Hi guys,
I still possible to make SGS2 unlock the phone as soon as i enter the right pin code on lock screen, without having to press the OK button down the bottom?
Doubt it, asthe ability to lock the sim card be too great. Example: you make a mistake on the last digit. 2 attempts left. You have taken a couple of beers. Ops. Sim Locked
Has anyone found a solution to this??
I've been customizing my phone every day for who knows how long, little by little to get it just how i like it, and this 'OK' button is annoying. VERY annoying. Though, I need a PIN on my phone, and 99.99%of the apps on the market have horrible horrible designs. No offence, but I'd rather stay with the android look. All of the thread's I've found have either told someone to use a third-party app, or use CM10. Well, someone who has almost all of their information on their phone can't afford to install this, seeing as it wipes your entire phone, and for a PIN, that's unnecessary. I don't know what roms are, same with roms. I like the way the touchwiz UI looks on my E4GT(I have fk09 leak installed, recently got this phone, and barely had anything on it). I like the way JB looks with touchwiz way more than it did on ICS(looked horrid).
TL;DR
If someone can find a fix to this, without any third party launchers, or horrible-looking apps, that would be great. If you give a rom, explain how to install it. Thanks in advance.
The rom SlimBean has this feature which I use. It can be found in the lock screen settings.

I'm going to preempt the inevitable question that's going to come following Drexciya's excellent suggestion to use Slim if you want this feature (tick quick unlock in settings/interface/lock screen/screen security).
How do you install it ? Read the first page of the Slim thread in Development. Easy.

Thanks for an answer, but AFAIK, FK09 has no recovery mod, which i didn't realize, and unless someone kniws of one that supports the build,pr whatever, I can't load any mods.. Also, links to specefic topics help a lot..
And you're unable to go to the Development section & look for the Slim Bean thread like everyone else here why exactly ? (using the XDA app on your phone & being too lazy don't count as valid answers).
Re: whatever you're running now that has no recovery, looks like you're going to have to flash something else; another rom that has CWRecovery or at the very least temporary CWRecovery (which will disappear after you reboot) if you want to flash Slim. I don't believe there's an Odin version.

No, I'm not being lazy, I simply dont know where to look. Not sure if you could tell, t I'm new here, and I'm not used to this. Did you expect me to just know where EVERYTHING is? I found this thread after wasting my entire evening looking for a solution, and found this thread. I signed up specefically for this purpose. I was trying to ask for a link without looking too unappreciative, but rhatbobvoliously didn't help. And I don't use an xda app, nor do I intend to.

I really don't know how to do this.. Is there a thread for this? I'll just google it.. Thanks anyways.
My point was (is) I don't have a link. If I want to get you a link, I'd go to Development (by navigating the site; not exactly a new fandangled web thingy) & find the thread, come back here & post the link. You're perfectly capable of doing this yourself, yet you expect me to that ?
That speaks volumes about the people who seem to visit here these days. They want everything served up to them on a silver platter with a minimum or no effort on their own part.
Also, from his first post in this thread, he's an Epic 4g Touch user. Any ROM suggestions he gets here are likely to be i9100 ROMs.

And this shows that some people who find themselves comfortable here can't read. I obviously don't know how to get to development, or how to navigate the forums. I don't inderatand how it takes any more explaination that I DON'T KNOW where to look. Get around looking like a smart allic, and actually take the time to help people around. What are you, 14? You act like it, as everyone is supposed to know everything on a site for developers. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that I know nothing about these things. I didn't do the rooting, soneone else did, so stop expecting everyone knows as much about this forum, or everything you are, because they don't. As far as I know, I didn't come here to argue with someone I don't even know, who thinks they're an internet genious, I came here for support. A link is the least of your problems if you think I know where it is. If you don't want to, don't do it, that's simple, just don't do it. Just don't reply, and save yourself the embarassment, because you just made the forums seem like ignorant children with conputers, who care more about criticising people than anything.

Aren't they both Galaxy SII's? I would think they did the same, and these roms run the same.. Does that mean that there are no rom for the epic 4g touch? If not, is there a way around this without rom?
Thanks in advance

Clearly you don't know you're in the wrong place anyways.
Yes, they are both Galaxy SII's. They are different, however, since yours (Epic 4g Touch) is a phone designed to work on Sprint's CDMA network. That phone has a separate forum. There are plenty of ROMs for that device in its forum.
The device this forum is for (GT-I9100) is a GSM phone that won't even work on Sprint's network. So no, ROMs for this phone won't work on your phone.

