ok i got the otter box defender case june 2 the day i got the phone.. and about 1 month later the lil rubber flapthat goes over the charge port just fell off from using it so much it wore down and broke rite off.. so i call otter box explain to them my issue and the sent me a new outter layer.. i have had this case for about 2 weeks and i can see that its deff gonna happen again.. which sucks cause i dont want to call again.. is this a problem for anyone else?? sh*t i mite just leave the dam thing off once it falls off again
It's a know problem. There is another threat here that talks about it. Works case scenario you can call again and have them send another one.

I have noticed the flap looking kind of weak on mine too. I'm switching to the Commuter case I ordered as soon as it gets here.
i want to get a thinner case but i need a belt clip.. anyone kno of a good case thats thinner than the defender but has a belt clip?
I had this very issue. I called otterbox and explained the problem and told them I purchased it at best buy but that I did not have the box or receipt. They said no problem and sent me an entire new case. Plus I kinda sorta maybe told them I had the blue version so they sent me that one. Now I have both the blue and the black and I mix and match the pieces. The flap is still broken but it doesn't bother me. Their customer service is awesome.

Can feel the flap on the usb port getting weaker by the day, debating whether I care or if I'm gonna get another case. Really liked Ballistic's cases on the O.G. leaning towards trying their SG case.

I have the commuter case, and the seidio active holster. It's like they were made for each other. Two separate purchases but it's a thinner case.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
I've had the same prob with the flaps and also I noticed the right next to the hole that holds the phone in the holster wears too.... Even the rubber cover as a whole starts to get lose after a while. I just picked up a commuter case today. My phone is a lot slimmer now and I realize again how beautiful the screen is by not having the built in screen protector.
My charger port flap broke off of one case and the black lip that snaps your phone into the case broke off also. I'm now on my 3rd case. The warranty is only a year so I'll just keep getting new cases until the warranty ends and maybe go with the ballistic SG Maxx next.

I started with a defender and hated that the front screen made it hard for me to negotiate the top part of my screen. I did love the toughness but these day I have been using the commuter series on this phone and it has been awesome.

I would recommend popping off the screen protector it comes with and applying your own. EBay gets you 6 of them for like less than $2. Or you can get the Zagg regular or HD. This will avoid the color distortions (rainbow circles) and in the sun light glare.
I've been doing this to all my Otterbox's and that's how I've survived. But I am thinking of switching over to the Trident Case's - Kraken AMS or Cyclops.

I am now seeing this problem too. The whole case seems to be getting looser. So much so that it barely even stays attached to the top of the frame at the top of the phone now.

The silicone (rubber) housing has been an issue for all otterboxes not just the lte for my og i went thru 4 of them in 6 months the 3d like 6 of them and im getting my third in the mail for the lte and i got it the day they were shipped to stores for preorder release. Otterboxes offer amazing protection and customer service thats why ill stick with them. That and the fact they dont keep track of the 1 year thing lol

This really sucks. I am about to get my defender case soon for my evo 4g lte. I've got one for the Sgs3 and so far it's been good.
Happened to me.also. I am.on.my second warranty replacement. I am actually pretty irritated and will be trying to return the case.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I dont see it as a reason to return or not buy otterboxes now if theyd stop replacing them or started charging a fee for replacements like zagg does then id start looking else where but in all aspects of the case im quite pleased with it...on a side note they probably didnt design the case with power users/rooters and devs in mind. Im sure with normal daily usage the case would hold up and withstand anything you threw at it. And on another side note i threw my 3d at the wall a few months back with the defender on it and absolutely nothing happened to the case but i did shatter the digitizer and lcd along with completely bending the metal housing of it. So the case itself will hold up just hope the impact of the hit isnt hard enough to break what its protecting lol.

I have the defender and love it!! VZW threw it in when I picked up my Rezound. Way nicer than my wifes on her iphone. Rubber stays put, covers for the ports and nice rounded edges.

No the extended battery won't fit if it is anything like the Otterbox on my Desire
I ordered one last night directory from Otterbox. I had one on my DI and loved it. I'll post pics when it comes in. It looks pretty nice in the pictures. The cases Verizon had sucked. I got a gel case for temporary. Guy said I had 14 days to return it as long as it wasn’t all beat up. Only Otterbox case Verizon had was the defender. And that's just too much case IMHO.

