[Q] ISSUE with Rezound Cubed ICS 1.0.2 OTA process - HTC Rezound

First off, I am loving Cubed ICS 1.0.2 on my Rezound. I am seeing an the When attempting to run the OTA updater to catch up with the the update that addresses "Patch for the repair of Power Menu". According to the OTA Updater I am on ROM IML74K, ROM Version 1.0.2 (August 12, 2012 7:00:00 AM). When I select the available update and click on Download, I most often get a brief flash of the download box and then a message that the MD5 check has failed. Sometimes it does appear to download the entire update (59 elements) but ends up with the same MD5 error. Any advice?

Go to Settings, Apps, All, OTA Updater. Force Stop it and Clear Data.
Then go on the SD card and delete the OTA Updater folder. Check both cards!
Then try it again.

So, this fixed the issue with getting the download, but after reboot while in recovery, the process can't locate the update file and it aborts.

success: manually moved zip file

For whatever reason, AmonRa recovery could not see the file on the internal SD, so I moved it to the external and was able to run the update successfully.

They are working on a fix for this.
AmonRa doesn't auto mount the SD. I will be issuing an update soon.

any chance the fix is in the 1.0.3?

Kind of. It seems CWR and TWRP auto mount the SDCard when they start, but AmonRa does not.
So it will fail, but you just go to the install option and do it manually. You wont have to move any files.

Thanks for the reply. I was able to use the semi-manual approach for 1.0.3 - works great!

Dammit I can't wait these 300 seconds to start downloading!!!! boo!!!
Just making sure, we can do the nandroid backup of our phones from clockwork right? =)
*Edit: Seems like nandroid is preforming a full backup of my phone... decided to try running it while I downloaded this rom.
What kind of graphical errors are we talking? Worth wiping away all the work i did or will there be another wipe update soon? heh
#Edit #2: (live blogging)
Installing legend right now! When should we start thinking about partitioning our SD cards?
- that rom installed surprisingly fast....
I got the option to restore my settings from a backup on the SD card. Thats interesting. I selected yes just for kicks.
it did something for a bit but after it was done it hadn't found my gmail account. I wonder what it restored? and from where?
Well after I put in my gmail account it found my fb account and exchange account. Interesting.
Its up and running and super fast. Is there anyway i can get the black bar to the bottom of my screen? its on the side right now and its driving me crazy.

We may be running as root with this rom?
looks like the eng build.. when terminal starts you are automatically root. adb shell is the same deal.
pushed superuser.apk from the original slide root pack and it pops up when you type su in terminal (and go from a # to a #)

Get update to redownload and try again?

So I had cwm installed when the ota tried to install, which of course failed. I installed stock recovery and tried going into that, it did an update, rebooted and was updating again(not sure why twice) and then a red exclamation appeared. Rebooted and the OS version was the new 2.0, but the radio was the old version still. I luckily was able to reflash amonra and restore my cwm backup from prior to update.
Does anyone know how I might go about getting the phone to try again, this time with stock recovery installed from the start?
Anyone know how to clear all the downloaded update files and get it to see there is an update and download again? The "Check new" option does nothing at all. The status option shows the update, with the original time I requested the download. No prompts to install it since what I assume is the first one where it beeped right as I was pressing home. I'd like to clear it out and just have it redownload and install. Must be a way, hoping someone knows one.

Ok, yeah found it at /cache/kumo/OTAupdate.zip. Deleted it and rebooted but when I do an update check it still does absolutely nothing(no dialog at all after pressing) and the status still talks about the last time i started the upgrade process. Any other files I might need to change/delete to get it to start downloading again?

Make sure you either move the titanium backup folder off your internal storage if it is.. it get's wiped. I am new to using Titanium backup and when I went to reinstall titanium backup apps I realized they don't show up so I am assuming Titanium defaults the backup folder onto internal storage.
Yeah it defaults to /mnt/sdcard which is internal for us. Moved mine to ext_sd so that should be ok at least.

OTA Update Boot Loop with Revolutionary

verizon forced an update on my rooted stock thunderbolt. i have Revolutionary for recovery but when i load it up it immediately tries to install an update. i cannot select any options.
it asks for me to install or cancel the update. after canceling there are no options but reboot.
what should i do to try to recover out this?
thanks
You need to download a recovery and clear caches and then see what happens. You will have to fastboot flash the recovery. I'm not 100% sure but you may be able to delete the update file from your sd card to stop the update.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
you need to boot into rev and goto advanced unmount /cache and format /cache and reboot the ota update will say failed when u and you'll be good had the same issue couple days ago
the issue is i cannot clear cache via Revolutionary because as soon as it starts i get "Do you want to start update?". if i choose no i can only reboot from there. if i choose yes it will just try to update and hang
i also cannot seem to get to fastboot because of the above as well.
any other options here?
You need to delete the downloaded update from your sd card. If you don't then it will continue to do this.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
thanks so much.
i booted to Revolutionary w/o the SD card. Then flashed Clockwork using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694
After that i was able to the wipe the cache using Clockwork and get back into my phone. from there deleted the update file
going to add the OTABlock from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664082
hopefully that will stop verizon from pushing on another one
thanks!
Deleting Update File
Forgive me, bit of a noob to rooting and such. I downloaded Astro File Manager and also hooked up my phone to my PC and entered the USB storage but cannot find the update zip.
How should I find it?
It will be in the root directory of the SD card and called "PG05IMG.img" i believe
Finding update ZIP
Can I find it via Astro File Manager or do I need to plug into a PC?
Yeah you sure can

