I have searched multiple sites for quite some time now and I can't find anything relating in the slightest to the type of theme I want...
I really would like to have a Toonami Theme for my Amaze 4G, even if one is created...would I need to be rooted, because I have yet to root my phone as I have no experience and honestly a bit nervous using my only phone to do my first root...

Example of what this toonami theme should look like?
I really want to do the root, I just get nervous since it's my only phone. As far as how it would look, I'll post some pictures when I get home from work tonight. All I really have are some wallpapers/random pics and the Windows version of the Toonami font.

If you just want root there is very little if any risk. Simply download hasoon2000's toolkit and let it do all the work. It's a great tool it takes all the guess work out of unlocking the true potential of your phone.
I might just do that this week on a day off. What benefits would I be looking at? Once I get another phone on the side, I'll be more than ready to overclock and really push this thing. I just really want to learn more about what I can truly push Android to do. (Going to buy Raspberry Pi and/or ODROID-X soon too)

I'll work on the same if it helps as well. I still don't get how there isn't a Toonami theme somewhere on the web yet...
What would really be cool is if there was a way to modify any of the assistant programs (Iris (Siri), Skyvi, etc...to have Sara's voice...would be absolutely awesome lol.
Are you looking for a Sense skin or a full out theme? If it is a Sense Skin you do not need root to apply it. Do you have the latest release of ICS with Sense 3.6?
If you do want a whole theme, and root let me know which ROM you decide on because I have to theme according to the ROM.

As of now, I have ICS 4.0.3, and Sense 3.6...I have never actually rooted a phone though, so 1. I don't know how, and 2. As much as I do want to root...it makes me a little nervous using my only phone as my guinea pig since I have no experience. What is the easiest/most stable root for the Amaze if I just want to optimize/delete T-Mobile bloatware/have full customization options?
Sorry for all of the questions...I just want to make sure I do this right.

Grab hasoons tool from the dev section and follow the boxes by their labelled numbers.
1. Unlock your bootloader
2. Flash a custom recovery
3. Root
The tool has all the necessary files you need to get all of this done, if you need help otherwise, post right here and well we'll help you, .

2 last questions before I do the root I suppose:
1. Best way to backup in case something happens to go awry?
2. Best ROMs for the Amaze 4G...I prefer a balance between performance/longevity because I usually have to use my phone quite a bit throughout the day but I still want to be able to handle the higher-end games and such (Modern Combat 3, N.O.V.A. 3, etc.)
~By the way, thanks so much for the extra help. I really am trying to learn all of this as fast as I can.~

Well if you want to keep the standard T-mobile ROM and just remove bloat you can do that after rooting. That's what I did with my husband's phone because he didn't like any of the custom ROMs I put on there LOL. The rooting is really simple and just involves plugging your phone into your computer via USB and letting the tool do the rest.
If you do choose to go and flash another ROM there are multiple backup apps in the Google play store that are free. I like mybackup Root. It re-installs all your games and their data, so if you beat certain levels etc. it leaves all that info.
If you are looking to stay with sense and flash a new ROM I would say go with either one of the Energy ROMs they are really stable and all the bloatware is removed for you. There's two different ones in the development section depending on which theme you like better. I am currently running Jellybean Fusion on mine, but that ROM has sense completely removed. It is all really up to what you prefer. That's what I love about Android
You can also do a general backup of your current setup/rom, data, etc using the custom recovery you'll be installing.
Well...here is where I am now. I unlocked the bootloader via Hasoon2000's toolkit. But, when I try to flash recovery via the toolkit, it takes me to the command prompt and hangs at <waiting for device>...I have tried this around 10 times now and it has the same result...what do I do? All I have managed to do was a factory reset/unlock bootloader... >___>

Yeah, tried that. Multiple times. I have tried re-doing the whole process start-to-finish, still nothing. Is there another way to root?
If I recall correctly when I rooted last time around I had a similar problem, so I moved the folders and toolkit to my C drive directory instead of being in the subfolder and it worked.
Check out this post
I'll try that this evening when I get home from work then. The toolkit comes with 2 recovery options...4ext or TWRP...which one do I use?