Thank you, for clearing this up
My question is fairly simple.
I have installed various ROMs and kernels, and have used CWM of various different model numbers (which some work and some dont) and now I am quite curious what the ACTUAL hardware model # of my phone is.
I am not talking about checking what the model number is INSIDE THE PHONE SOFTWARE OR UNDER THE BATTERY! (my phone is GT-i9100T btw)...because this is only dependent on what ROM/Kernel you install and can change.
Originally when I first got my phone it said the model number was GT-i9100TxxKJ1 - the small "xx" is actually something else that I cant even remember anymore.
When I tried to install a KJ1 CWM over it to start rooting it - IT DIDNT WORK. So, I got a KJ3, KI1, and KI3 all of which worked fine. However, they also changed my phone's "baseband" version when looking up info about phone in settings to the same letters, respectively. Also, they removed the "T" from the main model number ie: GT-i9100 shows up at boot, and no longer GT-i9100T.
Now I am trying to install a very good ROM/Kernel that will improve battery life and remove all the bloatware apps (I've tried to do that with hyperdroid, CM7, Villian, and many others, but apparently bloat is still there, and/or battery is still fairly miserable). The problem is that I dont really know what my real phone model is. I also want to install the correct version of CWM and I'd really like my phone to use the correct drivers.
So my final questions are:
How do I determine what actual model #'s my phone has?? (ie: UXKJ1, UGKI3, ZVKG2, etc.)
And----
Is it even important/necessary to know the exact phone's model #'s or can I use more recent updated pda/modem/csc firmware that perhaps even give better performance?
Thank you very much for help, in advance.
BTW, I did use search, and all I could find was this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397121
I also followed up and googled the suggested "morfics kernel thread" to find info regarding this issue but found nothing.
Thought I'd mention this, as this is also my first post here. ;-)
To find your model take your battery out and its under there. I cant comment on the T variant as im not sure if its different like the G version is different.
Ricey
I9100T is the same as the I9100 for all intensive purposes. Slight difference in power of radio or something from memory. No difference so far as roms/kernels that can be used tho (Has same processor as I9100, etc).

Are you sure you are flashing a root kernel as they cannot flash a modem .
jje
You most likely have the i9100T. Basically flash anything you like, but if reception is bad flash a i9100T modem over the top of it.
As ricey1986 pointed out, the only way to be sure is to check the sticker under the battery.

Its the differant SAR Ratings, as the T version was mostly sold in Asia/Aus.
GT-I9100
THIS MODEL MEETS INTERNATIONAL GUIDELINES FOR EXPOSURE TO RADIO WAVES
Your mobile phone is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed not to exceed the limits for exposure to radio waves recommended by international guidelines. These guidelines were developed by the independent scientific organization ICNIRP and include safety margins designed to assure the protection of all persons, regardless of age and health.
The guidelines use a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit for mobile devices is 2.0 W/kg and the highest SAR value for this device when tested at the ear was 0.338 W/kg1. As mobile phone offer a range of functions, they can be used in other positions, such as on the body as described in this user guide2. In this case, the highest tested SAR value is 0.538 W/kg

NOT ONE OF YOU ANSWERED MY QUESTION!!!
I Made it EXPLICITY clear what my question was and that it was NOT a question simply to ask if it was i9100T, or i9100, or i9100G...I dont care about that.
I want to know what my ENTIRE MODEL number is....How is it possible every single one of you missed that when I repeatedly made it clear that is what I was asking and NOT asking about the above single T/-/G variant. Information on that is widespread and easy to find and I already know it.
For a forum so dedicated to having people avoid asking questions already asked - MANY OF YOU APPARENTLY ANSWER QUESTIONS WITHOUT READING THEM!!
Once again: I want to know if my base phone is LUXKJ1, or XEOKI3 or etc etc etc....this is what my question asks!
PLEASE READ THE QUESTION BEFORE ANSWERING AND CLUTTERING UP A PERFECTLY GOOD QUESTION THREAD!
I can almost guarantee you won't get the answer you're looking for after posting like a 3yr old. Notice how your thread has been ignored for the last 90 mins ?
There's a hint in that for you champ.
Edit to add - I've got a couple of nephews & nieces under 5 who behave better than you. But I know how kids can get sometimes, so I'm going to cut you a bit of slack. You might find what you're looking for in this thread or this thread. You're going to have to work the rest out on your own tho.

