I rememeber back in the OG Evo days we had a few ports of different versions of Sense. Was wondering if anyone is currently working on any. Asking because just got my replacement 3D from Assurion and updated to ICS & Sense 3.6. And I have to say WOW! It's like a whole different phone and it just reminds me just how much Sense 4 blows! No lag, real multitasking... I can't believe this is the same phone from a year ago. Sense 3.6 on the LTE would be perfect. Sense 4 is the worst creation ever.

LOL! But honestly I don't really see any improvements. Looks almost the same but 3.6 runs wayyy smoother and it has "real" multitasking. Not this pitiful excuse that HTC threw into 4. I think 3.6 with our specs would be better. Used to love Sense until this version. Guess its back to Apex and Fancy widgets.
Those sense ports were sense upgrades. Nobody spends time going backwards

Everything you're saying is just... wrong. 3.6 definitely wouldn't be smoother. 3.6 would not run any better on our specs than Sense 4.0 does.
I can't wait for someone to fix this multitasking so that people can stop *****ing about it. I'm seriously getting sick of it. If you don't like it, find a way to fix it yourself, run AOSP, or get a different phone. Complaining endlessly about how the multitasking isn't perfect isn't doing a damn thing. We know that it's a problem. But it seems like we have a handful of threads every day of people complaining about it. And guess what? It doesn't contribute one bit to fixing it.

Well in the case of this thread, the OP was using multitasking as a reason to ask whether 3.6 ports were possible. Not just to complain. And honestly, I find it to be a valid argument if the inferior EVO 3D can run 3.6 smoother than our phones run 4.0. That makes no sense!

Have you actually played around with a updated 3D running 3.6 & ICS? Didn't think so. I installed the same apps on both phones & have been testing it out for the past few hours & I can say without a doubt that the 3D is wayyyy smother than the LTE running 4. Not just flicking the screen but opening apps and all around performance.

I bought a Vista computer soon as it was released and was back on XP within a couple days? Why? Because at that time XP worked wayyyy better than Vista. Your analogy isn't right. Just because something is a upgrade doesn't mean it works better. Now eventually they got the bugs worked out of Vista and it was better but not in the begining. Which is what I am seeing with Sense 4 when compared with 3.6.

That's why I didn't use Vista to XP as an example. If you have brand new computer right now with Windows 7 on it, and you're getting a free upgrade to Windows 8 when it releases (knowing nothing about problems that may occur), would you really take the computer and run VISTA of all operating systems? No, I wouldn't.

Why isnt it? Each was an upgrade from a previous version. I don't know who would go back to 3.0 from 3.6 but I know a whole lot of people who went back to XP from Vista. The bottom line is "IMO" 3.6 runs better on the 3D than our LTE runs 4.0 Not too mention I don't see what if any real improvements 4 brought to table over 3.6. If anything it screwed stuff up. If it was possible I for one would hop back to 3.6 in a flash. You can keep this ram hogging, broken multitasking 4 version.

Well then, smooth to you means differently to what smooth actually means.
And it's not that it's wrong to complain about something that isn't perfect about a phone. But we know that it's a problem. That doesn't mean we have to like it. That doesn't mean that it isn't a bad thing. But complaining about it endlessly serves absolutely no purpose.
"Not working as advertised" is also a misguided statement, as it was never advertised that the phone would be completely perfect and devoid of software errors that can presumably be fixed.
It's the complaining that has to stop. Every single member of this forum is aware of the multitasking issue. It's been discussed to hell and back. It's time to acknowledge that we're all aware of this and either try to find a way to fix it or just shut up about it.
And I find it humorous how 9 out of 10 people here rant and rave about how they don't need stock and the developers here are better than HTC and so on and so forth but they'll still complain about problems that a stock phone has. You have different ways of dealing with this problem and you have the tools to prevent this from happening (for example, AOSP) and yet you still complain. And again, that solves nothing.

I would be a pretty penny that someone on either this site or on Craigslist is willing to trade you an EVO 3D for your EVO 4G LTE if you want to go that route. The fact of the matter is, the developers we have probably aren't going to waste a lot of time (that, in all fairness, will be required) trying to develop a downgraded version of Sense for this phone. Unless you can convince one of the developers that it's a good idea, or pay him/her to make this request possible, you'll need to learn to code it yourself and make it work. The majority of this board is anticipating Android 4.1 with whatever new perks HTC throws in when that update arrives, not about adding a last-gen overlay to a next-gen device.

