Yes, you can uninstall Rom manager. But don't delete the clockworkmod folder on your sd, it holds your backups and 4ext can restore those.
And if you flashed 4ext, cwm recovery is gone.
thanks wikd,
if i remove rom manager will the folder containing those backups remain?
just a thought im going to copy all backups to my pc.

It should stay, I've flashed a lot or roms and that essentially uninstalls it, but my folder stays.
thanks again wikd,
I copied all backups and roms to my pc,ive now removed rom manager and cwm backup folder is still there.
have checked with es file explorer all seems well !
and again 4ext (free) is great.
Now you have 4ext i advise you install the 4ext updater app
It allows you to update to the latest version through the app, it's great!
Get it here
http://www.4ext.net/get.php?apk
thanks 00mpollard,
ill try that.
00mpollard,
is that not what ive got installed already ie free option?
It's the free option yes
00mpollard,
can i update using this free app of 4ext??
Yeah you can
thanks 00mpollard,
could you explain how to update 4ext?

Enter CWM, select "Backup and restore", then "Backup". The backup will be saved on the SD, in \clockworkmod\backup\bla_bla_bla.
Whenever you want your ROM back, just enter CWM and select "Backup and restore", then "Restore. Select "bla_bla_bla" and you'll have your ROM.
EDIT
Oh, so you want to port your ROM to a new phone! Well, you didn't say that
I think you can, as long as it's the same model... but wait for someone else to confirm that

Never happened to me. But the procedure is just the right one, so you'll have to wait for someone else's help.
Hm. You could make a nandroid, then extract that nandroid with yaffey (search xda).
Then you could port it and pack it.

He says he can't even create a nandroid. Never heard of such an error, though.

Is not an "error", just skips the backup of sd-ext partition because you dont have one.

This is the process. Just share the bla_bla_bla folder. If it fails, you can't.

i have backed up my rom but it is too big!! [580mb] even if i upload then no one gone download it for sure!!
Well... you know, this is how it works.
Anyway, if you want, you can use 7zip or winrar to compress it and also split it in multiple files.

Yes, new rom replace all things
well since you have already done factory reset (and lost all your data) no point in whats written below
But if it happens next time and you want to preserve data, please mention if you are running an odexed/deodexed rom. Someone nice here can upload the file(s) you need and you can push them to your phone using adb

Yes stock rom will always be odexed. to check you can go to app or framework folder in system/ and see if you have corresponding odex files for apk or jars.
Edit: Also a suggestion. Don't flash mods that do not specefically say that they are for odexed roms (if you are on stock). For brightness control you can use lux brightness free from market. it gives you control on how much brightness you need
One guy from local forum gave me a restore zip file. Any ideas how can i push it on phone, if it loads only in cwm and download mode?

hey guys i am new to this forum
i recently rooted my android device with clockwork mod 5.0.2.8 installed
i flashed a new rom and before flashing i made a backup of the existing rom
the rom was ok and so i renamed the backup as 'stock'
i decided to go back to the original rom and thought of restoring it but it says "md5 sums not found"
so anybody have any kind of help
i am using samsung galaxxy ace plus gt-s7500
you need to rename it to what the backup was called when you created the nandroid
Just make sure that your backup is in root directory of your sd card..
Just like this
Sdcard>clockworkmod>backup>2012-09-06.11.31.38>files
If it is not like that make like that
Press thanks if i helped you

I've done this before on my motorola xoom, had to just delete the backup, kinda sucks. Since though I do recall some recoveries there is an option to not check md5 sums on restoration of the backup so that is what you want to try do. I have a feeling CWM doesn't have this feature but you can check. TWRP I think does so check if there is that recovery for your device. But then there may be compatibility issues since you made the backup with CWM. Worth a try though. Good luck
Thanks for the help

Yeah, same with when this happened to me.
You could, if feeling brave, theoretically this should work but I've never tried it. But the backups in your /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup folder are .img files you could extract them to your computer and use fastboot to flash them onto your device
will definitely try
