Unable to Update Galaxy S2 i777 Via Kies: Recieving odd Notices - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hey everyone, I was attempting to flash an iteration of cyanogen mod on my i777 last night and something went horribly wrong (I think the tutorial I used linked me to Clockwork Recovery Mod for the i9100 or something) so long story short, I flashed a stock i777 rom and reset to factory defaults. My phone is now functional but I'm trying to upgrade to the latest firmware before I try to flash another ROM. I'm running into some problems using Kies though. When I have Kies open and my phone is plugged in, it realizes that I need to upgrade firmware and ask me if I want to. A dialog box opens stating my current firmware version (PDA:KH7 / PHONE:KH7 / CSC:KH7), the latest firmware version (PDA:KK6 / PHONE:KK6 / CSC:KK6), the test "TEST1" then the update/cancel buttons. Then it prompts me to read some disclaimer information (don't disconnect your phone, back everything up, etc) and I click "Start upgrade". Immediately after this a dialog box opens that says "Notice" at the top then in the information field there is just the message "TEST2". At the bottom are the options "start" and "cancel" if I click start, the process continues to download upgrade components, then prepare upgrade components, then the upgrade process begins and I get a notification that just says "Notice" Then a bunch of (what looks like) mandarin characters (I'd post a picture but because I'm a new user I cannot reference external links.) Once I click 'OK' it acts as if the phone has been disconnected and reconnected and starts the process again.
Obviously these messages are very odd and uninformative for an end user like myself. I'm led to believe I'm doing something wrong but can't find any help online (I've tried google and searching through threads here here). Has anyone experience this before? is there an ICS rom that I can flash straight from the stock rom? What can I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Wild guess. U used rom manager.

Not sure about the messages, but when I first decided to try the KIES update when I had restored to stock, I did the KK6 update over the air. Go to settings, then software update (I can't quite remember where software update is in gingerbread settings).
I don't know if this will help, but plugging your phone into KIES with KK6 already on thephone may work.
And, yes as mentioned above, if you used ROM manager in the past, you will have problems.

You mentioned you are back to stock with a functional phone. You also said you plan to flash a custom rom. So why bother upgrading via Kies first? Whatever upgrade you receive via kies will disappear when you flash a new ROM. If you have a functional phone, Just go ahead and flash whatever you are going to flash.
However, it sounds as if your problems started because, in the BEST case you flashed the wrong rom for your phone and, in the WORST case, you might have used ROM manager which a few minutes of browsing the stickies would have immediately told you was a bad idea. So, before you attempt anything else with your phone, it sounds as if you need to do some reading to make sure you understand what you are doing. The stickies are a great place to start.

I tried updating over the air yesterday after I did the factory reset but it told me I was IP to date (obviously not true) and is making me wait 24 hours before I try again. I still have about 6 hours before I can try again. I'll post again with my results. I did not use ROM manager. I flashed the from via Odin mode. Thanks for the replies, guys.

I'm confused about what u did and how u fixed it. And if its fixed. But whatever the case let us know how it turns out.

[Q] SGS2 Won't boot properly - not a boot loop [problem solved]

Ok, here's the deal:
Rooted the device, everything was a-ok.
Installed Clockwork, everything still a-ok.
Tried using mod manager to install Cyanogen nightly 9, phone rebooted and the progress bar for the mod install wouldn't move. I waited for a while and eventually manually turned the device off as it wasn't making any progress.
Ever since, it won't go past the screen you get at the beginning (w/ the yellow sign indicating an unsecured rom). It just stays there forever.
What I have to work with:
- Clockwork Recovery is available.
- The device is recognized by Odin when in download mode.
- The device is not recognized by the computer/Kies.
What I've tried:
- Followed the instruction for boot loop w/ both stock rom and Villain (no dice).
I'm sorta freaking out now. I have yet to see anyone having the same problem online and I really hope it's not bricked - a 600$ paperweight...
Is there something else I can try? Is it possible to flash stock PIT/Bootloader/PDA/everything else? If it is, would it fix the problem?
Please just point me in the right direction.
Thank You,
Edit: In recovery mode, the following error appears:
- Can't access to "/system/csc/VMC/system/"
Edit: In download mode, the current binary is set to "Samsung Official". Therefore I think this isn't the problem.
Edit: OMG OMG holy crap. Problem has been solved. Got a friend who had the same phone from the same provider to tell me what the firmware for the phone was. Downloaded it. Installed it w/ Odin. I almost turned religious when it booted a bit slower than what I remembered. It works well enough now, although I will probably go exchange it for a new one ASAP, before my warranty expires.
If anyone has similar problems. Don't panic and re-install stock firmware.
Cheers Folks!

