Sendin back RZ with custom ROM. - HTC Rezound

In the past I've sent back phones to VZ with custom stuff on it with no issue after receiving a replacement. Does anyone know if this is still the case?

if you can get into hboot then i would ruu just to be safe. if you cant get the phone to boot or anything then you should be fine.

If he locks the bootloader and installs the stock ics RUU, then he might not even need to send it back to verizon, unless he has a hardware problem.

had the same problem with my number 2 rez.
i would go back to stock with an ruu before returning it. if you dont they do have the right to deny you a replacement because root voids warranty.

[Q] Flashed SBF, installed CYNGNMOD, now I need to send back. Help!?

Hey all. I hate nothing more than looking around for problems I have with my stuff and then finding a forum post that shows the exact problem and then someone saying, "fixed it" and nothing more. So this is how I fixed the problem.
Basically I have no clue if i actually flashed a new bootloader. I couldn't care less. What I did was flash this SBF file using RDS Lite (ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE VERY CAREFUL WITH SBFs - Easy bricking!)
found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944 First SBF in the thread.
By reflashing that I have successfully removed the "unlocked" text at the top when booting the phone. Did I actually unlock the phone? I have no clue. But I feel confident enough to walk into an ATT store tomorrow and ask for a replacement.
Is there anyone out there that knows if it's possible for them to see at this point? Or by flashing that SBF did I completely put the phone to stock and make it identical to before I unlocked/rooted? Thanks!

If you unlocked your phone you "blow" a fuse, its irreversible as it PHYSICALLY blows a fuse, nothing to do with software. They can check if you have unlocked the bootloader before by checking the values of the ReservedODM. To quote eval-,
"You can view the state of your ReservedOdm by looking at /sys/firmware/fuse/ReservedOdm, if you are root. Mine looks like this:
10000000000010001000100004000
(before unlock:
10000000000010001000100000000)"
As you can see, unlocking your phone cannot be undone, but it is highly unlikely they will check.

I'm only concerned because as I understand this voids the warranty, yes?
I'm going to go to an ATT store tonight an exchange this phone for another one (I've had some random crashes not caused by software). I assume my current phone will be sent to a repair factory somewhere. Will they check this then? Will they then bill my account for it? Or will I be safe?

You should be alright. They rarely do check the fuses.
I've sent mine in twice and they fixed it both times. my fuse was "blown" and I was not charged. you should be okay.

Okay so I went to 2 different stores and they spread misinformation but the basic idea is I cannot do this exchange in store because it's a refurbished unit.
So they're sending me an alternate refurbished unit. And i'm sending this unit back.
Do I still have nothing to fear? Will they bill my account when I send them a device with the fuse blown?

You'll be fine, just flash gingerbread to remove unlocked. I sent my phone straight to Motorola under warranty and they repaired it without question. My issues were in no way related to flashing tho (fingerprint scanner and digitizer). I don't think you voided it from what I read you did, just put stock firmware back on it.

What should I do before taking a rooted phone in for repair?

My power button is acting up more and more. I have to press it 3 time on average to get the screen to turn off.
I am HBoot 1.4 revolutionary rooted. I have the sprint protection plan and would like to get this fixed.
I don't know what is best to do. Flash a stock ROM and take it in or un root and take it in.
What do the XDA-gods think is best when dealing with sprint repair?

Flash the newest RUU you can find. It'll updates your bootloader to 1.5 but you'll still be S-off.

Ya you shouldn't have a problem with sprint seeing your rooted they don't care. Just make sure they don't swap your phone out .. Somtimes they do... Well my store does can be a pain in the ass if you wanna keep the one you have..
I was just wondering if sprint would kick it back if they saw s-off. What are the chances they would boot into hboot and see that it is s-off?

Very slim ... I wouldn't worry about it worst thing they would do is say to unroot it .. But for a power button issue I don't think you will have a problem.
Most stores honestly won't really go looking for evidence of root unless they suspect that you've actually caused your problems by doing so.... Obviously, hardware issues don't even come close.
Thanks. Anyone have a link for a stock ROM? It is running a ruu best?

