720p videos lag on GT-P7510 running ICS - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Is anyone able to play 720p videos smoothly with the GT-P7510 running ICS? cause no matter what player I use.
The 720p videos lag way too much, but with Android 3.2 never really had such issues as the same 720p videos used to play fine.
Does ICS take more resources than Honeycomb?
Obviously would like to stick with ICS due to its features, but if it takes more resources than Honeycomb, that it doesn't even allow me to play 720p videos smoothly, then I will have to consider going sticking to Honeycomb, but 1st need your advice.
Thanks in Advance

Anyone alive?

Well, "720p videos" by itself simply isn't enough information to tell either way. What videos are you trying to watch (encoding, profile, bitrate) and which player do you use?
720p mp4s in standard h.264 high profile work just fine.

Well.. to answer that, all my 720p videos have been downloaded from youtube using tubemate.
Also as I explained before, these same 720p videos, play absolutely smooth with Honeycomb, but not with ICS.
I even installed the [Kernel] - 2.6.36.4 - OC-VFPv3-d16_FP 1.4GHZ - Galaxy Tab 10.1 (07/11/12), Overclocked it to 1.4Ghz, which became slightly smoother but the video was still laggy and noticeable.
Due to this, I reverted back to Honeycomb, and now all the videos play smooth again.

Try flashing to jellybean
I had the same problem with honeycomb.now totally smooth and totally cool.
The problem is with the tegra 2 chip inside.
It cannot play h.264 encoded videos.

Thanks for the reply guys, I killed all background apps, made no difference in the performance, also tried Jelly Bean, but has the same lousy performance as ICS, no difference.

Yes mate, I have also tried Dice player, with Hardware and software mode, also tried MX Player, no difference.

Ivan, can you post a link to a video that you're having a problem with?
No problems here so far, but I'll try one of yours and see if it plays ok here.

Now thats interesting, I have tubemate installed on my tablet that allows me to download any 720p videos from youtube, just do the same for a few videos, such as street fighter x tekken cinematic videos, also some music videos and test these please.
Let me know the results, and which rom, player and kernel you are using.
Thanks Mate, Much Appreciated

I had problems playing 720p+ mkv in both honeycomb and ics until i tried BS player. I'm hoping VLC will eventually surpass all the other media players. MX player works for me with software decoding enabled and DICE player works as well, with Hardware Accel.

all these players can't play videos properly ......I would recommend u to convert video into mp4 or avi using formatfactory for
PC .....once converted copy to ur tab and play using mx player or v player or stock ...........the resolution and bitrate
adjustments make videos look lot smoother and plays without any hookups ......always use high bitrate as it makes video more sharper and also vivid...........if u are a pro in video converting then use mediacoder hq for pc
HIT THANKS BUTTON IF I HAVE HELPED

