[Q] I cannot unroot my Galaxy S2, what's wrong? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every time I try to unroot with either SuperOneClick or S2 Root, they freeze and then do not unroot my phone. What am I doing wrong?! If there is no solution, is there anyway of unrooting my phone without losing apps and data?

install stock kernel via Odin and your SGS2 will be unrooted..........

Will these remove all my apps and data and stuff? Is there any way to back it up if I do?

Komsa is right just use odin and you wont lose any of your apps or data, providing you are not running a custom rom.

[Q] Will it work?

Howdy, i recently bought a galaxy s 2 from my friend, so i did reset it to be able to change the owner etc.. anyways after the reset i see theres's still a superuser app, i guess it means i have root, but to double check i downloaded a root checker from market and it said i have root aswell. Then i checked if i have CWM, but i only have stock recovery. Is it possible to have root + stock recovery? im pretty new to this android thing..
Also i want to try out this app called chainfire 3D, but im a bit worried about cf3d install thing, will that work with this setup? or can it brick the phone?
thanks in advance
Yes it will work and no you won't brick your phone.
Read the thread CF-Root (same developer as Chainfire 3D) if you want CWM and root.
Just to be on the safe side it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to re-flash the CF-Root kernel again. It only takes a couple of minutes and will save you the risk of killing your phone.

Don't scare him by saying things that are not true. It can make it more simple by having a custom recovery, but that's about it. It will not save the risk of killing his phone (if there even is any risk involved).

thanks for the help, im gonna give it a go now!
Also, can you tell me what the factory reset does in stock recovery? i can get back to the start with it?
factory reset will return you to stock for that version of the firmware and wipe all your personal data and apps.

so, if i might mess up something, for example after installing cf3d driver and it wouldnt boot, i could use that to reset?
Yes, it is possible to have root, cwm but still have samsung recovery.
In some cases, when you select reboot to recovery menu, you get clockwork recovery, but however, when you hold power+home+volume up, it sends you back to samsung recovery.
It really depends on what was being done to the phone.
Latest Chainfire3D works in SGS2, after resetting the phone, you still need to install the Chainfire3D drivers in the application itself. If you did not, then you have the app, but did not install the drivers and therefore not really using it.
If you are paranoid, just flash it back to original stock firmware, then do what you want with it.

If you want keep root just update an reroot with CF Root, if you want all stock first use triangle away and reset the counter and update with Kies. Ota will not be installed because of custom recovery.
Thanks mate it's not easy to use android when I just went from ios
Hmm Triangle Away did not work? my phone still seems to be modified. I used the app and everything worked throug.
my fault, everything is ok now. Thanks again

Glad to help mate
Just got an OTA myself..but it won't install due to Root. Think it is the same root as the OP. No custom Kernels.
Pondering if I use the Kies method...will I lose data/apps etc?

When you get a update you will not loose data, you will however have to reroot with CF Root. Doesn`t matter if you update by OTA or through Kies.
I did reset the flash counter with Triangle Away with no luck? the phone seems to be modified.hmmm Gee?

Triangle away just reset the flash counter in download mode and nothing more
If you want to change the "modified" in about phone, there is 2 solution:
1- flash a stock rom with odin
2- find the thread which explain how to do it by playing with rom backup

Reset the flashcounter, update rom and do a facory reset in backup and restore. If that doesn`t work flash stock rom with Odin and do a factory reset afterwards.
Thought you wanted yo keep root?
Ah i see ))

If you want to keep root, update and afterwards reroot with CF Root. Done.
Thats what i have done

Download odin and the latest stock firmware (go to the general section, they're all there), and flash via download mode.

root again, back up all the apps, back up your personal data (like sms, call logs, music, photos, videos stored in the internal memory) and then flash the stock ROM in Odin.
It is not necessary to wait for OTA. Once the latest firmware available at sammobile, download it and backup your apps with titanium backup and flash the firmware with odin. Later just reroot and restore your apps using titanium backup.

U won't b rooted. Also if u don't want root, y u need to backup cwm and su? Which, if u use tb to backup u will need root to restore anyway.

You won;t be able to update over OTA when rooted but when you do get the notification about a new update, you can use kies to update, you won't lose apps and settings but you will lose root.

[Q] Remove CWM, Samsung Galaxy S3 UNROOTED

Hello,
I have the samsung Galaxy s3 unrooted with CWM installed in it. I want to remove the CWM for some warranty issues. Can you tell me any way to remove it without actually resetting the phone to factory settings? Is there any way to do it?
only way i know is to flash stock sammy rom which also overwrites the recovery therefore putting you back to stock sammy recovery and stock rom.but try to search thoroughly, who knows you might find a solution instead of just waiting for the answer here in forums.

Then you're completely out of luck. You need to flash a new recovery stock or otherwise.
