i already looked at every topic that shows how to install CWM on SIII without success.
when i install the .tar file via Odin, the process finishes, i turn off the phone and turn it on pressing (Vol+) +Home Button + Power por 10 secs
but it shows the stock recovery instead of CWM.
What's happening here? oO
try flashing it again, if you are flashing the right file it should work
I got touch cwm on my S3 by using ROM Manager.. easy pie.

hi! this happened to me about 2 days ago, what i did was i downloaded CF-Root v5.6, flashed the kernel using odin. Then reboot the phone, enter the recovery mode (volume up + home + power), wipe the data and install your old ROM or new ROM.
here's the link for the CF-Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
hope it helps...
Happened to me yesterday, wanted to update miui, so reboot into recovery and was just a black screen. Wouldn't turn on or go in recovery mode. All I did was flash a no wipe rom (litening) using odin, to get me back in recovery mode, then flashed the updated miui zip. Lost nothing.
Fixed it finally. Easy fix

How did you fix it?
I've just downloaded the latest CM10 ready to flash, booted into recovery but now I can't get out. its glitchingwhen I try to move between the menus and the power button to select doesnt do anything.
I've tried pulling the battery out, tried rebooting by holding down the power button, but all ends up back in recovery where I can't do anything.
Never had a problem with it before, phones been working fine and haven't changed anything since booting into recovery, CWM version is 5.8.4.0.
Any suggestions?
When it boots into recovery, try flashing the zip again. Worked for me when flashing CM9 on my SGS.
Can you get into download mode?

I managed to get out of it, but had to spend quite a while pressing buttons. It's glitching all over the place!
Trying to update CWM through ROM manager but that seems to keep on crashing too. Can I just find and flash the latest CWM Touch to update it and stop it glitching?
Don't use ROM manager to flash anything, use Odin or mobile Odin.
In fact, use Odin to flash cf-root, it roots and flashed cwm at the same time.

Oh I did that ages ago, I was talking about updating to the latest version of cwm. Is the best way just grabbing the latest zip from the thread in general discussion and flashing it?
And the only reason I wanted to flash through ROM manager is because recovery mode was glitching so couldn't navigate through the menus properly.

Yep, get the .tar and flash of with Odin or mobile Odin and that's the best way.
In future if recovery is glitchy just boot into download mode and flash a new recovery, I've had issues similar to yours on my galaxy nexus when touch recoveries came out first, flashed back to "classic" cwm and perfect.

Hey all
UK I'm running Pa2.13 and flashed siyah 1.6A9 L17 on UK Samsung gti9300 and received update from goomanager for my roM
I downloaded pa v2.13.1 wiped cache./dalvik then flashed the update then I flashed gapps again and then wiped cache again and rebooted my phone. All worked fine but I realised steaks had disappeared off my phone so I decided to re flash the siyah over cwmr (probably my mistake?)
Rebooted my phone and went to Samsung logo and then black screen so I waited 30mins, and nothing still. I went into download mode odin mode by mistake by pressing volume up key. Now my phone in recovery mode and says Downloading do not turn off target? Am I bricked? Also can I put my phone on charge?
Hi!
You are not bricked. Go to download mode and flash a stock firmware. It will bring you back to square one

Thank you I use mobile odin on stock, rooted (doh), i9300 with siyahkernel 1.7 ... i wanted to try out codeworkx latest CM10 on my 2ndROM and installed (cm's) ROM Manager. After installing (ROM Manager) i used it to flash CWM. I started to think "maby read before do" so I read some of chainfires comments on CF-root (which i used preor to installing Mobile Odin Pro) and he said that his CWM isnt compatible with ROM manager. Ok... I flashed a "undo governor tweaks zip" with mob odin and injected SU, Everroot and mobile Odin hoping this would undo any possible damage i had done. Well i wanted to do a ROM backup and thought that was doable in CWM so i rebooted, vol down - home - power, and pressed vol up (maby completely off course there but I ended up with a stuck odin, same as OP. I just did what you said (while it was stuck...) and the phone nicely rebooted and started up normally.
A long post "just" for saying thank you, but I thought it was appropriate that I told (people) what I did and what happened...
Cheers!

the problem is i cant go into recovery becouse when i boot up using power home and volume down it comes into download mode not in recovery mode
You should press Vol+ + Home + Power.
Try flashing the kernel(.tar) with odin you used in C7 and see if that lets you into recovery or boots up.
Or you may have to get a stock rom for your model/region etc off sammobile and flash with odin.
That rom manager once gave me 4 hours work on my x10i.....

That happened to me once. I used odin to flash stock rom and solved the problem. Don't use rom manager... It only gives trouble.

Hi' you really shouldn't worry and try to avoid flashing stock rom. you flashed GB rom over ICS rom and the problem is your data is full of stuff that's preventing you from booting the rom. You're tryong to go into recovery the wrong way. Hold together voulme up (NOT down) + home + power and it should boot your recovery just fine. Then just wipe data. the rom should boot if it was installed. If not download another rom and flash it through recovery.
Cheers

plus i think i did something rom with the rom from sammobile and now i get the screen where it says firmware upgrade has encountered an issue please select recovery mode in kies & try again
is there some way to totally wipe the phone and make a new clean install ,,,
Recently got a used Galaxy Note i717,went to install the ICS update but it would not update thriough KIES.Find out the previois owner had rooted it so I just install the stock ICS firmware manually following a guide I foiund. One problem, when I hold down POWER + VOL.UP I dont get tge screen that lets you wipe cache and what not.
Phone seems to be.working fine so far, been using it a couple days but what happens when I want to install a custom rom?
Any ideas?
Thanks.
If you put a custom ROM, it will wipe your device, which you have to, for installing a Custom ROM, and all custom ROMs are rooted btw. And yes I stay away from KIES...
You might of lost recovery when you install the ICS firmware. Here is the Super Thread with all the tools and ROMs.>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740367
If you are rooted, I would put the latest TWRP here>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647575
Then just find the custom ROM of your liking and download/install on your device, FTW.
The correct procedure to boot into Recovery is :
Hold power + volume up AND volume down until you feel the phone vibrate THEN release the power button (still holding volume up and down). The phone will then boot into Recovery. It should either be " Clockwork Mod Recovery " or "TWRP". There, you can wipe, install, backup, etc.

Thank you, this kind of worked but what showed up was "Android System Recovery <3e>.
Is this Clockwork or TWRP?
The previous owner rooted it but I cant get hold of him to ask him exactly what he did.
Its neither, it's stock recovery.
You have to flash a file from your pc to the phone to replace stock recovery with a custom recovery like CWR or TWRP.

I see.I already have Odin installed and used it to flash the stock 4.04 since it would not update from KIES,will installing CWR or TWRP cause any issues?
No, just get in download mode and flash the TWRP odin file (I prefer TWRP over CWR). Reboot and you will go into recovery. Take a few minutes to make a backup of your rom.

It comes down to personal preference really ...
As CWM does a fine job as a recovery. But TWRP has many more features for the user, and seems to provide a much better user experience.
TWRP is clearly better supported, without the common outdated "status 7" errors often found in CWM.
Up to you obviously, but it's TWRP for me ....g
^^^^^ well said, Sarge. I was a CWR user for ten phones and tablets, but I tried TWRP on this phone. Its the bomb-diggity.
