I think I know what your problem is as I just encountered the problem myself. Go to the root directory of where you store all your media and look for something that says .nomedia Move or delete it out of the directory. All my media showed up again after moving it.

It's not a solution per-se, but use quickpic.
The gallery app is rather terrible in pre HC roms.
That's a very common issue with gallery on all pre HC roms
Did you try to format SD card?
maybe SD card fault.
or you can use Quickpic to view the gallery. into setting to choose image's local :good:
I also had the same problem, after checking the forums i found two options, one is to delete the .nomedia file in the SDcard and also deleting the .tumbnails folder from the DCIM folder. Then the .tumbnail folder is recreated and the pics show up in the gallery.
Thanks guys after deleting the nomedia files everything is fine now.but why its created? I mean nyway to stop the creatipn of this files?

They shouldnt be automatically created normally, could be a bug in one of your apps that did it.
It's usually a good idea to have .nomedia's in folders that shouldnt be scanned as it speeds up scans (by skipping the folder), but obviously you dont want it in folders that have stuff you want to be listed.
Kakagi what a coincidence i also faced the same problem 2day only......thanks to every1 for helping us out.....i wil try deleting dat file....

Rom Manager application adds this file .nomedia after awhile. I found this info in net. It is bug of this app.

Camera keeps force closing? Any ideas on how to fix this issue?
x10i 2.3.3 rooted.
Anyone?
x10i 2.3.3 rooted.
what i done earlier was remove everything from the DCIM folder to my computer and renamed them so i can have more space so the 100ANDRO folder was empty and I believe that caused the camera to force close.. So I put a one picture back with a renamed file name and the camera works no force closing and then I removed the picture from the folder and it forced closed again? No media perhaps? Maybe the camera is looking in the camera folder for files and when it does not detect anything it crashes because with only 1 picture on the folder it works properly. Is this normal?
The x10 needs that folder to function. If you want the camera, leave the folder there. That is normal behavior for what happened when you moved the folder away from the camera.

So tell me this, when you take a picture with the camera, does the picture get saved and can you find the saved photo?
Sent from my ATRIX 4G XDA Premium App
Yes.. but if I take the saved pic say to save it on my pc and leave the folder empty, then it force closes.

You probably have to flash back stock firmware to fix the issue. There are plenty of threads on that. Or just take a weird pic and leave that in the picture folder to keep the camera stable.

I just flashed Westfire ROM 3.0 and the media files on my ext-sd are not being detected.
\sdcard\ext_sd\Music\song.m4a etc.
Or
\sdcard\ext_sd\DCIM\100MEDIA\ etc.
I can see everything in Root Explorer but neither Music, Google Music, or Gallery see the appropriate files.
Any clues for me?

Try this

Another option you might try is to use ES File Explorer or a similar program. Go to the folders where your pictures and the music are, and create into this folder a new one. Don't put any files in this folder! Just rename the created folder in .nomedia and reboot with fastbootmode ( in the energy settings) disabled.
I had similar problems once with an Archos 70 Internettablet, and this was the solution that worked for me.....

There's some mysterious bug regarding how the media scanner is triggered in some of the ROMs, I think... if you keep telling media scanner to run again and again, eventually it twigs that there's music.
i've never had this problem...until i read this thread...and then a day later it happened to me too
WHAT ARE THE CHANCES??
Pictures but no music - Evo View
I have an Evo View. I have about 3GB of MP3s on my sdcard. I've been unable to update my music library. I've tried creating a .nomedia folder in the folder where my music files are. I rebooted with fastboot disabled. But my library is still empty. If anyone has any other ideas, please share.

I believe the .nomedia file/folder tells android to exclude the folder from media players. So I'd delete this.
Then I'd unmount the sd card, and mount it again.
Go to file explorer, find your media and click a song to play. It should play fine.
On the mount it should recognize your media in the default music player. I just tried it and worked on my gingerbread rom. You might have to do a restart to get it recognized. But on HC or GB, this worked for me.
There's an app called rescan media on the market that you can run instead of restarting. Just run it after you mount the sd card.
I use poweramp to play my music and it finds my sdcard fine. It has different equalizers setup and sounds great. Plus you can choose where you media files are located. This makes it easy to setup your music files on the external sd card. But that costs a few bucks.

Maybe.
The problem is an incorrect link in the filesystem. Instead of link to a file, it link to another link.
The problematic file is sqlite3 in directory /system/xbin. You must find somewhere this file and replace the link.
Hi there. I'm not sure how it happened but I woke up this morning, went into my phone gallery to find 4 folders full of images had vanished from my sd card and I have no idea how. is there any way I could maybe get them back?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Do you find them on sdcard through file manager?
Try the app named undelete from market
they're not on the sd card either.
I tried undelete and actually found some, if not all in the list but may have ****ed that up, cos when I restored them, they weren't in the gallery because the folders they were originally in were deleted. I didn't even know to specify a folder.. so are they lost for good now?

Wait for a while then check again or try rebooting your phone. Btw, what rom are you using?
Moving your songs to a folder named 'music' might work too
Delete the double post too

I tried gtr, oxygen, nightly and all except ics rom but problem is there with me present I'm using perfect peso 2.3.
Songs are in music folder only
Ok!, try to browse using root explorer, and show hidden files, and find ".nomedia" file to the folder where the music files are located and delete it. Now go to dev tools and selext media scanner.. that should do the trick..

Hey guys, I'm having issues with the gallery in epinter's CM10 rom. I've done some searching and it seems like other people's is working but everytime i open it up it shows no pictures. I've cleared its settings and cache but it still shows nothing. The only reason this bothers me is because it appears that Google+ won't instant upload pictures unless they show up in there. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm using the 8-11 release but it gave me the same issues in the release before that. Also, I'm using internal storage with no sd card if that matters.

bump
Just download quickpic.
I've been using quickpic for several months now, but Google+ uses the gallery app (from what i can tell) to share pictures and detect new pictures for instant upload.

I'm having same issue. Also no music. Tried moving files to external and back, format both cards. Nothing I've tried has worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
MB860 Peace
I have this occasionally, but don't use G+ so it doesn't really bother me as quickpic always works. But to help with the question, I thought I read that when the Media Service is running, things like the Gallery, Maps, and a few other google apps (that use the service) might act like they're hanging, but it's because one of them is using the service. You could try force closing it, or let it finish on its own. Also, try clearing the cache on the media service/gallery/camera/maps. On occasion when the camera stops working on me if I kill the service it sometimes then starts working. This might not be the best option, but something to try.
im having the same problem... apollo dont recognize any music someone can help?
Well my camera has always been laggy on all 4.0+ roms even though some people say it works for them. Anyways, I tried clearing the data and reseting maps/gallery/camera but it still doesn't work. I'm wondering if the media service is actually just borked and I've been misinterpreting what other people have said.

Look for and delete a file named .nomedia from the base of which ever card you have these images or music on. I heard that this was something a ROM Manager update did.

I had the same issues with my pics and music. Looks like you've chosen reboot option from power off menu. For some reason after reboot pics and audio can't be recognized. Try to power off your atrix and trurn it on after few sec, this worked for me, hope will help you too.
Didn't work. Thanks anyway

Well I kinda figured out what's going on with the Gallery. It appears that a media scan won't show media already existing on the device. However, if you take a picture it will show the new pic in the gallery correctly. I've also verified that I have no .nomedia files.
I'm guessing that when a photo is taken it explicitly adds an entry to the media table, but there is a problem when a full scan is triggered which makes the gallery blank.