Man, the reason you got so many varying answers is because no-one actually knows what the hell you are asking.
To be honest, I don't think you even know what you are asking. Or at least you haven't got a proper grasp of the terminology for the phone which has led to this confusion.
In the first paragraph of the OP you ask "and now I am curious what the ACTUAL hardware model # of my phone is".
Very simple, its a bloody i9100T.
Later you claim to have flashed various kernals which changed your baseband. Baseband only changes when you flash a modem, which for you is now most likely an i9100 MODEM which is not optimized for your phone.
Later you state again you don't know what your real phone model is (its an i9100T by the way) so that you can install the correct version of cwm and so your phone has the correct drivers.
Well, that's pretty confusing but the correct cwm version (or cf root version) for you is the version for whatever firmware you currently have.
Again in the final paragraph you ask what your actual model number is but provide a list of firmware versions.
Finally, based on your final sentence of the OP, yes it is very important what your exact phone model is but I suspect you meant firmware version because you talk about pda/modem/csc. You can flash pretty much any firmware version you like. And yes, generally the newer the better.
Now again in your reply you ask " Once again: I want to know if my base phone is LUXKJ1, or XEOKI3 or etc etc etc....this is what my question asks!"
Well, how would we know what firmware version you phone came with, you obviously flashed over it already.
Maybe explaining from what carrier / country etc it came from then maybe people can help you.
Anyway, that all means ****. You have an i9100T and you can flash whatever you like but may need to flash a T modem if reception is bad.
Over and out, and grow up. You wont be getting much help if your react that way to people at least attempting to answer your " PERFECTLY GOOD QUESTION THREAD'.

And yes, I am not an expert at this, hence my presence here in Q&A. I've spent 2 days searching for answers before posting here.
Yes that also does mean my question might be a bit off. I'm an engineer though so have alot more technical ability than most, so its going to be very apparent that others might have this same issue/question.
1) I'm not concerned with what firmware my phone shipped with originally - but rather what actual hardware it is.
2) I know the difference between i9100, i9100G and i9100T.
3) I wasnt aware of the differences between all the various hardware #'s such as XWKJ1, ZVKG3, etc. -- apparently I was wrong anyway and those are simply firmware ID's and not hardware ID's. That clears alot of things up.
4) If I understand correctly from your answer - it doesnt matter what firmware I use, as long as it works. I can use any ROM or Kernel I want as long as they match, and can flash any PDA/Modem/CSC I want as long as they also match/work in my phone. As you said, the newer the better.
This is the answer I was looking for, thanks for clearing it up.
I am putting on ICS and CM9 now, and will also try out the other ICS builds. I was simply worried that I might use a modem firmware or something that is made for a different hardware piece which then could cause some damage in my phone.
Last phones I did development for were WinCE and java based, over 8 years ago, as I'm mainly a software engineer. This is the first smart-phone I have.
Thanks again for your answer and I had no intention to make it confusing, there were simply some terminology and such issues I wasnt clear on.
That also makes it more clear as to why people were confused on my question. So I appologize for that.
It seemed to me that nobody read my question as I explicitly said I am not asking for whether it is an i9100/T/G because thats fairly obvious and imprinted on the phone (physically).

Hey man, glad you now understand why so many of us weren't able to answer you correctly, but really it came down to your tone in the reply. Anyway, we are a pretty forgiving community so let's forget about it and move on.
With the i9100T you can flash any i9100 rom from whatever region etc. Yes some things do need to match but I don't even bother with csc because for me it makes no difference. It really only helps if you want to receive your carrier upgrades from kies which I dont even use anymore. Csc also can include carrier bloatware but I prefer an unbranded phone. So if you want your carrier's crap, then csc is important.
And yes roms and kernals do need to match but in some cases you can use 1 kernal across multiple roms, like the siyah and speedmod kernals. Cf root on the other hand most often need to match the rom. With the Samsung ics leaked roms, I think kernals can also be mixed and matched so long as they are Samsung ics kernals. Anyway, all custom roms come with a functional kernal built in so no need to change it, unless you prefer another one.
For me, also with the T version, the only thing I have to worry about is the modem as the i9100 modems give poor reception for my carrier. So basically if I flash stock, custom, miui or cm roms, I need to reflash the T modem for better reception. I been able to use that modem on any firmware I've tried.
Hope this clears things up a little. I see you are now getting a hang on the terminology but yeah, at first it can be quite confusing.