This is happening to me too. Stock and Overcome Honeycomb, many H.264 videos play smoothly. Stock Samsung 4.0 and CM-9-2012-09-30, hardware acceleration is broken--either slow, or full of random misplaced blocks. These videos were specifically encoded for Tegra 2 devices. Let's pick an unobjectionable one:
Code:
mediainfo -f bun.mpg
Format : MPEG-4
File size : 292 MiB
Overall bit rate : 1 203 Kbps
Duration : 33mn 56s
Writing application : HandBrake 0.9.8 2012071800
So far, so good. Now for the video stream:
Code:
Format : AVC
Format profile : [email protected]
Format settings : CABAC / 5 Ref Frames
Bit rate : 1 000 Kbps
Width : 1280
Height : 720
Frame rate mode : Variable
Minimum frame rate : 17.114 fps
Maximum frame rate : 29.970 fps
Writing library : x264 - core 120
Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=5 / deblock=1:1:1 / analyse=0x3:0x113 /
me=umh / subme=8 / psy=1 / psy_rd=0.40:0.00 / mixed_ref=1 /
me_range=16 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=1 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 /
deadzone=21,11 / fast_pskip=1 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=6 /
sliced_threads=0 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / interlaced=0 / bluray_compat=0 /
constrained_intra=0 / bframes=6 / b_pyramid=2 / b_adapt=2 / b_bias=0 /
direct=1 / weightb=0 / open_gop=0 / weightp=0 / keyint=300 /
keyint_min=30 / scenecut=40 / intra_refresh=0 / rc_lookahead=50 /
rc=2pass / mbtree=1 / bitrate=1000 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=3 /
qpmax=69 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / aq=1:0.60
You will note the weightp=0 and weightb=0.
So, no weighted prediction, bitrate below 2Mbps, Level 3.1. These are the specs Motorola gave for the Tegra 2 decode capabilities in the ATRIX 4G (and indeed the video plays fine there on CM 7.2 in HW+ mode in MX Player and BSPlayer.)
What may strike you as a little strong about this is ref=5 and bframes=6. (This is from the x264 tune=animation.) On the Tab 10.1 on ICS using MX Player or BSPlayer, the video in fact looks like intermediate frames are not being rendered correctly; flip to the menu and back and you get a bunch of black blocks being slid around by the motion compensation code. So I'm wondering if some amount of video texture resources (or something) got eaten up in the ICS accelerated drivers for the Tab 10.1, and nobody told the hardware engines. Perhaps 2D acceleration scribbles on the textures used for reference frames.
This is as annoying as hell. I knew when I bought a second Tegra 2 device I was going to have video problems, but I thought I had them all figured out. Unlike the ATRIX which gained capability when updated, the Tab 10.1 seems to have lost it.

Same problem on the 10.1V after the OTA update.
Where 3.2 played HQ youtube videos without any problem, 4.0.4 manages to destroy it. Un-believable.

After staring at this a while, I've noticed some problems back on 3.2 A few thoughts:
The items up there are the most suspicious to me.
2pass does a good job of saving up bits for the hard scenes. Peak bit rate could be a lot higher. When Motorola said 2Mbps, it's possible they implied a peak bit rate too.
Nothing except BSPlayer likes Variable Frame Rate very much, especially the aggressive way it gets used in some animation. I'd bet toggling between 24fps and 30fps would be OK. Stuff filmed at 25fps and mauled on the way to broadcast at 1080i 60 fields/sec drives HandBrake kinda crazy, and I can't say I blame it.
One particularly brutal thing seems to be heavily motion-vectored scenes. Those could also be ones with high use of bidirectional prediction and multiple reference frames, so a symptom, not a cause.
Where the symptom on 3.2 is slowness, 4.0 is just broken. It's possible 4.0 on the Tab 10.1 actually did improve frame rate, but bugs in the code made it unwatchable--and somebody flipped a switch to put it back in software mode in order to have *something* work.

Audio Issues
Hi all,
I am running CM10 4.1.1 Preview with Pershoots Kernel 2.6.36.4 on my Gt-7500
Before I upgraded, I was using the stock HC ROM that came on my tablet.
Using Ultimate media server on my PC, and Bubble UPNP and and Daroon player on the tablet, I was able to stream DVD's from my DVD-ROM via my WIFI to the tablet, and all was working quite well.
But ever since upgrading to CM10 experimental preview, there is no Audio playback on the video. I can play mp3's the same way no problem.
Does anyone have any idea as to the problem? Perhaps some audio codecs were left out?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Gtablet Video Issue

Hello All,
I am running CWM and TNTlite 4.40. I am having issues playing video on it.. I tried playing the videos that it came with and some on them it would play no problem with the standard video player that it came with.. Then i tried loading my videos thru USB or microsd and it has a LAG.. I converted the video from 2GB mkv to Mp4. i used Rockplayer and it does the same thing.. The audio is fine but the video has a delay. Not sure what is going on or if it is the firmware it self. Can someone shed some light.
thanks in advance
regards
cd
What is your video encoded at? If it's high profile H.264 you may have issues depending on resolution (and at 2GB, I'm guessing it's not a 480p video!)
A program called MediaInfo (free) will tell you how your video is encoded - if you see anything like "[email protected]", it's too much for the Tegra 2 chip to handle. It will do [email protected] with some tweaks to settings (like no p frames). One of my other posts (shold be able to search under my profile if you're really interested) has Handbrake settings for a good 720p video encode that runs like butter and isn't a space hog either.

