Ok. so i was thinking about installing some custom roms and using them for a few days weeks to see how they perform but i was wondering what the best way to back up my apps/data and contacts would be so they can easily be restored after i have installed a new rom.
I dont have a memory card for my phone so i just have the 16gb internal memory so if i use an app that saves the backup to my phone would i just transfer the backup data from my phone to pc then after i have factory reset/wiped the cache and dalvik and intalled the rom put the backup file back on?
Also is there anything i NEED to back up on the phone or is it just the stuff i want like app data and contacts?
Thanks.
titanium backup
thank you.
Because i will be factory reseting the phone before i install the new rom will i need to move the titanium backup from my phone to computer?
will the reset and wipe delete the backup?
Use as said titanium for data and apps and gmail for contacts sync. You can copy the titanium files to your computer just in caseto be safe.

Just remember that if you wipe sd and you don't have external, then you won't have a Rom to flash to so you will be left with choice of either pushing the zip to sd with ADB, or flashing stock/rerooting/cwm/etc
R: Best way to backup?
Yeah man try to keep it simple...
just make a full backup with titanium backup pro (set backup folser to external sd card or just move the backup to the sd card when its done) it will require a lot of space if u had a lot of apps...
Flash all you want and put the new rom on the phone.
Then remember to have the titanium backup apk ready on your sdcard to be installed when ure done setting up the new rom(or go get it back off the play store if you wish), then install titanium and restore from the backup folder...simple

I want to format my sd card to remove sd-ext. However, I want to keep my apps and data, how can I do this?
Could I do a rom backup with clockwork and copy the backup onto my computer the put it back on my phone after I format? Will that restore my apps and data?
I have a lot of apps.

I want to wipe /sdcard and then to restore apps and data. So what I'll do:
1. Titanium Backup for all apps and data.
2. Wipe /sdcard.
3. Reinstall a fresh Titanium Backup.
But -- Titanium Backup is now fresh, so it doesn't have the apps and data backup I made earlier to restore from.
So the question is:
Does it suffice to copy the entire old Titanium Backup directory into the fresh (and empty) Titanium Backup directory?
Will the option 'restore missing apps with data' show all the stuff I backed up?
Mmm I did this when I moved to a custom JB rom. Like you said if you wipe sd card you will loose all the TB data. I'm not sure if you can move the TB folder to your pc then move it back after the wipe to restore your apps. I personally decided not to as I wanted to make sure I only had JB compatible apps on my phone as I was moving from an ICS rom. Perhaps other users have done this and can advise further.

I found the answer here
Helped a friend to root and install custom rom.
Basically the step i used
1) Root it with odin and cf-root
2) Root working, so i get titanium backup and run the backup
3) Factory reset and install Omega rom v37
4) failed to install, seem like i get the older version of cf-root. So i re install the cf-root
5) Install omega rom v37 and it worked
6) Install titanium backup. However, when i want to restore, seem all file missing. I scanned through whole device, cant find it too. The sdcard/titaniumbackup is an empty folder
Question
1) Could the backup file in sdcard0/titaniumbackup?
2) Why the backup will disappear by itself?
3) Factory reset/wipe cache/wipe ...cache will delete the backup, right?
4) Watapps backup disappear too?
5) Instagram pictures folder disappear too?
5) Any idea to get the backup back? Feel really sorry as lost my friend's data, please help me if there is a way to get the data back.
Thank you.
how did you do the factory reset? from the settings menu?
Yes, from the cwm menu.
And i did it just like what i did for the last 50 times

Yes, you factory reset, which wiped your internal sd, and you really should set titanium to save to external sd if you have one to avoid this happening again, and backup to pc before you start messing around
I never understand making backup on internal sd - think it would be good to advise user of TB after installing to change the folder at first. (If ext SD is present)
Do anybody backup PC on c:\ ??? Must be more complicated on a phone...

Click to collapse
So no chances to get the lost data back?
I rooted my new sgs3 i9350 and installed cwm. Do I need to do a backup? And how exactly do I do it. So new to all of this, thanks

You can use titanium backup for game save, app, message.. backup.
Cwm recovery/backup and restore/ choose wether you want to backup to internal or external sd (I suggest external)....this will basically make a complete system image that you can restore if anything goes wrong, also backup your efs and copy backups to computer.
Backup user apps and system with Titanium as well.
Hi,
I installed Greenify and hibernated some apps and thereafter the phone restarted on its own and is stuck in the RevoltJB logo screen.
I've tried almost everything, from taking the battery out, clearing dalvick cache and flashing the RevoltJB rom again but it's not booting.
I've made a nandroid copy to the Sd Card, system / app, data files say complete but then when it's backing up the music/videos/pics it fails. Not enough memory.
Does that mean that the nandroid backup of system apps (sms/call logs) and my sisters apps/data (whatsapp message history) haven't been backed up?
I also made a internal copy and that seemed to backup everything. Hardly any pics or music on internal memory, plus it had 8gb free.
Does that mean that both the internal and sd card backup the same things?? And can I factory reset and reinstall the RevoltJB rom and then using titanium backup get back her whatsapp messages, her sms and call logs not to mention her stupid level 50 candycrush data?
Please can someone tell me if I've been able to make a successful nandroid backup on either the sd (even if it only backed up system/apps) or internal memory and whether I have any chance of a recovery of her sms, whatsapp and candycrush data.
PS if i reinstall jb rom it won't delete my nandroid backup will it...?
Thank you for your replies in advance. I'm going crazy because she's in tears, so please can someone help me.

You don't need to worry much after making the nandroid backup you can safely wipe data/cache/dalvik cache and reflash the ROM, also along with TB try using the app nandroid manager to restore the apps, call logs, contact's etc. from the previous nandroid backup, and be careful to not format /sdcard partition its where all your data like your music, videos, nandroid backup, and other data is kept.
Hmmm seems you don't use your internal SD card much, and making a backup anywhere is not problem it will be the same thing done twice whether it be in the internal or the external SD card, just try to make a successful backup by freeing up some space, also if you have the patience to read a lot try using Aroma file manager to manually handle the required files like the contact database and stuff, though I would advice a noob to hold off until he's more experienced.

Stop being melodramatic. Bricked phones don't boot. At all
I think you froze a system app....look at @MistahBungle 's signature and read what it says.
Do a factory reset and a ROM reflash. This is the only thing you can do.And yes,all her messages and game data will be gone (you can maybe extract them manually from the Nandroid backup)