I haven't seen anything about anyone developing and app((I assume u mean similar to gingerbreak)) for the root process.
There is a great new tutorial for rooting made by moon shadow if u need any info
I was hoping someone would be able to create a one click app also but haven't seen anyone doin it yet
Ya that's exactly the app I was thinking about. My computer is to slow so I was wondering if anyone was working on a app

It doesn't take s fast Computer. I have used a 10yr old computer running an early XP system and it only took like 15mins to root it
Ya I think I'm gonna try it out again. But it would be cool to have a one click app though

Was there a specific spot in process that seemed to hang for u or not work?
Might be able to work around it somehow.
And I agree. Something like gingerbreak would be awesome.
Tho u should be able to go to froyo and use gingerbreak.
then use root explorer and do the maintain rootexplorer across updates method.
There is a thread I did on how to do it in Dev forum. It came from p3droid over at rootzwiki.
I think my computer is fast enough, and it is nearly 4 years old (I built it in South Korea for $1,500, valued over $6,000 in the US).

I am pretty proud of it until I walk into PC direct every now and then lol. I feel like I am due for an overhaul...
Also, you would think I would learn how to dev for Android being that I have a nice setup... but no, lol. I am contemplating starting when I get out of school for winter break though. I need a new hobby since I shutdown/sold all my websites, and cut ties with Wayne over at WJD Designs last year(Long story, we go way back to HS).
Petes one click root is just a standalone executable file so it shouldn't take too much computing power to handle it.
You just plug your phone in, open petes one click and click run. Hell you could even do it on a computer lab or library computer if it allowed flash drive access.

Within 2 hours of me having my dx2 I had already sbf'd to 2.3.4 and used petes one click root. It is very simple, I believe there are directions somewhere around here, I do agree though a one click root app would be nice, or is someone working on a pre rooted version of 2.3.4? I just came from the DX world and they have a rooted version of one of their last updates, not 100% sure if it's possible with the DX2 but hey something to consider. I am really contemplating starting to develop stuff for the dx2 but am currently busy with wedding stuff, buying a house, school, and finishing a motor swap in a friends camaro lol I like to stay busy apparently.

I'm sure your setup is awesome, I have no doubt about that however, at least going on the information in the post and the image, most of that $6,000 was spent on monitors and not the PC.
In addition, the monitor's have very little to do with the speed of your PC, so it's not really relevant to the topic of using Pete's One Click rooting app. Kudos to the setup though, not that I want to take away from it; I simply want to be sure to clear the air with that so that a newbie looking for advice does not see the image and think they need a datacenter style operation just to perform a simple task on their phone.
Pete's One Click rooting tool is very simple. Follow the instructions in the below guide and you'll be rooted in no time.

I have no clue why or who ever in Samsung development messed this up, but when you stream flash videos in full screen the notification does not auto hide. To me this is completely unacceptable as it ruins the possibility of "full screen" and it can actually damage the oled in these phones.
I think this fix should be a MUST for any developer currently making rooms for this phone. The only from currently that I know of that fixes it is Cyanogen.. but I do want a stable ICS and oh boy can't we all dream of a perfect aosp from... dreams of super fast clean friendly user experience...

AS said above, it looks like your are running ICS which is in beta and has not been officially released, you are complaining about an unfinished, unofficially released BETA rom.
You may need some time of reflection and a lot of reading to understand what you are doing......
Why be a dev if your goal is half ass roms?
You answer your question yourself why build a rom based on a half assed buggy beta release .
Put in a very simple way . Why waste time on a buggy beta build that may be very different come release day .
When ICS is released and if a dev thinks its worth fixing your problem i am sure they will .
jje
OK it sounds like no one understood , I will attempt to explain this better. This is NOT an ICS problem this problem is with EVERY rom including stock update strait from Kies. I went as far as contacting Samsung to get a fix, but as you can see in my profile I live in the US and the US Samsung will not help me with my UK phone. Why everything between us is so divided beats me but still the issue remains.
As I stated currently the only rom that fixes it is Cyanogen but just as JJ stated why use a buggy beta when the release will be much different/better. Also I am currently running ICS and have not encountered a single bug. Everything works perfect except for Samsung's stupid attempt to burn in my screen. I don't know about everyone else but I paid $580 for this phone and the last thing I want is a permanent" 3g" on my screen...