HD Video

I can't for the life of me get this to work i have this 1080p AAC/MP4 harry potter movie- works fine on my laptop and desktop- but wont play on this tablet.
Initially when I got the tablet i was excited and installed the gtabcomb rom (for 1.1) this was AWESOME, but obviously no hd video support (which is really what I am after...)
Ive tried CM7, Gtab TNT lite 4.40, Calkulins, and im about to try the vegan rom.
I have the 1.1 boot loader.
Ive tried like 5 different video players, none have worked except for the software decoding on rockplayer... HOWEVER this was 10 fps, and distorted.
What do I do here? I really want decent hd video.
Thanks!
EDIT: Vegan is clear and the audio is working properly all with the default player BUT the FPS is less than 15...
Now what ?
What player have you tried? For me, between qqplayer, mvideoplayer, and arcmedia, I can play just about everything under the sun.
:<
Going to try some other players now, i will make a list.
strangely - after having the video work (sort of ) in the vegan default player... I tried rock player again.
That fails- when i click hardware decode it just flashes and goes back to the video list... software decode does nothing... just black screen.
SO i uninstalled it.
And now the default vegan player doesn't work at all- just says " can't player this video" (or something like that).
So frustrating
EDIT:
Rock Player : Clear video but 15fps or lower, audio but jumpy.
QQ - Clear video imagery but 15fps or lower, no audio.
ARCMedia - Choppy video at 15ps or lower, choppy techoy - audio....
mVideo - "Cannot player this video" (exiting... then im back at the video list much like the default app)
Try moboplayer, but I dont think the gtablet can do 720p or 1080p unless properly encoded specifically for the gtablet - not powerful enough (ie stuttering).
Same
Mobo player with soft decoding works but still 15fps or lower.
What is the absolute best container, format for a 1080p file to be encoded?
Moboplayer plays almost everything I throw at it with very little stuttering while streaming from my home network using UPnPlay but the audio from the gtab is way to low. When I plug in headphones the volume is OK.
I have gone into sound settings on the gtab and the set device volume is always at 50% even after I increase it to 100%.
Suggestions?