If a Rooting Process will cause issues on a specific version. THAT needs to be stated in the information. Even if I was an expert I would not of know because it said nothing referring to versions or cautions.
That's like saying it's the users fault if he tried a custom rom damaging said device, because the creator of the rom didn't post information that he knew.
Tis all I am saying
FWIW all the modifications are done at user's discretion so it's never anyone's fault but yourself unless you get someone else to do it.
On topic though, try flashing a full firmware from ODIN which includes the modem, pda and csc files. Don't forget though that you should get this file from the right forum, or else you'll be stuck with a non working phone period.
Also, really, a valid question is, where did you get the rooting method you were trying to use? After all, you DID post this very post asking for help with your SGH-I777 in the i9100 forums. So if you got the method from a forum meant for a device that isn't yours, can you really legitimately blame the poster, just because you used it on YOUR device? I don't think that's fair.
EDIT: or do you have a Skyrocket, which is an SGH-I727?
I'm saying, if I myself, was posting information or a Rom/Kernel, if I know it doesn't work with a specific version of a device, and that users should NOT use it. It is my responsibility to tell them first as a warning, that's all I am saying.
And what I'm saying, is if you got the method from a forum meant for i9100 phones, and NOT for ATT Galaxy S2 (which is the SGH-I777), how is that the other guy's fault that you used something not meant for your phone, just because you happened to find the information? C'mon, man. Take some responsibility.
Couldn't you just get titanium backup then back up everything? Then unroot to 2.3.4 the root your phone so wifi works then restore with titanium backup. I did something very similar to this to fix my phone and I've had a couple problems restoring but that's probably just cause I am a newb. Overall it worked pretty good though.
Something is wrong at the kernel level. Titanium backup won't help.
Um, no.
Your phone = your responsibility. Bottom line. Nothing else is relevant.
Hey guys. I finally traded up from an OG droid to a Galaxy S2 and can't seem to find an updated rooting tutorial. All of them have dead links or don't seem to work. I hope I don't get flamed for this but can someone please send me in the right direction? Thank you.

1st step: make sure what model Galaxy S2 you have (label under battery) as there are over a dozen different model phones called Galaxy S2. OG "Droid" is on Verizon, and Verizon doesn't carry ANY Galaxy S2 model. If you were on Verizon previously, that means you are in the US. If so, and you got a Galaxy S2 through a US carrier (ATT, Sprint, T-Mobile), I guarantee it is NOT the GT-I9100, which is the device this forum is for.
my phone is a gt-i9100. I live in alaska. I purchased it through a local phone company called GCI. I just feel overwhelmed with all the galaxy products out there. A little over saturated, but definitely a good phone. I just wanna root it like I did my Xoom and OG droid.

I had to ask. I'm in the US using a GT-I9100 as well, but the majority of US Galaxy S2 users are NOT on the GT-I9100.
You can root using a CF-Root kernel. Works perfectly fine, and installs CWM recovery for you as well. Just make sure to follow the instructions exactly.
Hey thanks. Honestly I like this phone so much I didn't really wanna root it, but my carrier will probably never officially support the ICS update and I miss having nandroid backups and tinkering around to get the most out of my phone. Thanks for the link.
No problem, but also please be aware of the forum rules. Rule #1 is to search before posting. Not everyone will be so generous.
I gotcha. Sorry for not searching as much as I could have. I have an issue, however. My kernel is 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKI3-CL577579 and the tutorial mentions KG1. Also, there's about a million files posted throughout the thread and I have no idea which is supposed to be for my device. I'm sorry if I'm asking for a handout. I just wish rooting was simpler like on my old phone. I'm sorry, and thanks again/

There's a "Help! Which file do I use ?" section in that thread. Sounds like you read that, since you mention the tutorial that mentions KG1. So you should be able to figure out which one to use based on that. I bolded the important part of your kernel version.
Alright. I found the right file and I'm rooted successfully! is there anything I can do to get rid of the triangle that shows up when I first boot up my phone? I'm totally psyched! Now I gotta search for a good ICS rom. lol.

*sigh*... rule #1 again. This is a question that's been answered literally more times than I have posts. There are many ways.
EDIT: of course, if you flash an ICS ROM, chances are good you will have the triangle again, in which case, there is no point in getting rid of the triangle now.

Turn the phone upside down while it's booting or put some paper over it.
Ha ha. Funny indeed. I know I had better start following the rules, and the yellow triangle isnt exactly a concern. This thread should probably be deleted due to my ignorance. For what it's worth, I'm extremely grateful for the help I've received. Lastly, anyone here on ICS or have a personal preference on what build to download? I'm kinda worried because I love EOS ICS on my xoom but gingerbread is so well optimized and I'm sure some apps won't work once I make the upgrade. So many more apps are compatible on my phone and I'm weighing out the risks.

