I was on AOKPCB and flashed neutrino.. before that I made a backup pf my apps through titanium and a nandroid backup before flashing.. unfortunately I was not able to restore apps and data from titanium.. especially whatsapp messages. So I sayd let's restore AOKCP, but unfortunately the MD5 Sum check fails somehow.. Does anybody know a workaround?
Use TWRP2 recovery instead of CWM or romracer. You won't have any problems switching Nandroids back and forth. I don't think it will restore previously corrupted backups, but it's worth the shot.

I also had this same problem and I copied the backups off my sd card to pc, formatted the card and put the backup back on and it then worked!

Hello, when i try backup my current default ROM, everything goes fine until it reaches .Android_secure and says "Error while making a bacup of /sdcard/.android_secure!"
No idea whats wrong.
I've tried backing up via the ROM manager and the Nandroid method.
Using ROM Manager to backup is a nandroid backup... the back up you're referring to is just the app data you had installed on your SD card. Perhaps you can choose to restore the other partitions but leave out the android secure image...
Edit: Oh, I misunderstood your post. You're trying to back up... well, you could move the apps you have on your SD card back to your phone and then create the backup. That will eliminate the need for the android secure image.

Okay well I just removed the files in .android_secure (backed up onto PC)
and now i get an error while making a backup image of /cache -.-.
..
I wasn't paying attention to CWM apparently when I was doing a restore and I think I started to partition my sd card. I did a dumb thing and pulled my battery before the process would finish.
Now, I want to go back and see if I can restore some files because I've lost my nandroids, pictures, etc. So...
Do I need to finish the partition?
If so, what size should I make? I don't care to format it for any special types.
Should file recovery programs work with this partial partition?
You're going to need to try data recovery software. That's your only hope for possible recovery.

Well, I was able to recover the nandroid from right before this all happened, but had an md5 mismatch. Is there anything I can do about that such as skipping the validation? Or do I have to try another program to see what I can grab?
A week ago,I flashed cwm touch recovery(1st time I install a custom recovery on my gs3) with odin.I decided to try out wanamlite so I made a nandroid backup of my ROM(stock 4.1.2) then flashed wanamlite.I had a titanium backup of my data so I could restore it on wanamlite but I forgot to put it on my pc before flashing and wiping data(silly I know lol) so I wanted to restore my nandroid backup so I could make another TB of my data but the restore wasn't successful.I got this error message in cwm touch ''error restoring /data !'' or smthin similar and I got in a bootloop.I tried flashing back stock ROM and wiping data(with sd card) then tried to restore the nandroid again, got the same error.I later found out that titanium backup can restore data from a nandroid.Anyways,I tried to make a backup using TWRP but when I tried to restore it,I got in a bootloop again...what could be the problem ? I never had this problem with my gs2...
TL;DR:restoring a nandroid backup gets me in a bootloop whether I use cwm touch or TWRP.
are you backing up to the internal?
have your tried backing up multiple times?

Yes I backed up to the internal sd card.I backed up once with cwm and TWRP.Btw,when I tried restoring I had to move the backup from pc to phone because I did a full data wipe and the backup was gone(in both times) if that makes any difference.I have made sure the backup was the same size when I moved it to and from my pc.
Did you enable MD5 check? Could it be files damage to cause unsuccessful boot up?

No but why would they be damaged ? and why would it happen TWICE ? anyways,I will try again now with md5 check.
UPDATE:tried out with md5 checking, didn't get any errors but I still got into bootloop :/
if you didn't turn md5 on Before backing up, there's no md5 to compare to, hence no errors.

It is not,in fact I don't even have an external sd card.I did format everything before trying to restore.
Ok. so i was thinking about installing some custom roms and using them for a few days weeks to see how they perform but i was wondering what the best way to back up my apps/data and contacts would be so they can easily be restored after i have installed a new rom.
I dont have a memory card for my phone so i just have the 16gb internal memory so if i use an app that saves the backup to my phone would i just transfer the backup data from my phone to pc then after i have factory reset/wiped the cache and dalvik and intalled the rom put the backup file back on?
Also is there anything i NEED to back up on the phone or is it just the stuff i want like app data and contacts?
Thanks.
titanium backup
thank you.
Because i will be factory reseting the phone before i install the new rom will i need to move the titanium backup from my phone to computer?
will the reset and wipe delete the backup?
Use as said titanium for data and apps and gmail for contacts sync. You can copy the titanium files to your computer just in caseto be safe.

Just remember that if you wipe sd and you don't have external, then you won't have a Rom to flash to so you will be left with choice of either pushing the zip to sd with ADB, or flashing stock/rerooting/cwm/etc
R: Best way to backup?
Yeah man try to keep it simple...
just make a full backup with titanium backup pro (set backup folser to external sd card or just move the backup to the sd card when its done) it will require a lot of space if u had a lot of apps...
Flash all you want and put the new rom on the phone.
Then remember to have the titanium backup apk ready on your sdcard to be installed when ure done setting up the new rom(or go get it back off the play store if you wish), then install titanium and restore from the backup folder...simple

1. Titanium Backup
2.Carbon
3.My Backup Pro
4.Nandroid backup from recovery if you ever want to go back to an old rom.
I rooted my new sgs3 i9350 and installed cwm. Do I need to do a backup? And how exactly do I do it. So new to all of this, thanks

You can use titanium backup for game save, app, message.. backup.
Cwm recovery/backup and restore/ choose wether you want to backup to internal or external sd (I suggest external)....this will basically make a complete system image that you can restore if anything goes wrong, also backup your efs and copy backups to computer.
Backup user apps and system with Titanium as well.
