Yes, another "Is it bricked?" thread - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The last thing i wanted to do is make a n00b post like this but i want to make sure i have missed anything so far.
I have a white 9100m that a friend gave to me. It was upgraded to stock Bell ICS when it was released. The phone got really warm in his pocket then shut off. When he tried to power it on it would just sit at the SGSII splash screen forever.
Some things to note:
- Download mode works
- Cannot get into recovery
- Phone charges fine
Now i have tried Odin to flash stock Bell ICS both with the appropriate pit and without. I have tried flashing a ICS CF-root to try and get into a CWM recovery and it doesn't work. I cannot also get the phone to be recognized with ADB with the android SDK installed or after installing kies.
I am lost and am ready to just send it in but perhaps i am missing something that people 100x smarter me will know. Any thoughts?

Theres a thread by Phistachio so have a look there.

Did you get any error while carrying out the instructions in that thread?
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII

No error at all. ODIN successfully flashed anything i threw at it. This is why i am thinking its hardware related.

Restoring to stock

Hi Guys, I tried flashing Eugene's gingerclone rom and it soft bricked my phone. Anyhow, I flashed back to stock with Odin, but It's not removing the AT&T loader his ROM came with. So everytime I restart my phone it shows the ATT logo first the the vibrant black & white screen, then whatever bootloader the rom comes with. How can I remove this and get my phone back in full stock mode so I can flash a clean nero5. Does it make a difference what version of Odin i'm using? I used version 3.1
Im not sure why there was an ATT bootloader involved since I am guessing you are using a T-mobile Vibrant. But, I dont use Eugenes ROMS. Anyway, You should be able to flash back to TRUE stock JFD via Odin. Just look for it in the Bible in the Development forum under ODIN roms. This will take you all the way back to stock and remove root.
Hello, yes I was able to restore the phone to stock and remove the root but when I reboot or turn on the phone it still shows the att screen first, then the black and white vibrant screen them the pink letters bootloader for T-Mobile. I followed the video tut from the Bible thread and it's still there. What else could I do? I feel like something is not being fully deleted or something.

Very interesting, Did you select re-partition during the odin flash?
Yes I selected re-partition like the video said. What to do?

Have you tried checking over at Eugenes forums http://eb-productions.proboards.com/ . I think I have seen a thread concerning this over there.
I just posted on hus q n a. I found some threads about deleting bootloader.zip or something. How would one do that? Do we SSH into the phone or something?

Yellow triangle at boot. GT-P7150 Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

I was running Task 14 revamped fat rom.
I decided to go back to stock to make sure I could. Basically no other reason.
I followed the sticky for UN-rooting here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474971. Had a hell of a time getting it Un-rooted. Everything went wrong from the beginning it seemed. Seems the files and guide don't coincide with each other which probably started my problems.
In the process, not sure when. I started getting this stupid triangle with the exclamation point in the middle when it boots.
On searching I have only found that it just means I flashed a wrong kernal or something like that and it's harmless and to ignore it. It's driving me nut though!
I did Have to finally use PDA_SIGNED_P7105.tar.md5 Which I know isn't for my US tab but I'm sure I saw the error BEFORE resorting to this as I couldn't get everything to correctly adb push to the tab either so I finally used that file with Odin knowing it would probably cause problems.
I got everything running as I want again. Fortunately I keep a backup which made my life a little easier once I was able to get back to Task 14 again. But the stupid little triangle is still there after restoring the backup too.
Is there a way to get rid of it without stripping back down to stock without having as many problems? Maybe a kernel to flash? Maybe an update or a quickie guide to uninstalling Task 14 and going back to stock (I don't have any links or local stock roms) or something?
Anyway, could anybody help? I don't want to spend another two days without sleep just trying to get rid of this stupid little thing.
Yeah I'm that anal about the stupid triangle....lmao

In theory you should be able to just flash a stock kernel.

I could really use a US copy of a file like this to use with Odin. PDA_SIGNED_P7105.tar
Anybody?
I'm getting tired.

Where to send Bricked i777 to get fixed? The bad decisions that got me Bricked.

I finally bricked my first phone. Its been a long ride but it caught up to me. I have had three different android phones within about 4 years and have successfully rooted all three myself and have successfully flashed them over and over close to 1000 times between all three phones including modems, kernals, gapps, themes etc. So what gives? Why today? To be honest I don't know. But here is what happened...
The past few days I have been going back and forth between different kernals for this device to try to get something that won't freeze up. ( I liked browsing on this phone but I would get freeze ups and therefore would flash something new to try and resolve it.) Today my phone froze so I tried a simple reboot. The boot then did a freeze on the kernal's "intro" picture. It wasn't a bootloop it just frooze. (I was on XWLPT with Skyfire Kernal). I decided to reboot into recovery and flash a different kernel. I flashed NEAK The flash went halfway then stuck and froze. I rebooted to try to get back to the phone's main screen. This time it would not boot. I couldn't tell if it was in bootloop or was froze. I went back into recovery. Here I should of wiped everything but in the back of my mind I thought I could just do it in odin if I lost recovery. So I tried flashing Siyah for sammy roms. This is when I lost everything. It froze in cmw on the flash again but this time when I tried going back into recovery it stayed on the Galaxy SII screen. So I put the phone in download mode and started Odin up. When trying to flash anything in Odin I got stuck on nand write start! I never heard of this. I thought Odin would work as this is how I rooted the phone when I first got it. Last thing I did was install kies which couldn't even connect to the phone. So all I am left with is download mode and taking way more caution when flashing. I think it may have been a case of the brickbug. Even though I was on a I9100 rom and using "safe" kernels I believe something happened to lock me out from writing anything to the phone.
U already posted this in another thread. I posted a response there for ya

Revert to stock using Odin and download mode probably or the guys and (sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings) but the guys at mobile tech videos offer a service to unbrick your phone.