Just got off the phone with V got an early upgrade to the Rezound and the fellow asked if I needed to order a case. They only had the Ottterbox Defender. I had already ordered a Commutter direct from Otterbox. The two shall meet on Monday and become one.
Not sure if it will be delivered by wednesday or the friday after thanksgiving. I am not sure if I should ship it to school or my house where I will be next week.
Also just ordered mine. Mad they dont have faster shipping options. Defender is way to large for me lol. (That's wut she said) but I ordered the commuter yesterday so i should have it early next week. Its looks good IMO. Hopefully it feels just as good..
I also hope maybe it will have a cover for the camera. As the battery plate doesn't... Scared my lenses is gonna scratch and give me nexus quality pictures :-(

I picked up the defender yesterday, and actually really like it. I generally get the commuter as well, but it has a great feel to it. It makes the buttons MUCH easier to use, which is a huge plus in my opinion. It also offers a very good screen protector that doesn't take away from the screen clarity like the protectors VZW sells.
We will have to see how long I can do with the rubber picking up lint (which it does, quite a bit actually)...but I have to say I like it better than all the other cases I've tried at my local Verizon store.
I have the otterbox commuter series for my rezound. Love it. They've turned me into a serious fanboi. Fit is absolutely flawless. The hard plastic shell is great too. I'm not using the screen protector.

Otterbox has been my #1 for a long time. All their cases are great. And their warranty is too. Does the commuter have any kind of cover for the camera lense? Or is it thick enough to not be an issue?

Nothing physically over the lens. However it does offset the lens roughly a 1/16th of an inch. Enough so you can slide it across a table without worry. It's the same with the screen. I don't use the included screen protector so that offset is key.

Has anyone tried the Commuter? I think the defender would just be more than I need. My only major problem with this phone is the WORTHLESS flush mounter buttons. I always almost drop my phone trying to use them. I know at least one person has said that the Defender makes the buttons much easier to use, can anyone attest to this being the same on the Commuter? From the picture they look nice and raised like on the Defender, but I want to be sure, as right now whatever case I get will be based largely on making the buttons easier to press.
Also, how does that membrane on the Defender work? Is it just a sheet of plastic connected to the case rather than stuck to the screen? Wouldn't dust and/or moisture get trapped under there?
Order one in red and it came today....i must say i am very impressed with this...i had an otterbox on my evo4g and didn't like it...the kick stand wasn't as sturdy and after a while the rubber got loose(thats what she said lol)and the power button had to be fiddled with on the case to make it hit the actual button on the phone...this case by trident seems better with the reversed design(soft sleeve under the hard outer shell). and it looks great on the phone!!!!!

The size is similar, but I believe the Cyclops is slightly larger.
Trident advantages are mainly the ability to be able to touch the screen edge and no more lint on your case. But the lack of soft rubber on the outside does make it quite a bit less grippy.
Overall I think the Cyclops leaves the Defender defenseless.
This case is the best case I have seen out for our phones to date. I absolutely love it. Kickstand is rock solid and the case just feels nice in your hand. Most important it can slide in and out of your pocket easily!
Pros-
Camera button works well
Kickstank is the best I have seen
Screen and camera protectors ( I don't use them but they look well done for someone who uses them )
Hard outside case slides in pocket well
Cons-
Sometime hard to open charge port cover
I will post pictures of it next to my defender and commuter otter box cases for comparison ... The kraken is maybe a slight bit thicker than the defender but unnoticeable really

Does the Kraken II have a dust filter over the speaker ports (both the earpiece and the speakerphone)? I'm currently using the Otterbox Defender, and I'm getting tired of having to open it up to clean dust from between the screen and the case.
Also, can the holster be used to hold the phone with the screen facing out? I've set my Otterbox holster in the car to hold the phone that way for convenience.

The best part of using otterbox is there warranty is the best yet. They will replace your case and holster and let you keep your old one. Trident warranty is slow and a pain.

How is the holster part from the pic I seen of it looks tiny? Does it hold the phone in place pretty well? Im hoping since the holster is so tiny I don't catch it on something and have the phone pop out.
My phone popped out once....but I'm a rough guy...mechanic by trade so me scooting on the floor under a car and having my phone come out of the clip isn't so uncommon no matter what case it is. I love my Evo LTE, it is an awesome phone! When I bought it though I received the horrible news that TEP from Sprint had gone up as well as the Asurion Deductible. Normally I don't like cases because I like to keep my phone sleek but with this in mind I had to buy one. I opted for the OtterBox Commuter (I bought on Amazon for a little over $20 shipped). So I thought I'd hit you guys up with a review just in case anybody is on the fence about what case to get.
Overall:
I liked the tight fit, the good amount of protection without the bulk, and the fact that the kickstand is perfectly accesible and usable in both directions Plus it's relatively cheap. Check attached images. I had no problems with any of the cutouts for microphone or the back camera. Also the charging port and headphone jack coverings worked fairly well. They were a bit bothersome, mainly the headphone jack, depending on the size of the plug but overall they're pretty good.
Fit:
I must say this case has a TIGHT fit on my phone! It is not loose anywhere and the silicone is actually pretty tight on there unlike other two layer cases I've tried. It is tight enough that no dust has gotten underneath it to the case which I hate when cases do that! Also all the buttons are unaffected by the case and I like the feel they have with it on. Oh and the kickstand can still be used both ways, port up or down!
Size:
The case hasn't added much bulk at all. I still think this phone is pretty thin with the case on. I took a picture next to an Evo 3d with no case on just for size comparison and as you can see, this case adds little to no bulk.
Protection:
I feel my phone is pretty well protected. I already got past the 1st scary fall yesterday when I dropped it running down some stairs :/ but my phone was not harmed at all, neither was my case. Obviously it's not meant to be a hardcore heavy duty run over with a car case (as rumored with some Ballistics) but it's a good balance between protection and keep it thin.
Screen Protector:
I personally don't like screen protectors too much. It seems unnecessary for this phone with Gorilla Glass but it's still a nice gesture for it to be included. I installed it for demonstration purposes since many people with screen protectors had problems with proximity sensor. The protector included in the case had the cutout for the proximity sensor which was definitely a plus. I also noticed it's a pretty hard screen protector and feels almost like bare glass, but I still don't plan on keeping it for long lol
The Bad:
The only bad thing I've found so far is that the silicone is a little bit of a dust magnet. It hasn't gotten too serious to where it bothers me but it's just something to note.

