Hey guys,i tried just now the latest jellybean leak...
But coming from cm9 NOT from cm10 i noticed that inside some apps it was way laggy!
But in the launcher or in settings jellybean is smooth like...butter! xD
Eg in es file manager there is EXTREME lag in jellybean, like my phone is a damned huawei sub-100-euro phone or something....that sucks, big time...
I thought the jellybean update would have fixed the laggyness....
But in cm9 the same exact app is fast as hell!
Same goes for sammy ics vs aosp ics roms..
Something is just not right there...
Also the s2 sammy roms runs just as fast/smooth either oficiall based or aosp based, something which in our case is not true because aosp roms runs better on s3 than sammy ones...
Someone care to give an explaination?i've been busting my head right from the start and i just don't get it....
EDIT:If you mess around with latest leak's dev setting it can get pleasingly smooth...
ok not as smooth as cm10 but ok we'll wait...
now the thread is about cm9 vs sammy based mainly and the s2 part...

Hello all!
First: sorry for my not quite good english.
Second: I have some type of problem. Actually I have on my SGS Vibrant ROM: Simply Honey Revolution 5.0 based on 2.3.4 android version. Now I'm thinking about uprage to some of ICS versions, like: ICS Passion v12 or Team ICSSGS RC4.1. I don't know what rom is better for me.
In 2.3.4 rom I have almost everything working, except GPS and front camera. Battery life is very good for me. I don't want new issues.
So, someone can help me to decide what I should do? Make upgrade to ICS (and what rom is better for me?) or stay at Simply Honey rom?
Thanks for advice!
Regards.
I had froyo and tried CM7. Didnt like much and went straight to ICS Passion. No regret at all, smoother, faster. It has the mute/unmute issue and you also need to reboot in order that GPS works. But still think that its better than GB 2.3.4 ROM. Didnt try ICSSGS, just Doc's (didnt like that much) and Passion so if you do try ICSSGS, give your thought.
the devs for ICSSGS dont actually have the vibrant. its a port from the i9000 and built off aosp. ics passion is built for the vibrant off cm9 framework. imho, ics passion or ecstasy are the best.
Ahh I see. So, for me better option is make upgrade to ICS. So I will try it. I hope that I won't be disappointed.
Thanks!

ICS beats any previous Android version by a mile.
The only thing that MIGHT suffer is your gaming performance. I've found that certain games my phone should play don't play as smoothly as intended (I'm talking about graphics intensive games here, like MC3, GTA 3, 9MM). The ROM is still in BETA and there are still some things to work out, but it's a very smooth experience overall.

Yes , Wrong.
Only reason not to go ICS is if you want the CM7 extras like permissions management. Passion or, if you want straight AOSP source, ICSSGS. Good luck.
These ice cream sandwich roms are pretty impressive and run very smooth when installed properly... The passion rom is no longer in beta and is pretty smooth for me.. Everything works except the gps after deep sleep.. Even the mute/unmute issue has been fixed!

So i bought one on Thursday and it arrived today. I just noticed that a leaked version of ICS was released just now, do you guys think I should use that? or cm9? or another ROM? Really not liking the touchwiz

Currently, this is the bestestest ICS ROM out right now for the "one".
http://tinyurl.com/2g9mqh
If you just got it today I would suggest you start reading guides and FAQs. When you think you have it, read it all again. Its similar to the Captivate, but different enough you can do some damage if you aren't paying attention.
That said, the leak just dropped is not ready immediately for use. There is no "best" ROM, try many of them. There are several ICS ROMs, both AOSP and TW based. They are in the dev sections.

Thanks guys, anything in special i should watch out for? that maybe the captivate didnt have?
Right now the ICS leak contains bootloaders and a stock Samsung kernel - stock Samsung ICS kernels SUCK, even the I9100 release ones.
ICS will be more polished in a few days. Since we have had kernel source for only a week - things aren't quite polished yet.

Just curious, why do stock Samsung ICS kernels suck? And how do you know that already? I was under the impression that we never had stock ICS i777 kernels until we got the leak today, so have you already looked at/tested them and compared them to your own? Just want to know the thought process
EDIT: You edited your post. I didn't know we had the stock kernel already. Still, what about it makes it so bad?
Some think else look into from that have Kay setting installed it is AMAZING what he did with the sgs2 that said have fun and do sum looking in i9100 section most of there roms are cross flashable with hell raiser...