Look online (samfirmware), ask friends or on forums for anyone who has the SGS2 w/ the same carrier in the same country and try to find the firmware version (I9100***** - the stars are letter codes). Then just download that firmware and use Odin to install it.
If you can't find it,you presumably could just flash any stock firmware and it might work (or it might make things worse, try at your own risk)

The progress bar not moving is a known issue with the CM7 Recovery. All you need to do is wait for it to say that it's finished. There is nothing wrong with your phone and no need to return it. You just cancelled the CM7 install part way through which meant not all required files were installed on the phone, causing it to not boot.
As for it taking longer to boot into android after the odin reflash. That's because it has to build up it's dalvik-cache again. This is completely normal any time you install a new rom. It only happens on first boot of a rom.
So again, no need to return your device and feel free to try CM7 again. Just remember to let it finish even if the progress bar isn't moving.
Ahh. Ok that makes sense. This ought to teach me to read before screwing around w/ my phone.
I wanted to exchange it because I wasnt sure i'd still be able to install official Samsung firmware updates through Kies.
Suppose an official 2.3.4 firmware comes out, would i be able to install it through Kies?

Yes, as long as the firmware you're flashing is the same as the stock version that came on the phone. And even if not, you'll get the kies updates for whatever region firmware you did flash onto the phone.
I see. Thanks a lot!
Is there any danger to flashing firmware from a different region than the one youre from?

[Q] Root in a newbies eyes.

Hello everybody!
I've been messing around, customizing my new SG S II using launchers, icons etc. But I kinda want to take it to the next level and rooting, going for the MiUi rom (http://en.miui.com/).
I have never rooted any android devices before, only playing with jailbroken iPhones. So I know some people on this forum is going to cut me into pieces now, but I really hope someone out there can help me.
I've searching around, unable to find a "simple" guide that can help me. Anyone got a guide out there? Or can help me out, starting from scratch?
Cheers!
First thing I would say is that you have a much better chance of getting a constructive answer if you've shown you've made an effort by providing as much useful information as possible and show you've done the basic research.
If you want to get root for your phone, the first obvious question is what OS are you currently running ?

Well, considering the guy hardly knows how to root his phone, I would hazard a guess that he would still be on Gingerbread. And your being pretty harsh on him, still trying to follow the video we all are forced to watch before we join XDA?
Now Westerhoff, could you please provide your Phone, PDA and CSC by going to your phone dialler and typing in *#1234#. These are needed for Chainfire's CF-Root, which keeps the phone as close to stock as possible, whilst rooting the phone, and adding busybox and ClockworkMod Recovery, which is a life saver for making back ups of your current ROM incase something goes wrong, and to flash a new ROM to your phone, for example, the new Ice Cream Sandwich leaks.
Chris.
#sdunne Sorry for that, but I didn't knew if any information was needed and which ones.
#themadba Thanks, Chris! The Chainfire sounds good, keeping it as close to stock as possible.
Phone: I9100XXLPQ
PDA: I9100XXLPQ
CSC: I9100XXLPD
Just to point out... I am running ICS on my phone.

