6 months is the standard waiting period to unlock the device....
I've called my carrier for the unlock, and was told no...I have a month left before they will even talk about it...
nice idea though......g
my phone isn't even under contract.
Lucky you ....LOL
it also helps if you tell them you are going overseas and need it unlocked asap

Now that trick may work......:good:
I tried it for mine and it worked. But a buddy of mine that just got his Note last month was denied of the lock code because he was only in his 1st month of the 2 year contract ext. I had my Note the first day of release from AT&T in Feb. They look at your current contract and determine whether to give it out or not I believe.

AT&T will now give them because it's no longer exclusive. When they were the only carrier with it they would not give it out for anything.
Tomorrow is the day ...even if it kills me ...LOL

quick question
Do I need to switch out the sim card right away, if so witch carrier is perferd?
Also can this be done on flappjaxxx stock rom?

I tried it on a friends Tmobile sim and it worked. But I'm on stock ICS. Not sure if it works with other roms.

You shut off the phone, switch sim cards, boot, enter code in network control screen, then phone registers on other network. shut it down and put your sim back, or keep going if you wanted to switch.
Flapjaxxx ULF6 rom will unlock, but not all roms will. For those that don't you flash a stock rom and unlock, then return to your preferred rom.
Always try it first!
I just tried the live chat and asked for the code because of travel out of the US -- I got the ****. I guess plan b is the customer service call. Elevator music hell, here I come.
Onced unlocked with T Mobile, correct me if I'm wrong. I will only get to make phone calls, no unlimited data and will be still with at&t. Researched forums and still a littlte unsure how this helps to save money.
unlocked means you can use any network, and whatever capabilities that network has: data, sms, mms, voip, voice.
i just did this the other day and it worked!! called told them that someone on craigslist sold me the phone and stated it was unlocked but it wasnt and that i was with tmobile and needed it unlocked, he asked for the imei number and after about 30 seconds gave me the code and asked me if i needed anything else, lol
no thanks for me? ;_;
Get the word out there people, let everyone know about this!
Don't be fooled by the scams that want $30 (or however much they are asking for) to do this SIMPLE PROCESS!!!!
just call up att/tmobile with your imei and tell them you are going overseas and need your phone unlocked.
(maybe need to be on stock rom? not really sure)

First, thank you. Second, unlocking services are not scams, and they can charge whatever people are willing to pay, and when the carrier has exclusive rights to a phone, they don't have to sell you a product that will profit their competition ( ecom 101).
And to see if you will need to revert to stock either put in a non at&t sim and boot up. You should see:

I have been trying to get the unlock code from AT$T ever since I got this phone. finally, the code is now available to customers for free and I got my yesterday. just in time for my trip overseas later this month. now my little aria is perfect.
so call at$t and get your aria unlocked
Do you need a foreign sim for it to unlock, or can you simply boot with no sim inserted?
you will need a sim card. all you have to do is:
1. power down
2. remove your AT$T sim
3. insert any sim, active or inactive (in my case I used my china mobile sim)
4. boot back up
5. it will ask you for the unlock code
6. type in code
7. done. your aria is free and unlocked
I tested it by using my friends t-mobiles sim and it worked fine

I can use a friend's AT&T sim card but does it registers on his account or something? clarifications will be greatly appreciated.
boxcar8028,
wondering who you called/number. I too called yesterday (before reading this) even talked toa supervisor in the US (not India call center which is worthless) and they told me ATT doesn't provide unlocking code for the Aria ever (!), and would be 9 months from purchase for my other HTC phone (Inspire 4G) - both are in contract.

not sure why AT$T didn't give you the code, but keep trying. it took me 4 try's in the past 7 months and each time they would tell me the same thing "code is not available for this phone" until last week. but maybe its because I have been with ATT for over 10 years, and yes my aria has a 2 year contract (17 months to go) and if they ask you why you want it unlocked, just tell them for use traveling overseas. keep trying, good luck.