Weird. My gtab's sound is the loudest out of the tablets I have available to me (ipad, iconia, and transformer).
Froyo
Are you running Froyo? Had the same problem until I upgraded to honeycomb. Now its nice and loud.
I thought there was absouletly no HD video support in HC :/ Is it possible to get smooth, quality 1080p playback with 1.1 BL + HC (I guess Gtabcomb?)
And how?! DO WANT!
:/
It would seem that even the stock rom does not play my video Guess it might just be the damn video lol.
Media info is saying MP4 container, h264 and acc audio.
:/
zzz
Someone please tell me what is going on, I can't imagine everyone is using these tablets without any video support...
I nvflashed to 1.2 BL - stock. bone stock, no new apps nothing.
and then i downloaded some trailers from here
http://www.h264info.com/clips.html
Now, the damn viewsonic site even says this the gtablet supports these:
S1080p H.264/H.263/ VC-1/MPEG-2/4/WMV9/DiVX 4/5 Video Decode, 1080p H.264/MPEG-4 Video Encode, Supports multi-standard audio formats, including AAC, AMR, WMA, and MP3
AND- the video (for instance the serenity hd dvd trailer on that page above) is:
Video Codec: H.264
Trailer Resolution: 720p (1280x720), High Profile (Xbox 360 Compatible)
Audio Codec: AAC LC
Resolution: Stereo, 48 kHz, VBR 128 Kbps
Why is that not playable?! I tried multiple other formats and nothing works...
I want to see this device in an out of the box way play hd video as it suggests... i can can't it?
Really frustrated, spent 4 hours tonight flashing pretty much every 1.1 rom and then nv flashing to 1.2 and flashing like 4 different 1.2 roms (including illuminate, which looked really promising but just gets stuck and the "Illuminate Android" screen...
Flash videos player (snotr.com) but youtube.com videos do not. (error occured).
EDIT: Just managed to get VitalPlayer installed (downloaded apk on computer and installed) - plays all of the above videos BUT still they are terribly slow frame rates... what am i doing wrong?
So encoding in MPEG-4 makes everything work... smaller file sizes, smooth frame rates... AAC audio seems good too.
Set bitrate at 4000 and I guess this is how ill have to do everything :/
I am currently running C&C 1.5 v6.
Streaming over UPnPlay.
Most .avi files play ok using the stock movie player - sound and picture
When I try the same file with Mobo the volume goes way down.
When I press the volume button up the on screen volume indicator gose from 50% to 100%, but there is very little change in the volume. The gtab volume indicator does not appear.
When I go back to gtab settings the volume has gone from 100% to 50%.
I have gone into the UPnPlay settings and switched between volume and volume DB with no change.
Look i know your trying to help but if you had read a single thing I have posted
* I HAVE NO ISSUES WITH VOLUME *
Just trying to get an hd video (preferably 1080p) to play at a decent frame rate (23.976+).
Thus far no h264 video works... they are all 15fps or lower.
I have found that a 720p h264 re encoded to mpeg4 @ 4000 kbps does play smooth.
However a 1080p h264 re encoded to mpeg4 @ 4000 kbps is (better than just h264) still sluggish, and the audio doesn't quite sync up.
I really just want to know what video container/codec will work best on a stock 1.2 BL T&T Rom.
I was replying to roberto188 regarding my ROM.
Didn't mean to hi-jack thread, I was just sharing my experiences and looking for help.
Well apologies accepted I am sorry for my mini-rage, just really frustrated trying to get some hd videos working on the thing.
Seems I am just going to have to deal without them...
No worries.
For what it is worth, I just switched to GtabComp 3.2 and the audio issues disappeared.

Try using this to convert your videos for the gTablet. http://dvdvideosoft.com/download/FreeVideoToAndroidConverter.exe
It's free and it has a setting for the Viewsonic Viewpad 10 (1024x600, 1.5Mbps, 128kbps AAC, 48khz, standard quality) and they play perfectly on my Caulkulin+Clemsyn Combo v6 (Froyo).
Thanks will do! I found that mpeg seems to work best but i def got hw acceleration working with caulkulin+clemsyn combo not sure if h264 is working but at least the videos are clear and crisp - I will see about this software thanks!
edit:
FYI Just tried the program, it converts them to mpeg-4 anyway just does it really clean, and faster than handbrake.
Good find TY!!!
so does this mean that when ViewSonic says the Gtablet can play 1080p....are they really saying if you convert your existing movie file into another format with different bit rates and special settings then the Gtablet can play 1080P?
My daily driver will do 250 mph and use no gas.......if I push it out of an airplane....

Edit: Diceplayer and ES filemanager is a nice combo, plays mkv via wifi very nicely
Limitations
1. S5PC11x Chipset can play 720p(h.264 high profile)
2. Tegra 2 based phone can not play H.264 high profile clip.
3. Froyo Galaxy S/Tab can not play movie. Gingerbread is required.