get this file : http://download.chainfire.eu/152/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5.zip
unzip to get .TAR file, put it in PDA section of the ODIN and flash,
Hope you have already installed drivers, if you have installed KIES then its enough, but make sure not running while using ODIN, check it in your PC system tray...
if you are new using ODIN you can get hints here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13712988&postcount=1
only to select TAR file on PDA
Yes, Zaheedahmed is correct. I'm just curious, how does your phone have ICS on it if you don't really know how to root your phone?
Anyway, you need Odin, which is a flashing tool specifically designed for the SGS2: Just type in "Odin 1.85" without quotations into google and the first result should display "Odin - xdadevelopers - XDA Developers." Click on the link and Odin will download.
Now before going ahead with Odin, download Kies: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/, which is like iTunes for Samsung Devices, the drivers are needed for Odin, but when the drivers have been installed, right click on your toolbar at the bottom of your desktop, I'll assume your running Windows 7, and going to Task Manager. Now find anything with Kies running in the Task Manager, right click on them and kill them.
Kies gets jealous of Odin for being better so it messes up Odin during the flashing process. So make sure you have the drivers installed from Kies and then killed off the Kies Processes.
Finally, lets get the flashing package required to root your phone. Here is the link to Chainfire's LPQ CF-Root: http://download.chainfire.eu/152/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5.zip Also make sure you unzip the file to get your .tar file, Odin won't work with .zip files.
Now go ahead and put your phone into download mode. To do this, turn off your phone normally, wait till it is fully off, then hold down the power, home and down volume button until a warning screen is displayed. Then press the up volume button. If the screen says "In download mode. Do not turn off target" then you have got it!
Now fire up Odin when you have installed it, the Kies Air drivers and killed Kies processes off in Task Manager. Now connect your phone to your computer via your micro usb cable. The ID:COM box should go yellow and say ADDED!! in the box at the left hand side. Now make sure that the only options ticked in Option is Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time AND NOT RE-PARTITION. Now click on the PDA button on the right, and this will open your Explorer window up. Find your XXLPQ CF-Root file, and click ok. Then just click Start. In the top left hand corner, one of the boxes will flash blue (I think so) and then Green. The bottom left hand box will say PASSED!! Your phone will automatically reboot.
When it has, go to your app drawer, and check you have something called either "SuperUser" or "SuperSU." If you do, congratulations your rooted. Another way to check it has been successful is to shut down your phone, and hold the home, power and volume up button. If you get into ClockworkMod Recovery, your great!
Post back with any problems (hopefully not), or your success
Chris.
Thanks both. I'm on a business trip right now and I'm back again friday, I will be posting back with the result there.

Okay, so I'm back from my little trip, and I've just rooted my phone. Succesfully!
I must say it was great guide that helped me out all the way and I didn't find my self "scared" or in doubt of how it would all turn out, through out the process. Thanks a lot!
Now, I got some more questions..
I want to go the the MiUi rom? How do I do that?
Also, if i ever want to return my mobile back to normale, without Root, what to do?
Thanks again you two ;-)

There are a few MIUI roms. There is the original, some other ones in the development section. Which every rom you decide to get, download it, put it into your sd card, boot into cwm, backup everything (nandroid backup), wipe everything and flash the rom. Usually every thread has some instructions in it, so just make sure to read it.
You can just use Odin to flash the stock rom to get it back to normal.
Now thats easy.
You go to this site and you shoul download this file miuiandroid_SGS2-2.4.6.zip
Then you put this file in you internal SD card of your phone.
Then you go to Recovery, you make a Backup of your old rom.
Then you go to wipe data and you pick yes.
Then do to instal from SD card and you choose install from internal sd card, then you chose the file you just transfered to you sd card ando choose it. Let to process finish, choose reboot and wait a little longer for phone to start and there you go.
Any questions just put in here!
Greatings from portugal!
Okay, so I've done it all and my SG SII is now running MiUi. Thanks alot.
However, most of the apps keeps "crashing" - They stopped working.. Is the ROM really that unstable?
Did you restore apps and/or data rather than clean install them ?
Yea. I have no other apps, than the ones coming with the MiUi rom.

Flash a stock rom in Odin.

I was thinking that the rom tcunha87 posted, might be damaged... On the official MiUi community i can't seem to find the ROM for SG SII..
NEVERMIND!!! Just found out they are currently only running GB for the SG SII.

Help! (bell i171m galaxy note)

