Google wallet reset - Not supported pop-up - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I have a rooted LTEVO (using Zedomax's method), with a modified build.prop (for the Apple patent issue), and I am trying to gain s-off/install TWRP/install custom ROM/etc.
I have read multiple warnings to reset Google wallet before proceeding with custom ROM installs. However, when I open GW, I can't do anything other than press "ok" to the pop-up stating "Not supported" (Unfortunately, Google wallet is not yet available for your device or mobile network).
Is there another way to reset GW? Should I proceed with s-off/custom ROM/etc without doing anything to GW?
Thanks

Just to be safe go to settings> apps> wallet clear data, then continue with what you're doing, if your on the latest ota you can't get s-off, you need to flash a rom on the latest ota to use Google wallet

Thanks, I am still on 1.13.651.1 as I did not accept the OTA. I have been having issues getting s-off with Lazypanda, but I plan on trying again soon. I think my modified build.prop was causing Lazypanda to fail but that has nothing to do with this thread.

Don't worry about wallet, you don't have to reset it because you never set it up. On another note, I have installed 15 different roms and factory reset more than that and my wallet works fine each time without resetting. I think its a myth, but you do what you need to do.

Yeah, same here. I forgot to clear GW for my last 3 flashes and no problem here either. I wipe cache, dalvick, factory reset, and system.

There were times i flashed roms and didn't reset gw and mine still works but i didn't want to tell you not to and then it breaks, but in another note when first attempted to get s off i was on flex rom i tried 3 times and didn't work so i flashed a stock rom (fresh rom) then it worked so try that, i kept getting panda not found or something like that when i was on flex rom

Well, hate to be the roodypooper, but google wallet can and will brick at the slightest touch. I've done it to 2 phones while following directions to a "T".
I know, I know, its like I'm a 59 year old junkie telling a bunch of high schoolers the dangers of drugs. But please be careful and always clear/reset/use Charmin ultra soft toilet paper to wipe gwallet.
Seems that my problems came when flashing new roms. So, don't be a flashaholic on the EVO LTE like u did on the og EVO, if u care about wallet functionality that is. Good luck.

Yeah, I actually had GW set up and working before it got shut down, so I will probably have to be careful with it. On a side note, I think I am going to do a factory reset, then gain s-off, then take care of the rest of the steps to get up to date. Thanks for all the feedback!

[Q] Do you need to clear Google Wallet security before root?

As in the title! I know you have to clear Wallet for flashing a new ROM or doing a hard reset, but I just want to root the stock ROM, not install a new ROM. Will I need to "clear" Wallet first or is it safe to root while it's activated?
Also, if I end up needing an OTA update or RUU in the future, and it kills my root/su, will that damage Wallet permanently as well?
Thanks all!
if you are useing a method that unlocks the bootloader or hardresets your phone i would say yes.. but otherwise i dont believe so
For anything you should is just an extra measure since a lot people in the galaxy nexus forums reported, failed secured element, personally I root my galaxy nexus and unlocked after I set up wallet and nothing happens, flashed maybe 5 roms and I found out about what people was saying about secure elementos since then, I'm used to clearing the google wallet settings before flashing new rom

What if I have not set up wallet yet, do I need to clear before rooting?
If so, how do I do it? Sorry for the dumb a$$ question.
Thanks,
Ian B
If you did not set up Wallet you will be fine. As a matter of fact when you reset Wallet you actually bring it back to stock so if you didn't set it up it already is where it should be. You will be fine.

I forgot to clear Google Wallet before I rooted and flashed a ROM but I didn't have GW setup before this. I checked it and It's back to the stock initial setup of the account.

Sort of scared to root, as I heard Google Wallet can be exploited via NFC if you are root!

