Download odin and the latest stock firmware (go to the general section, they're all there), and flash via download mode.

root again, back up all the apps, back up your personal data (like sms, call logs, music, photos, videos stored in the internal memory) and then flash the stock ROM in Odin.
It is not necessary to wait for OTA. Once the latest firmware available at sammobile, download it and backup your apps with titanium backup and flash the firmware with odin. Later just reroot and restore your apps using titanium backup.

U won't b rooted. Also if u don't want root, y u need to backup cwm and su? Which, if u use tb to backup u will need root to restore anyway.

You won;t be able to update over OTA when rooted but when you do get the notification about a new update, you can use kies to update, you won't lose apps and settings but you will lose root.

I didnt use that pit file thnx to god ... So plz guiedes to best software for this phone and also i need unlock
All the information you need is in this thread, but basically you need to flash a stock 4.0.3 samsung firmware via odin (not mobile odin), do not wipe anything, even factory reset, until you have flashed a new safe firmware via odin.

Hi
I have rooted my SGS3 using the ALLINONE root from SGS3 Toolkit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488) and it works fine. About a month ago I got a notice about a firmware update and I installed it using kies. The root ofcause dissappeared but I used the toolkit to re-root the device. No problem so far.
a few days ago I got a new notice about another firmware update and wanted to install it using kies. Now however kies tells me that the device does not support upgrading (something with "initialising").
What can I do to get this firmware update installed?

Flashing stock rom wipes your settings. Make a choice, either get root and forget about Samsung updates or flash stock and forget about XDA, can`t have it both
Moved to Q/A
I am not in it for the ROMs but merely for the rooting. In general I like the stock-rom as it is but do need to have the device rooted in order to use some apps.

Last time, once you have root you can no longer install OTA`s, you can however upgrade witk Kies provided you have no custom kernel. You will loose root and you may loose all your settings. So it will be easier for you to download the new rom from sammobile and install it with Mobile Odin Pro and keep root and loose no settings and files.
I have the same doubts/problems...
Where do I find in SamMobile the ROMs? Are those the zip under OTA files?
Do I the use Odin? Is there a guide somewhere? (I did search and ended up in this post)
Cheers
P.S. I read on SamMobile something about not being flashable via recovery (correct?)
See my signature item 3 or 4 about Odin

Based on my experience you can take an update via Kies or OTA with root as long as the stock rom remains intact (no major mods). I have generally upgraded with a stock kernel. I have mostly lost root or at least had to fix permissions each time.
The settings have remained intact each time (titanium should take care of this any way)

Hello,
I am kept to get answers for both sides and i really need a final answer please...
I've now stock ROM with root and CWM.
I want upgrade from this ICS stock to leaked JB.
How I can upgrade without wipe and without loose all settings/data/apps?
Thank you so much!
You can. But it will properly not work very well. You should rethink your data storage system if you cant wipe, what if u lose the phone? You should use drive or dropbox to sync data.

Look it's advisable to wipe. But in saying that I personally have flashed the leaked DLI4 Odin package from ICS (LF2 with Siyah Kernel and CWM) without having done a wipe. All my apps and setting are still there. Everything is working like it should.
If you don't wipe and there is a problem its best not to post about the problem in the respective thread as you will be shot down.
Do a full wipe and flash using desktop Odin if it does go wrong.

This is what you want http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835931
You should be fine without a wipe if coming from stock ROM (No promises)
Recommend you wait for the LI5, it's already up as OTA. Full one should be uploaded soon at the above link.

As others have noted you CAN BUT it's not advisable, in my experience you will have lots of FC issues, boot loops or other issues that will require battery pulls to fix. Your always best if your playing with leaked roms or experimental builds to full wipe.
Use Titanium backup and Dropbox to store your user data or apps you can't afford to loose and you should be golden.
If you can't wipe avoid roms would be my advice.
A slight variation on the question. I have done a full backup with Titanium. Suppose I do a factory reset then update to JB, then restore from Titanium. Will it be ok or is some of the restored system data incompatible with JB? Since the JB update will be OTA presumably the final release can be installed without doing a wipe if one is prepared to wait?
Cheers,
Ashley

Thanks for the prompt help. So would the least painful (in terms of loss of settings etc) way to upgrade to the JB firmware when released be
a) do full backup on TB just to be safe
b) unroot the phone
c) update to JB
d) root the phone again
Cheers,
Ashley

Guys I have a Samsung S4 GT-I9500 version running on XXUAMDK the official stock ROM. Rooted using the Adam's Kernel method with TWRP recovery.
Now I have to update it to the newer version XXUBMEA which cannot obviously be done by OTA or Kies
So my question is that if i use Odin and follow the normal procedure to flash the ROM
1. Would it brick my phone?
2. Would the phone be still rooted.?
3. Will it wipe out all my applications installed later?
If the phone will not have the root. What steps could i possibly perform to root it again
U see i dont wanna take risks on such a costly phone.
Please any experienced help would greatly be appreciated

You should make a backup of your installed applications using Titanium Backup. You will then need to Odin back to the original Firmware because you said you can't get OTA updates for some reason. This will cause a loss in root. It will also wipe all your data and programs off the device. If done correctly you will not brick your phone. Make sure the file is in the PDA slot. You can root the phone again by going here. Once everything is setup you can use Titanium Backup to restore all your applications. Then make sure to use TriangleAway to reset your flash counter.
