Installing Kernels on Rooted S ON phone. - HTC Rezound

I was wondering if it is normal for the kernel info under About-Software-More to always stay the same after a new kernel has been flashed? I have installed NilsP Business ICS (both 3.6&4.0) and both times the kernel says it is installed correctly but the name is unchanged when I look in setting under About-Software-More. My kernel always says: 3.0.16-hd0049f1 [email protected] #1 smp preempt. Any thoughts?
Thank you,
Alex

if you are s-on then you will need to flash the kernel out side of recovery. so unless nils rom installs then automatically rebooted you to hboot to finish the kernel wasnt installed.
i know he has in the second post the different kernels that are out. pick one, rename it to PH98IMG.zip and place it on root of sd card.
reboot to hboot and let it install.
done.

Yes, I have done that and It successfully completes. I guess my concern is how do I tell I am running the correct kernel? It appears to me that the kernel name does not change when I look at about phone-software info-more then read the kernel version. Mine currently says 3.0.16-hd0049f1 [email protected] #1 smp preempt. I just installed business ice 3.6. Since I do not have S OFF will the phone display the default kernel even though one has been flashed over it?

as long as the kernel says 3.0.16 and the build number is 144 then they havent changed anything from the last 3 leaks.

Okay, I'm just used to seeing a lot of Roms go with a custom kernel option. Coming from a rooted dinc, I used an incredikernel with a lot of the custom roms I used.I was concerned because it displays the exact same kernel as the ota ics update put out by Verizon. Do a lot of developers stick with stock kernels for rezound roms?

i came from the inc too. the reason there isnt that many options is because we dont have source for ICS yet. so as far as i know the .10 ruu is the latest kernel and the other 2 leaks that came after are still using that kernel.
once source drops we will see kernel development.

Thank you very much! I didn't realize we didn't have the source code yet. I really appreciate your help.

Has anyone flashed this kernel?
I downloaded this from the link at the top, and flashed via TWRP recovery (yes I did wipe the caches).
After I rebooted, I checked the Kernel version, and either it didn't work, or the version of this kernel is the same as the original one I had, 1.11.651.3. In fact, I tried this twice, but the results are still the same.
Am I missing something?

Do you have hboot 1.5? Just asking because there are ~2 more steps to take before flashing a kernel... Or I heard you can use Flash Image GUI.
Sent from my Infected EVO3D! Virus, you rock!
I flashed a AOSP kernel, and my rom didn't load. so I restored a backup and my wifi didn't work and also. So i flashed this kernel and now my backup doesn't work or even any rom that I have downloaded.
using viperrom before.
now nothing is working
questions is:
1. is there a way to flash a kernel, using recovery?
2. what roms work with this kernal?
im getting really sick of this evo3d.

1. Yes, so long as you are NOT HBOOT 1.5
2. This is a stock HTC Sense kernel as clearly outlined in the OP. It is not AOSP.

yeah I have Hboot 1.5
and I know I installed a kernel for AOSP and downloaded an AOSP rom. I should have said that before. but The AOSP rom didnt load, it just hanged on the HTC screen. So i recovered my backup using still on the AOSP kernel, it worked excluding WIFI and some other stuff. so I installed this kernel using GUI app, and restored my back up again. and now it just hangs.
now I can't find a rom for this kernel I downloaded three different roms, all sense. none of them are working.

Question about Sebastian's Kernel 1.4

So I have been browsing around and have decided to flash the newest version of Sebastian's overclocked kernel. I am S-Off on the newest HBOOT currently running zhp's Vigor 1.1 on the latest ICS RUU.
I am assuming I just flash the zip provided (kernel) via recovery correct? Also, what programs do you guys use in order to tune the speed of the cpu's? Is it built into the kernel?
I have also been hearing that people get problems flashing the kernel straight up, and that they need to flash the stock kernel before hand then flash Sebastian's over that. Is this true?
Thanks in advance.

Flash in recovery ( make sure not cwm, our phones dont seem to like that one too much, I would use Amonra for something as serious as a kernel, then switch back TWRP for fun), simple as that, i wipe cache and dalvik but heard that it was unnecessary. You wont lose anything if you do
I use incredicontrol by chad, but sebastians doesn't have fast charge built in. SO that option wont be available.
People get problems because they are s-on flashing it, you dont have to worry, make sure you dont have a ph98img stored on your sd card in case of trouble you can just go to recovery from hboot and flash a different kernel. and make sure u match the kernel with your rom of course, sense 4 , sense 3.6 , aosp , or whatever, i see your rom but i am making sure you understand you cant just slap a kernel that was intended for a different platform.
Changing voltage ABILITY is built in the kernel, but to harness it , you need an app , once again i like incredit kernel, i am hearing issues with setcpu, choose your flavor.

Thank you for your great response. I think this is for Sense 3.6. I will also try out incredicontrol and get back to you on that.
*EDIT
Where can I find out that this is for 3.6?
Edit:
To add to this it look like it will work on any ROM that has a unsecured boot.img. Now I haven't tested that..
Here you go
Edit : I would listen to zone ... lol he is awesome ...

Are you using the right kernel and not a jb one? What does it do when you try to flash one, we need a little more info.
My apologies.. It was booting to a black screen.. I think I realized the problem, tho when zarboz kernel was updated to work with the new base. Maybe I'm wrong, I still have a lot to learn here... But it flashed and booted..

Yeah most of the kernels we have are for the old base. Have to make sure the bases match.

You don't need to flash a kernal with MR 4.0 and higher just run the 4.3 zip and go and 4.4.2 is OC'ed @ 1.89 and 4.4.3 is OC'ed @1.79 using EvilZ kernal baked in
Ok I just thought it wasnt there because in the settings about phone the kernel version never changed. So is there a way to change governors with this kernal?

4.4.4? If so did you flash the OC on zip? You might be running the stock kernel instead of the custom..

[Q] Cubed Kernel

What is a Cubed Kernel? Is it the one that came with Droid DNA? I see version 2.4.2 floating around. Mine is 3.4.10.
What is the main advantage of flashing a new version of kernel?

You have to have a rooted phone to flash kernels. The Cubed kernel is a modified kernel for root users that gives you the ability to overclock your phone, better battery life and such. It is not the one that came with the DNA, the DNA is the stock kernel from the factory. Don't go by the numbers you see because they are 2 totally different kernels for totally different reasons...

I did root my phone through a very convoluted method involving imei numbers etc. I flashed the boot.ini and the cubed kernel yesterday and was able to verify it. I did not reset factory or anything when I flashed the kernel. Now it has restarted by itself for more than 50 times in 12 hours. I am trying to find the stock kernel.
Have anyone faced the same issue?:crying:

I get random restarts as well on Cubed Kernel - untouched, didnt even change the governors. I guess a lot more optimizing needs to be done to it to support the variations in our devices.

it does, and I request on behalf of the Dev, to post in the kernel thread, with logs, and kmsg. this is the only way we can figure out the bugs,
more people who post, the quicker issues are found.

This is the stock kernel but just modified to be able to write to the system while booted. It basically is the stock kernel and will work exactly like the stock kernel does. To switch kernels, just do what you did before when you installed the kernel you're on now. Just make sure you flash the correct module zip in recovery after you flash it.

You need to run a 2.04 kernel with a 2.04-based ROM. Running a 1.15 kernel with a 2.04-based ROM will cause the flickering, so you need to pair a 1.15 kernel with a 1.15 ROM or a 2.04 kernel with a 2.04 ROM. What Kernel/ROM combination did you flash?