[Q] Edited Build.prop File, Now Phone wont Boot

In attempting to edit my Build.prop with root explorer to fix my Google Wallet issue, I must have screwed something up. When I try to re-boot the phone, it wont boot up.
My best guess is, when attempting to revert back to Build.prop.bk (or whatever the back up file was named), I deleted the .bk but didn't save it, and now have TWO DIFFERENT Build.prop.bk files, and no Build.prop.
I can boot into the screen that shows "Fastboot", "Recovery" (though I haven't installed any recovery and have not unlocked the bootloader), "Factory Reset", etc.
Is there any way to get to the Build.prop file using my windows computer or even using the phone, and check to see it's named correctly? I'd really like to not have to reset the phone.
Oh, I don't know if this is relevant, but I am rooted and the screen shows ***Tampered*** and ***Locked***.
Well, no answers so far.
I have since tried clearing storage AND restoring back to factory settings, but it still will not boot! Also, it is extremely difficult to get to the Hboot screen. Holding down power and vol down only works one out of maybe 6 or 8 times. I don't know why.
Run Ruu but that could risk a bricked google wallet chip/secure element

Well, I need to read about how to do that.
When you say that could risk a "bricked Google Wallet chip", do you mean it could screw up ONLY google wallet, or it could screw up my NFC chip altogether???
Also, any link on where to get and run RUU? That is the stock ROM, no? If my phone won't do a factory reset, I assume I have to download the stock ROM?
I also found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27248539
However, my Hboot screen also shows S-On, even though I had rooted. I may have left SuperSU with superuser off when this happened. Will that affect my ability to fix this?
Thanks.
im not 100% but i believe running ruu will unroot you and factory reset.also it will jst brick the secure element not other nfc capabilities.did you reset wallet before you messed up the build prop or was it still setup?
EDIT:here i the link for the ruu.also please don't follow that guide if you are not htc dev unlocked because it is impossible to flash a recovery unless your htc dev unlocked/unlocked bootloader
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Jewel
I had just got Google wallet working! The instructions I was following said, after you get it working, temp unroot and reboot the phone. Thats where I got stuck!
So no, I did not have the chance to re-set Google Wallet.
Thanks for the link. So is that the stock ROM? Will I have to update my PRL? Do I download the newest (higher version number)?
well you could possibly brick the secure element.if it bricks the secure element just unroot and take it back to sprint.yes download 1.13.xxx
no need to update prl
Well, I'm having no luck fixing this.
I am trying to use ADB and Fastboot on my Win 7 PC to flash the RUU to my phone. I don't really know if I'm doing it correctly though.
Edit: Well, I feel pretty stupid. I finally realized that an exe file needs to be run from the computer. I guess I'm just soooo frustrated I can't think.
So I ran it and it force closed. Let me try that again.
just click the ruu and follow the steps no need to use adb
Thank you, par05is!!!
That seems to have done it. You were the only one to reply, and I am grateful.
I just don't know how I f'd this up to begin with. Now I have to re-ad everything and re-root. But no Google wallet fixes for me.
If they want me to use it, they can fix it!!
No problem if you need help with the wallet I can help.they put unnecessary steps
Yes, that would be great.
But I'm more than a little worried, trying to do that is what got me into this mess in the first place! I successfully edited the build.prop file a couple of days ago to get file associations back, but I must have f'd up editing it again today.
Since I was un-able to reset Google Wallet before flashing that RUU, GW now tells me my country is not supported!

Yes, after the update I still get the "GW is not certified in your country or on your device/carrier.
I've tried un-installing the update, clearing the data, re-installing the update, but still get the message.
So mtg981, does the build.prop edit fix this? Or are you saying to forget Wallet right now till Google fixes it or someone comes up with a new fix?
some people are editing the build.prop file by using the model number of a nexus phone, in think it was. That id probably what you were trying? As much trouble as it has been, I'm forgetting about it. I heard Sprint was wallet's last carrier to support it, and now Sprint might be starting their own payment form.

Apple is trying to use iTunes for people to pay for everything. That is why there is the big race for carriers to develop their own "reliable" payment forms-like apple and iTunes. Apple could try and patent that some how, if they reach that point of letting people buy anything with their iPhone, through iTunes.
And that would suck! Another apple patent!

I hope HTC or Sprint patents it first (hint...go now Sprint/HTC to the patent office) and then stick it to the fruity one.
Why you wanna be hating on Apple?

no certified in your country (google wallet)

all of a sudden google wallet started giving me this error Unfortunately, Google Wallet has not yet been certified in your country or on your device / carrier.
This is the first time ive gotten this, ive been stuck on the adding a card and i peroidicly check from time to time to see if it works yet and tonight and i now im getting this.. I have to hit ok and it closes the app.. not sure what i should do, im running fresh rom 5.1.1 and it was working earlier today.. i havent installed any apps or anything like that..
i keep thinking to clear the app data and uninstall the update, but im afraid of breaking my secure element.. Anyone have any ideas?
and sorry for another google wallet thread.. i did try searching but didnt come up with much
I got the same error after a reboot today. I posted in the PSA thread.