Can someone check the playback of the following video clips, using Diceplayer? These clips are taken from this thread here. This is what the OP of that thread says:
This is a survey to see how well current tablets can play 720p and 1080p H.264 movies. Attached below are 6 sample clips from Avatar, each is of the same scene, encoded in H.264 high/main/baseline profile and 720p/1080p resolution. Please try all clips.
I've selected Avatar since it is full-frame and requires more bits than a normal wide-screen movie. This particular sequence is very high action, and serves as a worst-case test. (For playback, please minimize system load by closing down other running apps.)
http://mediafire.com/?15ec78k8s57db1z 1280 high MP4
http://mediafire.com/?pylvj2fa9kzynh2 1280 main MP4
http://mediafire.com/?9uk4z06ig651x3u 1280 baseline MP4
http://mediafire.com/?ge1nwgd5003s3ak 1920 high MP4
http://mediafire.com/?8aarftw6r499dga 1920 main MP4
http://mediafire.com/?7yqwhma8yhrhusq 1920 baseline MP4
The above video 1280 high profile play just fine with stock player. Android 3.1 handle highprofile mp4 with the right spec.
The 1920 highprofile freeze my tab and only gets audio. And when do people want to play 1080p? Better to use 720p with good quality and bitrate.
The thing that's stand out with diceplayer is that you can play .mkv.
It Evan plays videos with dts.
If you want use to test and see different between diceplayer and stock you should upload videos that don't run on stock player
Have tried some highprofile mkv and its almost ok, for the most time it runs smoothly, but sometimes the picture hangs, studder.
It's almost there but it don't reach all the way, hopes that we will see updates so the playback gets better.
Also think that mp4 baseline and other video plays smoother in movie's when there is alot of movement and panning.

Same here, it opens, sits for a second, then closes.
Works pretty well with these ([email protected] AC3) TV shows that I download. Not bad since Mobo couldn't play these smoothly. Video has some hiccups but audio is smooth.
Downloaded a sample video ([email protected] DTS) and there was no video. Then the file stopped playing half way through (27 seconds in).
But I don't watch movies on my tablet anyway, only TV shows. And this seems to work great. Let's see if it'll be able to stream the TV shows smoothly. Thanks OP!
This plays my 720p x264 mkvs perfectly. Fantastic find, Doc, thanks.

Ahh finally, since neither stock nor mobo could play my .mkv's (tv series) this is godsend.
I'm running HC 3.1 & TW.
Got Diceplayer playing back a 720p .MKV file (not sure if it was high profile or not) - not buttery smooth but better than anything else I've seen so far on HC3.1
Got a couple of questions, I was wondering if anyone can answer...
1) Diceplayer claims to offer hardware accelerated video decoding - is this for .MKVs?
2) Is that hardware acceleratation for Tegra 2
3) IF so, how are they managing it where so many others have failed? (Wasn't the core problem with offering HW acceleration for .MKVs down to lack of support from the nVidia side of things?)
Cheers
1) Diceplayer claims to offer hardware accelerated video decoding - is this for .MKVs?
=> Yes. it use hw accelerator at any format with MPEG-4/H.264
you can play MOV / AVI files with HW accel.
2) Is that hardware acceleratation for Tegra 2
=> YES.
It plays 720p high profile mkv without any issues. With 1080p, The video stops playing, but the audio still works for some, but wont for most of the 1080p videos either mkv or mp4. I think this might be achieved in the future.
720p playback is great !
1080p just freeze the tab but hey not even my Galaxy S II cant handle Full HD besides the resolution is useless for now anyway

I don't think it (Galaxy Tab/Tegra2) can handle level 4.1 or higher. But plays the rest better than anything else I've tried.

Awesome.. which leads me to question 3.. *How* are they managing to implement HW acceleration where the other software vendors have failed? e.g. the reliance on core NVidia software library support (or lack of it apparently) ??

