Specific CSC mandatory? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've searched a while through the forum to find an answer to my question. Maybe someone can point me to the correct thread, if my question was already asked.
Last week i have flashed my S3 with Omega Rom 12 and the phone works very well. There are no problems at all but i'm curious about the CSC topic. The Rom has CSC EUR (CSC: BLF1 - set be default to EUR), also *#272*<your phone IMEI># says "EUR" (which stand for Greece, afaik). But i'm using my phone in Germany in the BASE/E-PLUS network, APN entries are correct, Internet, phone and sms does work. At starting the phone, all settings were right after selecting country and provider.
So, is it mandatory to use a CSC specific for Germany or is it save to stay at EUR?

No its mandatory .......some time some custom rom is def CSC......
but if u found ur CSC install it.....

Moved to Q/A, the dev section is for development, not questions

NOT MANDATORY
CSC is not a requirement for the phone to work .
See the Guide on page one .

Not mandatory but if you do not use the right CSC you will loose:
-right fast dormancy setting for your carrier
-HD voice activation if your carrier support it
Not a big deal for some people but could be important for others...

not mandatory as long as you run into some sort of problem, i have used my phone without any csc for months.

Thanks for your feedback. I assumed, that it is not mandatory, but i wasn't quite sure. My rom has a tool named Fast Dormancy built in and it shows, that FD is enabled, but how the settings are i have to find out. But till now, I have this phone just a week and everything works fine. Mainly using Wifi and GSM/EDGE. Next week i have 3G only again, will see, what happens.
Every new phone produces a lot of new questions until it is completely explored.

So for an I9300, i can flash any damn stock rom as long as i get my model number correct? I'm from Singapore and i can flash a rom from Jamaica?

it's only mandatory if you want to receive and OTA or update through KIES, if your using ODIN and or CWM to flash roms then you never really have to worry about CSC's.

I9300 rom on any i9300
Modems interchangable .kernels interchangable .
The key word is International .

[Q] Any advantage in upgrading CSC on the phone?

Hi guys,
I'm wanted to ask some questions since I still have some doubts after grinding the forum threads.
I purchased an unlocked SGS2 in UK and I live in Portugal.
The phone is currently rooted and running Cognition 1.5 based on KH3.
While checking CSC version I found that it's still on version XEU KD1.
MY questions are:
Is there any technical advantage in upgrading CSC to a later version?
Is it worthwhile or safe enough to upgrade to a different CSC region like OXA KH3 for example, and still retain all usability of the phone in my current region?
If portugal CSC code is TPH, why is it that with a XEU CSC it's working perfectly with my current portuguese providers?
Is there a way to upgrade CSC by CWM Recovery or can I only upgrade it via Odin?
Thanks for any tips and pointers you guys may have for me.
Regards from Portugal
1) apn settings.
2) it's safe and does not sffect usability of the phone
3) because phone autonatically picks the apn settings for you.
4) you can do it on both.
No point changing if it all works, csc is just apn settings and any bundled apps.

Thanks for the answers guys.
I decided to go ahead and flash it just for the fun of it.
Flashed CSC via ODIN to OXA KH3 and everything is working fine. Wiped my settings but was expecting that so no biggie.
Thanks sent to both.

[Q] Is it safe to flash a ROM with a different CSC

Hey,
I live in the UK and bought by S3 new on ebay, which is unbranded and an international version (i believe). The box said Orange France, however i havnt had any problems using it with my UK SIM. The jelly bean update has just been released through kies for the UK version of the S3, and i was just wondering what effect flashing this ROM using ODIN would have on my phone?
i downloaded the ROM from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1902493
Thanks
CSC is nothing bar a few text files that enable auto network APN .
It will make no difference but will be more up todate with its network connections list .
jje
Ah right, thanks. so its should actually be better then seeing as i'm flashing the UK firmware to it.
Play store services are not all available worldwide - and some are country-region specific- but as long as you have a western european CSC you're fine....
Sorry for digging up an old thread but it covers exactly what i'm after
There's no official release for 4.1x for Australia yet, P5110 16gb WiFi only
what other stock ROM's will be suitable to ensure my play store, etc will all operate without an issue.
Thanks in advance

Lol, well ok, I would advise sticking with your CSC but you can always try other Roms and flash back to yours. As you are Wi-Fi only you won't have any of the recent modem issues that have been present across several Samsung devices

No CSC does not matter its not required to make a phone work .
But that's relevant to the I9300 range your phone may or may not be the same .

I'm sorry to break into this post, but i have the same question.
I live in Italy, but i bought an international Galaxy S3 with Romania CSC and i wish to stick with the ITV csc code.
I tried to flash, but it breaks OTA/kies Updates (that's not bad at all... my firmware is still XXEMC2, March 2013 with i9300QXFMEA2 csc (info taken with *#1234#).
I've also read that double flashing changes the CSC code...i tries this procedure with no results (csc still COA)
Can you please give me some tips?
Tips read the stickied basic faqs and guides .
Make your mind up to upgrade via OTA/ Kies or XDA not both .

