Internal sdcard reading after JB - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I don't know if anyone else has had this problem and can't find it so here goes.
I went from a ICS custom rom to JB
After all the bugs I went back to ICS. But now the ICS roms won't read my internal sdcard. Example my gallery only reads my external sd card so Loadsa pics not there. I can see them in file manager but not apps, and if I download and save to internal it shows but not existing files. Please help. I've tried full wipe re flash roms, wipe app data nothing working. First real problem in years of flashing custom roms.
Please help me head hurts

Sorry about that.
Try this solution and let me know if it works:
- use a file manager/explorer to browse through your files on your internal SD.
- open your picture folders e.g. DCIM
- delete any .nomedia file present in those folders.
-Reboot

Nope no such files. Checked was showing hidden and root files too

ok
Follow this instruction below.
If you don't have access to pc, you can still use your file manager.
This is the final solution I can offer.
You will need your Pc.
Please don't miss any step.
1.
- connect your device to your Pc
- move/cut your media files and folders to a location on your Pc (double check these folders on your Pc to ensure .nomedia files are not present in the folder)
- reboot your device
- If you have ROM manager installed, please uninstall it with titanium and reboot your device.
- Create new folders for your media files using any file manager on your internal SD card. Don't copy anything to them yet.
- Take a picture with your phone, check if it's showing in your gallery.
- reboot your device
- Check again if the pic you took the other time is still showing in your gallery
- Download QUICKPIC from market as a reference gallery app.
- open quickpic and see if the pic you took the other time is also showing there.
If the pic you took is showing in the gallery app, then you can proceed to step 2.
2.
-connect your phone to your Pc
-copy back your media files (don't copy the folders) to the new folders you created on your internal SD card in step 1.
-reboot your device.
-open both gallery app and quickpic to confirm if all of them are showing now.
Good luck and goodnight

Thanks for your help. This method does seem to be working. Although it does seem to be an issues with the gallery app. I could only copy the media that I know of its location as I'm sure your aware it can end up all over with different apps. But after the install of Quickpic it had no problem finding all the media files. Lots more and the same ones as the gallery app. All the files gallery app use to find. Thanks for your help.
Would really like to solve the gallery app problem. I'm going to get another room and start fresh. Full factory wipe and cache partition. Is there any way of making sure there's no gallery data or anything in my titanium backup.
Cheers Robbo

Did you miss any steps?
This solution should solve the problem with your gallery app.
Try to locate your picture folders manually and follow the instructions again.
Why am I stressing this?
-the instructions in my previous post have solved other people's problems after installing jellybean or CM9.
-even if you do factory reset and move to another ROM, the problem may still persist (at least that's what others are saying)
-i know quick pic is working now but I'll still say, follow the instructions above and let me know what happens.
****Please answer this question***
After trying some of the steps above,
Is your gallery app now showing some of your pictures?
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII

I have followed the steps you gave me and it worked. All the folders I did it to now show up. But like I said there are pictures elsewhere also and they show up in Quickpic because it's scanning my sdcards properly. Gallery app isn't.
Thanks for your help ur method worked for the folders I moved and copied back. So the gallery app is clearly working for new files or folders but not for existing files or folders.
Thanks again Robbo

Oh! That looks pretty simple.
To solve the new problem:
-Open quickpic
-open the album/folder that you need to know the location.
-long click on any of the pictures in the folder/album, and check for the picture details. From the details you should be able to get the folder location if you have basic compute knowledge. Repeat the same thing for all the folders you are interested in.
-now that you have discovered the location of, it's time to apply my fix one more
All should be working perfectly now

Gallery not displaying photos in DCMI folder on external sd?

I just made a clean install from FoxHound 4.1 to FoxHound 1.5.3 with a factory reset.
Everything seams to work fine but I have a couple of problems.
One of them is that gallery not displaying photos in DCMI folder on external sd?
I can see all the photos when using a file explorer, but the gallery app refuses to display them, it only display new photos, even though they're placed in the same folder.
I am also having a problem getting playerpro to find the "MUSIC" folder on my external SD, when I want to select the music folder all it shows is a "/".
GoBackup was also unable to find it's backup folder on the external SD.
However apps like Power AMP finds the files on the external SD with no problem.
Thanks in advance.

okay the next resort is to delete data from mediastorage in application manager..reboot your phone and see if it works...
Install gallery refresh from Google play (free). It should force a media refresh.
I don't know if this app works for a corrupt cache. You could also try to remove the data of the media library