I have been trying for over 7 months. each time I ask AT$T would always say check back in 2 months. not sure if the more you ask the more likely you'll get the code or not.
I thought AT$T would just make the code open to all now since the aria is an older model

We can make this happen if everyone will ask for this in AT&T forums. If HTC listened with the rom locking, I'm sure we can make AT&T listen as well.

as we can see even though the phone is sold exclusively by AT&T you still got the code. So the guidelines don't represent the situation here.
Unlock Codes
I'm going to try to get my unlock code. If they tell me they can't do it, I'm going to remind them that unlocking my phone is my right and the DCMA was modified by the custodian of the Library of Congress. If they refuse, I'm going to demand that they purchase my phone. Either way, if I don't get the code, I'm going to start filing complaints with the FCC. I don't believe they have a choice in the unlocking debate.
Cell phone providers, software providers, etc, enjoy benefits and protections that no one would tolerate for any other device. If you purchased a car that would only run on gas from one station, you would burn the dealership to the ground. But cell phone companies do it, because many people don't exercise their rights.
yeah, I have to agreed with you. I wish USA cell services was more like overseas, were people are more lock into their phone numbers then their providers. make sure to point out that you are within the unlock rules of AT$T and hopefully they will give you the code. - good luck

I'm sure everybody here support our right for unlocked devices. But this is even not the issue here. Even if we assume that AT&T has the right to lock the device, it seems that the company does give out the unlock codes to many users. That's what really frustrates me since I don't understand the reason to prefer one customer over another.
Please update us on any progress.
You just have to have been used the phone for 3-4 months for them to give you the unlock code. I have done this with previous phones, as well as with my Aria and my Mom's Aria. Both of them I bought on craigslist, so not on contract.

You can do it at home but you will need to pay to unlock it. As for the company you have some options like omnius or wotanserver and all of them are around 15 euros.
The procedure it's called test point method and you can find some info about it here .

Your link is about unlocking bootloader, topic starter asked about network unlocking.
To OP: If you plan to install custom ROMs, use Omnius/WotanServer or like that method, as you will require enabled fastboot also.
If you just want to unlock from the network, then you can do it by your operator via the code.
Doesn't matter, how you do it, either way you have to pay.

well you use the test point method to unlock the phone the only difference is that they patch the sim info so it unlock it along with the fastboot mode.
please think before posting this kind of comments as it can confuse users and i never said my link as you call it was for unlocking the sim i just said it has to do with the test point method.

Yep you use the test point method to unlock the phone but you need to do it with a company like woman server or omnius and unfortunately it is not free.
You could try Da Vinci unlocking, they're quite cheap and it worked fine for me.
Sadly you don't live in Brazil like me. All phones here have to be selled unlocked. If not, providers have to give unlock code for free. After all, you own the phone, not your provider. So you should be free to choose whenever sim card you want inside it.

I don't know does this happen in every case, but generally I believe that this is how it works -
manufacturer price to networks of phone:
€400
Network sells phone to customer
€250
(network PAYS subsidy of €150 and wants customer to stay on the network long enough to pay back the subsidy in credit)
I think this is a little different to iPhone jailbreaking - in this case as a customer I think we are kind of robbing the networks - they paid money to make our phone cheaper, we're detaching ourselves before that money is repaid so the network DEFINITELY makes a LOSS. I believe it's illegal in some countries because of this. So this kind of network-unlocking is not the same as iPhone jailbreaking, I don't think.
p.s. I don't know how they do it in Brazil. I suspect that the customer might have to pay more when they buy the phone, maybe the network pays less. I seen on TV (don't know how true) that that's the philosophy with house-buying there - don't buy giant bank debt.
More or less like that, bro. We do get subsidized phones too due to competition between providers (we have 4 here with almost the same markeet share). So they offer subsidized (or even free) phones to get costumers with a good monthly billing. You get fidelity due to service plan, not locked with phones.
Sounds more fair, IMO. You bought your phone, it is yours. Even if the network provider subsidized it .