Fair enough. That was the original point of the post anyway. Seeing if it was possible to port another version of Sense. Then everyone got up in arms like they personally coded Sense 4 and was somehow offended because it is extremely flawed. Oh and if the HTC perks are anything like what we got with ICS on this phone I wouldn't hold my breath.

I pick my phones based on hardware. I'm not a fan of Sense, Widgets, and the like. That's why I'm here. I have an Android phone I can customize the way I like. That's why most people are here. Try to embrace that rather than judging people based on your feelings/convictions. That's what people that enjoy products from a certain "fruit themed company" do.
i think people need to stop complaining and/or stfu about sense already, it's getting old. we get it, you don't like sense. hooray for you. it seems the new "hip" thing to do is hate on sense, seriously. it's so god damn annoying to read. sense isn't going anywhere, so get over it. motoblur isn't going anywhere, and neither is any other manufactorers OS. stock android is ugly as sin, and ICS looks like a toy. atleast sense is going to bring visual appeal to ICS, whereas comparing ICS to iOS makes the nexus look like a toy.
tl;dr: shut up about sense, it's not going anywhere, and it's annoying to constantly read peoples hatred towards it. get over it.

I am new to Xda and HTC phones myself and I do like sense. The short time I have been on this site, I have noticed and strangely I might add. People seem to get way to hostile over the Sense vs Asop debate. People have different tastes and what they like and its just as much their choice as anything so why be condescending or hostile over their choice.
The reason I bought the rezound myself was hardware or I would have gotten the Gnex , because I like to mod and play around with different roms. Sense was a bonus for me , because to me its just a theme I can flash or not
Mr Smith is nothing , but courteous and helpful in the 2 forums I have been on so no reason to drag his choice into the debate.
android is about choice. thats why it is different from all other brands/os.
the software can always be changed/rewritten, but you are stuck with the hardware.
like mrsmith i choose my phones based on hardware. i also happen to like sense so that i why i went with the rezound.
thats not so sat that i don like asop. i ran CM7 on my TB for that past 3 months, sense simply has more "polish" and "eye camdy" that i enjoy
personally i hope sense slims down a bit and some of the bloat and useless apps disappear, but finally they realize that beats audio should work for third party apps.
once my rezound is outdated, i will most likely end up with another HTC phone and it will be a 1.5 ghz quad core, 1 GB ram, 8/3 mp camera 10 mm thick sense 4.0 android 4.0 powered monster

I'm on this phone because it is the best phone on the market right now. It doesn't matter to me one bit what comes on the phone (Sense, blur, touchwiz, etc) except that sometimes (as it was with the Rezound initially) its impossibly hard to get rid of.
Now that I have removed like 95% of Sense/HTC related software from the system, installed my launcher of preference, I am extremely happy with my phone and battery life. I'm so glad I didn't get anything else on the market right now.
So there you have it... I picked out this phone because of the phone, not because of the manufacturer or whatever crap bloatware that particular manufacturer decided to burden us with. And just cause other people are sick of reading about how crappy Sense is does not mean I'm going to like it anymore or withhold my thoughts on the subject for their benefit. Negative reviews of a product are just as important as positive reviews.

Just my opinion so don't burn me for it but I don't think we should just be okay with getting ripped and only getting sense 3.6 and them releasing sense 4 just a few months after our phone even though ics was already out when our phones were released and sense 4 in the works and I'm pretty sure if we were to all put our thoughts about it on the HTC facebook page we might be able to stirr this up and maybe actually get somewhere. I agree it wouldn't hurt to try but if VZW/HTC really hold their promise of providing Rezound users with ICS, there is nothing we should have an issue with. I am happy we're getting ICS period to be honest.
Stock ICS over Sense 4.0 would be really nice but since it likely won't happen I'll keep supporting our Devs to bring us the latest and greatest.
Us not getting Sense 4 officially is just one reason why to be thankful for devs.
What does sense 4 have that 3.6 doesn't that we can take advantage of? We don't have the new camera with image sense and beats integration apparently is more than a software setting. We have the customizable dock so what else is there?
Sent from my Rezound using Tapatalk
The reason the Rezound won't get Sense 4.0 is that there are features in 4.0 that are specific to the hardware in the HTC One Series devices. Because of the differences between those devices and all other handsets preceding them a redesign of Sense was necessary. HTC isn't trying to screw anyone here and VZW had no decision in this matter. A petition won't do any good. We haven't even seen a changelog for Sense 3.6 yet or a side by side comparison of 4.0 so it's a bit premature to be upset that the Rezound won't get 4.0.
I don't care whether we get it or not but apparently a lot of others do.
I really don't care if we get it or not because our devs will eventually prefect it anyways.

