Hello everyone.
I would like to see if anyone may be experiencing the same issue and if anyone may have found a cure.
I am experiencing data drops on all roms. After a fresh install the rom works perfectly. Sometimes for a day sometimes for several days I will experience no problems. After a time I will no longer have any data connection at all, the 3G or H symbol is there but no activity. I have rebooted, reflashed modems, turned phone off in airplane modes, and toggled data. Sometimes this works but for the most part it is only temporary. I have experienced this problem on Trigger, Bionix, flagship, loki, and now stock jfd. I dont know what else to do. Is there a way I could have messed up the hardware of the phone? Any suggestions?
(I experience this in many different areas, as to rule out just poor reception, I will often have full signal with no data.)
Thanks,
I did have this on Axura and TW Roms.
I moved to Trigger and did a clean install, no issues at all with data drops since.
You can toggle airplane mode on/off.
You can toggle airplane mode on/off.[/QUOTE]
Trigger did last the longest before data dropped, about 3 days. I try toggling airplane on and off several times. When my data drops its off for hours I have even waited a whole day then I usually end op relashing back to stock and starting over. I stayed at JFD for 1 day and data dropped so im confused.
thanks for response!!
If it were me, this is unacceptable.
I would verify no issues with T-Mo (data cap/bill issue)
Assuming that is fine, I would make a copy of both internal/external to my pc, after a nandroid and Titanium backup was made.
I would then format both internal/external memory cards.
I would then power off and get use ODIN to JFD.... root.... cwr... flash your fav rom (maybe trigger final since you said you had the best luck with it).
I really doubt you would have trouble after doing this.
Ill give this a try tonight when i have access to odin. Thnaks for all your help.
Did you ever overclock the phone ? the heat potential of overclocking can have some bad effects on the circuitry. Either way I would get to Stock and do a warranty replacement on it.

I have overclocked the phone but never really thought about that as a potential problem. The problem is intermittent; it works fine after a flash but then drops off as i use the device. Would this cause the same issues??
Once again Data has dropped from Trigger 2.7 edt. I dont get it. There has to be some kind of hardware issue. Ive had full data from my last post 2 days ago.
I am not at data cap limit, and I have paid my bill. Data was just working 2 min ago, phone started to lag, rebooted now no data. I have flashed KA6 and KB1 modems twice each, rebooted in flight mode, toggled data 10 + times.
Anyone with any other suggestions before I turn this bad boi in??
thanks,
This is real weird. As of last week sometime, my phone will stop all data connections or wifi connections after about 6 hours post reboot. The only way for it to work again is to reboot. I'm assuming it's an app of some sort causing this because I did a fresh install and the problem is persisting. I have uninstalled all new apps I've installed over the past week as well. Anyone have anything similar or possible solutions? Running CM7 N214 & DCs 8.9.1.

I was actually seeing this as well, but not consistently enough to report it. Was happening on all the nightlies I'd been on after n13x (which was one in the 15x range, and a couple 20x ones). When it did happen for me, it was usually about the same time of day, so I think it might have been on a 24 hour cycle (I don't normally power my device off, so it was probably hitting at 24 hours after the reboot to fix the last one). The strangest part was that the connection icon color would continue to show a google connection, and if I was on 3g the up/download arrows would light as I would expect. Just no data traffic. Was running DC8.9.1 on all of the above nightlies.
this is not so much of a wifi issue but i did loose my data connection twice in the past month. the first time i was outside and i wanted to check my email but i couldn't. i was abel to send and receive texts messages and was abel to make and receive phone calls but no data was available and no internet. i try re booting the phone but still no data. about two hours later i check to see if i have internet, and it was working all by it self. not sure if this was my phone or a AT$T network thing. the second time i was leaving from my home wifi to my AT$T 3g network but the data connection was unavailable, no internet. but this time a reboot fixed it. i have had my aria for about a year now and this has never happen before. this may vary easily be a network, cell tower thing and nothing is wrong with my phone.

That definitely sounds like a network issue because it's not repetitive or consistent.