I recently bought a ZTE Max XL from a customer that had it on Boost Mobile.
I was unaware that Boost requires the phone to stay within their carrier network "Active" for
at least 12 months. They tell me the phone IS eligable for DSU (unlocking) however they
won't do it because of the 12 month requirement. They tell me to drop my service and come on

Even if you have had the Boost ZTE Max XL for a year of service with Boost and you manage to get them to give you the unlock code, there is no way to put it in the phone. Typically, if you insert a different carrier sim in the phone, it will prompt for an unlock code. Try it on the Max XL. It just says "invalid sim", no way to enter anything. So, as incredible
as it sounds, what Boost and Sprint are doing is giving you a code, but there is no way to actually enter it.
You could buy an unlock code from one of the online sources. Some of them will
tell you that they can't unlock this Boost phone. Others have instructions that tell you once you have the unlock code, how to enter it. It starts with inserting a different sim. That doesn't work. Next it's try a variety of half a dozen strings on the keyboard to get it to prompt for the unlock code input. They don't work. Try them before buying any code. My conclusion is that these codes will not work, because there is no way to put them into the phone.
Then there is the ultimate gotcha. If you look at the specs for this phone, it supports both CDMA and GSM. It should work on AT&T or Tmobile, for example. But if you do some googling you will see people saying that Boost/Sprint has the GSM disabled, ie the firmware isn't there to enable it, etc. So, even if you successfully unlocked the phone, where are you going to go? Nowhere. You're on Boost, Sprint won't take the phone, they have a very selective and short list of phones they will accept. I doubt Virgin will take it. So, you're pretty much stuck, with nowhere to go. :crying:
If you want to go to another carrier, best solution is to sell the phone on Ebay and get one that works on the other carrier. And so much for the new unlock policy of the industry. The govt was after them a couple years ago for their abuse of customers with locked phones. So, the industry sold the govt on the idea of letting them get together and come up with an industry wide agreed solution. And this is how Boost/Sprint is implementing it. In essence, nothing has changed with them. Others like Verizon, I understand don't lock their phones. MetroPCS only requires 90 days of service, then there is an unlock app on the phone where you request it and it automatically unlocks.
In other words, some companies are honest and ethical, some, not so much.:crying

Oneplus will definitely provide the unlock token if their higher level managers are aware of this issue.
They have the unlock token and just need to update the unlock website to include all Metropcs IMEIs.
It is really as simple as flipping a switch if the right person knows it.
According to data, most of the N10's sold in the US are actually the metropcs version. It is the most sold phone for metropcs. Not many people are buying it from t-mobile or oneplus directly.
Rightnow, all the chat/email representatives are not high level enough to flip that switch. That is why they told you oneplus cannot unlock metropcs n10's bootloader.
What we need to do is keeping asking the representatives to escalate this issue to higher managers.
i just did that on the online oneplus support and im now going to get on the phone and call to speak to a live person because i dont have muck faith in the person on the other end of that chat to actually escalate after asking that be done multiple times
I get the run around from OnePlus almost everyday they claim to escalate ticket

The chat/email agents are really low level.
They first replied me with t-mobile unlock policy, which has nothing to do with metropcs n10 bootloader unlock issue.
I bet they didn't even read my entire message except for the word "unlock".
tmo version has to be paid off sim unlocked the oem unlock wont be greyed out. then go here : https://support.oneplus.com/app/ans...-to-unlock-bootloader-for-oneplus-smart-phone and follow instructions and wait. as far as the metro version youll have to wait 4 months or find someone on ebay to unlock it for a fee then go to the above site and try it out. i hope this helps

Yeah that's the same site that every Metropcs owner has been going to they don't know how to unlock metro versions even if you have waited the 180 days
Metropcs/by TMobile has been hell with bootloaders.
If you can still find my guides on Android forums, the LG Motion 4g development shows how far metro will go to keep your device "stock".
Someone eventually adapted a Loki kernel to function and 2 years of crying became history
I guess I'm not the only one getting the run around. This device has great hardware and has been solid, but I don't like the idea of a company telling me how to use something I spent my hard earned fiats on! I am also waiting for a manager from oneplus to get back to me. Will keep ya'll posted!
OEM unlock is no longer greyed out on my phone.
I got the notification that my phone was capable of being unlocked via the metro unlocker app. After rebooting, OEM unlock was clickable af.
Didn't need the unlock token and I've already tested by firing up the muhfuggin dsu launcher
Good news:
Oneplus finally escalated my request to higer level manager and my metropcs n10 is now eligible for bootloader unlock token.
I just submitted mine and will wait 7 days to get the unlock token.
Super excited received my P6 from tmobile today, loving it so far, except for the fact that i cant unlock the device!, i received it and dev option was already enabled and the device has a greyed out Oem unlock with (cannot be used on carrier locked device)
I believe you can unlock the bootloader once the device has been paid off in full. That was the case with my 4 xl anyway
So you need to contact tmobile and get an unlock code, or look for an unlock app here, but I'll try to help by asking, whats a p6?
A year away from leaving primary school lol...
Nah, seriously, who made the p6?