I dont normally like to put cases on phones either but this phone...i dont know I had the overwhelming urge to put a case on it. Now i was going to go wit ha normal regular hard shell case off of ebay for 5 bucks but..no.. not this time. I got the otterbox commuter aswell. Truth be told I was worried about the silicone not fitting perfectly but to my surprise it fits damn well. Plus the case feels good in the hand. I actually like how the phone feels with the case on. i did put the screen protector on because look at it this way. $600 phone with ''gorilla glass''..... youre really not going to do anything to protect it? Gorilla glass is scratch resistant not scratch proof. My opinion is youve gotta have a few screws loose if youre not going to put a screen protector on the phone.
over all great case, feels good, doesnt add bulk.
The defender however...makes the phone huge
I rocked my OG for two years with every rugged case u could think of and never worried about the phone. The last month I had the phone I had it naked as all of my cases were breaking on me. I loved how great the Evo felt naked and how easy it was to slip it into my pocket. Anywho, I ended up dropping it and shattering the screen. I bought the new Evo and slapped the Commuter on it before leaving BB. I thought the Defender was way too big for pocket use (I'm over the belt clip thing). It maintains the sleekness of the OG Evo, so, I love it! The included screen protector is pretty good too surprisingly. Not a single complaint from me!
Yeah I have actually kept this case on and been loving it. The case adds a really nice feel to my phone and I honestly like the look it gives my phone. I have yet to try the defender but when I do ill do a write up on it as well

I love the review. I'm actually about to switch from the defender to the commuter case. Getting tired of the extra bulk and the rubber on the defenders seem to tear rather quickly. I had the same tearing prob when I had a defender on my e3d. Had the e3d defender replaced twice. So again thanks for the review picking up a commuter case tomorrow.
Bought the same case as soon as I got my phone, beat case hands down still nice and thin the dust magnet I agree but its protective and not heavy ! It was cheap too off amazon. The port cover is clever

Finally got my HTC EVO 4G LTE. I need a case. I got the Otterbox Defender and its going back. I am concerned with the port covers.
I really like the Ballistic and the Kraken. I can't decide. I had a Trident case for my previous phone. I like both cases. I am leaning towards the Kraken because of the dust covers.
I have 4 little kids and my EVO is our only phone. My husband calls the EVO my fifth child since its always with me. I take meticulous care of it.
My kids on the other hand, are constantly bringing me the phone, and we have a two story house. So I need a case that can withstand little hands and lots of drops.
I need to make a decision very soon, as my baby needs protection!
Thanks in advance.

Haven't had a Kraken before but I don't think you could go wrong with either choice. The Ballistic that I had on my OG Evo was the most protection I have ever had on a phone. I could throw that thing up in the air twenty feet and not worry about it. I don't think anybody has had a maximum coverage case like the Hardcore that Ballistic issued for the og Evo. Trident seems to be a more artful case if you are concerned with looks. But the Ballistic is the one that I would opt for.

Unfortunately they do not make a HC ballistic case for the EVO. So I got the next best thing, the ballistic sg maxx case. Not too bulky, has dust covers for the ports, reinforced silicone corners, removable screen protector (although the screen protector reduces touch sensitivity) and a belt clip. Great protection in a fairly slim package. Ebay has them for about $30

I can see why you don't like the Otterbox Defender because of its thickness.
I'd go Ballistic. Seriously and figuratively.
Thanks so much. I am gonna go Ballistic. Now the tough part, what color?

Have you considered the Cyclops instead of the Kraken? They seem to be starting to become available.