That is a pretty good reason if you ask me. Probably would really help out the battery life too. I've easily doubled my battery life since tossing most of Sense 3.5 out.
Anyways, to answer the OP's question: YES. If you want Sense 4.0 officially because you're not willing to root and flash a ROM, then of course you should try to do something about it. The ONLY reason we arent getting Sense 4 is because they are leaving it exclusive to their upcoming devices, so they can use it as a selling point. If you don't think thats fair, you SHOULD say something. Don't expect anybody to listen... but you never know.
Was it just coincidence that HTC silently allowed Rezound on HTC Dev Unlock just a week or so after the petition was started? Maybe, but it could just as easily have been BECAUSE of the petition. I say there is no reason not to give it a shot.

I figure it has to happen really soon, because I am not sure when virgin is releasing their evo3d, but boost is releasing their evo design on the 31st, and their website says it will have 4.0.... There is no way in hell a boost or virgin HTC phone will get ics before sprint ones do

I love it. If you're rooted try out myn's RLS2, it really is nice and smooth.

I was running it today and it was pretty good, I'm looking forward to warm four dot zero. 3.6 has amazing battery life and sense 4 has fluidity and a new taste. I'm not a fan of 3.0 with ics, but that battery life is amazing. I got about 10 hours before I got to 10% and I'm a pretty heavy user (a lot of Facebook and Voxer over 3g). Usually my phone would last 8 or 7 hours before it died.
yeah but you will never be free of sense... i'm getting the nexus **** htc, motorola, and any other piece of **** manufacturer out there. although samsung makes the nexus... which is weird since google owns motorola mobility.. ahh i don't understand! Lol

they are just playing fair with other manufacturers - otherwise moto would make all nexus's and samsung/htc/lg/etc. would all moan about it
Ics hit like the new coke on the street cause the evo ed forums jumpin again lol

I'm not using a Sense 4.0 ROM (using CleanROM atm), but you are right -- it's like a whole new phone with ICS. I was considering upgrading to a different phone just out of sheer phone boredom, but this ICS has shown me the 3D is still viable for a lot longer.

The Nexus is ok at best, I've tried it and can honestly say that the SII, 3D, and even Note feel more comfortable for usability. Sure, the stock ICS is fluid and is designed around the capabilities of the Nexus, but in the end, you're still playing with a black banana phone with a goofy curved screen.
Sense 4.0 is a huge change over 3.6. If you haven't tried newts Rom do it. 3d and 4g aren't working but you really won't miss them. Although I am surprised that no one has ported the EVO 4g LTE Rom to our device yet. It would be nice to have a full cmda sense 4.0 Rom.

I think it's pretty simple to be free from Sense if that's your preference... get a different phone and stop complaining.
Most people that buy HTC do so because they like Sense UI, above all other factory UI variations... Sense 4 is the best one yet. TouchWiz, MotoBlur, and everything else don't even compare.

Totally agree newt one s was pure sexy. Loved it but had to go back to 3.6 because I need my bluetooth talk driving company vehicle. Can't wait till the 4g lte Roms hit. Sense 3.6 is a nice improvement from our 3.0 but 4.0 is superb.

Once ICS comes out officially, what do you guys think the chances are of having a fully functional ICS Sense 4.0 rom? I'm new to HTC and Sense and aren't really sure how complicated it would be to port it to the EVO 3D.

Well, dev's have successfully ported over some sense ROM's with higher versions of android and Sense Software. Can someone manage to port over Sense 1.0, like the OG EVO has ATM. I am willing to test everything out, it can't be that hard, right?
Sense 1.0 was the original sense on the HTC hero I believe and was android 1.5
Why would you want that?

You know what? I thought of that a longgg time ago but never said anything cuz I thought I'd get flamed lol...that would be really interesting though I wonder how the battery would be too
I don't believe any version of sense below 3.0 was made for qhd devices. Therefore to port an older version of sense would require a lot of re-sizing and m10 editing I believe. I think someone would have to be really dedicated to the project to put in the time required. That being said, I think sense 2.1 would run extremely well on this phone. The downsides would be that you'd have to run gingerbread, you'd lose some features, and of course the tedious re-sizing of many of the images. The idea is interesting though!
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
what about just using an AOSP rom? you get 4.0, NO overlay (so faster), and there are already people working on it.
Sense
What about using other launchers, like GO and others?
IMO a monumental waste of good development time that can be better spent with ICS and soon to be JellyBean. We did everything we could to get rid of it on the Hero as fast as possible. We ported 3.5 and never looked back.
Just my 2 pennies. If someone did put the work into it. Kudos. But I sure am not going to.