You have to the sim unlocked. TMobile's policy is 40 days after purchase and paid off, they will unlock the sim, which provides the authorization (ungrey) to unlock the bootloader.
You can try and chat with T-Mobile via social media and they may or may not unlock the sim for you. It's good to have a reason you need it unlocked.
I answer a question in the HELP OTHERS ANSWER UN_ANSWERED QUESTIONS... thanks...
Ah, GOOGLE made it. That was not in the title, hence my question.
Wooosaaaaah...
This is neither a google OR pixel thread.
Twas an unanswered question.

I had mine unlocked Monday through FB chat. Also, not paid off. Someone earlier today mentioned they couldn't get there's done through chat. Glad to see yours is unlocked. Enjoy.

Lmfao, alright alright, thats fair, i thought you were lurking in the thread tryna be funny, i used to love to troll, hence my response. i thought it would have showed it was a Pixel 6 thread
Lol, I noticed only after you replied that while you were in your own thread, I was just answering questions in the un-answered questions section, my apologies
Ask @mobbdeep
Your best bet is chat, if the chat doesn't do it. Call in during mid day to get ahold of a local expert. You can ask for a whitelist of your IMEI. 'Your job requires it to have the bootloader unlock'.
Had mine done today because the software was broken - forced flash all partitions through the pixel utility.
But give T-Maybe a call.
It took me (7) times, yes 6 returns and re-upgrades before i got the right rep to whitelist the IMEI, before i even took the device out of the box, the customer service rep had the IMEI whitelisted and Carrier Unlocked Successfully.
I am awaiting my P6P now, and if the 1st boot with no SIM doesn't work, to the phone i'll go...
I talked to a FB chat rep and he didn't do it for me. Attempt 1 is a failure. I'll try again tomorrow and then maybe everyday once. All I need is just one considerate rep.

Throughout the years I've noticed @T-MobileHelp on Twitter has more tools/authority in General, over Customer Care or in a Store. That being said, they are more "by the book" and stick to the rules more. The only difference was I told them it was a replacement device, and my last Pixel (4XL) was Unlocked. No questions asked, the Rep flipped the switch without question. Device was NOT paid off, it was actually billed to my account, downpayment and all...

Actually, right after my reply last night at 1:30 am CST, I talked to a customer service rep and asked her to out my device to whitelist. And she did it! She said that it'll take up to 24 hours for the request to get processed. She also confirmed that then my device will be network unlocked and I'll be able to OEM unlock.
20 hours have passed since then and I'm waiting patiently...

I'm picking up a Pixel 6 tomorrow from T-Mobile - what kind of work would require this? Just want to be prepared when I call them in case they push the issue.
P.S. Sorry to necropost

This contradicts most of what we know. For T-Mobile to have your IMEI in their system, you’d have to have the SIM card in the phone and have used it, otherwise they wouldn’t have record of your IMEI? Even @mobbdeep who was the user here that unlocks TMO for us for free, one his requirements was exactly this, the device to be unlocked needs to have the SIM currently installed for a minimum of 3 days. He even went as far as saying if we happened to remove it at any time, the 3 day minimum resets. But other Pixel 6 users said they were able to unlock the same or next day after buying it so maybe 3 days is no longer required, however the phone sim still needed to be inserted for your IMEI to show in the system. How did you unlock a device that you hadn’t possessed yet and why the need to return the device 6-7 times? If TMO refused to unlock you, there’s no need to return or reupgrade your device? There’s nothing wrong with it, the issue is with the TMO rep, them refusing to help means they likely did nothing to your device at all so no need to exchange it?
I asked Twitter T-Mobile help to get my phone unlocked. They did it for me. After I got the notification I tried to use the unlock app from T-Mobile for Google pixels only. It didn't work. I suspect you don't need it though.
