apps you get from the playstore or user apps can be restored through the playstore. system apps will be restored through kies or odin

Komsa is right just use odin and you wont lose any of your apps or data, providing you are not running a custom rom.

If you want keep root just update an reroot with CF Root, if you want all stock first use triangle away and reset the counter and update with Kies. Ota will not be installed because of custom recovery.
Thanks mate it's not easy to use android when I just went from ios
Hmm Triangle Away did not work? my phone still seems to be modified. I used the app and everything worked throug.
my fault, everything is ok now. Thanks again

Glad to help mate
Just got an OTA myself..but it won't install due to Root. Think it is the same root as the OP. No custom Kernels.
Pondering if I use the Kies method...will I lose data/apps etc?

When you get a update you will not loose data, you will however have to reroot with CF Root. Doesn`t matter if you update by OTA or through Kies.
I did reset the flash counter with Triangle Away with no luck? the phone seems to be modified.hmmm Gee?

Triangle away just reset the flash counter in download mode and nothing more
If you want to change the "modified" in about phone, there is 2 solution:
1- flash a stock rom with odin
2- find the thread which explain how to do it by playing with rom backup

Reset the flashcounter, update rom and do a facory reset in backup and restore. If that doesn`t work flash stock rom with Odin and do a factory reset afterwards.
Thought you wanted yo keep root?
Ah i see ))

If you want to keep root, update and afterwards reroot with CF Root. Done.
Thats what i have done

Download odin and the latest stock firmware (go to the general section, they're all there), and flash via download mode.

root again, back up all the apps, back up your personal data (like sms, call logs, music, photos, videos stored in the internal memory) and then flash the stock ROM in Odin.
It is not necessary to wait for OTA. Once the latest firmware available at sammobile, download it and backup your apps with titanium backup and flash the firmware with odin. Later just reroot and restore your apps using titanium backup.

U won't b rooted. Also if u don't want root, y u need to backup cwm and su? Which, if u use tb to backup u will need root to restore anyway.

Actually im ok with the root. But when i want to update the firmware it ends in CWM mode.I couldn't find a way to update the firmware with root.As ı understood if i want my apps and system data back there is no way to be unrooted and able to update the firmware.

You won;t be able to update over OTA when rooted but when you do get the notification about a new update, you can use kies to update, you won't lose apps and settings but you will lose root.

[Q] Odin Restore

If i odin back to stock mj7 will the padlock on boot be gone, would it trip my knox counter, and would it unroot my phone? By the way i am on mj7 rooted, want to be unrooted. Need to know because i want to trade in my phone.

Given that you want to trade it, full wipe MJ7 will do what you want. None of your data, no longer rooted, no custom flag.
If you're on the MDK bootloader and do that, then you're killing a kitten by doing that.

No, a reset won't do it. You'll need to re-flash using Kies or Odin.
Edit: Or, plug your phone into your Windows PC and use the Verizon recovery assistant.

Man that shouldn't even be allowed.. Throwing mj7 on a MDK s4
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

removed Knox and others, then used TBU to new ROM...

I had a stock S4 with NC5 and I rooted it, then used Titanium Backup to actually delete and remove some of the apks like Knox, S-Health, Amazon, etc from my phone. I think the TBU setting is the one below "Chuck Norris Mode" where it will actually remove the apk from the original Samsung rom.
I know this worked, because I did a phone full reset, and those mentioned apks were gone.....never even loaded again......The reason for the hard reset was because I think something in Xposed was causing my GPS to not lock locations.....so I did the reset...
Right now...I am happy with the mods I have and the way the phone works....
My question is....IF I wanted to get back to the Original Samsung NC5 rom, how would I do it.
I see their is a Samsung program called Kies and you can download the roms there....will that reflash my original rom so it is now stock.....
Do I need to start with an older OTA type file first, or just the NC5?
Or...can I download (samsung nc5 full rom) from somewhere ????? and use odin?
Thanks
You could try the no wipe NC5 in Odin. See the Android Dev section for NC5 wipe and no wipe files and instructions.
Odin of NC5 is recommended. Kies is rubbish and can even cause issues when using Odin for some people. Once at NC5 attempting to flash back to a prior build will likely soft brick the phone.

I was under the impression that using Odin and flashing a rom would not work unless you had MDK....

The NC5 tar file is the actual stock firmware, not a rom.