MKV playback issues

Hey guys, just got a few 720p high profile mkv files which reviews claimed could be played with the stock video player. All 3 files currently do not. Dice player works in trial but when i try to buy it gives me not found in the market. I'd rather usethe built in player personally but has anyone else had any luck either way?
EDIT solved with bs player
Try moboplayer its free.
Sent from my Galaxy S2
or MXPlayer I have used that on many MKVs

I use the exact same
mx player works well but there's no hardware decoding available in any of them. Very disappointed ( though I know the hardware is capable of it). I know anandtech? Or one of the reviews did a blu ray rip and it played great so I'm guessing I'm missing something, an update broke it or if will be fixed in ics. Is also possible they just need hardware drivers for tegra3. I'm optimistic, is launch week, well have awesome devs, it'll get sorted eventually. Even software decode stutters just a bit ( I'm a video perfectionist). Also peeved at xda app FCs but again, brand new device. Just let me know if anyone (particularly those who didn't update) has any better luck.
Unbelievable , this still not resolved after the Tegra 2 debacle.
i've played a couple mkv's just fine with the stock player and mx player. the only issue i've had with them is if i skip around, the video never picks back up, works fine in software though.
but if i just watch the movie through without skipping around, it plays perfectly.
as you can see here ICS has added support to the Matroska format, so hopefully the default player will be handling it smoothly in ICS.

That's good to know. Was thinking of cancelling my preorder once I heard people having problems with mkv's & diceplayer being unavailable

How were these files encoded? Because in order to take advantage of hardware decoding a file has to meet a certain standard. If it deviates even a tiny bit, it will not work.
Go and Download BSPlayer lite from the market. It has the same funtionality like Diceplayer. Tegra 3 can nearly play all 1080p vids.

Well its h264 high profile, which tegra 3 plays. Tegra 3 isn't picky, as long as its less than a 42mbps bitrate the hardware will handle it. The only standard it must meet is 1080p and less and 42mbps or less in h264 anyways. For tegra 3, i'm sure software is the issue.
Files came from my media server which are also hw accelerated with an nvidia graphics card via vdpau. never even have to check, just always plays (h264 anyways)
Again, i'm sure they'll fix it eventually,I know the chip does it, still annoying., its why I never bought tegra 2. And for those suggesting software decode, battery life PLUMMETS and the performance we would have with hw decode would be as good or better than blu ray with no stutter.

Prime will handle highprofile mkv just fine if you use a other media player like mxplayer, diceplayer The problem when you can't play with the stock player is that it for the most times can't handle the audio.
Just give them some time to update there players to full Tegra3 support. The device have only been out some days and I think the developers also would like to have a device to test on.
I have posted this in a other thread, but I will repost it here to. From swedroid.se test, and translated into English.