I'm trying to get my note back to original stock GB so I can ota upgrade to ICS.
I did a complete 'backup' of the original rom before I started messing around, and now, no matter what I do, I can't get that backup to reinstall on the phone.
I've done a lot of searching around, and found many threads about getting notes back to AT&T stock, and am very wary about doing that.
I've also found a few threads about getting back to original bell stock firmware etc, but whenever I run the files through odin, I get wierd errors (some with chinese writing), and just get frustrated.
I liked a few of the custom rom's I found, but the crazy thing, is the spen gestures (specifically the double-tap with button down for quick memos) are just too important to be without. I got the phone for work, and thought those where neat 'features'. Well.. seems I can't live without them.
But NOTHING I can find helps. I've tried methods listed on rootgalaxynote.com to unroot and get back to stock, and everything looks fine till I try either ota updating or kies updating. The phone simply isn't recognized in kies, and the ota update says nothing is available. and I know it IS available, cause I did the upgrade just after it was released, before I did all this custom rom stuff.
I'm start to get at my wits end. I simply want my original stock firmware etc. back on the phone, upgraded to ICS, and then I can just forget about everything else.
Is there anyone that can help?
P.S. if you know of any links I may have overlooked, please just post them. Believe me when I say I've spent well over a week just browsing the forums and google, doing searches etc. Its entirely possible it's something obvious that I just didn't see... with my 3 older kids and a newborn, I'm getting almost zero sleep, and am constantly frazzled. I sometimes don't even realize my wife is talking to me (on the worse days).
Anyways, thanks for anyone's help.

If I'm you I would continue with a custom rom. GNote replaces what you want. You can always install a TW based ROM. What I do is have Gnote as a shortcut on my homescreen. With Gnote I can still write with my Spen. Personally, I'd never use a NON-JB Paranoid ROM. ICS has melted over the summer! Being able to tweak my DPI settings is very important for me for each app. The default DPI and screen layouts are too fricken big, ie; status bar and icons. My eyes are still fine so I don't everything humongous on my screen.
Make sure you have Odin3 v1.85 on your pc. Download the Bell ICS ROM from here:
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/163095548/c1447e9/I717MUGLF4_I717MBMCLF4_BMC.zip.html
Unzip it on your pc. Restart your phone to Download Mode (Hold "Volume Down" and "Power" to start your phone). Once in download mode connect to your pc and start Odin. Put the ROM.MD5 file in the PDA slot that you just unzipped and update away.
This will give you the Bell ICS stock ROM. Better than the OTA when it comes to rooting it. If you have been reading for a week then I am sure you know what that means.
SOLVED
Thanks for the tips/suggestions.
I did a little more reading, and came to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599127
Flashed the kernal/system/recover like it said, and still a nogo. So then I figured wth, lets flash modem too.
BAM. booted it back, and its currently snagging the ota update.
So now that I have the methods and files to get back to stock, I am no longer worried too much about the future. I did have paranoid 2.0 for a while, and was loving it, but the simple idea of doubletapping while in ANY app to get a quick memo was still missing. Maybe after a bit I'll be hating the touchwiz ui yet again, and need a change. But at least I know now how to get back to stock.
Go figure. The thread itself looks vaguely familiar from earlier in the week, but I for some reason must have skipped it. I just got off a nice nap my wife let me have, and HEY... i figured it out. Guess 'sleep' is actually kinda important
Modem is the most important part for having you phone recognized properly for the OTA update. Link I gave you would have given you the update.

Kies desktop connection issue

So I've been a long time creeper, and have come to love the XDA for the resources that it offers. I have found many answers to all my questions android related!
I'm very wet behind the ears when it comes to android stuff. I've only rooted my tablet, and i717, nothing major.
However, I have started to become more ambitous as of late and have tried flashing new roms onto my note, and I have been hooked ever since.
So here is my story now.
A few months ago, I flashed flapjaxx rom onto my note. Didn't back things up so I lost everything, at this time I didn't care, so I rebuilt my contacts and all my other important stuff. After a while I noticed it wasn't running nearly as smooth so I found a stock rom and went back to normal. Life was good, and then I got the itch again to try something new. I saw the new flapjaxx rom, but I had since learned my lesson and backed up everything on my phone with kies desktop and then proceeded to flash the new rom. Well long story short, I screwed up my phone, and it wouldn't load past the samsung logo, I used this website to figure out a solution and now I am running smooth once again.
BUT! This is where the issue arises. Ever since upgrading my rom from a stock Rogers rom to flapjaxx, I cannot connect to kies desktop to restore all my contacts, photos etc....
any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to talking to many of you!
uninstall Kies, reboot pc, and reinstall Kies, use stock Samsung charging cable.
The cable actually makes a difference? I don't have a stock cable anymore. It got bent ages ago so I've been using my hp touch pad rapid charger for months now.

