where is 4g toggle? I tried downloading a widget for it, it didnt work. on my old evo, and evo 3d, there was a mobile internet toggle, wifi toggle, and 4g toggle, I could get service from all 3 (wifi provided I was near a router obviously), but now I only see 3g in the drop down bar. network mode is set to lte/cdma. is it possible my area doesnt have LTE yet, so I cannot receive 4g signal at all? even so, then why isn't there a separate toggle for it?
one more unrelated question regarding meanrom:
I remember seeing a bunch of people talking about something they flashed on top of meanrom which had a bunch of customizations and tweaks, mainly overclocking adjustments. there was a huge thread on it with people all claiming they couldn't imagine using the phone without it now, it was so much smoother, etc, but I can't seem to find it anymore. anyone know what that was, and if it was worth it?
There is no toggle, i tried a few but none worked, go to settings, network there you can set it to cdma or cdma/lte, you really don't need to turn it off it does not effect your battery life

Hey everyone,
I personally have a GSM Touch Pro, but I have a few friends coming to me asking about modding their Sprint T. Pro's, obviously CDMA.
One of my favorite tweaks for the GSM version is turning off 3G when i'm not using the internet with a simple slider in the Comm Manager added by Advanced Config tool... will the same program allow switching from evdo rev a / rev 1? Will there be a battery life increase in using the slower speed when not in use? If I cant use schap's ACT, what program can allow the toggling on/off with relative ease for a not-so-tech-savy person who could at least learn a simple process if I show them how to do it?
Thanks for understanding my newbness in CDMA devices; and thank you for the extra hacks & tips I found through the links you all have here, found a few extras I haven't seen in my time lurking the GSM variants of the Touch Pro.
well i was searching the forum for this EXACT question... good thing it was answered
does anybody know?
Im probably more noob than all of you but to my understanding it wont work. On a gsm phone 3g is actually another form of cdma, so gsm 3g phones have two radios and can surf the web while on a call. So if im right a cdma phone only has one radio so if you turn that one off it will be on airplane mode.

found a mortscript... it works great.
If you download the advanced config tool, there is an option to set the data connection to disconnect after a set amount of time being inactive. That saves a lot of battery for me and it is automatic so it isn't dependent on if you remember to do it or not. You can set it to disconnect anywhere between 30 seconds and 10 minutes.

but does it shut off evdo aswell? i think just having data on is different from having your phone stay on evdo.. since evdo is only for data your phone uses more battery even if your not using data on an evdo signal.. and really 1x is only for text and calls.. for the people who arent on the internet all the time.. toggling evdo would save tons of battery
wow, old topic came back up ! >.>
The idea is allowing the checking of e-mail on a low-speed low-power connection (like blackberries on edge) so auto-disconnections are not very helpful..
the mortscript looks like it would work fairly easily.
I am using Fresh's ROM for LTE it says it allows for enabling MMS over wifi but I have found that it still disconnects from WiFi and connects to 3G to download. Does anyone know how to enable WiFi download? In the big scheme of things its not a big deal, but would like to have it enabled.
I would like to know this too....
I would have posted this under the development section but until I have 10 posts I am unable to do so
You posted it in the right section buddy. As far as the issue, you could try sending a PM to the developer

You could use a third party app like handcent cuz my always dl's over wifi with it

Probably would've been better in the Q&A section.
Under wifi settings, I selected "NEVER (increases data usage)" to Keep Wi-Fi on during Sleep. I also selected Best Wifi Performance. Now it sends MMS while connected to wifi...
Could be a fluke, who knows, but it's working for now.

Be careful with that best wifi setting. It may cause faster battery drain.
Turns out it's still working when Best WiFi is off, so I'm good either way!
same here...
I'm using MeanRom, with the MMS over WIFI patch installed. But it still drops to 3G to send photos. Kinda annoying cuz the 3G sucks at my house right now so its taking forever to send a pic.
Just bought the Razr Maxx and I noticed the 3G/4G icon is still present in the status bar when I connect to wifi. It has disappeared when connecting to wifi with all of my other phones in the past.
Am I really connected to the mobile network at the same time as wifi or is this just a display bug?
When I am connected to wifi the 3G/4G icon turns to white. When wifi is off and I'm connected to the mobile network it turns blue.
Blue just tells you what data source your using, if the Wifi is in blue it means you're using Wifi, if the 3G/4G is blue it means you're using that for your data.
I've been having an issue lately where both the Wifi and 3G/4G are blue though and hvaen't quite figured that one out yet.
One of the battery saving tips I used on my old Bionic which I carried over to my RAZR is to create a smart action to turn off the 3G/4G radio whenever I am connected to my work or home WiFi. I know blue tells you what is your active data connection, but the 3G/4G radios still use battery even when gray.
With that one smart action I could easily get a day of use on my Bionic without any issue. Without the action I needed an afternoon charge.

