You need to download the patched BSR (a link is provided in the CM7 forum post) and install that within CM7 first. Boot into that version to flash CM7. That's how I did it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21342515&postcount=1
thats where i got BSR from, what do you mean "install that within CM7 first"
i rooted the phone using zergrush method and install BSR but when i try to get into recovery mode just sits on the same screen

You stated you already had CM7 alpha, so I was assuming you wanted to flash over the Alpha rather than SBFing back to 2.3.4.
What I did when I found that CM7 beta was released was the following:
Downloaded CM7 zip, CM7 apps zip and patched BSR apk for CM7.
Pushed the three files from step 1 onto my external SD card.
Within CM7 alpha, I navigated to where I pushed the CM7 files and ran the patched BSR apk and installed it.
Ran BSR Recovery and clicked on Install button within BSR.
Within BSR, clicked on the Recovery button and rebooted into recovery.
Factory reset/data wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache
Flashed CM7 zip
Flashed google apps zip
Rebooted
Navigated to patched BSR and reinstalled it.
Updated apps.
when i tried to update it to beta i went into BSR and sent it into a bootloop so i unrooted it and rooted it again i just cant get the rom going cuz of BSR

First, ensure your phone is NOT plugged into the wall at all.
Pull your battery and reinsert it.
Without plugging your phone into the wall, turn it back on and see if it will boot back into the Alpha CM7. Do NOT try and go into recovery (stock nor BSR). If you can get to this point, try this:
Install the non-CM7 BSR.
Install the CM7 patched BSR
Run BSR and install it and reboot into recovery. Hopefully, you can get to the next step.
Factory reset/data wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache
Flash CM7 beta and CM7 google aps
Reboot
If you're still bootlooping, then you may have done something else so your only recourse is to now SBF back to 2.3.4.
Read over the directions in the CM7 beta post and understand what they mean before you go and flash. It is a little different from other ROMs. It took me a couple of times to get it to work because I did something wrong. The first time, I used just the patched CM7 BSR after SBFing back to 2.3.4. Well, from what I understand, it won't work if you aren't already running CM7. Likewise, the original BSR will not run if you already have CM7, so you have to use the patched version.
If all else fails and you must SBF, then this is what you need to do:
SBF back to 2.3.4
Use Zergrush root to root your phone
Get the ORIGINAL (non-CM7 patched) BSR and install it and reboot into it.
Factory reset/data wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache
Flash the CM7 Beta zip file
Flash the CM7 google apps file
Reboot into CM7 beta
Install the CM7-patched BSR apk. Do NOT use the older BSR apk.
I got it to work i had to use the old version of BSR to get it to work thank for your help

Cool. Glad you got it working. It's worth it!
I just did the biggest F-Up of my flashing life. While following QBKing77's Rooting & CWM with unlocked, at approx 3:50, during the flashing of the root SYSTEM.img file, rather than that file, I used the wrong file to flash used an IMG file that was meant for cwm, which is a completely different task.
So now I am trying to get into fast boot and try to do it with correct SYSTEM.IMG, then to find out I never got it downloaded, the link was deadand now I can not find where to DL it from. I must've not been paying attention and got ahead of myself.
Anyone know where I can a mirror of the file found here. Its the first link in the root section labelled "moto-fastboot flashable /system image".
Am I screwed? Does anybody have a copy of that system.img file laying around. I can not find any mirrors. That is the only way I can see this getting fixed bc I can still go into fastboot mode.
ckeck this ????

Important files
Thank shabbypenguin for those
If you can get into rsd mode and connected/recognized in rsd lite you should be able to flash one of those sbf files and return to stock.
I read the instructions carefully! It said to put the oven on 350 degrees for 10mins but for some out of this world reason I put it on broil and let it cook for 20mins :/

LOL no kidding Custodian. I did get a laugh out of that.
Thanks CubanLuke & ShabbyPenguin. I did use RSDLite to flash the current sbf you directed me to, I can boot into the phone again. Thanks again.
Now as to how to proceed, I will have to unlock the bootloader again, np, but when I run into that very step where I broiled it, the rooting via speedboot.... would it be okay to root using AIO instead because I can not find the SYSTEM.IMG needed to follow along w/ the video using this method.
Can I just root a different method, then proceed on with CWM recovery, then flash rom from the video?