Then give us more information. Saying that streaming videos don't go full screen is no where near enough. What ROM, website, browser etc are you using because the last time I tried this (Not long after the S2 was released) it worked just fine. I tried a 720p video from megaupload and it went full screen just fine. Same with youtube/youtube app. Give more information, not attitude. Also, i'd wager than there is zero chance of your display burning in a 3G icon. Perhaps the full notification bar if you use MIUI/a white or light theme but I highly doubt the majority of people will experience any burn in, never mind such a small specific burn in.
Fair enough.. more info. I usually run completely stock and decided to play around with ics. A main site I stream with is twitch.TV (I am a big starcraft2 player and use the pro streams to get better) while I'm at work I watch for hours sometimes 7 hours straight. This WILL cause burn in.
When the problem occurs:
Watching ANY true flash video online(not YouTube app) while in full screen mode in any browser or Rom besides cyanogen.
If you don't believe me test it yourself. Go to twitch.TV pick a stream let the video load and click the full screen button. If you have a rom that the notification bar disappears let me know and you won't hear.me "moan" anymore.
Or maybe one of you super nice Brits can call UK Samsung and get an official fix. The number is 08702420303.

Download the diff, check for relevant changes (there's not many for fullscreen) and mod your own browser. Before you ask, I'm not going to hold your hand on this one, and am not willing to do it for you either (I don't use an ICS ROM).
Not asking for any hand holding or hand outs for that matter.. one last question can it be done completely from the phone?
Actually nvm that browser mod will not work with ics. Even states in that post "should be comparable with 2.3.x roms.

Sure it will, you just have to be willing to put in some work. Namely, as I already said, downloading the diff, checking for relevant changes (I think there's only two changes relating to full screen) and getting them into your Browser.apk. You're probably going to need to do some reading.

I apologize if these have been asked. I will be ordering an Hp TouchPad very soon. I will put Cm9 on it.
What is the best way to do this?
What rom should I use? I am looking for performance, ease of use, features, and battery life over 6 hours with moderate usage if possible.
How do I adjust the bootloader?
And finally what apps or downloads do I need?
Thank you!

read them. Kinda helped a bit... now I have some more questions.
What ROM should I use?
If you suggest a ROM, can you please give instructions so a two year old, who has flashed a few ROMs before, can do this?
How do I install CWM?
Just ordered my touchpad for $167. Also got 5 screen protectors and the HP Fitted Case for $30.
This will be my first tablet, excluding a few windows 95 wacom ones and one MID tabled that i threw out my window.
I need a ROM with WiFi working out of the box, er uh out of the flash.
Personally, if you want the most stable, I'd go with the CM9 Alpha2. It doesn't have a cam or mic, but then again, nothing Android has them.
Other than that, it's really simple. All you'll need is to read the thread at http://rootzwiki.com/topic/18843-releasealpha2-cyanogenmod-9-touchpad/ and follow the instructions - everything is there. Download the files it requests, put them on your touchpad's media folder from WebOS in a folder called "cminstall", then reboot into flash mode (power and vol-up when rebooting), and run the commands it says.
It's super-easy, takes about 5-10 mins, and you're golden. Downloading the ROM will be the slowest part of it.

There are more than a few roms available to the TP's, I use the unofficial cyanogenmod nightlies. Some have more problems than others. Many have wifi issues, but I've never had any.
Go to the unofficial cyanogenmod thread, the directions there are very good and simple and easy to follow. As for the cwm, do the same. The instructions are also easy to follow, a lot easier than if I wrote them.....
If you need a rock solid rom with no issues, you're better off using WebOS. Remember, all the android stuff is Alpha. I use webos about 50% of the time. It's a great os, and has much, much better battery life.
Gonna try cm9 alpha 2.
Should I install this too? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23009531
Seems like a good idea and I understand it. For the cm9 alpha 2, do I use the latest cwm? Thanks!

