Sgs2 can't mass storage - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
I don't know exactly when but in some where in the past between one rom and other, my sgs2 lost the ability to mass storage like a pen drive.
Now I'm using cmiui 2.8.10 and siyah kernel 4.0.1
I already reinstalled drivers on win7 64bits. The phone stopped working on my Ubuntu 12.04 64bits either
Ideas?

Wipe data/factory reset.
Elaborate on the problem, elaborate on what you've done to fix it and what your thoughts are.
Use question marks.

Menu->Settings->Wireless and network->More...->USB utilities->[Connect storage to PC]
Yeah, not the most appropriate place for that, is it?

OP is using cmiui 2.8.10 -> factory reset won't help, and cowbutt's method is only for stock Samsung FW's.
If you want to use mass storage on custom ROM (like me), install this app.

It's not working.
I can't get mass storage to work
I can charge the phone but can't use USB to exchange data.
I tried 4 cables in 3 box running xp32, win7 64 and Ubuntu 64...
I know I can work around that using wifi but I really would like to get my sgs2 usb working properly

[Q] Format Internal memory

Hi All
Is there a way to "format" your internal memory so that I can start fresh? When i load a new rom all files are still there.
Thank you
Llewellyn
Got the tab a few weeks back and after a bit of playing around I did a factory reset in settings / security.
When it rebooted I lost everything, folders, apps, pics etc. It was like I just took it out if the box.
I was a bit surprised because I have used the wipe data/factory reset function in cwm recovery a thousand times before on other android devices but SD card files always remained.
So try from settings.

I have noticed that doing a factory reset from a stock unrooted rom results in a clean format, while doing so from a rooted rom will reset the rom and still keep all files that are on the sd. I am not sure why it's like this, but that was learned from personal experience.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium HD app
I had to return my Samsung for repair before I could root it. As posted above the factory reset will do the trick for you. I would guess if you root or rom your tablet it would not remove these as well. Not sure about that though.

[Q] Is there any way to read NTFS on S3 OTG

Guys please help i want my NTFS USB drive to work with S3
Root and use a custom kernel.
SiyahKernel has fixed NTFS mounting and will auto root with CWM Recovery (if you don't already have). Flash via Odin or CWM zip.

is it possible without installing a custom ROM.. i mean any mod or procedure
That's not a custom rom. All you do is replace the kernel.
The ROM itself (everything you see and care about, including the Touchwiz) is not being touched. (also including all your data, they remain intact)
It would be possible to compile ntfs-3g drivers for S3 but frankly what is the point if there are kernels which already include these features?
You'd need root anyway so you won't be on stock either way round.
Flash the kernel (never mentioned ROM) with Odin and you're auto rooted, CWM recovery, and NTFS mounting.
Then, download Chainfire Triangle Away app to remove the binary flash counter.
Important, whenever rooting, make sure you backup your EFS folder! SiyahKernel will do this automatically (saved to internal sdcard) when flashing. Do not delete this, but keep in a safe place copied to your PC.

Is SiyahKernel still considered the best for this job? I have a relatively standard S3 rooted with CF root already, I'd like to keep it more or less the same. Would SiyahKernel be the simplest, least intrusive way to do this? What changes will I notice?

There are other custom kernels that probably will do the job. I just recommend siyah, as no issues with it.
Just take note of your current stock kernel version before flash, so you know what stock to flash if siyah is not for you.
This is the only path. Flash via Odin or cwm recovery (if your rooted and have it).

If you want to keep the stock kernel, use Paragon NTFS&HFS+ from Play Store. It's free.
I've tested with a NTFS USB Stick and the Stock XXBLG8 kernel and worked fine

Phone needs to be rooted though.
Try paragon. Works for me on my 32gb rooted sgs3 with too much pimped out accessories and features to list.
FYI: it will mount it deep in the Android file system
in a folder. What i do is unmount, then mount, choose
destination folder of my choosing.