Thanks. I'm going to have to learn how to use the smart action feature.

Me too, mine has always done this.
It seems like an odd glitch, the Razr has some of the better radios on Verizon but still has some issues apparently.
I just used wingdo's tactic and added a Trigger - Wifi Connection, Action - Cellular Data (Disable) to Smart Actions, works pretty flawlessly and does seem to do a good job conserving battery life.

Thats what I been doing! Just go to my data monitor, shut mobile data off, and voila... no more 3g icon, and... it saves battery. I think its a good thing the icon is still there even when connected to wifi as it reminds me to shut off my mobile data to conserve my precious battery life.

And how do you make it ignore "not usable" wifis?
For example, in airports, where there is no WEP/WPA password - you're ON wifi, but without authentication, you don't have access to external data.
It gives you a list of SSIDs, you select the ones you usually use and it will only shut off your Mobile Data when you're connected to one of them.
It seems like Google has taken some simple basic things in Android that made intuitive sense and made them more complicated or hidden, and this appears to be no exception.
I just bought a Maxx and updated to Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.4), and both the Wifi and 4G icons are blue... I've never seen them any other color, in fact. I had to go into Wifi settings and disable mobile data to get the 4G icon to disappear... I have no idea if it was actually using 4G, but the point of connecting to Wifi is to prevent my limited data plan from being used.
Just so you know, turning off mobile data when connected to wifi will stop you from receiving any MMS messages.
Hello,
I'm about to be an owner of one of these units, however I do not plan on signing up for tmobile service.
I had an HTC EVO View 4G and there were quite a few roms out there that disabled the sprint activation on boot and a script that disabled the radio. I think that script might still work, however does anyone here make any custom roms that automatically disables it?
I haven't really heard much talk about just using WiFi, who here just uses Wifi? How does it work and perform?
I use WiFi almost always when at home. No problems whatsoever.

Do you have a tmobile subscripttion on it as well though?
I don't want to use a subscription, just don't want my battery to die by having it connect to 3G or searching for it.

No I had unlocked it. I use airtel/aircel in India. It should work just the same I think. I keep it on airplane mode always. When I need net, I use WiFi or I get off the airplane mode and enable the mobile data to access internet. Simple as that. There is a setting in the buld.prop as well which allows me to restrict the mobile connection to 2g only thereby enabling me to receive messages if I want to. It saves the battery needed for scanning for 3g or lte network. So I guess shouldn't be a problem irrespective which network you are on.

Ok, I found this and I tried it.
You can 1st enable phone by editing the build.prop settings (need to be rooted for that).
Once that is done, you need to type in *#*#4636#*#*
It automatically opens a Testing Menu of Settings. This gives useful information including battery etc.
Under the Tablet menu, there is an option to disable the radio all-together. I haven't tried this , but I did try changing the network mode from 2g-3g-4g and it worked for that. I would still suggest you use the airplane mode and put on/off wifi as and when needed. I didn't try this because saw some people complaining that after disabling it, they were not able to re-enable the radio. So be-warned about this.
I now have a 4g and wifi icon present on the notification bar when connected to wifi, not just a wifi icon, any one else with this problem?
Not a "problem", just a change they made. Even with mobile data off you will still have the icon letting you know there is data coverage available. Don't know why they changed it, but thats what they do lol

Change, for the sake of change. I can almost hear the software engineers: "Well, there's really nothing wrong with this, but if we change it, people will think it's a "NEW AND IMPROVED" feature!
I have 2 S4. On one the 4g stays grayed when WiFi is running. My other S4 has the 4g on while WiFi is on. In each case, neither shows any 4g activity (arrows moving) with WiFi on. This is rather odd since both are setup the same with regards to WiFi and mobile data.
Update: by turning off Caller Name ID app, I have both of my S4 acting in the same way (4g consistently grayed out when WiFi on). Why the app affects the 4g icon is beyond me.