It's completely up to you if you want to use that or not. I used the 1.2 myself back when I wasn't on the nightlies. I am going to try the 1.4 on my tablet once it finishes it's encryption and see where I go from there.
Ok ill use it. One more question (for now...)
Can you link me to the Alpha 2 download? I have "update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-Touchpad-alpha2-fullofbugs.zip" but the "update" and "fullofbugs" parts makes me feel like I got the wrong one. and it took about 30 seconds to download.

update at the start allows the ACMEInstaller script to use it (all files that it uses require that designation at the start). The fullofbugs part just reminds you that it is an alpha build, and that there will most likely be bugs in it. It is just their way of letting you know this is nowhere near a Final level release.

Seconded. The CM9 Nightlies may be better at some point, but since they change every day, it is a bit of pot luck.
Apps are your choice, but I am generally rather disappointed with the tiny number of tablet optimised apps. They are usually marked HD, and often cost (more). Of course phone apps run fine, but they do not really use a tablet to the full potential, and are sometimes a bit clunky to use.

Though I am having one problem. When I switch to portrait mode the icons and Widgets shift to the left. Can this be fixed by changing my dpi? And what should I be using? 120 or 160
Sent from my Galaxy Note on At&t
If you're on 160, that's because of the way that the orientation works it. It puts an extra row on the side when you switch to portrait. Not quite sure why.
However, the latest nightly builds (I noticed it as of 20120402) allow you to set your number of columns / rows on your homescreen (when in landscape - when it goes portrait, it does the same thing).
Don't know how well it looks at 120, but at 160 it isn't too annoying. Especially since my tablet almost never goes portrait, unless I'm reading. I'll let someone more experienced answer this one.
Oh no. I think I broke it already! Went to install the 1.4 mod pack from my Roman manager app and it shut down and now shows this... restart button does nothing... help!?

Hah thanks for the laugh xD
Anyway, I should have worded that differently: "Have you flashed a ROM that helps with the multitasking issue".
Most of them do, but if you don't want to flash a ROM some people reported that if you change the setting within developer options to 'At most 4 processes' for the background process limit it helps alleviate this issue.
This is by far my biggest problem with this phone. From what I've heard, stock ICS doesn't have the same issue.
Yeah, it pisses me off when I scroll through a list and go out of the window, ONLY to have that damn list reload back to the first item.
There HAS to be a way to get rid of that permanently if stock ICS phones don't have this problem?
Yeah, the multitasking is the only issue I have with this phone. Reminds me of the fail WP7 has with multitasking :/
Yeah a lot of the issues with this phone can only be alleviated through rooting it and flashing a custom rom. As I stated in another thread with my opinions of this phone and the pros/cons, this phone requires the user to root it in order to have a pleasurable experience.

Which is really disappointing. We shouldn't have to root in order to get things like this to work properly. If HTC is going to place a button dedicated to a specific function on their phones, you'd think that function would actually work.

No one is arguing against it, we are merely providing solutions to the problem. Furthermore, if we want to nitpick the button isn't a 'multitasking' one, it simply brings up a recent apps list. That being said I do hope HTC fixes this. It seems to affect all the Sense 4.0 phones. I know the One X has this problem by simply looking at their forum and from what I tested the One S at T-Mobile while helping my parents get a new phone, it seems that the S also has the same problem.
Rooting and flashing roms hasn't fixed my multitasking issues..I think its a deeper sense issue..I've manually adjusted min free settings with no luck..so Im assuming that its Kernel related buried deep..its my only gripe with this otherwise perfect device..and some people actually like its killing of apps..although it doesn't seem to free up any extra ram ...edit - hasn't the issue been resolved with the att hox with an ota? I thought I saw that somewhere
Yep rooted and romed. I dont want to say which one because u don't think it matters. Non of it would bother me so much if my new phone wasn't slower than my old one. Kinda sucks to have full signal but can't load a Page, stick it in my pocket it becomes a hand warmer and the battery is dead next time I use it.

