try installing armv7 neon codec from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.ffmpeg.v7_neon&feature=more_from_developer
but i don't think this will solve the problem because a 2 GHz CPU is not enough to play full hd video
so why my S2 with the same CPU and GPU can play full hd?

the video is decoded in two ways:1-in hw mode using dsp (vpu) not gpu, s2 can decode full hd but sola can decode only hd
2-in sw mode using the cpu, obviously sola cant play smoothly full hd with its 2 ghz cpu, but i dont know if s2 can play smoothly full hd with its 2.4 ghz cpu, especially high profile high level videos like one downloaded from youtube, you can try that and tell me the result
i can play full HD by my S2 with both SW & HW.
so is it posible to play fullhd with SOLA by overclocking its cpu?

If you’re unsure of whether your phone’s processor supports NEON or not, download the app Explorer (or any other file manager) from the Play Store (Android Market) and install it on your phone. Then, open Explorer (or any other file manager), go into the proc folder, then click on the cpuinfo file (and select Text Viewer if given the option). In the cpuinfo file, check whether it says neon in the Features line as shown in screenshot below.
download explorer from here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.explorer

i think u should install armv7 neon codec as a last resort

i think full hd video needs at least quad core cpu to play smoothly on a smartphone
so,i guess there is no way to play full hd video on sola
xperia p and s can decode full hd video in hw mode although they have the same chipset as sola because they have dual dsp unlike sola which i guess has single dsp which can only decode hd video high [email protected] 3.1 with 4 ref frames, it cant even decode hd video high [email protected] 4 with 4 ref frames, thats very stupid from the company, but i guess the 2 ghz cpu with neon can decode hd video high [email protected] 5.1 with 4 ref frames like this sample:

the avc codec has 3 profiles: baseline, main, high most videos now are high profile
each profile ranges from level 1.3 to 5.1, most hd videos are either 3.1 or 4 or 4.1 or 4.2
the number of ref frames ranges from 1 to 16, most videos have from 1 to 8 frames max, the default is 4
so a typical hd video is high [email protected] 4 with 4 ref frames
if u increase the level and number of ref frames, the video becomes more complex and more difficult to play smoothly or doesnt play at all in case of hw decoding or plays slowly in case of sw decoding
for example xperia sola supports max hd avc [email protected] with 4 ref frames , but doesnt support level 4 with 4 frames
if u want to know the specs of video files download an app called (media info) from here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainfo/files/binary/mediainfo-gui/0.7.59/MediaInfo_GUI_0.7.59_Windows_i386.exe/download
u mean u can play it smoothly in sw and hw in s2 or sola?

Happens that, in my Atrix with Stock Rom With the Latest OTA, when i download a 720p mp4 video with the Keepvid app, The system player simply says that it cant play it. if i download the normal version, without 720p it works. i've searched for it here and other forums and it says about of the video encoding being H.264. then they reached the conclusion that tegra 2 cant decode it natively... okey, but i went to the acer iconia tab of my brother who has the same tegra 2, and it played the 720p flawlessly, with the stock player! the same video! it cant be hardware if that worked.. do anybody know if this is just disabled in stock? or maybe a feature of Android 3.0+ ? Thanks in advance

If these videos are HQ videos, then the problem is caused by the lack of OMX codecs for your device (armV6 on ICS lacks these codecs).

Thx for your earlier reply. So how can i upgrade that code or any solution for that?
the lag is because hq videos use divx codecs which is found on higher end phones........no way of upgrading it....google search for supported codecs for your device.it will be in spec list...then convert it the res supported by your device(also found in spec list) it will 320x240 like this....and choose your device's codecs using format factory or any other video converters...copy it to your device and enjoy

Qualcomm has not released the codecs for armV6 instruction set devices running ICS (because of incompatibility), so there is no way to update them.

Its probably not the phone problem, but the default video player's decoding problem. Install Mobo Player or MX Player and change between software decoding and hardware decoding to see if that helps.
I don't know what to say about the CPU, probably some marketing trick by whoever manufactured the phone. Its also possible the app you are using is incorrect

great that it worked!...for a while
the difference is huge i agree
300mhz more CPU power doesnt seems that much but it is and you can see it.
i think setting it to the performance governor also made some difference.
also you dont want the CPU clock to be all over the place as it was before (from 200-1000mhz)
there seems to be some problem with SuperSu when its ask for permissions all the time.
when that happends and you are in a movie you will get the lag back even if SetCPU has permision.
you need to change some settings in SuperSu.

no need to use 1700mhz
that will kill your battery and also higher the risk of thermal throttling for the CPU.
(the CPU clocks down when it gets to hot)
set it to 1300mhz max and 1200mhz min instead.

FYI, the Samsung manual on the Exynos 5 processor in our tablet gives a full list of its hardware decoding capabilities for video. According to the manual it only supports 4.2 profiles and not the much more common 4.1 profiles. It also does not support .mkv files, but not sure if that matters since MKV is just a container and not the codec. But this could be why it isnt using full GPU hardware decoding capabilities of many movies and instead uses so much CPU power:

I tried this trick on Plex too to see if I could minimize the buffering that I've been plagued with. It seemed to help a good amount. There was still some pausing but it happened less often and was of MUCH MUCH MUCH shorter duration (like half a second to one second) and much less intrusive to the watching experience.
Thanks for the tip!

whats is Plex ?
Home media server kind of thing. Run a plex server on a desktop, run the plex app on your tablet and watch your movies, etc. I think part of our buffering problem is a recent change in the setup of the hard drives storing our media files, which we are going to try fixing, but still, set CPU seemed to make things better.