Let's go super retro (relatively speaking) and get a home/launcher that's like TouchFLO on the Touch Diamond 2! I thought that was awesome when I had that phone.
Windows Mobile wasn't all bad.

Kinda agree with nineinch and drachen. If u really want to go that far back just use a senseless Rom. The android 1.5 and sense 1.0 is really such a step back that aosp should give u the speed your looking for and actually look better. And I am a huge sense fan saying this
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Ehh, not that amazing...
I've thought of this before, but in the end it's not really worth it. Sense 4 is really an improved sense 2.1.

You're basically asking for us to take body and engine off a Ferrari 458 and put them on a Toyota Corolla's chassis.
A) It's not that simple, B) You'd have a horrific time getting it to work and C) It most likely won't be a pleasant experience.

I've thought about pulling down the Donut branch from AOSP and testing it on these modern devices.
It was arguably the fastest Android flavor ever. I remember going to Eclair from Donut and feeling let down by the speed, requiring a faster processor.
Cool idea OP on doing Sense 1.0
Ok, I'm sure going backwards on a device is just as hard as forward if there have never been drivers for it but it sure would be nice. CM7 would be an improvement. If my og wasn't so worn out I would be back on it but it's not dependable enough. (loose connection Somewere. Shuts down in my pocket sometimes).
So here is my question. Is it possible to build a gb rom without source from htc?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I would LOOOOOOVE to put Gingerbread on my EVO LTE! As it stands right now, I've deemed my phone as a worthless POS... seriously the worst new phone experience I've ever had.
Why the hell would you ever go backwards? We have working cm10....and you want to go back to cm7?

I really don't want to go into the reasons for not liking ics or jb. The OG run so good on Gb this updated hardware would sprout wings.

You realize they'd have to do all the same things to get gb running that they'll have to do for perfectly working jb. Same amount of work

And this phone runs damn well on JB, plus JB is infinitely more smooth thanks to Project Butter.
If you want to do something as foolish as running an ugly, old, simpler build of Android on a phone that runs ICS and beyond flawlessly in hopes of it somehow improving the experience, I suggest you do research and figure out how to do it yourself because no one will waste time on that.

I feel like if this EVO were to run GB it would be worse. Too much work, no Hardware Acceleration AT ALL (Which makes a huge difference) and plus an ugly UI. If I truly felt the need to go back to that I would just flash CM7 on my DROID INC.

Wow I'm so glad your opinion carry so much weight. Ugly? Old? Really? EVO lte running flawlessly? Oh that'd be why it reboots playing a simple vid that was recorded from my old phone. Or why it can't keep an app in memory for 5 freaking minutes when I navigate away from it.
As for hardware acceleration. Gb didn't need it. Try running ics without it.
I didn't ask anyone to build it for me. My post plainly ask if it were possible. Maybe to spark another topic. But this bashing narrow minded xda today is exactly the reason devs leave. Just how many versions of the same damn ruu that already has problems do we need anyway. GB isn't a worse version, just different.

I don't care about going back to gingerbread myself, but I would think that the source for CM7 would still be out there. I would recommend checking here, I've found it to be a valuable resource.
Yes of course source is still out there. Problem being if OP could compile AOSP from source he would know where to find it
Compiling GB would be buggy as hell on the LTEVO, and IMO a waste of time.

That is Sense, not ICS. You have to compare stock GB to ICS before going "GB is clearly better" HTC phones have Sense on top of it and different versions of Sense affect different things. Try out the CM10 build and (apart from the obvious early build bugs) I assure you you will be impressed. Just wait it out until it becomes a fully working stock JB ROM and it will run better than a pure GB build on our device.
As far as whether it's possible to build or not, it is possible, however I doubt many devs would be interested in making this a reality considering the vast improvements that ICS and JB have over GB.
Stock ICS != Sense 4 ICS please understand that ICS is not as bad as Sense makes it and while I don't like Sense, this new version -- other than the multitasking -- is not as intrusive as previous ones.
Also, make sure you search before making a new post :
Gingerbread?