There are a couple of reasons that the device fails to be recognized by kies, since you have made changes too the device.
the first, and usually the most common, is the "unsecured root privleges" issue......this simply means that kies, has detected the unlocked device, and see's this as a security issue, then fails to connect the device...
The next issue is the rom itself. Often times, kies will see the modified firmware image, and refuse to connect the device due to the unrecognized data, device firmware ID etc.
The work arounds are pretty simple, as you can use Odin, to push images directly to the device, and if you have the correct USB drivers on your PC, Odin does not care what software, or firmware images you have.
And besides, almost all software is now pushed to the device by .zip file in recovery anyway. and you simply dont need kies unless you are doing a factory emergency restore, or wanting to use the kies backup method..(backup of data can be done through your recovery, without the need for a PC connection anyway) We call it a nandroid backup, and they are fast.....
I dont use kies, as I feel that it's interface is poor at best, and we can accomplish exactly the same thing using CWM/TWRP recovery, and Odin.
In cases of needing a factory restore to the device image, I prefer to send folks too samfirmware.com..
the process always works, and we dont see nearly the trouble using it...
You should continue to read up in the "note super everything thread", as it contains more info on these issues than you can imagine......
I hope this helps you out a bit......g
So here is the million dollar question then, since my existing backup is with Kies, how can I restore my contacts at least? I assume I can't simply use nandroid and it will restore my phone, is there a patch through from kies to nandroid?
Or is there a way to locate the backup file generated by Kies, and then somehow decompile it and restore my phone another way?

So here is the million dollar question then, since my existing backup is with Kies, how can I restore my contacts at least? I assume I can't simply use nandroid and it will restore my phone, is there a patch through from kies to nandroid?

Are your contacts not synced with google ??
All of my contacts return too me, after flashing a new build, as soon as I sync with google the first time. Of course, you have to enable sync in your settings, but after that initial sync, you will get them back, even if you dont want too...LOL
I'm not aware of how to strip contacts from kies, as i'm "sure" their formatting is different from anyone else....
the only way I'm aware of at this point, would be to push a factory image from Odin, kies, or samfirmware, and allow the stock image/device to be seen. Then restore the backup to the device, sync with google to transfer them, and ....basically start all over again...(sigh)
I know...it's a pain in the A**....thats why I dont use kies to backup anything........g
Edit: kies is geared toward a pure stock device, and they make it difficult to use the device if it's been altered in any way regarding software.....g

Just another thought...
If you have "ever" synced your device contacts to google, you can go to the google website, and open up the contacts for your phone number.
There may even be the option to push them to the device from google, or you could at least copy and reload them from there......g

[Q] Borked i717

I'm a casual enthusiast who has always rooted his Android phones without an issue but have run into problems with an i717 I recently bought. I've gone through quite a bit of troubleshooting over the past few days and am beaten and must ask for help. When I first bought the phone, it was woefully out of date so using Kies, I updated the phone. All was good and phone was up to 4.0.4 (or whatever the most current version is) and working perfectly unrooted. At that point, I rooted it using qbking77 instructions on YouTube. Per RootChecker I was rooted but noticed I couldn't connect to the internet without WiFi. At this point, the trains went off the track as I tried to install a stock 4.0.4 modem which didn't work, panicked and used Da_G's [Stock ODIN] ROM trying to get back to stock. At this point, I started getting error messages like "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly", something similar about calendar, phone won't work, etc. Also, when I go into recovery mode, I can navigate up and down with the volumes keys but can't select anything with the power key and after about 10 seconds, it goes to an ominous screen with a red triangle and exclamation point. Phone stats currently are:
Android 2.3.6
Baseband: I717UCLF6
Kernel: 2.6.35.11
Gingerbread.UCLA1
In any case I'm really bummed as I just bought this phone on Monday and have already borked it. Any help appreciated and unfortunately I am not familiar with all of the acronyms and nomenclature around here so direct links to helpful post would be useful. At this point, I just want to get to the most current stock AT&T ROM possible. Thanks in advance for your help.
I'd start here >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504218 and also read this >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330 both links are a good start and should work for your situation.