T-mobile UK Firmware

Short story
Can someone please point me to the T-mobile UK firmware?
Long story
I used Odin to flash Multipackage XXLH3 ROM for s5830i by Alucard1989pl
Since then I've had lots of issues with phone network.
For some reason my phone only connects to a network called EE.
Also when I search for available networks it doesn't show T-mobile.
Big thanks in advance for getting back to me. My GF is trying to kill me for messing her phone up. :crying:
try this one to see if sim can connect to T-Mobile...
GT-S5830i Hungary (T-mobile) 2012 November 2.3.6 S5830IXXLK3 S5830ITMHLI1
Firmware Download
Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't T-Mobile and Orange combined their networks and are now known as EE?
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app
For some reason Odin keeps giving me a "fail" when I try to flash that ROM.
@N8trix You're right. But still having network issues since flashing that CSC, PDA and PHONE.
Also somehow all 200 sim contacts were wiped.
Would just like to stock the phone. Kies firmware restore feature isnt working at all.
Sorry about the lack of detail right now. At work.
Are you sure you have S5830i. Maybe 5839i or a plain 5830. Or may be a different phone. Can you verify your model?
Do you want an empty life, or a meaningful death?

[Q] Choosing stock firmware confusion

Hello,
I live in Pakistan and I just got my Galaxy S3 Gt-i9300 and it had Saudi Arabian warranty in it so I guess it's from Saudi Arabia. I rooted and flashed custom ROM in it now I wanna revert back to stock firmware but when I select Gt-i9300 on sammobile for downloading stock ROM then I there's a box called "Country", I'm confused about this part, Idk what to select..
Here are the questions that I wanna know answers of:
Does international Gt-i9300 got different rom for different countries?
Is there possibility for bricking my device if I select different country but Gt-i9300 rom?
And last question, what country do I choose now?
Thanks!

yes. different firmwares for different countries. CSC changes from region to region. there is no risk of bricking if you flash a different firmware. check the details under about phone and google for the similar ones. good luck

you can basically choose any firmware from any country. It is recommended though, if you run into problems, to flash your stock firmware (your country & carrier) (e.g. you can run a UK version in the US as long as it is for the I9300). In addition a second part is about modems, which again, you can use any modem of any country, whereas usually modems from your region will work best.
To see different firmwares etc. have a look at sammobile, there you can filter for your country, carrier, model etc.

[Q] Problem with my baseband and CM10.1 4.2.2

Hello, first to say I'm from Spain and I don't speak English very good, but I'll try to do my best.
I have a GT-I9100 with CyanogenMod 10.1 (Android 4.2.2), baseband I9100XXLS8 (when I instaled 4.1.2) and Orange Spain.
My problem is when I am using mobile data, full signal, my phone often doesn't connect to the internet. I talked with a friend and he told me that I have to research how to change my baseband to the best for my android version and mobile operator. Can you help me? Tell me how to do it? Wich baseband version to use and where to find it?
If you don't understand something or you need me to tell you some other data, just ask and I'll try to do it my best.
Thanks,
Efalgae.
Just search for veyka, and google what can go wrong with flashing anything.
Read about nand/efs backups/odin pc setup/cwm and mobile odin.
Or you can just do what most of the impatient/lazy clowns on here do and flash a modem and pray nothing goes wrong.
-------------------------------------------
maybe your an iphone expert
------------------------------------------
Now then, you could sit here & hope someone who uses your carrier reads your thread & suggests a modem to test, and that may or may not happen. You could spend ages doing Google/XDA searches trying to find a modem that works with your carrier, or you could do the following (And I assume you mean mobile data sometimes works, sometimes doesn't ?) which could solve your problem sooner rather than later:-
Go to Samfirmware, find the stock roms released by your carrier. Start with the most recent one. Work out which modem is bundled with that stock rom (It lists Product Code/PDA/CSC/MODEM for each firmware when you click the link), do an XDA or Google search for that modem, flash it with CWM & test it. If that doesn't improve your connectivity, try the modem bundled with the stock rom released before the most recent one, test. And so on until you find one that works. Hopefully the modem bundled with your carrier's most recently released stock rom works for you tho; you'd expect they'd test it to ensure it works for most people most of the time & in most places with their network.
Whatever you do, don't flash any RIL's unless you've tried every single modem (including those bundled with stock roms released by other carriers & even in other countries; there are dozens), only flash a RIL as a last resort.
If mobile data never works, check the APN settings in settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/access point names Vs the APN settings on your carrier's website (Actually, double check these anyway even if you end up testing modems as above).
Thanks to all.
Because I have no patience, I decided to flash last official firmware released by Orange Spain, found in SamMobile.
I flashed it, flashed CWM again, and CM 10.1 again.
Seems to work perfectly.
Anyway, thanks again to yor answers
And...yes, my mobile data was workin sometimes and sometimes not.