I reinstalled foxhound deleted cache and dalvik, installed extsd2internalsd v3 (didn't have it installed before) witch is included in the foxhound installer. Everything is still the same anyway, also extsd2internalsd v3 is NOT working.

corrupt media problem help?!

hello, recently every few day in my gallery, the phone decides to duplicate every picture and video but as a corrupt file, which is unusable.
any ideas why this is happening?
the only way to solve it so far is to keep unmounting and mounting the sd card to get them to disapear again.
thanks in advance

Sorry about that.
-Goto your picture folders using a file manager, enable hidden folders
-delete .thumbnails folder, everyone of them, even in sub-folders
-Goto Settings - Apps -All - Media storage, clear data.
-Reboot phone to recovery
-wipe cache
-reboot phone.
Note:
-always try to properly unmount/safely remove your phone, after connecting to pc, when necessary.
-You can also scan your external SD for errors in your Pc.

I don't have hidden folders with miniatures, but when I reboot the device, it keeps duplicating the files. If I clear the media storage app and reboot, gallery shows the right files, no duplicates. But if I reboot again and don't clear media storage, when the system starts I will have duplicate media files, so it's not a permanent fix. Is there another way that I could solve this?

Rooted, lost all pictures. HELP!

I rooted my phone yesterday with casual, twrp all that stuff. I had installed a few apps to explore the perks of being rooted. I had backed up with twrp. Looking at my storage and noticed a large amount of memory used in my miscellaneous section. So I went into it and deleted everything....I think thats where I messed up. My phone still works fine. Just no photos. I had very important pictures of my son on my phone. I tried using a recovery app.root to recover them but it said I had no FAT files. Any help on what I can do will be greatly appreciated

I've read in elsewhere that miscellaneous storage is actually the aggregation of various types of files including media. So if you were able to delete miscellaneous files then perhaps that's why you would have deleted the photos.

Just searched "undelete files" at Google Play and this came up:
Undelete for Root Users
Fahrbot
(1,283)
Install
Undelete for Root Users
Undelete for Android is an application for root users that allows you to recover any deleted files from your SD card or internal storage. LOOK IN "UNDELETE" FOLDER FOR FILES. With support for over 1000 file types, ...
Tried that. Got an error message on startup after grant root permissions. It said it appears I have no FAT file system storage and if I know I do then I can send log to them and after I hit ok it exits out of the app...

I would suggest you send the log to them. I would check in their release notes to see which "FAT" formatting they support. Some may support exFAT while others may support FAT32. Depending on how you're formatted, you may or may not meet their spec. I know this is always a big issue for kernels as well, as some kernels can recognize ext2/3/4/5 and FAT32 but not exFAT.

Wipe caches to resove this issue for future
OR
Check for WhatsApp directories in your sdcards (int and ext both )
There should be only one directory and if you find more than one then delete one from them that is unnecessary
For example, if your whatsapp is installed in internal sd card then app directory should be in int sdcard only and if you find in ext sdcard also then remove it because thats unnecessary and vice versa (Remember- DONT DELETE THAT NECESSARY DIRECTORY FROM RIGHT PLACE)
And then wipe caches for whatsapp and if you are having custom recovery then wipe caches from there. and reboot.
OR
You just need to reinstall whatsapp.
Before re-installing, clear data and cache for whatsapp and uninstall
Then install install whatsapp again.
May be this will help you or you can wait for whatsapp suport as this can be a whatsapp issue.

Camera photos DCIM missing

Hello
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 Android version 4.3.
I had 200+ pictures in my internal storage DCIM folder. I didn't update the firmware or anything and all of a sudden all my Camera files are gone.
The files gone are the ones taken with my phone camera, other subdirectories inside the DCIM folder are perfect.
Anyone knows why this could happen and how to recover the files?
Thanks in advance

But if you get root acces go to data/media and check if your photos there if yes than move it from data/media to sdcard. Thats all i can do for you now sorry
I've had this happen twice. Seemed like it would do it after connecting it to my PC, and then poof, all internal pics gone. Very annoying, I did try to recover them and no luck. My guess is it had something to do with the version of the Samsung Kies at that time, it has not happened again but now I make sure my stuff is always uploaded to cloud storage.

Thank you. I looked for .nomedia files in the whole phone, found some 0 bytes files created 2-3 days apart on directories \GT-I9300\Phone\WhatsApp\Media\WhatsApp Voice Notes\xxxxxx
They are empty.
Also, I noticed that although the pictures got deleted, space hasn't been freed (I have the same free space as before when the pictures were there).
Which makes me think maybe the pictures didn't disappear...
More suggestions?