If you read the H.264 wiki, it seems that Levels correspond to supported resolution and frame rate maximums. So all 4.1 encodings should be supported on a 4.2. The BP / MP / HP mean Baseline Profile / Main Profile / High Profile. All different types of encodings.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC#Levels
MKV is a wrapper. It may never be supported on the built in video player, but all 3rd party (MX Player/BS Player etc) can easily demux the core video data for hardware decoding.

Had it on userspace gov. Trying performance now. Also, wouldn't it seem more logical (to eliminate switching altogether), to set it to 1300/1300?

I would not change global SuperSU settings to "grant" instead of "ask".
I configured "grant" and "no notification" for SetCPU and for the ProfilesService instead.
BTW, 1300/1300 also works good for the TimeScape video.
I am really glad someone else finally saw the not-smoothness in video playback. Or maybe some N10 can play smooth without this trick...
Will you inform the BSplayer developers about this? Maybe they can now do something, so that SetCPU is not necessary?
Seems like it may be helping YouTube buffering as well. Need to do some more testing with that.

lol i think they read this
once you have set your profile you dont need to bother with it..so no problem here if its not fixed in BSplayer.
maybe they can fix it but then you probably need root anyway.
i think all N10s perform the same so its no chance you can get this smooth playback with the default setting.

I'd be looking for something more in the range of 54FPS+ as we progress further with development.
We should be looking at good 3D performance with 11FPS in NenaMark2
Running AnTuTu on a FerVolt kernel is slower than watching glaciers move, but that aside, AnTuTu returns 4992 (998MHz Performance/Deadline)
AnTuTu benchmarks are not always seem as good form in a development thread, but they do lay down a general indicator which can be useful for tracking the likes of 2D, 3D and I/O changes as development progresses.

AnTuTu rebooted on 3D graphics when clocked at 1190MHz so just used 998MHz (performance/deadline)
In general activities, the screen responses seemed smooth, and application load time was quick. No WLOD during my 1hour meet and greet with CM10.
Didn't test any video playback as my video players wanted Google Play installed to verify licences and etc.
Will have another look when WiFi is enabled.

Hi, thanks for te report, this is realy useful , however we are woking on the base without any tweak or so, sothe main goal is to have full hardware support, like camcorderhwa etc... about the lag of the kernel and performences its cause we USE ION memory managemnt inside this new kernel and its not stable yet, i will remake another build when i will fix those problems, now i need only hwa tests for this, 720p videos pleas test and report, as this om thread is made for one big objective, android 4.4 Kitkat, so i want to have a good base heare to work on kitkat with improved source code
cheers

I confirm 720p videos works without problem. I test it with mxplayer
Sent from my Xperia X10 using xda app-developers app
maybe a little bug for me that DU meter does not count any internet data usage, also onavo counter and so many apps for counting data usage does not give me any reports ... BUT :
720p videos playback works good, also apps responding is very fast especially in browsers & facebook, overall performance is faster and more responsive than previous builds .
thank you Achotjan, also thanks to Fera, for your hard work and for keeping our x10 alive.
Video time.

I installed the ROM again and tested known working mp4 and mkv 720p videos and none of the ones I have played in CM10 TrollXperia
Feravolt very kindly supplied a reference to a Yosemite 720p mp4 video which became a defacto benchmark for GB 2.3 FeraKernel development/testing.
Video: MP4 H.264(AVC1) 30fps 1280x720(HW acc)
Audio: AAC (44.1KHz) 2 ch
The Yomsemite video could not be played on CM10 TrollXperia in either MX Player Pro nor BSPlayer
Maybe @FeraVolt could graciously provide a link to the Yosemite video again as that was a good video and could be watched over a few times without undue stress to the viewer and then multiple testers have at least one common test video with a known format.
I also have many mkv(H.264,AC3) (6 audio channels) 25fps optimized '720p' videos which on GB 2.3 plays in HW+ (MX Player Pro) or HW (BSPlayer) mode and have good smooth playback.
Video: MKV H.264 25fps 720x576(HW acc)
Audio: AC3 (44.1KHz) 6 ch
None of my mkv optimized '720p' videos played on the current CM10 TrollXperia version using MX Player Pro nor BSPlayer
Google Play FPS2D is a pretty good bell weather for Hardware Acceleration. If you're not getting 54FPS or above then it's not operating at the level of well configured GB 2.3
The only video I could get to play was an optimized '720p' video, which normally only plays in sw mode anyway.
Video: MP4(AVC1) 24fps 1024x580(SW)
Audio: AAC (44.1KHz) 2 ch
The good thing is, that the audio and video sync. In some ROMs and video players the software encoding is to much for the CPU.
So... I can only surmise that Hardware Acceleration is not fully functional with all codecs using CM10 TrollXperia at this time.
As we can see HW acceleration does work with CM10 TrollXperia on some video formats
My daily is DooMKernel v6 and X10S v9 ROM
I have also used/tested FeraKernel xx.xx and X10S v9 ROM as well.
In the above two Kernels (DooMKernel and FeraKernel) all the above videos I tested work and play smoothly.
All the above videos also play on an XPERIA M and an XPERIA S without any problems, both of which are running JB 4.1.2
Can i dirty flash over CMX10 or i need a full wipe ?