Thanks KTT. Okay, I'm back on track now. I am unlocked again, rooted as well. but I am not sure about 2 things. This will be my very first android rom flash and just coming from a big whoopsies, I just want to be sure.....
1) Format system: in cwm recovery, which option is that? I don't see "format system" in the main or advanced menu. Maybe its worded differently?
2) Flash ROM: I can only assume its either "Apply Update from SD" or Update from SD". Not sure which one though.

1) Format system is in the "mount" options. Although it's unneeded to flash a ROM. Personally I just wipe data/factory reset and then wipe cache and have zero issues. Others may tell you different though.
2) "Install .zip from SD Card" then select whichever .zip you're looking to install.

Okay well I am in some trouble again. successfully flashed an alpha cm7.1, but it didn't have market and the one i installed did not work so decided to flash to cm7.2 via CWM. When it booted I didn't really see anything change, later realized that maybe I was suppose to wipe/format in cwm first(idk).
So I decided to flash 198_7, same one that I used to restore back to stock earlier. But I did not get back to stock. The process was 100%, it told me to manually turn on the device, which was in rsd mode. So I unplugged, pulled batt, reboot. The phone now starts up until the pulsing Moto logo then screen goes black, then it loops.
In the process I lost CWM & unlocked. So trying to flash a ROM via cwm is no longer an option. Any thoughts?

Flashing the 198_7 sbf unroots and relocks, so you're back to square one.

Reboot into stock recovery, when you get the recovery logo thing push both volume up and volume down at the same time to get the recovery options. Then do a factory reset and it should boot for you. After that, root and unlock again. And you didn't have the Market because you forgot to install Gapps...

The reason cm7 didn't have the market is that you needed to flash gapps. Try doing a hard reset. http://www.hard-reset.com/motorola-photon-4g-hard-reset.html That should do it.
try the 154 sbf

i had the same problem i think and was going thru boot loops but some one told me to start into recovery when you try you get that ? android screen from there hold down volume up and down at same time then wipe phone booted up fine after that.
It worked like a charm. Thanks. I'm still very new to android and hate to admit it but will be running into problems like these again. The best way to minimize it for me is, not only follow certain directions correctly to get out of these binds, but to understand them.
- So theres an image of the stock ROM stashed away on the phone regardless? And it can be accessed only via the stock recovery? Because after I succeeded in flashing cm7.1, I did a factory reset once from settings>privacy and that restored me to a fresh CM7.1. The factory reset from settings>privacy and in CWM is the same, but both different from the factory reset via STOCK RECOVERY?
- Also what would be the correct method to go from one custom ROM to another? Would it be this? :
(in CWM)
- Format system
- Wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache/dalvik
- Reboot recovery
- Flash ROM
Or can I just jump to install from zip ?
- Also regarding SD Storage (internal), only holds storage files? So on any fresh ROM there shouldn't be anything in that partition relating to that new ROM yet right? So I can delete things without worry?
You should not have to reboot into recovery, once your wipes are complete, normally you can just flash your ROM of choice in the same recovery session.
Before I flashed anything I would make a backup with CWM so you don't have to keep rooting and unlocking. You can just restore your backup.

After flashing 198 7 sbf, all u need to do is flash derpunlock not go through oem unlocking, then reflash recovery.
Simple generic process for going between roms (assuming already unlocked + cwm recovery flashed; process may be different for some roms, always make sure to read directions, but this is the general concept)
1. Download rom (and gapps if necessary) and put on your sdcard
2. Boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup
3. You made a nandroid backup right?
4. Secure your nandroid backup (move it to your pc or something).
5. You know where your nandroid backup is right?
6. Wipe data/factory reset.
7. Install zip from sd (flash), choose the rom.
8. Reboot system.
At this point your rom should be all set. If for some reason you don't like it, simply boot into recovery and restore your nandroid backup. You can even make nandroid backups of various roms if you want to swap between them for whatever reason.
Hello All,
I am able to flash my phone to any other rom so I was looking for some help to get ICM up and running.
If I flash my phone with beta 0.4.3 or 0.4.4 cwm flashable i reboot my phone and it sits in the "unlocked" Motorola Dual Core Technology screen and won't boot. Any ideas or can I get you information off my phone to assist?
Thanks,
Olsookie

Make sure to use Joker's Clockworkmod recovery, named cwm-v3, here.
Thanks gollyzila, I am using the Jokersax CWMv3 recovery image at this time. I meant to mention that earlier in my first post.