Hey guys. I had one more little issue I wanted some direction with. Do I need APN Backup & Restore before I update? Also, I don't have enough room on my phone for a complete nandroid. Is rogue recovery compatible with the SGS2 or is there a way to configure CWM recovery to write a backup to the external card? Everything else is pretty much within my grasp. A million apologies and thanks for all the n00bishness.

How can I see many guys tried to help you but you never press thanks button, first learn to press thanks button and use SEARCH button before asking something
Alright everyone. I'll be more respectful of the rules and give thanks when its due but I have a dilemma because Ice sandwich doesn't give access to apn settings like previous incarnations and I feel really lost and worried that I'll mess my mobile internet up if I'm not careful.I also tried to research about making a nandroid backup straight to my external card without results. if this is the wrong place to ask can someone guide me in the right direction? Thanks.
You're saying you can't edit APNs on an ICS ROM? That's weird. The guy in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554967) sure sounds like he could edit APNs on an ICS ROM.
No. Thats not what I meant. Ive only ever edited the apn of my old phone with apn backup and restore. Apps don't have access to apn settings in 3.0 and up from the research I've tried to do. I didn't know how else to edit them. My xoom is wifi and my og Droid never made it past gingerbread so this was never an issue in the past. What do you do when you update? Write everything down and key it in after the upgrade? I have no problem doing so. I was just asking if theres an easier option. My only other issue is figuring out how to make a nandroid backup straight to my external SD card. I'm unfamiliar with recovery kernals for Samsung phones and cwm recovery doesn't let you access your external card so I hoped for advice on a better one. If I can't ask for help with these things here then I promise i won't keep coming back until I have more worthy questions. I could've done a lot more research in the beginning. If its better for everyone ill just see what happens on my own and if I screw up I screw up.

Not what you meant? But your follow up statement here makes it sound like exactly what you meant. Not very clear here...
EDIT to add: I should say - what I linked above is ONLY relevant because I used him as an example of someone who was indicating it was possible to edit an APN on an ICS ROM. Which seems to contradict, and yet NOT contradict, what you were saying. See my confusion?

There are several apps in the play store that back up and restore APN settings. But you probably won't need them. If you do a reset to default in APN settings, it should query your carrier for their APN settings, and just work.

I can access my external sd with CWM just fine. You have to mount it first though.
So I foolishly bought an unbranded HTC Amaze(from an Amazon seller in Indiana) instead of a T-Mobile official phone and now I'm having all sorts of frustrations. The first sign of problems was when I couldn't select English (United State) as my language. Had to choose an asian English format. Then the ohone couldn't see the HTC Sync program when connected via USB. Finally figured out what a mess I'm in when I couldn't updgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich after following HTC & T-Mobile website support info. Started searching the web and found this link on this forum but honestly I have no idea what it all means.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742911
So many questions before I try to do anything. I know now that I have a version of GB that can't be updated via T-Mobile and it's an Asian software version. My first question would be if I am risking damaging the phone by trying to follow the steps (if I can understand what they are)?
OR, am I better off trying to convince the Amazon seller not to charge me a 20% restocking fee for returning a phone that doesn't work as expected and then buying the official phone at a higher price? Sigh... again, SO frustrated.
Here's what I assume you need to help me decide what to do:
Android Version: 2.3.4
Software number: 1.60.707.3
Kernel version:
2.6.35.13-g4a1059e

SMP PREEMPT Wed Mar21 17:44:59 CST 2012
Baseband version: 1.13.550L.13DC_30.69b.550L.101D
Build number: 1.60.707.3 CL324941 release-keys
Browser version: WebKit/533.1
Thanks for the help and sorry for being yet another noob poster...

If you read through that thread you linked to, you would see the very only solution to getting ICS on the device, yes yes I know, a tad bit of reading to do, but to get what we want, one must make sacrifices. I'd advise you to read the amaze bible thread and understand a few terms and things about the device first before making your next move. I can throw the solution out there right now but you'd be utterly clueless from what I read of your current stand point and that will only make the situation worse. So before we get to any technical stand points, I'll say this, yes there is a way to get your device on ICS, but it has risk and requires you to get to know and understand your device before attempting any of this. Once you understand it all, just enough to proceed, the risk are practically null. Just requires patience, understanding, calm and loads of reading. Are you willing to do all of that or just pay the 20% restocking fee? Sorry to hear about the language issue.
