcard/external_sd)?

Its on internal. Seems like a strange spot for the data to be in. Did you check under /sdcard/Android/data and see if that apps data folder is in there?

Yep. There is nothing there except a cache folder where a csv file is created when doing a catalog export. I've written the developer with questions, since there's apparently supposed to be an import feature but I sure as hell can't find it, and there's no separate feature list for free/pro since november of last year.

Strange...then I guess give it a shot and see what happens. Good luck.

I think I finally found the bit with instructions on how to import the data. Now I just need to generate a fresh export on my old epic. Oy.
Thanks for the attempts at help, folks! The request for any recommendations for a bookshelf catalog app still stands :]

Root your epic. Buy titanium backup. Back it all up to SD card. Root your note, install titanium backup. Restore your USER apps. NOT system apps. Stuff should be there

[Q] Help: Rouge App! Possible Adware

So maybe two days ago I rebooted my phone and got a weird notification. A white star with a circle in the center telling me I "have 1 new message." it brings you to ad.leadboltapp.net and quickly forwards you to addjump.com. I can't figure out what's causing this. Anyone have any ideas?
I've done a complete wipe, relfash, and partial restore with TB only to have it come back.

Hi Mate
Without more info im a little unsure it does look like a potential adware program. When you flashed did you wipe all cache from the phone it may be the program is hidden in the cache folders.
Yes, sir. All cache, all stats... everything you can do from cw recovery. the only thing left I can think of is reflash with odin and reinstall apps one at a time and rebooting after each installation.
What other info would help?
Did you find out what this was? I had the same thing just now. Also had some strange "Service messages" lately.
It's probably an app with Airpush or whatever it's called that puts ads in your notification bar. There's an app to detect apps that use the technology. If that's what it is, uninstall the app. If not, you may need to do a full wipe/RUU/restore or whatever you prefer.

Look for AirPush Detector in the Market. Install and run it, and it will tell you which app is responsible.
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, AirPush detector didn't find. I'm going to move to a new ROM soon anyway and probably won't re-install half the apps I have. So hopefully I'll lose whatever it was.
Thanks again.
Never figured it out. I wiped everything and only installed a quarter of my apps. My guess is that one of my apps was being naughty. Not sure which one, I don't have the patience to determine which one.

Well then you may be out of luck. It most likely came from an app that you got from somewhere other then the market. Not the best idea.
It's some stupid app you installed. Lol. Also it's rogue*

Never had any none market apps.
I had the same issue and used AirPush detector which identified one of my themes used with Go Launcher as the spammer.
You can also try "Addons Detector". It is supposed to be more effective than AirPush Detector.
I´ve removed all the live wallpapers and themes that downloaded after installed my Go Launcher and it functioned... I have not received any "star" in my status bar in the last two days... Thank you to all who contributed in this thread

I hope I don't sound like a prick, but uninstall the programs in that list and I am sure you won't have it. Why would you want to delete your list of installed apps? Also, try AppBrain and FastWebInstall (?, same company) if you haven't. You can make as many lists as you please and delete them with just as much grace. It's pretty much another way of using Play without completely doing so. It's also great because Google's backup and restore isn't perfect.
Perhaps I misunderstood the problem.

This list depends on with which gmail ID you are logged in. If you login with a different gmail ID, the list will change according to which app you have downloaded using that ID.
So if you wanna hide/delete the list, you need to login with another ID!

Even if you uninstall the programs, the apps will still be in that list since it's a list of your entire account history of installed apps (instead of saying "installed", it will give you the option to install them).

It seems that the thumbnails persist even after the captured images have been deleted from the Gallery. I wonder if a reboot will shift them (thinking as I type).