I would recommend flashing 0.4.0 first, then Gapps if you want it, then boot up. Then wipe cache and flash to 0.4.4 and re-flash Gapps. This method has been posted for the previous couple versions to avoid problems and seems to resolve a lot of issues. Might give it a shot and at least see if 0.4.0 will boot. Also check to make sure your download is the correct size and not corrupted.
try pulling the battery and then booting again. if that doesn't work flash 0.4.0 first like ccallahan suggested

wala! that worked. thank you very much CCallahan. much appreciated.
i was having the same problem heres what i did i factory reset cleared cache/dalvic installed 3.1 then reboot wipe cache/dalvic then i flashed 4.4 over it
when you first flash any cm9 fresh, not over a backup, you must flash twice. Joker has mentioned this many times that the scripts he has for the install have to run twice in order to fully install.
1. Flash cm9 (whatever beta you want)
2. Reboot recovery (in advanced in cwm)
3. Flash rom again
4. Flash gapps
5. Boot to system
You should be good to go now

I have a sch-i500 that is rooted with cwm working.
I am very interested in running liquid smooth v 2.9 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245120
so I did a format, wiped the cache and davlik. when I installed the zip from external sd card the phone immediately gave me a screen for CWM v 6.0.3.3.
I can still navigate and restore old back ups but the phone does not go past the Samsung logo on the boot screen. Any advice is appreciated.
I was previously running stock 2.3.5 E09 if that helps

seems to be the best way for me to recover from this (looks like I flashed a non voodoo rom without removing voodoo) but I am unable to get the phone into download mode with or without the battery in the phone.
please help......(update) Alright, I am a moron. needed to have a powered usb port. on my way to recovery. thanks for having all this great info in one place.

Oh so close.
When coming from 2.3.x ROM you will need to flash the rom (liquid: or other 4.2.x) you will need to flash 2 more times...
The 1st flash get you into the new recovery only,,, as you found out.
2nd flash will pop up with an error message about incompatible partition and telling you to re-flash again,,,
So 3rd flash actually installs your new ROM
Then install a current/compatible Google gapps
.
Enjoy
.
Thank you, I am getting closer.
still on the second and third flash of the rom I get a satus 7 error which I think is a bootloader issue.
I have flashed the GBbootloader.tar through odid to no avail and am following Section:4 How to flash any ICS 4.0.x & 4.x.x JellyBean based rom

what does the error say besides status 7?
did you odin the CWM4 fixed for cm7 then install the ROM 3 times?
can you get a pic up for us to see?
just to be sure......using odin, I repartitioned with the pit, and flashed a E03 rom. rebooted the phone fine.
flashed the CWM4 fix for 7 and redid the GB bootloaders as well.
went into recovery and factory reset, wiped cache, and dalvik.
installed liquid-JB-v2.7-Official-fascinatemtd.zip this time first time took me directly to clockwork where I flashed again. prompted with install from sdcard complete. repeated and got same message.
factory reset, wipe, wipe and flashed gapps. Everything seems to have worked this time with the v2.7Official instead of 2.9. I will play with this for just a bit and probably try it again tonight with a fresh downloaded copy of v2.9. I really do appreciate your assistance and help and I would not have gotten this far without the forum.
update:
flawless installation of v2.9 since 2.7 was already installed. (installed via cloclwork mod recovery)
It was most likely an operator error that prevented me from installing 2.9 after E03. But I don't see the benefit of going back to recreate why it didn't work. Thanks again all is good and right.