@OP
Have you tried a straight MP4 (H264/AAC) with standard Android player? You do realize that it's not just the video track that kicks the (3rd-party) player into HW or SW mode, right? Subtitles, for instance, will invoke SW mode. Chapter tracks will also probably cause SW.
As much as you sound you know, then you should also know that not every downloaded video is the same. If you have problems, SOP is first to provide specs (MediaInfo works), second is to provide a sample, third is to specify environment (which player you've tried, and their respective performance). Only noobs go "my vids don't work, now what?"
With the non-info you've provided, all you get is guesswork.
What do you mean by " files came from a media server"? If you are streaming to the device, expect skipping playback because WiFi can't handle hi-bitrate 1080p.
I have no issues running 720p or 1080p hi profile (locally) on my Transformer Prime in Dice player, even with DTS and multiple audio tracks.
people need to realise 3rd party players need to be optimised for tegra 3 for hardware acceleration. its not to do with type of file, as long as it does not have very high bitrate.
Everyone has to understand, that MKV is just a container. You can put almost anything into this container so therefore it is unlikely that the hardware can decode everything that can go into a MKV container.
The main thing about the Kal-El SoC, it is the first chip that can decode h.264 High Profile video. To see the supported codecs that Tegra 3 can decode in hardware see: http://www.nvidia.com/object/tegra-superchip.html
I've ripped hundreds of blu-rays. I've ended up using two sets of files.
Archive for playback on Samsung LED TV's and other high end DLNA devices:
Container: MKV
Video: H.264 High Profile 4.0 Constant Quality 18-20 1080p
Audio: AAC-LC 384 5.1 channel
Subtitles: sub format
Software: HD Decrypter, RipBot264 and Handbrake
Mobile Devices:
Container: m4v
Video: H.264 Base 3.0 Profile, 2-pass (1000kbps widescreen and 1200kbps for 16x9) qHD size (960x540),
Audio: AAC-LC 128 2 channel
Subtitles: Converted from the MKV
Software: Handbrake
I spend most of the time make the archive format looking as good as possible for it's size. Most files come out to 4-7GB per movie. There are exceptions depending on the quality of the movie. Movies with lots of noise in them come out to be much larger then one that is very clean. Computer Generated movies will come out to 3-4GB using CQ 18. The Prime should decode these just fine.
The mobile size I use for under powered devices and also to have as many movies as possible for it's size. qHD actually ends up looking very nice for it's size when down converted from blu-ray. A two hour movie comes out to be about 1GB. This way I can have on average 60-70 movies on 64B microsdxc card and about the same on the 64GB prime itself.
sorry, but I felt I provided all necessary info. The files are stored locally, mkv h264 high profile 20mbps streams with ac3 5.1 audio. They also have subtitles, though I don't need them.tpb was the source of all 3.
In any event, bs player works with hardware acceleration perfectly and I'm very happy. It also shows the hardware is fully capable of it, software will soon follow (ics)

According to the Tegra 3 specs, AC3 is not supported in hardware.

Sony Tablet S - Video Bitrate

Hi! I'm trying to find a way to play 720p videos smoothly on my Tablet S but I can't find a proper bitrate for it. I tried 4000 but it's still laggy. On some tutorials I found they were saying to use 1500 as bitrate but that is ridiculous. A 720p video with bitrate 1500 will result in a lot of dead pixels. So what can I do?
I'm using Format Factory to convert the MKV videos to MP4 H.264/AVC 720p
Help please :crying:
Sorry bad english

The best video format for the Sony Tablet S is MPEG-4 (mp4) encoded using a H.264 CODEC with a pixel size of 1280 x 720, a bit rate of 1500 kbps, and a frame rate of 29.97 fps. The video's audio should be stereo AAC with a sample rate of 44100 Hz and a bit rate of 96000 bps. I use and recommend Handbrake for converting videos and MX Player Pro for playing videos.

Actually you can just download Dice Player or BS Player Lite. This two video player can play any mkv files I load into it. even upto 1080p  :good:
1080p are terribly laggy

Ok I tried some 720p MKV files and the sound isn't synchronized with the video. Also I still noticed some lag.

Try QQPlayer. I had a lot of problems with video playing slower than audio when using Dice and MX, but QQ seemed to clear them up. Other than that, try using a video converter (such as Handbrake) and use the Apple TV preset. Works for me.
I'm also disappointed by the Tegra 2 performance in video. Here are some thoughts and questions.
From my personal tries, all video players (MX, BSPlayer, Dice) have about the same performance (perhaps BSPlayer with ARMv7 plugin is a little better). Does every video player Tegra 2 video playback implementation are based on the same library?
Is there some way to make some low-level (asm) optimization that would help? I would gladly take a look if there was a way to do it.
I've noticed that even 720P High profile have some lag! Not very serious, but noticeable!! For example, Rise of the Silver Surfer 720P-HP trailer (see h264info.com/clips.html) lags at several points in the video. It may be clearly seen with BSPlayer, when displaying FPS information ('(i)' button during video playback).
1080P Baseline Profile seems to play smoothly (and H/W acceleration is enabled).
Video players disables H/W acceleration for High Profile 1080P so, of course it is terribly laggy. Is it a technical requirement? Isn't there a way to force H/W acceleration for Full HD High profile videos, even if that wouldn't mean full speed?