I'm getting the same error, "google wallet has not been certified in your country..."
help here plss
Evidently since Sprint is going to introduce their form of wallet, called "Touch" (I think it was) google probably pulled it from us. That and they couldn't ever get it working for all of us. I got same message tonight too.

Anyone tried anything to fix it? I went into recovery and wiped my cache and dalvik cache. Still getting the same thing..
Just wondering if anyone tried clearing wallet data or uninstalled the update or app..

Same thing. I've been fighting with it all day cuz I thought it was because I flashed a custom ROM, but I've even gone back to stock and still getting it.
Interesting. Add this to the google wallet mystery bag. I just loaded up wallet. My app is nice and friendly with me still. I just rebooted a few times about an hour ago too as I did a nandroid(or the twrp equivalent).
I hope that google figures this out because
1. I want to support google and I want them to be successful
2. When iPhone 7 comes out with NFC technology, they will steal the glory and everyone in the cult will be oblivious that android even utilized it first. Google should patent and make an itc suit on it. Hehe.
EDIT/UPDATE
Upon waking up this morning and being paid, I was going to add funds to my google wallet account. I open the app and get the not supported in yuour country message.
I'm glad I at least didn't apply any money to it beforehand where I couldn't use it now.
Bummer.
I wish Google would make an announcement about this.

the google rep i talked to said that they disabled wallet for the lte for a little bit to fix an issue, i would just wait a while. they said they would send me an email once it was fixed. lol just relax and wait a bit this is one of this things that should fix itself. the Rep told me it had nothing to do with the phone itself its something on their end.

Google Wallet Setup Question (I know the issues...)

So, I know all the issues that Google Wallet is having, but my question is this: If you don't setup G Wallet, for example, like with the problems that we're having, can't open/set it up, does that make it safe to flash another rom w/o borking secure element? Or does it not matter and you have to wipe G Wallet settings on any ROM that has it installed? If you don't have to wipe if it isn't setup, that would cause me significantly less pain, but that's why I'm asking
Thanks in advance.
If you never set it up, you're fine.

Thanks, I was starting to get worried.
EDIT: What do you mean by never? Do you mean on that ROM, or before you wiped the settings? Or never ever in the phone?

So, if I set it up once, wiped the stats, but never actually used the app, I am free to wipe and install without wiping stats as long as I don't set it up again?
Just trying to make sure I don't bork it in case I want to use it in the future.
Yes. I set it up myself nit never used the 10 credit. It's never given me problems and I never wiped it.

Best approach to new OTA??

I've been doing my best in keeping up with all of the OTA threads but not sure what to do. I know I don't want to lose root or HBOOT.
I am currently running stock with ROOT, S-ON. I have not tried any of the custom ROMs to this point nor loaded TWRP.
I need root for Titanium Back-up and a couple other, non-essential apps. I was successfully using Wallet prior to their shutting it down and am eagerly looking to have it back. While not totally founded, I don't want to risk bricking NFC - though it looks like there is no definitive on whether going to RUU or anything else will brick this.
So, what's my best approach? I'm not opposed to going S-OFF as I was there on the OG EVO - just haven't had a need yet. I do want to be able to flash the radio though since I've had issue with WiFi NOT disconnecting when I leave a hotspot and go to 3G.
Thanks for any input and justification you can provide.

I was curious about that method. That's part of why I posed the question - not sure which is the best approach.
Sadly, it might not matter for a few days though. I really wanted Wallet up and running again. Side note: I hope I don't find the person that is skimming - put me between me and my google wallet and bad things happen. LOL...fockers stole my nfceebees...

Skimming is when someone steals your credit card number by swiping it through a card reader they are carrying or by replacing the swipe device at a gas pump, etc. they then create a fake credit card with the number they sole and place fraudulent charges. This has happened to me twice in 2 years. Part of why I want google wallet everywhere.