Thanks for the response and as I indicated above, I have tried Da_G's methods in the 2nd link multiple times with no success. I'll go through the steps in the first link and see what happens. I am looking for something to wipe the phone completely clean as there is not a thing on it I need. Hopefully these will do the business. One thing that I am not able to sort out is how to tell if a ROM comes with a modem, how to tell from the settings on my phone if a proper modem is installed and if I need to install a modem, how to tell which is the correct modem for the ROM installed. I have read quite a bit on modems but there is just so much information I'm honestly a little confused. Thanks again for your input and I'll post up results later tonight when I have time to troubleshoot.
Looks like you are on a GB rom (2.3.6) with ICS (4.0.4) modem. You can flash a GB modem or use KIES firmware upgrade and initialization to put you back to completely stock ICS (UCLF6)

Title says GB because that was the latest supported ROM at the time of posting. This will put you back to stock UCLF6.

I had a feeling it had something to do with the modem. I did a search for GB modems and am overwhelmed by the amount of options! I found this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764210 but am unsure what the numerical designators are; EL 26, EL29, etc. Do these make a difference for what I am trying to do? Thanks for posting up and helping out. Can't wait to get home and get this damn phone sorted out.
Forget the modem -- there's no such thing as a GB or ICS modem -- they are independent of the android version.
What you have is the LATEST modem, so that part is OK.
The crazy error messages you're getting are from multiple flashes without cache wipes and system wipes.
The LF6 is year and month of release in samsungese.
Did you install a custom recovery, like CWR or TWRP?
That's your first move toward a good phone.

I didn't knowingly install a custom recovery unless it was built into a ROM I installed as the phone was new to me and I didn't have any data on it I felt I needed to be recovered. I now have the feeling that this isn't the type of recovery "custom recovery" is used for. I can get into "Android system recovery" through vol+/- and power if that is what you are talking about but like my original post mentioned, I can thumb up and down through the options with the volume keys but can't select anything with the power key. I was able to select with the power button upon originally installing the first 2 ROMs so I don't believe it is a hardware issue with the button. How do I tell if I have a custom recovery installed and what are the steps to take if I don't. Pardon my ignorance but I always assumed there was a way to completely wipe these devices and start over as long as you could access the device through Windows. I have nothing on this phone to save and just want to get it back to stock. I wish I could get Kies to allow me to factory reset but I keep getting the "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update through Kies". I know we are encouraged to read and learn on our own but as in any forum this size, there is quite a bit of ambiguous information available and I am frankly lost and it also doesn't help that I seem to be having multiple issues at once. If the modem is okay, and I don't have a custom recovery installed, what is the next step? Again, thanks to all of you taking the time to help out! I know what it's like to have a passion for something and the ability to help others work their way out of issues, mine just happens to be carbureted Japanese motorcycles, not phones!
Ignore the "your device current firmware" message in KIES. Open KIES, Put your phone in download mode, connect to PC , in KIES, select tools, firmware upgrade and initialization, enter your model (SGH-I717), it will ask for the serial number so have it handy, and continue through the prompts as outlined in the aforementioned post. KIES will completely reset your device to UCLF6. (Recovery, modem, system, etc.) You will be stock un-rooted when complete.

Well thanks to rsfinsrq's advice, the phone appears to be restored! No more error messages and everything seems to be running smoothly but I still can't get internet connectivity without WiFi. I can send/receive texts and calls but no internet browsing, Google Play, etc. Under Settings-->About Phone-->Status-->Mobile Network State is listed as "Disconnected". What could be causing this? I am leery to go poking around with it this soon but would like to get the full use of the phone. Thoughts?

Reading a little more on this, it seems this might be an issue with my AT&T plan and this particular device. I'll run by the AT&T store tomorrow to see if I can get it sorted. If anyone does have any additional suggestions, post them up!

I checked that first and it is enabled. I toggled it off, restarted phone and then toggled it back on and still nothing. Like I said, I'll check with AT&T tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks again for taking the time to help.

Same spot, go to access point names, hit the menu button and reset to default.
Mystery solved! A trip to the AT&T store and I was told the lack of connectivity was due to my SIM card not being provisioned for an LTE enabled phone and it was "confusing" the network. 5 minutes spent getting a new SIM card and I was out the door, no muss no fuss and my very first positive experience with AT&T customer service. I guess there is a first for everything! Thanks again to everyone who helped out and I will definitely make sure I am a little more educated the next time I root and flash a ROM. Any suggestions for a stable ROM for me to start with?
Glad to hear you got it sorted out!
