custom rom vs stock: speed? - Optimus One, P500, V General

im looking to download cm7 on my dad's optimus one cause official gingerbread is just too slow. does cm7 come with any speed increases, or is it just for the features? all he uses the phone for is call and text, so all i need is a SPEEDY and stable rom (something that I won't have to update ever again).
or is cm9/any other rom stable enough, and does it slow down the phone at all?
thanks
(this is for the canadian (koodo) version of the optimus one, but i'm guessing they're all the same right?)

If you want speed and stability, go with the gingerbread oxygen. It's much faster than cm7, and it's pretty much stable. If you want features though, you'd have to go with cm7

oxygen is the fastest, most stable and the best battery life you ll get on your phone!

stock froyo is the fastest rom ever!

If you don't use that phone, don't mess with it.
Stock is always more stable and if he only uses the phone for calls and txt, don't mess it up for him because problems can appear on off the market OS's like wakelocks or reboots and I'm guessing dad won't be to happy about that

If you really want a great selection of free fonts, download custom font switcher from the market. There's close to a hundred and fifty and they all work with every rom I've tried. Let me know what you think.

I tried the "Custom Android Font Switcher"
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-lee-android-switcher-zxmzp.aspx
It shows the font preview, asks are you sure you want to apply..., re-boots immediately back into system, No Change.
Any Ideas??
I usually make my own flash-able .zip files to change the font to what I like.
thought this would be easier.
Also here is an Excellent Source for Free Fonts .

[URGENT - PLEASE HELP] How to get Chinese UI on p500

I purchased my p500 in Canada using the default Canadian ROM.
I would like Chinese UI on it (Canadian ROM doesnt come with Chinese language display), and was wondering if I can flash it with HK/Taiwan ROM? I am planning to send it back to Asia as a gift anyways...
Will that work? If so, can someone PLEASE point me to the right direction doing that?
Thanks a million. This is very urgent. I apologize for the trouble.!!!!!!
P.S: It doesnt have to be HK/Taiwan, if there is any custom ROM that supports Chinese UI, I can go with that too.
U colud try a cm7 rom.

oh great!
this is a life-saver!
so once i flash it with cm7, it is a completely "different' ROM - meaning it doesnt matter what region/stock ROM was, originally?
and I still keep all the original baseband / radio band (whatever you call it?)
sorry for being a noob.

Baseband does not Change just by flashing roms if you were on original gingerbread before you have the new baseband or if you were on froyo you have the old one.

Hey all
I am more avtive at the fascinate forums , got a O1 too.
Rooted it a few months back and flashed the recovery too.
Currently on GB v20G
Now want to flash some custom Rom which should be snappy and good on battery.
The o1 is used just for calls and all atm and ocassionally for other usage.
Would appreciate if some one can point me to a good rom along with the installation instructions.
Regards

Oxygen in my opinion. As you don't need much customization, this would be the best choice

Use the firmware on the basis of official 2.3.3. For example:
[=RESURRECTION= 2.0 ROM] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574523
or
[Optimus1 Origins v2.0 ROM] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589710
Thanks mates !!!

Power+home+vol down and you select in recovery with menu, before flashing ROMs you must wipe system and boot

Constant freezing and battery loss

I have looked everywhere for an answer but have found nothing. I can use my phone just fine until it completely freezes. I am left with no option but to take the battery out and restart and come back to a low battery that went from roughly 80% to 10%. I have no clue what to do. I'm not sure if i need to wipe and format. Can anyone give me some advice? If it's a case of having to wipe, can I have details on how to do this without losing information?
Thanks

i think you have the original firmware, try to install the newest firmware LSJ you can get this at sammobile.com or you can choose a custom rom which you can find here

Yeah, you're on an official rom, and since you don't know what it means, I assume you don't underclock (UC) and/or undervolt (UV)
Ever considered rooting and flashing a custom rom? Or, like stated above me, flash some other official firmware through Odin to see if the problems still excist (except someone else has another sollution).

u got 2 options :
1.spend the rest of ur life trying to figure out wats causing the freezing to this retarded android system AND never find an answer
2.save ur time, money and efort and do ur self a favour : buy a real smart phone that works and does all it promises .... buy an iPhone

[Q] what does a kernel do?

so i heard flashing a kernel on stock rom can increase battery life.
well my i9300 is currently running Samsung's 4.3 and i was wondering if their was a kernel i can flash over this using twrp to get better battery life, more RAM or performance. i an new here but i really want to understand.
i wud prefer if i could get more RAM as touchwiz takes up so much RAM and the 1gig i hav tends to full up quickly....

If u rly just wan speed and performance. Go for stock android. Features, go for sammy roms. For ur case, i recommend u to flash a custom rom.

Kernel is the powerhouse of your phone.. You cab improve speed and sound quality with battery saving..Just go to particular thread.. see that it supports your phone and android version.. Download zip for
your particular version.. Copy it to your SD card and flash through recovery that's it...

The below image explains in simple terms what the kernel does:

And thread closed as there is no "best" kernel, only what works best for you. What you find the best kernel might not be the best for another due to differences in how you use the device