It's brand new and shiney. Might be best to give it a workout for a week or so to make sure everything is functional and stays functional. Not like it happens alot but there are lemons out there. No sensce causing yourself the xtra grief of wondering if you killed the phone or it already had a fatal flaw.

fuel_alerted wakelock (fixed in source-built custom kernels - we fixed it 6 months ago for Gingerbread, we had to fix it again for ICS)
Instabilities if you use SetCPU (still not fixed, but fundamentally can't be fixed for a binary kernel)
Let me do my noob question here then.
My GS2 has 2 months old. On this time i've tested a few ROMs and Kernels.
I just dont know how to erase all the phone data. I just came out from a bootloop erasing the data and everything else but the folders are still there.
I did a little search but didnt find any info... also nothing on FAQs.
Sorry to use your post man
I'm a noob but i did my research. Keep on GB for a week or 2.
I do use ICScrew Rom. Work fine. Came with a good kernel and you can also flash the entropy one.
There are several others rom that work fine just choose one to get more experienced.

I have ran probably about 6 different ROMs and the last 2 that I have ran, I swear by - took me about 3 months to finally understand the terminology, but an odexed based rom is butter smooth and runs good if the author put some time and effort into it.
My suggestion is ShiShirRom found in the Dev section or if you prefer to help "beta" test his ICS rom which is based off of the leaked AT&T S2 Rom - then give that one a try. It runs really well and I have had no issues personally.
Hah! I just got mine yesterday, and I've been playing with it. I've never had a smart phone before this, but I do have a Asus Transformer so I have experience sticking on custom roms and ****ting all over it (of course, I'm really just going through the motions outlined by the pros in that xda forum..).
I just got my SIII a few days ago, and by the time I got it, I just was so excited by the JB ROMs dropping that I just dove in and started flashing them. My question is:
Are the JB ROM leaks at this point faster or slower in general compared to the latest more stable ICS ROMs?
I'm sorta kicking myself for not waiting and giving myself a base to compare the two, but I'm wondering how you all see their state at this point.
Do those of you who used 4.0.4 ICS ROMs like I9300XXBLH1 etc notice any UI speed changed from that to the JB Leaks, or is the whole thing just psychological at this point. We expect JB to be faster, so it seems that way, but is it really? Has Project Butter actually made its way into the leaks yet?
I'd appreciate any feedback from more seasoned SIII owners at this point.
Well i personally love the 4.0.4 roms for the Siyah kernel as it allows me to undervolt, overclock and tweak sounds. The second Gokhanmoral receives the necessary information for jellybean i am moving on though

I can appreciate that. My question is about the UI speed, really. Does JB have any real speed increase over stock ICS at this point, given that it's still probably lacking optimization, etc.
I'm debating flashing to ICS I9300XXBLH1 from my current JB leak version, which as I said in the OP, I really did too soon to compare it to the stock ICS experience.

The S3 is already a very fast and smooth device. I tried the JB LH4 and LH7 and as far as swiping through the home screen its as smooth as ICS ( honestly it can't get smoother than that), scrolling thought some apps and settings is smoother in some part but nothing major in my opinion. Best thing to do? Flash and judge yourself.

I'm addicted to flashing so far I'm in Jellybean solely for the Google Now experience. It shows bus schedules and traffic info without me even asking. I think other than that the performance increase is negligible. Butter or no butter, the S3 is already a beast. My opinion is if you not into the Google Now thing, then go flash a good ICS ROM, it won't gives you any FCs cause its the real deal not based on leak...
Last rom but one is a usable rom only a few apps dont work or may give FC .
It is faster than ICS but not by much .
LH7 that is LH8 just leaked .
But yes its not a finished product .
Would i at this late stage flash a custom JB rom nope i would see what the rest of the week brings first .
47 JB roms tested so far .