I have the Cyclops case... However I wouldnt recommend it due to the op's situation. It's basically a 2 piece hard shell. I thought it was a 3 piece case but I was wrong. Also the black on every Cyclops case is glossy and the case is EASILY scratchable.

Looks like a 3-piece case to me, unless I'm missing something.

I have Cyclops. It's two piece. Search for my in depth review of it in the accessories section.
I would go ballistic though.

I had a ballistic maxx on my s3. Worst effin case ive ever seen. Took it back in 1 day. That screen protector is the dumbest thing ever. Pops out rainbow haze and is not very clear.

I have the SG for my Evo. From what I noticed the Maxx simply adds a plastic on the screen. I decided to simply get a clear screen protector rather than the plastic cover.
The reason I went with ballistic was because I had the HC case for my OG, it offered amazing protection. Unfortunately they decided to no longer make cases like that which is a shame.
I feel like I mist warn you, unless you can find a case like the old HC ones, your phone will still be vulnerable. I didn't use my phone until the case and screen protector arrived. The first day dropped it from about 4/5 feet onto the carpet by accident. I noticed it was slightly bent (it was no longer straight, rather it had a slight curve) not noticeable unless you try hard to find it.
Anyway the point is that since the phone is so thin and made of aluminium, a lot of people are reporting that the phone bends. There is a thread here somewhere on XDA with pictures.
Needless to say I'm extremely careful and don't even drive with the phone in my pocket after hearing another member mention that it bent after making a maneuver while driving. Maybe he had skinny jeans but I'd rather not take chances.
Also, my case doesn't have covers for the USB or headphone port. I don't know if they've recently added it or not.
Are you using a case and if so, which one?
Currently I do not use a case, but have a thin one on order to see what I think of it. Feels wrong to make this phone thicker, but wanted to get some other opinions.
I use a black OtterBox. I've never worried less about dropping my phone, and it feels great in my hand. Adds a little bulk, but not bad.

No case for me. Not sure what I would go with if I got one.

Yup, using Diztronic matte black from amazon. still super slim and the phone doesnt feel to skinny and awkward to hold anymore.
Nope. No way. I love how thin this phone is and don't want to do anything to change that. FWIW, I haven't bought a case for a phone in over 4 years, now. Thin (and naked) is in!

I ran my iphone 4 without a case for a full 2 years. I like to live life on the edge LOL....oh I'm so glad im done with that phone.
At work (Verizon Indirect) I usually go sans case, but at home and when I'm out and about, I alternate between the cruzerlite androidified, the verizon tpu, and the otterbox commuter in white or black (but I only use the commuter when I'm going to be using my phone outside)
I always order case before I make phone purchase. Usually some TPU case if any good is not available. Then go for Mercury case if it launches as I love their cases.
But yeah, I always use case. I dont use phones for long period. In last one year I have gone through Note, One X, SGS3, Nexus 4, Note 2, Xiaomi Phone 2, and now DNA (Actually still have Xiaomi, Note 2 along with DNA ). So it is important for me to make sure my phones are in flawless condition when I sell them to friends or ebay them so I get maximum out of it
Usually end up getting 80-90% of the money I invest in phone back because they are in top condition.
Currently have a generic TPU jelly case and Nilkin is on its way.
I'm using the Ballistic SG & it is awesome love the way it fits my DNA! I just ordered the Ballistic SG Maxx to replace it since it adds a clip & the protection for the display.

I'm using the body glove that I got on amazon for 11$. Feels and looks amazing and I even have a hole in the back for the notification light that I made myself using a heated screw driver.... Looks real clean though haha.

No Case. Like how thin the phone is.
OtterBox Commuter
Sure it adds some girth to the phone, but it protects it so very well. I dropped my phone a week after having it, with no case. Took a chip out of the glass up by the ear speaker area. I quickly looked for an OtterBox, due to having one on my Evo4G. The power button is a little hard to push, but if you load up DSBs Cubed Kernel you can use Sweep to Wake and not have to worry about that button.
Cheers!
I didn't run a case until I dropped it in the kitchen and chipped a small piece of glass.
OtterBox commuter case is on it now.
Please don't touch my "Thanks" button, it doesn't like you...
I have a case mate case with a screen protector but lately been taking case off just because the DNA feels so good in my hands without one

I want to use a case so bad because I've only had the phone two weeks and already had to order an insurance replacement because I broke one but I just can't do it...
I even bought a nice one but every time I put it on I end up taking it off after 30 minutes because I miss the feel of the phone without it lol

Ballistic HTC Droid DNA SG MAXX
Went without case for awhile, love the feel and how thin the phone is, but was unhappy with the wear I appeared to be getting on soft back. Went with the shell/holster combo from verizon and use just the case. I like it, adds very little bulk compared to body glove or otterbox types and even has kickstand.
