Modded CM7 Contacts App
NOTICE:Some users reported bugs such as a yellow square appearing instead of contact pics in the call log. My diagnosis says the problem is apk-specific, by that I mean that your ROM might be a little different than mine and thus, the bug appears.
Go to the tutorial part of this thread for a modding tutorial you can follow in order to mod the Contacts apk of your own ROM.
INTRO
Hello everybody,
This is a mod I had to make in order to solve some problems with the Xperia S Theme AChep and I are making.
DIFFERENCE
The difference of this app from the original CM7 Contacts app is the dialpad. You may have noticed that the digit buttons in the original Contacts app have a slight distance between each other. All this mod does, is that it deletes that space between the buttons.
Note: The mod affects only the T9 enabled dialpad. The T9 disabled dialpad, though, does have some space between buttons (see screenshots below).

Warning: The dialpad has NO difference from the original one at first look. The screenshots below DO NOT resemble this mod. These are merely some changes I made so you can see the difference!

NOTES
Although this is a mod to fix the Xperia S Theme problems, it might also look good with other themes. If not, just install the Undo zip.
This is only for MDPI screen devices.
Also, this is for CyanogenMod 7.2. Other releases will give you visual glitches.
If your Rom is odexed, please delete the Contacts.odex file before flashing.

Undo Zip
Flash normally with CWM Recovery

You can follow this guide to mod your ROM's Contacts apk.
__________________________________________________
Extract the Contacts.apk from you ROM
Explore the content of the app with an archiver such as WinRar or 7Zip
Go to "res" > "layout-finger"
Find "dialpad.xml" and delete it
Download the modded layout from here
Drag it into the same folder
If it is asked, change the compression mode to "Store"
Exit the archiver program, we're done with modding the apk
Transfer the apk to system/app/ in your phone
Set permissions
Delete Contacts.odex if there is any
Reboot

I'm afraid GDX v022 uses an old version of the contacts app. This whole T9 prediction came up and, AFAIK, GDX has some link to that. I think that might be the cause.

Just a question ..
I recently edited string and arrays files in the contacts,mms and phone.apks from a deodexed cm7 rom for translation to another language.after i recompile and reinsert into rom should i delete the corresponding odex files..?

Hmm.. Chris. Since you modded this app, is it possible to.. like change the tab buttons at the top to the bottom? This is how it should look anyway...

Since I flashed the zip,a weird square appears at the call logs...near the name,i flashed the undo zip but nothing happened??Does anybody know how to make the square disapear??