Big Red been killing me too. I just cleared the cache on the sd and will see what that does. I am a complete n00b at this so I dont know how to load the blockota program without a .exe. GGRRRR
Deleting Zip
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I have looked all over the SD Card, and I cannot find the file. For the third straight night, after deleting the cache, it tried to force the update, and my phone went into the shut down loop.
I went into a folder labeled "root" but it was empty. I'm trying to flash the zip that will disable the OTA now, but can anyone instruct me on where to go on the SD Card to delete the update?

When I Open the SD card with Astro, the only files below the folders are "pcsc_pcsc_00001," "SELog," and Superuser. No update Zip.
Try this. Go into system/etc/security and change otacerts to otacerts.bak this will prevent the update from trying to start ever again.

ok I'm also new to the thunderbolt on 2.2.1 but this is what i did to fix it. first thing i did was turn on wifi and connected to my home network by the time it connected the phone rebooted and tried to flash update but it failed and got stuck at the android with the triangle so i did a battery pull and it booted normally as soon as i could open the playstore i downloaded rom manager free.as soon as it finished installing the phone powered down and tried the update again and failed and got stuck so i did another battery pull. i powered up and as soon as i could i opened rom manager and flashed a recovery as soon as it finished the phone powered down again, it tried to flash again and failed i did one last battery pull and when it rebooted i opened rom manager and rebooted into recovery and just cleared cache and then rebooted. finally when it booted it said install failed and hasn't came back yet I'll post if it tries to update again

System Recovery won't load?

I can't get my System Recovery to load. It installs fine(doesn't as about SU permissions). When I try to open it I get the following error: "Sorry! The application System Recovery (process com.tenfar.a4.recovery) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
I have tried this several time. I have confirmed that I am rooted and am updated to 2.3.5. I am trying to install Eclipse.

Ok, thats the right one. I dont know why it wouldnt work. Even if you arent rooted, it should still install. It will only ask for root when you push the "install recovery" button. You just installed it like a normal apk file right? You didnt try to put it in system/app/ or anything did you?

Thats weird. Maybe go into the app info for the system recovery app and clear data and cache for it. Maybe it will clean it up. I dont have very many thoughts on this. I've never ran into this problem.

[Q] TWRP Backups being deleted at boot

Using XtreSoLite ROM on a Galaxy S5. When I do a TWRP backup (default settings) and I target my external SD card (64GB SanDisk microSD), the backup succeeds and I can go back to the main TWRP menu and verify that the backup was created in a new folder called 'TWRP' on the SD card. However, once I boot into the system and get past the unlock screen, that TWRP folder is deleted from the SD card along with the backup.
All of the other files on the SD card are untouched, just anything to do with TWRP is removed.
Any idea what could cause this? I searched the thread for my specific ROM with no luck regarding this issue.
I have this issue as well running the stock rom. I also have the 64 gb card. Near as I can tell something about the way TWRP is writing the files to the file system (exfat) android doesnt like and corrects which removes the files. If I pull the card out of the phone before booting android I can see the files on the PC. The work around I'm currently using is to mount an external USB storage to do my backup, then copying the backup to the SD card in android.
..
Hey there guys...its happening to me as well and its annoying because you cant rely in your backups!
Any solution or just that SD take out workaround? Its kinda dangerous because you can corrupt the SD by doing this often!

My solution for this error:
--Device S5 mini G800F
--TWRP 2.8.1
--MicroSD 64Gb
--TotalCommander for android instaled.
Step by Step:
1. Boot in recovery mode.
2. Create and save your backup into extSDCard (TWRP/backups folder).
* Example: extSDCard\TWRP\BACKUPS\14001308b6ffd4cc\2016-01-01--01-01-01 XXXXX.YYYYYYYYYYYYY
-- 2016-01-01--01-01-01 XXXXX.YYYYYYYYYYYYY = my last backup folder name created automatically by TWRP.
-- 2016-01-01--01-01-01 = backup date and time
-- XXXXX.YYYYYYYYYYYYY = phone and rom model/version
3. Open File Manager in TWRP and copy your backup folder (2016-01-01--01-01-01 XXXXX.YYYYYYYYYYYYY) from extSDCard to internal memory.
4. Restart your phone (system restart in twrp).
5. Open TotalCommander and navigate to extSDCard/backup folder (extSDCard\TWRP\BACKUPS\14001308b6ffd4cc)
6. Create new folder and rename it with your backup name folder. *Example: extSDCard\TWRP\BACKUPS\14001308b6ffd4cc\2016-01-01--01-01-01 XXXXX.YYYYYYYYYYYYY
7. Go to internal memory (copied backup folder) and copy all files to created folder in step 6.
8. Restart in recovery mode, run file manager in TWRP and delete backup folder from internal memory.
9. Restart your phone (system restart in twrp).
10. Finish.
