Cant update through Kies - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
well, i have googled the problem and searched this forum for a solution and i came accross many i just want to know what is the updated solution for "Your Device does not support software updating via kies".
I have just installed "I9300XXBLG8". Everything is stock.
actually i heared that i better use "Check fus downloader " in order to check for an update, and that what did, but maybe there are small bug fixes which can be solved by updating though Kies.
So, is there a solution to this problem?
thanks guys

Well the first step is
the question is their a firmware update for your phone or are you just trying to update to something that is not on the server as LG8 is a very recent firmware .
second step as always can be that you no longer have the correct codes presented to Kies as you have flashed firmware .
CHECKFUS = a KIES download

im looking for any update, any new update which improves the device or fixes problems.
What do you mean by "correct codes"?

Kies is not something that gives you any update any time .
It supply's the updates your phone vendor has uploaded no more and no less.
Codes you are messing between KIES and stock via Odin make your mind up one route only .

This is firmware versions and you could normally expect that the newest (highest number) always is the one to bet your money on ^^
So XWKE7 is the latest firmware upgrade?
How come kies shows I'm up to date with firmware XWKE2?

There is nothing wrong with your new baby...
What you experience now can be compared to the feeling you could have if you suddenly thought there was something wrong with your new chick and everybody else had an upgraded and better one..
Relax and chill down.. Your new girl is just fine ^^
What you could do is to ask yourself if you want to tickle her under the “hood” or wait for the official fix every new girl will get later anyway..
If you would like to be hero or not is up to you…

Hello, I have a 2 doubts: my samsung galaxy s2 is factory unlocked. My first question is: how to see the current firmware into my phone? - Where I can find the latest firmware (XWKE7 - to update via Odin) ?
The second question is: To overclock my samsung galaxy s2(factory unlocked) is necessary and required to root your phone??.
Thanks, regards
so, shall i take it that these are not official updates ?? If so, i am relaxed. But forgive me for the question but i am only a blond girl ).. : i am reading that there are many updates after my version.. and why i am told on kies that 'this device will not get the update.. and at the same time they say that there ARE new updates.. And one more question : when i get ( if I) my update, will it be to the next version .. or it will be to the last one? because my version is very old ... ( xwdc) Thank you for the answer in advance ))))

The answers to your questions takes about 10 seconds if you use the "search" function, something that I politely recommend to you as a new poster - it will make everything easier for you. Why not start now?

These ARE official updates.
This all depends on your carrier. If you are on O2, for example, you will not yet see KE7 in KIES as it hasn't cleared with O2 yet (probably).
What you can do, and the instructions are in the 'Development' section of the forum, is remove the O2 branding from your phone. Your phone is then just 'generic' i.e. it hasn't been modified by O2. This means you get the updates as soon as Samsung release them!

Update path one official via Kies requires the phone provider to update the firmware from Samsung and upload to Kies server . Kies update is to latest version phone provider has uploaded .
Path two are Samsung stock roms that we flash ourselves via Odin .
As this may debrand your phone it may and i repeat may effect the warranty from the seller but not Samsungs warranty .Two the upgrade path via Kies may be closed and updates are now stock roms via Odin .

thank you for the answer. I bought my phone from Amazon . uk. , unlocked.. how could i know who is the phone provider???

Its probably generic then you try Kies for an update .No update on very old firmware i would try Samsung Service centre .

:-(( what if my phone is 'generic'? does it mean that i will never get any update ??.. And i really tried Kies.. but i was told that there is no update for my device... Please tell me what does ' generic' mean?.. sorry to be a nuisance .. but i am new at these ...and want to learn ... Unfortunately there is no samsung service in our country .. Anyway, thank you for your answers ))

I had a different problem with updating through KIES, but all the same, Odin flashing is the best way to go.
Have you all got the latest version of Kies? I believe there was a sizeable update recently. I can't really advise more than that as I get updates from here and use Odin.

Phone repaired, did they root my phone?

I posted this question in another thread, though I never got a direct answer and didn't want to hijack the thread either.
A while back I had my phone repaired. I've never attempted to update my phone in all this time. I recently installed Kies and saw the following information:
PDA:KE1 / PHONE:KE4 / CSC:KD1 (XEU)
It says "This version of the device cannot be updated".
When I tried the "software update" via the phone, which then said a new firmware would have to be installed and if I'd like to download. I selected Yes and then the phone reboots. When it came back on it said that the update had failed and to try connect and do it through KIES. So I think there's an update available yet I can't do anything about it?
My phone details are:
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100XXKE4
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE1-CL181974
[email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
Does the information from the Kernal Version indicate that they rooted my phone when they repaired it? If so, will there be a way of changing it back?
Thanks.
Does hboot say s-off or s-on?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
no they will not root your phone as you are using kies to get official updates.
use odin and flash either generic roms which you will have to root yourself.
custom roms usually are rooted by the developer.

NO all its says is [email protected] which is part of the signature and nothing to do with rooting a phone ..
If Kies says no update for your phone then its usually correct .Phone provider has not updated firmware .

I never used Kies until now and the phone wasn't updated before sending it back to be repaired. I don't really have the intention of rooting the phone myself. Was just wondering why I can't update the firmware.

Kies says there's no update, however I'm asked to use Kies after a failed attempt to use the software update function of the phone. It says that there's a new firmware version available. I downloaded it and it asks to reboot my phone. When it starts up again it says the update has failed and to use Kies. I don't understand why it would say there's a new firmware available and yet I can't update it?

If the phone isn't rooted by them, why won't the software update allow me to update the new firmware that it says is available? It fails and asks me to do it through Kies where it says that my version of the phone cannot be updated?

Dude... You keep asking the same question. Although I cannot say why your phone is telling you that you have an update available and it is failing and saying to use KIES, I can reiterate what JJE mentioned and that is that it sounds like your carrier has NOT released an actual update for your device.
I recommend that you call your cell phone carrier and ask them if and when an update WILL be available and start from there. If they say that there IS an upadte available then you can ask your question again but until you know for sure you are just going around in circles.
the csc you have does cuurently support updates has they have not been released for that region.
try changing the csc to a country that has updates.

Then you use ODIN to update simple as that . You no longer have the correct codes for KIES server to match to an update .

Depends on what region your phone belongs to download and flash the latest ROM released for your region and you are good to go
You can get the boxed ROM and the latest through this website
http://fus.nanzen.se/
Use intratech's thread for flashing the stock boxed or latest ROM

I want to flash stock rom and do a OTA update

Hi guys...
I had a rooted phone (with CF root) and I followed this guide: http://www.totallydubbed.net/2012/06/20/how-un-root-flash-stock-rom-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-gt-i9300/
Now I have a unrooted phone with stock firmware. I'd really like to do a OTA update on the phone, but for some reason, it tells me that there's no available updates.
I have build IMM76D.I9300XXALE8, which is from may, so there should be some updates in the cloud.
I have wiped and cleared from CWM and did a factory reset, but no update...
What am I doing wrong?
Regards,
Hjalte