Hi,
I've been having the wifi/data drop issue since 2.3.7. I was hoping nightly 242 would solve it. No mas. Lost data connection after ten hours. Flash 208 and all data/wifi issues disappear.
Stock kernel. DC's kernel doesn't seem to affect the issue for better or worse.
Will keep lurking over at the developers forum...
John
I use the stock kernel and I think this problem is affecting my Aria too. Wifi usually doesn't die until about 2 or 3 days.
Flashed 243 and DC's 8.9.2a kernel yesterday. No data loss all day and was still connected this morning when I woke the phone up. Just flashed 244 and 8.9.2a. We'll see how long connection lasts.
John
I had to reboot my phone running stock 242 today. Wifi showed connected but the Market took almost 60 secs to open. Opening "my apps" didn't work. Reboot cured all.
The problem has been narrowed down to drowningchild's kernel. If you are using this kernel, just reflash your nightly to revert back to the stock kernel and all will be fixed. To follow this problem since it is not fixed yet, refer to this kernel's thread in the development section.

For me, the problem started with 2.3.7 and continued whether I ran DC's kernels or not. Flashing nightly 208 eliminated the problem, but of course, who wants to go backwards?

Did you do a full wipe when going Fromm 2.3.5 to 2.3.7? I haven't heard of anyone with stock kernel issues.

I've been having this problem for a few weeks now. I thought it was just me. I was driving using google maps and had to pull over and reboot since my data decided to crap out at the worst possible time.

I'm pretty sure some over in the "Nightly builds starting!" thread mentioned drops with the stock kernel.
No, I didn't do a full wipe. So far, I haven't noticed any drops since 244 with DC's 8.9.2a kernel. Fingers crossed.

Oh, ok. I just didn't recall any, but I could be wrong. I think for best results, you need to full wipe when going from 2.3.5 to 2.3.7. Also, I have heard that 8.9.2a is still dropping for some with the recent nightlies. I have had no problem with the stock kernel, as I did a wipe when going to 2.3.7.
I was the one having probs with the stock kernel, but a format and flash of 242 fixed it. Been running fairly good since then.
I did a full wipe and flash of N245 + DC 8.9.2a tonight. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. So far, GPS locks in less than 5 seconds.
FWIW, I also did not flash the very latest gapps, the 08282011 version. Does that matter?
John
OK, the big drop came about fifteen hours after wipe/flash w/8.92a. Airplane mode toggle did not bring connection back. Flashed N245 again. This time I'll try the stock kernel and see how it goes.

The gapps version won't matter with regards to a data drop. I am running the 6/13 gapps.

Whenever my phone goes to sleep, and I try and turn on the screen again, it simply reboots. This occurs in airplane mode with nothing enabled as well
Unlocked, CM7. I flashed different roms and they all had this, I don't think it happened on stock.
Any fixes? All the threads I've seen have no real info
Seems like your system files might be corrupted. Wipe system partition from fastboot or cwm then reflash your rom. Any time I had weird stuff happen on a rom, I wipe the system then it goes away. Hope this helps you get rid of this issue. Good luck!

Doesn't work, just wiped system, cache and dalvik, then flashed rom and sod's still happen.
I have also tried flashing several radios, all with sod's. Any suggestions?
wakelock
I had this problem on stock and every rom I tried (this was actually the reason I unlocked) I installed wakelock app from the market. I set it on partial wakelock. I think it keeps phone from going into deep sleep. It worked for me. I think it may make battery life a bit worse but having to pull battery sucks. Since I also have the issue on stock I am prob sending it in on warranty

So you've had SODs since you got the phone? Wakelock seems to work, but kills the battery.
For anyone who does NOT have SODs what modem/radio are you using?
Yes had them since I got the phone. Wakelok fixed it for me. Battery life is not horrible. It still last me like 14 hrs moderate use. I have tried radios and everything else I could thing of. Think mine is hardware related. That is why I am sending it in. I was surprised to find out it was still under warranty
I've just noticed that when mine shuts down, it gives a green notification first, then when I try turning the screen it, it reboots.
Unfortunately, my phone is out of warranty, I bought it used
SODs still happen in airplane mode.
Try wakelock and post if that fixes it.
Call Motorola directly. I bought two used. Had the same problem. They replaced them both with new units.