Try formatting to exfat or smaller partitions. Never tried an external hdd, only usb sticks.
I dont think android can use ntfs naturally because microshaft put a flag on it and claimed it.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

How to get Kies work on TeamCooper

Hello,
I installed Teamcooper CM7.2 (nightly don't remember the exact version) on my mom's mobile.
The PC does not shows the device storage. Hence she cannot copy any pictures / songs to the mobile. ((Airdroid) Wifi is not an option for now)
Any help would be really appreciated
Cheers
Download samsung android usb driver from here
http://www.4shared.com/rar/vaejbJQG/samsung_usb.html
Extract the rar file and install driver.Restart PC(not compulsory). Now connect your phone..Done!!
As its Cyangenmod, I don't think you can use Kies. Just take out the memory card and shove it in your computer.

U cant use kies ...but u can use usb tethering along with the usb driver and connect phone to pc..
.vo-1 based cm7 roms require wired tether app but on the cm7 by T.A. usb tether works independantly

What I wanted to ask is how to get the USB work on PC. Since it's my mom's phone I wanted to help her. I made a mistake in flashing the custom firmware
Will try the USB drivers

ROM problem

Hey,
I installed cyanogenmod 9 on my gt-i9300, the installation went smooth, but then I had the great idea to install the Ninphetamin3 kernel as well, it turns out that they are not compatible with one another(or I did something wrong), now the phone starts up and keeps looping at the cm9 boot animation. I have no back ups on the internal sd card as I did these two actions at the same time, and the phone cannot read my original stock rom.
I might have accidentally deleted them in my haste(tried following a youtube fix that did not work9
question…..Can I put the cm9 rom and gapps on a micro sd, then plug it back into the phone and reinstall it this way?
btw this is my first android mobile, and I am using an osx system to root and any information on how to fix this problem via an osx system will be greatly appreciated.

Did you try wiping cache and dalvik cache?
99% of the time, wiping cache and dalvik cache will solve your bootloop problems and force closes.
Hey
Yepp I tried all of those, still no luck, will try with the micro sd later about 2am here in sthlm and I need some sleep before the old job...
I will update to say how it goes...
Ninphetamine kernel is a Samsung kernel, it is not compatible with CM9.
Why don't you just reinstall CM9?
hey,
That is what I would like to do, but I flashed cm9 with rom manager, and since my phone is stuck looping and the boot animation I cannot reco it from there. I tried doing it from clockworkmod recovery and cannot find the rom in the file system either....so my plan is to pop a micro sd into my computer transfer the files onto that, then pop it into the phone again and attempt to do it this way... Hopefully it can be done.
Download original firmware and flash with odin. Start over.

hmmm okey would it be better to start over from scratch then? would I have to format the entire internal sd before i start?
Also I cannot use odin(only osx or Ubuntu) so is the procedure the same with heimdall?
sorry for all the questions guys but like i said my very first android so a bit unfamiliar(should have switched ages ago)

Okey.... Update!
I transfered the cm9 and gapps onto my ext sd card using a laptop, then back into the phone. I reflashed and basically I have a phone that I can use again..
One more thing I noticed since reinstalling the cm9 rom
I got everything back but when I go to the play store on my computer it no longer recognizes my mobile, but
if I access it through my mobile it does is there any explanation for this?
Not a big deal but it would be nice to reinstall apps and some paid apps again without having to pay for them again..
any ideas?
Perhaps something to do with the baseband on cm9?
google play

okey, I just found it a bit strange that I can still download most of the paid apps from the play store via the phone and not the computer.
Does that mean if I restore the stock rom(no intention) that the store would recognize the phone again?
Just use your computer and flash stock rom to your GS3, that's how i solved similar problem with GS2 when it was looping.
Odin is fairly easy to use, tons of instructions online, finding right stockrom online might be time consuming.
Backup your phone ALWAYS! With cwm, i have big list of backups always ready, everytime you messing with new roms, kernels or what ever changes you make, it's worth the time, trust me.

If this is so you can drag and drop files (Music, Pictures etc) between your PC and mobile just install Kies this will install the correct drivers then just connect your phone, let the drivers install then whenever you connect the phone to the PC the Auto Play option will appear on your PC just click the folder.
You don't need to use Kies it just ensures you get the latest correct drivers, you can google the drivers and install separately if you want.