Yeah I know . But its just a front man! They receive the bricked device, then send it to some Chinaman named Finchenzo. And he fixes em all and sends em back to mobile tech! Then you get your device back! Poor Finchenzo

Send it to MobileTechVideo.com. I sent my bricked SG2 in and a week later and at a cost of only $50, it was returned fully functional.
Sent it to MTV. Mobile Tech Video said this...The device's onboard EMMC controller was in a non-responsive state.
I never flashed anything that wasn't specifically made to be flashed for an i777.
Everything I had ever flashed was on the i777 development thread.
My advice ...beware of the brickbug. Also don't flash anything when the phone is hot. This happened when my phone was hot and maybe a reason why it froze while flashing in cwm.
And for a recap... What did you flash right before tie happened and what were you coming from?

Specifically the rom booted fine with Shostock-XWLPT. When using the rom sometimes it would freeze up so I flashed NEAK kernal over it. Froze in cmw during halfway through the flash.Rebooted after about 5 minutes wating for cmw to finish. (it never did) Phone bootlooped. Pressed hardbuttons to get to recovery. Recovery worked went into NEAK cwm. Instead of wiping and starting fresh here decided I would take a shortcut and flashed a Siyah for i777 over that. CWM froze again halfway through flashing the Siyah. After waiting 5 minutes again decided to reboot. Phone bootlooped. No more hardbutton recovery. Phone bricked. I Can still go into download mode but even MTV could not unbrick it. Said EMMC controller was in unresponsive state. Don't know what that means but know its now a paperweight.
Got it back today I still can get into download mode. Odin will recognize phone. When I try to flash a kernal it follows through until right before it actually writes and says NAND Write Start. I believe the internal memory either is filled with bad sectors or someting like brickbug locked anything from writing to EMMC.

(SOLVED)Stuck on Boot screen

What ROM was your friend on? Are you sure it is a T959 (3g) and not a T959V (4g) ? Do you know what Odin is? How did you try to root - update.zip, Superoneclick? Need more info before a proper diagnosis.
I'm off for next few days but there are plenty here that can help and check my signature for direct downloads of file.
You already flash the boot.img that is located in the ROM zip?

Yeah, I would say easiest would probably be to just Odin it back to stock, then, just because your an awesome friend (right?) you go ahead and hook him up with Helly Bean

This is a guide that has all the files you need to DL.
Basically it will guide you through downloading Odin (open disc in a nutshell) and the two files you need to flash the phone back to stock 2.1 eclair. It will tell you how to put phone in DL mode. Never disconnect a phone from PC while Odin is running.
After that, it will guide you through the rooting the phone and getting a custom recovery(clockwork mod).
CWM recovery is what is needed to install a custom rom.

ok im confused on the rooting part. I cant seem to put it into recovery... the vibrant logo just keeps on restarting till i let go and the phone just starts up.
Are you on GB boot loader? Make sure your using correct button combo to get to recovery. Think its down and power at same time. Kind of a pain in the butt to do until you get the hang of it. Soon as you see Samsung let go and it should give yellow text scrolling, then recovery menu.
°thats not exactly rooting. The HB ROM has root though, so when all is finished you will be rooted.
Also make sure when HB is installed, when you first boot it let it sit and don't touch it for 10 min or so
If you get stuck pm me

[Q] Can't Get to CWM Recovery - Blank Screen

Hey folks,
I installed Helly Bean a few months back and just downloaded an updated version of the ROM - when I went to flash it I discovered that I can no longer get to Recover, when I choose 'Reboot' and select 'Recovery' the phone reboots but just lands on a black screen. The touch buttons at the bottom of the phone light up when you touch any of them - but otherwise nothing happens; I have to hold the power button to reboot the phone again and it just starts up as normal.
I tried using CWM ROM Manager to flash a new recovery (Choosing 'Samsung Vibrant (MTD)') - but it says there's no officially supported CWM Recovery yet for my device, and asks if I have installed one manually. I've looked into it...but I can't seem to find HOW to install one manually.
It's really not a pressing thing as my current ROM works well enough...but it'd be nice to figure out a solution. I'm still pretty much a noob at all of the Android development stuff...so please bear with me. Any advice would be most appreciated!

Looks like Sept 27th - thought I thought it was older than that.
It was actually the kernel that caused the issue, I'll look into the build date/number.
Edit:that is the build, flash the latest .tar kernel in Odin, then boot to recovery and flash new ROM.

Thank you for checking!
Quick follow-up! Back when I flashed the ROM (and previous ROMs) I had a PC - so I'm familiar with Odin, but since then it crapped out and now I'm saddled with a Mac. I've investigated a Mac alternative...but all the threads I've found have dried up download links and don't quite explain the process of setting it up. Any advice there?
Worse case scenario I boot up the PC and try to get through the process of using Odin - but as the problem is that the graphics card is dying; the thing could crap out again at any moment - which I assume could brick my phone if it happened mid-flash.
Thanks!
Not real familiar with Mac. Heimdall is the only program I'm aware of, Im not sure if you can flash a kernel with it. Sorry

Got it solved with Odin. Thanks for the point in the right direction!
