first of all, if u did a full wipe..thats a big mistake..and never format /system ,unless specified or asked to.
if u didnt.. maybe try a simple reboot..or reflash rom.
hope this helps

A full wipe isn't a mistake when flashing. On the opposite, it's fully necessary for the new ROM to operate in it's full capacity.
The bar is missing because of a mistake when flashing, or a corrupted file that is used to flash. Try reflashing, or find some other .zip file of the same ROM.

i always back mine up on the internal sd card andhave a rom in there just in case..others may do it differently, but there are many options recovery allows you to download from pc via usb... but its better to always have a back up on your internal card in my opinion.. because in some cases you can lose access to the external sd card..just my opinion..just remember to take your time and read/follow instructions VERY carefully!!!
sd card
if you dont have room on internal sd card..then yes get an external sd card(you should always have one) and move some stuff over like media..etc

You might be misunderstanding on the sd card, you have an internal sd the phones drive, this is where I put my ROMs to flash. The external sd that you can put into the phone is or can be your backup, I use an external meaning I can remove it, this is where I put my backups of items.
I only use the built in drive internal sd for storage of my ROMs to flash. There are lots of video on this subject, just do a youtube search on the subject.
While we are at it, if you are on a computer check my links in my signature, I have a {General information and Helpful Tips} section for some good reading and the GNote Super page also for all your flashing needs. And you can PM me or just keeping posting lots of good folks around that will help.

Honestly, you need to use the search function. Read everything you can. If you have to ask if you're wrong, you're wrong about something. I know you don't like to hear this, and I also know you don't want to ruin your device. If you don't take the time to read and research, you won't understand the Rom that you flash anyways thus leading to more questions from you that can be solved by searching and you will only annoy the developers and ruin things for everyone because you developed bad habits of wanting things dropped in your lap. No one is here to hold your hand through the process when there's a wealth of information at your fingertips. All of the people that have accomplished flashing their phones have done so without a thread like this begging for a walkthrough. With all due respect, follow the rules because nobody is responsible for damage to your phone, but yourself.

[Video Guide] Xperia U --- How to unlock and Root

I had hidden it inside another thread, but figured it should be mentioned in the Q&A for all those that could use it.
For ICS (android 4.0+)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
For GB (android 2.3.7)
It will guide you step by step through the unlocking process and rooting the Xperia U
(same principles apply for P & S but no examples/kernels provided)
Credits (links)
Guide based on the information provided by DoomLord
The 1.564 kernel is made by DoomLord
The 3.184 kernel is made by KeiranFTW
More information about warranty: visit Sony Forum
For the noobs:
Root / Rooting = to lift the default protection of the Android OS and gives you access to all system files that are normally hidden from you
This enables extra functionality but also requires knowledge about the android system to know what is safe to do and what not.
- Simple root use: changing theme elements / new battery icons / individually controlling the LEDs
- Advanced root use: overclocking your CPU / adjusting the OS / making a custom ROM
Nice!!
Is Their Any Solution To Root Without Unlocking Bootloader . I Know Their is One in XPERIA U Development Thread but Its Links Are Not Valid ..and moreover its for Xperia U .564 firmware but I Want it For The .184 ?...
That one was fake.. Might be possible when ICS comes.. But am not sure
Sent from my ST25i
Thanks! It actually helped me root my XPERIA U!
Followed the guide, my U lost the ability to change colors when viewing the themes (cosmic flow) although when viewing images it still works fine. Also started getting some lag. Any way to somehow fix these?

This is a known bug on the Xperia U. However to fix it, all you have to do is install the Light1.1.apk from the following thread (Credits to straciam).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823418
PS: I have not tested this app but I speculate that this will be the solution based on the comments in that thread. I would recommend you to read the thread first. If this helped, do thank me and the developer of the app
@nixx-X1: I would like to request you to incorporate a re-locking guide for Xperia U. I would've done it myself but seems like your video tutorial actually makes things simpler.

Will try to do that when I get home next week thanks. I now have a new issue lol. Recently tried out supercharged kernel by vito, prob is that when I press the power button the screen somewhat flickers before fading to black. It goes fuzzy like in a tv but only quickly. Tried turning off and on my phone but its still there. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

To Un-root, all you need to do is Flash the stock ROM FTF. There are 2 threads in the Xperia U Development thread that has all the information of Download links to the FTF's ICS and GB. Just have a look. Just a quick guided video would be helpful.
---------- Post added at 04:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:11 PM ----------
I am using the Supercharged Kernel too and I do not exactly know if it is a problem coz I believe it is the fade out effect. I never experienced any flicker of any sort. Could you please tell me what precisely is happening? BTW, what ROM are u using?
Thank's!

Help.. Sony Xperia P.. messed up

Okay this is my own fault but I hope someone out there can help me...
I successfully rooted my .75 Xperia today. But all those custom ROMs got me selfish and I decided to go ahead and patch a custom ROM of eXperience v2.3.. now I did make a backup prior but I foolishly deleted my backed up ROM... Now I messed up while installing ExP and no matter how many times I install it I get a "System UI doesnt work" messsage upon reboot every 2 mins.. and my status bar keeps crashing..
If anyone with Xperia P could upload their backed up .75 ROM.. I'd deeply appreciate it.. or show me a place where I can take my phone back to default "stock and factory condition" because at this point that's all I want..
I'm very freaked out right now and would appreciate some help seriously..
EDIT: Also a default CWM... since that's what i mainly installed and has messed up my system UI.. Help please.
Someone please help... my phone UI keeps crashing...

[MOD][All xperia]Wipe 4 ROM[Save your 30 seconds]

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
I was recently flashing new roms and it was too tiring sometimes to flash 5 times...
wipe data
format system,data, cache....etc..etc
so i decided to make a single flash wipe all zip
:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
This zip features deletion of following folders and their data
/data
/system
/cache
Dalvik is inside /data so not included it
As my ROM is stable now...test this zip yourself....well there's nothing harmful..i checked script twice

In order they to be sure and to make noobs double-do the wiping progress for their security... Or most of the developers have passed that useless instructions to others over time when CWM recovery was on it's early stages and the script was amend and not edify... Good old times... And they never had time to think (yes, no time to think I repeat) of that. Even I when I wipe cache after factory reset, even though I see that CWM says cache wiped, I do wipe again individually and I still wonder why!
There was once something on 9gag.com about this habit. It said : DOES FACTORY RESET, WIPES EVERYTHING AGAIN JUST IN CASE.

just to make sure everything wiped clean, and anyone new to this kind of "flashing" things and don't know how things work didn't do it wrong.
and you know, we are all kind of have that "paranoid" feel.
like "Factory Reset and then still wiping /cache".
and, what you mean by ROM Dev is really a Developer or just someone that theme, putting all tweaks in one ROM, and repack it?
you know what i mean.

:crying: sorry if anything spoken wrong..never had intention to hurt someone.!especially devs...they are the reason i am here!

it is pointless to compare my script to rom devs...we are just talking abut little wiping thing!
it is more pointless to call me anywhere near about to dev...my engineering field does'nt love computers or mobs..its just my interest i am here..
yeah about that arrogance thing.....its just in my nature and it shows up in words...i am controlling it... by time i will get better these things will get better too..for that sorry once again!!

Ok try this:
1) Using TWRP: Go to WIPE option, Select Advanced and check-mark all componets for wipe except "external storage" and wipe...
2) Flash the MIUI rom V5 (4.5.23)
3) Flash this patch
4) Tell me if work.
5) Press Thanks Button
Im repack the boot.img from MIUI v5 4.5.23 and make mods (This must work... )