Nope.
Thumbnails are persisting on mine even after a Restart.
This is one for the experts, I think.
Clear thumpnails in gallery or delete thumpnails in your sd and do a media scan(open gallery) to rebuild thumpnails
Has anyone found a way to do this? Please help.
Thanks.
clear images/screenshots from ICS clipboard
Hello, I just registered to post that I am having this problem too.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, rooted, running ICS 4.0.3
Long press on the image doesn't work, nothing happens.
I have a solution.
1. Open Polaris Office.
2. Create a new Word document.
3. Scroll along the bottom until you see a clipboard icon.
4. Click it and you should see the images on the clipboard.
5. Long press for the delete dialog as normal.
I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that the reason it can't be deleted is because you are trying to delete it in a field that accepts only text for some reason.
I'm guessing if you can find a place that allows images to be pasted, the clipboard will let you delete them, such as it is with Polaris or possibly other similar apps.

Google Wallet not certified in your country/carrier

Anyone else have this message? I've had my Wallet account set-up, prepaid card and the free $10 added. I went to clear my settings just now and this popped up.
Notes: The phone is completely stock. Not rooted/Not unlocked.
Also, How can I clear the Wallet settings to unlock, if I can't get to the screen to clear them?
Not another thread. This is out of control.

I am assuming you didn't bother to check any of the other Google Wallet threads.

I searched, And found lots of people with problems not being able to add a card, or rooted users having the "unsupported device" message. This appears to be different?
EDIT: I'm an idiot. Added the word "certified" to my search and came up with results. My bad.
Google Wallet fix:
Use at your own risk... I'm not responsible for any damage to ur phone.
You need a file explorer that can change read/write permissions, I use root explorer.
I cleared Google wallet from settings, apps, all apps, select wallet. I cleared all and cache.
Open your file browser, system and find build.prop
Make sure to set file browser to read/write, on top of screen with root explorer.
Select build.prop with long press, open in text editor.
I've included photos, change lines lines 13 & 64 only. Make ur 2 lines like what my photos show... Read carefully....
ro.product.model=
ro.product.device=
to both equal this: GT-I9300

Save while exiting out of build.prop, go to super user settings. Turn super user off.
Reboot phone.... Test Google wallet to see if works, better use wifi to register first time, takes time to configure....
I turned super user back on after getting wallet working.
Worked for me, let me know or pm me questions.
I don't claim to be the one who figured this out, worked for me, trying to help others.
I did this and it worked great thanks. I also went back to stock. ro.product.model= htc_jewel then ro.product.device= jewel. So what I did was just changed jewel to htc_jewel saved. Tried it and it worked. Omg I love myself.

Materialized App Icons for ALL Android (Download & Tutorial)

Hi, this is my first real thread and I hope this helps or makes someone's day
Apps like Snapchat, Instagram, Kik, among others are behind on material design. Their launch icons are not material. I am not claiming that I have found this, but I'd like to share this.
First, you will need APK Editor Pro, in the Play Store. When you open it, it will say
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
If you have APK with you downloaded, use it. If not use APK from app(system apps can't be used, you'll have to extract the apk or convert to user app or uninstall and reinstall).
Pick the app's icon you are going to change. I chose ROM Toolbox Pro.
When you click it, it will say this..
You'll want to click simple edit.
When you do that, you'll come up with this---
NOW read very carefully there are two ways of replacing the image.
Way 1: Find the HDPI folders.
Android apps have these folders that contain the images of the app. You can find them usually by clicking /RES folder. In ROM Toolbox Pro, the app icon is here.
We got lucky, but in some apps you'll have to replace it multiple times for multiple DPI and HDPI's.
Click the little pencil and box right next to the floppy disk(save) icon and replace the image with absolutely any image you want. I changed it already, but for the sake of this tutorial, I'll change it again.
As you can see I've already downloaded and done some apps, I'll show then at the end.
Once you pick an image,
Hit the save button.
Way Two:
Go to images, find the launcher icon, replace and save.
HINT: the name is usually either: appicon ic_launcher_icon or something along that line.
Hit the save button.
It will come up with this.
Click install and you have your custom/materialized icon!

Nice post but kinda useless as apps are constantly updated so you be doing this a lot.
There is a better solution which is Desktop Visualizer from playstore.
You will only have to do the process once and it's done.

I get what you're saying, but for me, I want material design icons on stock TouchWiz, and this allows me to do it. Plus, you can change it to absolutely anything, so that's honestly my point. Using this gives us extra freedom and customization to our Android devices.