The worst is when I play Sega's Sonic Adventure app or open up stumble upon and every single time I go back to the home screen, sense has to reload. I've never experienced that with my Xoom.
Are the ROMs effective at fixing the multitasking issue? That, ps3 bluetooth, and otg support would be the only major reasons I'd root my phone (maybe titanium backup too for contingency). I'm not root shy, my OG EVO was rooted two weeks after I got it, but, in the long run, everything seems more consistent when running completely stock, and I can pretty much find an app for everything I need.
Also, do you guys think that if we send in enough complaints that HTC would get its act together for the jelly bean update?

You've just identified one of the most critical and key flaws with Android when it's provided by the carriers and not by Google themselves.

Return it, get a Gnex on Verizon. Problem solved.
I'll also have to agree that rooting and. A custom rom still don't do much to alleviate the issue. Chrome still reloads every time I come back. It's baffling because we can blame it on sense, but sense has ALWAYS been bloated, but the evos before this didn't have such an issue. I was saying I didn't want a gsiii, but this may push me to get one

I don't find sense 4 very bloated at all actually. When sense 4 was ported over to the Sensation, it didn't have this multitasking issue, which is leading me to believe that there will be a fix soon for it.

I don't quite understand. You don't have to flash, customize, or tinker with your phone at all. How much time you spend doing this is up to you. The phone works fine out of the box which is what you'll get with iPhone. If you want to get rid of bloat, then root it and remove the stuff you don't want.

Solution might be to find a ROM and stay with it, keep in mind flashing and or using custom ROMs are not for everyone, if you enjoy learning and bettering your knowledge and device well then it's the ticket for you, but if you find things are not working for you and you have hard time understanding, then maybe flashing custom ROMs are not your game...
There is nothing wrong with staying Stock and or Stock straight out of the box, as stated some have found that best for them.
Thank You.
Just go with iPhone we done anybody waffling back and forth. Goodbye!

That being said, I have always had issues with Paranoid Android... either on my Note and on my Nexus S. I would suggest the ROM in my signature. I love it. Lots of features, stable and smooth. But in the end, everyone tries many ROMs before settling one one that works best for them. Happy flashing!
I'll give a bunny to anyone that helps.

I really don't want to get an iPhone again. I got rid of the 4S 64GB factory unlocked. It's like an ipod with some phone functionality, meaning I cant use it for much. I have Tmobile and this particular phone for various reasons and the root is very necessary.
I would prefer someone help. It's obvious something I'm flashing or how I am flashing it is borking the phones. Most likely the latter.
Wipe cache, wipe system, wipe Dalvik before flashing. Or follow the instructions on the ROM page's first few posts.
Bye crapple
@dubsteps what signature? There isn't one showing on your posts.

Drama queen. No one told you that you need to flash ROMs. Get the iPhone and please go "complain" on the iPhone forums. Roms are free and devs are taking their "own" time out of their personal lives to make em. If you can't be thankful, you don't deserve to be here.

No way I'd ever go to an iPhone again. I don't like being told what I am allowed to do with something I bought. Don't get me started on that though. IPhone is what you use until you know better, kinda like people used to use AOL until they learned more about the internet. We have several nice ROMs to pick from

I got the old one on stock rom stock recovery. Its the same, very unresponsive. It takes 5 minutes just to set the language on the att start screens. The other phone is balking at connections with odin, im trying to put in only a bootloader and its got a green bar but the big area says BOOT is not changing color yet, like its at the last step and it stopped. Its odin 1.85 since the newer ones seemed worse.
edit:
I got the old phone going, I think its fixed! I flashed the stock rom via odin thats on the forums. I used stock recovery to clear a couple caches. Then flashed cwm standard, from march or so, I used it to clear everything possible except sd card which was recently formatted as well but it has roms now. I flashed a nice safe collective mesosphere seraphim ics rom and its snappy and responsive. I think there is something wrong with some newer things, I dont know what, but I had no problems before I started with JB. fyi, bricking two phones is not normal for me.
The new phone wont talk to odin so it'll sit for a minute.
Going no where with this, so...