Just don't say anything about buying it used.
Good luck.
As posted above, wake lock works but uses battery.
I live in Canada and am out of warranty, would I still be able to call?
It's worth a try. You have nothing to lose.

I had the same problems.. but mine happens when phone gets above 35°C.. So I activate wakelock at this time until i see temp is lower than that.. after that I disable wake lock.. it's a pain in the ass.. but it is better than pull the battery out once every 15 min..

Is there something specific about 35C, and are you sure it is exactly that?
I have installed 2.3.6 Bell and I still get reboots, anyone have a link to stock 2.2.1 Bell SBF that I can try?
sometime 35 sometime 36.. but above that temp.. sod kills me.. under that temp phone runs smooth..
I'm a system enginner but I haven't program in years.. I'm thinking seriously in create just a services to read temp and launch a wake lock when temp reache some level..
I'm pretty sure I will help lot of people but aint sure when i can start doing some work

my phone would not actually reboot but in went into SOD (sleep of death) so every time this has happened to me i installed a new kernel or reinstalled the one i had.........always rectified the issue.
Same issue
I had the same problem when I flashed CM9 and then when I downgraded back down to CM7, I tweaked the kernels I used and changed my UV settings and it hasn't happened since. Perhaps flash a different kernel and see if that works?

Tried several of them, this seems to happen on stock 2.3.6 as well.
I flashed a stock sbf to return to stock. Still had the sleep of death. Reboots after and during phone calls, and touch screen problems. I believe it is hardware related.
Hi guys,
Not sure what could be the issue. I'm quite a veteran when it comes to troubleshooting these phones and flashing, etc. I've been a power user since the S1 and S2.
I flashed CM9 a few weeks ago, one of the stables and it was all running fine. One day I picked up the phone after charging overnight and it was really hot, the battery drained in about an hour or so, the whole time it was extremely hot.
I flashed a few other CM roms, which didn't fix much, tried full wipes and everything.
I've now gone back to an original samsung rom which I flashed via odin. This seems to have fixed the overheating issue, however, my battery barely lasts more than 3 hours on full charge and this is with absolutely minimal use (few phone calls).
WiFI is also extremely unstable. It takes a while to connect to any network, and when it does, it'll drop after a few minutes. I've tried different networks.
Scanning for WIFI networks works fine, so does this rule out a faulty WIFI chip?
I'm thinking the battery drain may be related to the WIFI card.
I've also tried a new battery.
Any suggestions, or is the phone fried?
A number of posts saying the same .

No, to get up your hopes, the phone isn't dead, yet.
Try flahsing a ROM, other than CM. I have the same problem, with AOSP, that's why I stick to sammy based ROMs, AOSP is made for the device, but Google only tunes it up to their standards, when it has something to do with their Nexus devices.
I'd say: Try a different ROM, don't overclock it. If that doesn't work, flash stock and then try it. One of the two should work, though!
I've gone back to a stock Samsung 4.0.1 rom. Flahed using odin, yet still the same issue with battery life and WIFI.
I've heard somewhere that flashing CM9 can cause WIFI issues, and there's a specific flash procedure to get it working normal again?

My bad, I mean whichever came with the phone.
How often do you reboot your phone? I used to switch it of every night, when I was going to sleep.
The last few days I tested what happens, when I do not switch of the phone, but let it run as long as possible. Of course with charging the battery.
What I experienced with stock ICS 4.0.4 (XWLQ2) is, that the modem seems to become kind of unstable. Wifi needed one restart with switching to flight mode, but then was stable until the end. But the 2G and 3G once hang up with no signal showing in the display. Flight mode fixed that. And today the phone was stuck at 2G eventhough there was 3G available (do not doubt that! ^^). So, I tried flight mode again, but this time it didn't fix it. So I decided to restart the phone after 77 hours and 31 minutes.
Apps and the system itself was stable and smooth until the reboot.
What is your experience with long uptimes and erros summing up? Preferrably with stock ROM.
Right now 250hours uptime. On latest stock rom. Its really stable. Before I often had to restart almost daily.