Well it appears that there are only nightly builds for the i9100, but I can't see any known problems.
This is my mum's phone, and she has been telling me it's really slow so I thought going from 4.0 stock to CM10.1 4.2 would really help that, with project butter and stuff.
She uses wi-fi tethering alot, and I've seen on alot of custom roms that that doesn't work, but as I said, I didn't see any known problems for the CM10.1 nightly build. I don't want to flash her phone with something that'll make her lose functionality.
Thanks guys

Install the samsung JB leak..I would not recommend CM since it is still under development. But there are no big issues i myself use it. But since its your mom's phone its better to keep it stock.
Also there isn't Project Butter in CM.
But did you flash with a full wipe? Quite strange your mom does notice it's very slow, because there are a lot of people (understatement) who are really satisfied with the performances of CM10.1.

Not your phone, not running stock & an 'average' user using it day to day sounds like asking for problems to me. And potentially a lot of you playing 'tech support'.
If it were me, I'd be leaving it stock.
Do a factory reset & a clean install of apps/etc if it's a bit sluggish (remember, you don't have first hand knowledge of this, just what she's told you & also remember she is an 'average' user, so it may be running just fine most of the time).
Why not Chameleon Rom?
I suggest to use this rom because it has the CM layout but its samsung base so no bugs

Hi Forum
Just curious for your opinions on what the fastest 4.1.1+ ROM is. Also another one I'm curious about is the most stable.
All opinions are welcome!
Thanks in advance!
Xda is a development site and doesn't want to be an opinion site. Your encouraged to try all the roms yourself and see what works best for you. No two devices are alike so what works best for you on your device won't necessarily work for others.

This is a forum.. a Q/A forum in fact.. opinions are welcome! I have the same question.. I've tried several roms and so far they all have been pretty stable yet all have been bigtime sluggish/laggy. All that I've tried were 4.4 roms. Are the 4.1/2 roms any better? If I use the overclocking at min 1000 max 1500 I get pretty decent performance but stock is just terrible. I'm gonna try a 4.1 rom now but if anyone has any daily drivers that are peppy and stable from 4.1 and up I'd appreciate opinions.. as the op would I'd assume.
Ok.. so I ended up giving a 4.1 rom a try.. Liquid-jb-v.20-rc7 to be exact and a HUGE difference in speed.. everything is peppy and smooth at stock speeds in fact not a huge difference from my LG G2 in cruising the system and the internet via Boat browser. I tested Cameras/GPS/Bluetooth everything is perfect working order.. and after a few hours of use no fc's or reboots. Battery life .. only time will tell but my battery is old and has always been terrible. Only other thing is terrible charging speed.. even with the fast charge option in the settings. If anyone has any experience with this let me know. So overall this rom i give :good::good:

In my humble opinion so far trying a bunch I've come down to Liquid smooth for 4.42 Kit Kat.
If that is where you want to go. That is the latest version only. With Polluti0n's wonderful patches.
Mine using "Uber". Fairly smooth fairly fast. Not to great on battery, but still "tweaking" away.
I've tried so many Roms and versions of those Roms I thought I would save you some frustration.
I've had a lot.
I moved my service to TMobile and am now using Flapjaxx's ROM with wifi calling and couldn't be happier. This is the stock ROM with all the S-Pen apps and wifi calling and is smooth as butter and fast with no tweaking needed. I actually like Samsung'g skin.
A very good and stable ROM is bigfau's blackstar ROM and if it had wifi calling, it'd be my daily driver.
A gave all the KK ROMS as spin and hats off to the devs working on giving it to us but they all require too many patches and some still get FCs, etc.
i'm in the same boat as you guys, looking for a stable rom for my sisters Gnote, tried cm10.1 and aokp non OC. CM keeps restarting, and aokp is pretty sluggish. i will give liquid JB a try, you guys think that i should maybe try an ICS rom mayeb it will be a bit faster?
I have been running Unofficial AOKP 4.4.2 Rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2609761. It is the most stable 4.4.2 rom I have used. Other roms always crash during youtube and video playback causing a full reboot. I like Unofficial CM 11. But the gallery crashes if there is an mp4 file in it. If you don't care for AOKP. AOCP is by far the best Jelly Bean ROM. (4.3).
Well for me i flashed the canadian rooted base version (its crazy how the att rom is overbloated ) with the phaze kernel and the multiwindow mod . That the best experience i ever had no random reboot like the aosp roms and no lag ( I use the seeder app that reduce most stock jb lags )