When I worked in repair at corporate we dealt with all kinds of problems, software, hardware, customer information mostly.
Sprint actually recycles their phones, taking working parts off returns and replacing them, never would they check hboot.
Most of the techs know nothing unfortunately, they run a standard check, none of which entails checking for root.
The biggest thing they look for is water damage/corrosion all they will do is try replacing your power button, which prolly will work, otherwise your looking at a refurbished replacement.

a lot of techs dont even look for s off... most people dont even know what it means.
throw a stock ROM on it... boot it once to make sure all is good. you don't need to flash all the updates. stock rom, stock kernel will do. nothing else would effect the power button not working anyways. that is either hardware or kernel related.

I would go with hardware related Also the button on the back plate could be worn out I have seen em stick to go screwy..
OP have you taken your battery door off and pressed the button with your finger nail or a pencil for the hell of it..

Flashing a stock (rooted) rom, is what I was going for.
Removing the back cover and using my nail, works. Putting the cover back on, it starts doing the same thing. The screen turns off, then comes right back on. Seems it is the cover not the physical button.
Thanks to all

Yes it will......flashing any ROM whether stock or custom without superuser/supersu = unrooting your phone.

You can I guess be "unrooted" while running a stock ROM, but you'd still have S-off so you could just flash something else afterwards.

Its from mashing your power button too many times while flashing Roms in recovery! You flash crackhead you! =P Its like rubbing one too many out in one day, after a while it starts to sting, now imagine how your poor phone feels. =[ lollll

What problems was your wifi having? Mine will show my Wifi at home until I try and connect to it, then it shows it as "not in range". Also my bluetooth is not seen by and will not show any other devices. Does yours have that same issue?

[Q] com.android.phone has stopped

My DNA has just started popping up the message "com.android.phone has stopped" and crashing the dialer every time I try to make a call. It worked fine for the first couple weeks I had it, and still works fine apart from making calls. 4G works and I get data. I've tried re-inserting the SIM, doing a factory reset, flashing RUU, and I just got back from the Verizon store where the swapped out the SIM. Nothing has fixed it.
Before I call the VZ warranty department I thought I'd post here and see if anyone had an idea. I'm a little worried they'll see my "Relocked/Tampered" bootloader and tell me I'm SOL. :/
Hmm...that didn't work I think there's a tread about this issues somewhere around here

Just to be clear, my "new" phone is actually "recertified like-new". And I have to send the old one back or pay full price for it. And if they find evidence of damage or tampering on the old phone I'll get charged $300. But yeah, aside from that it was pretty easy.
Guys, i am having the same problem! On every call i get com.android.phone has stopped ! Does anyone had the same and found a solution?!
I tried 3 custom roms(viper hatka and another one) no work, reflashed back to stock, problem remains!
I am also living overseas! Is this a problem?
Just out of curiosity, do you still have the little flap covering your microUSB port? I got annoyed with mine and yanked it out...now I'm wondering if it damaged the antenna.
I have removed it too, no way this thing can affect the operation!
It has to do with someone on you facebook or contacts has a birthday on Feb 29 find out which one it is delete the contact sync for that person or change the birthday
Thanks for the reply, have you experienced the same problem in htc DNA?
The solution you are giving is kinda strange, as i haven't passed any contacts or fb account to my mobile and the problem persists. Of course, i had done this one in the past, lets check what you just said, thanks!

any resolutions?
has anyone been able to resolve this? after S-OFF, i'd hoped that flashing the new radio may work, but it didn't. i've formatted every partition and then resintalled every rom i can think of, to no avail. sucks!!
I had stock rom, unlocked, rooted, flashed viper and had the problem. Flashed different roms, the same. Returned to stock RUU, the same. Reflashed, the same. Unlocked, rooted again, and flashed viper again, and voila, the problem solved!

If RUUing doesnt help it then it might be a hardware related issue and its getting that error because the software can not communicate with the hardware... possibly? maybe? just an idea

Sending back to LG to fix my USB

So, my usb in my phone is tweaking and tripping out. It burned out 3 of my chargers. Official LG chargers at that and I tried to clean it so it fixed it for a while now if it doesnt sit perfect, it'll say its not a strong enough charger. So, I'm sending back to LG. I'm rooted and have TWRP. Should I flash back to stock before I send it even though its a hardware issue?

Yep I totally agree. The update hasn't even "officially" hit (outside of a couple people claiming to have already gotten it - so it'll likely be soon), but over in the 23A release thread about page 16 or 18 give or take there was some official confirmation that it indeed is still possible Thank goodness lol
I restored it by the graces of the USB gods that allowed the port to work lol and then shipped it off. Should be there later today.
