Boost Mobile ZTE Unlock - Need to know what company CAN do this - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought a ZTE Max XL from a customer that had it on Boost Mobile.
I was unaware that Boost requires the phone to stay within their carrier network "Active" for
at least 12 months. They tell me the phone IS eligable for DSU (unlocking) however they
won't do it because of the 12 month requirement. They tell me to drop my service and come on
over to Boost... NOT my ideal solution.
Does ANYONE know a service or company (or individual) that can unlock my ZTE Max XL N9560?
Currently attempting to use:
https://www.unlockitnow.com
and
www.code-unlock-store.com
Any help welcome =)

were you able to unlock it?

Boost ZTE Max XL unlock

Even if you have had the Boost ZTE Max XL for a year of service with Boost and you manage to get them to give you the unlock code, there is no way to put it in the phone. Typically, if you insert a different carrier sim in the phone, it will prompt for an unlock code. Try it on the Max XL. It just says "invalid sim", no way to enter anything. So, as incredible
as it sounds, what Boost and Sprint are doing is giving you a code, but there is no way to actually enter it.
You could buy an unlock code from one of the online sources. Some of them will
tell you that they can't unlock this Boost phone. Others have instructions that tell you once you have the unlock code, how to enter it. It starts with inserting a different sim. That doesn't work. Next it's try a variety of half a dozen strings on the keyboard to get it to prompt for the unlock code input. They don't work. Try them before buying any code. My conclusion is that these codes will not work, because there is no way to put them into the phone.
Then there is the ultimate gotcha. If you look at the specs for this phone, it supports both CDMA and GSM. It should work on AT&T or Tmobile, for example. But if you do some googling you will see people saying that Boost/Sprint has the GSM disabled, ie the firmware isn't there to enable it, etc. So, even if you successfully unlocked the phone, where are you going to go? Nowhere. You're on Boost, Sprint won't take the phone, they have a very selective and short list of phones they will accept. I doubt Virgin will take it. So, you're pretty much stuck, with nowhere to go. :crying:
If you want to go to another carrier, best solution is to sell the phone on Ebay and get one that works on the other carrier. And so much for the new unlock policy of the industry. The govt was after them a couple years ago for their abuse of customers with locked phones. So, the industry sold the govt on the idea of letting them get together and come up with an industry wide agreed solution. And this is how Boost/Sprint is implementing it. In essence, nothing has changed with them. Others like Verizon, I understand don't lock their phones. MetroPCS only requires 90 days of service, then there is an unlock app on the phone where you request it and it automatically unlocks.
In other words, some companies are honest and ethical, some, not so much.:crying

For rooting or unlocking? I don't have the handset i just thought i had read somewhere that there was no root available due to BL locked, no fastboot etc. Here is a thread discussing root and if you search around here and on AF im sure you might come across more. https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/zte-max-xl-root-custom-recovery-t3601219
If you need anything unlocked just read through this thread. I recommended a guy and others have as well.

Testing possible unlock.

Hasoon, maybe you can confirm...I knew that Gsm network providers (att, tmo) used to provide the unlock codes to customers. So long as the customer answered every question they had and didn't suspect the customer to have ill-intentions.
Do they still provide it? Last time I tried thru a carrier, it turned into a two week q&a session and never getting the device unlocked...thru them.
If you wouldn't mind, please share how this works from your stand-point (reseller) from mfr >carrier>customers {ie, where does the device"supplier" you referenced come in?}
Thanks.

If you have T-Mobile and want to unlock an AT&T phone, they won't do it. You have to have the carrier's service and they will unlock the phone that they provide for their network.
With me, it works as MFR -> supplier -> Me -> my customers. My supplier buys the database of codes, I buy the codes from my supplier, my customers buy the codes from me.

You can do it at home but you will need to pay to unlock it. As for the company you have some options like omnius or wotanserver and all of them are around 15 euros.
The procedure it's called test point method and you can find some info about it here .

Your link is about unlocking bootloader, topic starter asked about network unlocking.
To OP: If you plan to install custom ROMs, use Omnius/WotanServer or like that method, as you will require enabled fastboot also.
If you just want to unlock from the network, then you can do it by your operator via the code.
Doesn't matter, how you do it, either way you have to pay.

well you use the test point method to unlock the phone the only difference is that they patch the sim info so it unlock it along with the fastboot mode.
please think before posting this kind of comments as it can confuse users and i never said my link as you call it was for unlocking the sim i just said it has to do with the test point method.

Yep you use the test point method to unlock the phone but you need to do it with a company like woman server or omnius and unfortunately it is not free.
You could try Da Vinci unlocking, they're quite cheap and it worked fine for me.
Sadly you don't live in Brazil like me. All phones here have to be selled unlocked. If not, providers have to give unlock code for free. After all, you own the phone, not your provider. So you should be free to choose whenever sim card you want inside it.
Sent from my SK17a using xda premium
I don't know does this happen in every case, but generally I believe that this is how it works -
manufacturer price to networks of phone:
€400
Network sells phone to customer
€250
(network PAYS subsidy of €150 and wants customer to stay on the network long enough to pay back the subsidy in credit)
I think this is a little different to iPhone jailbreaking - in this case as a customer I think we are kind of robbing the networks - they paid money to make our phone cheaper, we're detaching ourselves before that money is repaid so the network DEFINITELY makes a LOSS. I believe it's illegal in some countries because of this. So this kind of network-unlocking is not the same as iPhone jailbreaking, I don't think.
p.s. I don't know how they do it in Brazil. I suspect that the customer might have to pay more when they buy the phone, maybe the network pays less. I seen on TV (don't know how true) that that's the philosophy with house-buying there - don't buy giant bank debt.
More or less like that, bro. We do get subsidized phones too due to competition between providers (we have 4 here with almost the same markeet share). So they offer subsidized (or even free) phones to get costumers with a good monthly billing. You get fidelity due to service plan, not locked with phones.
Sounds more fair, IMO. You bought your phone, it is yours. Even if the network provider subsidized it .

LG V10 DEMO (t-mobile) h901bk

Hello,
I need some help guys, so i'm looking into purchasing a LG V10 & I asked the seller to send me the imei just to make sure it's not blacklisted with t-mobile. The phone is clean, only problem I had was, beside the model number it says DEMO on the box. The seller said he won it through LG. Can a demo phone be unlocked & used as a normal phone or does it need to be rooted?
Thanks

Demos don't carry warranty, and legally cannot be sold words from my business Rep.
Thanks for the info, does it still work as a regular phone or will it have to be rooted?
My business Rep says itll be fine, but can't be traded in/upgraded through tmo or warranty exchange.
Is the phone unused as a demo model? I sometimes see demo devices advertised for sale, and the ones that were on display in stores are always shown to have some severe screen burn-in from displaying the same graphics for so long. The also say that the demo mode needs to be deactivated, but I'm not sure how that's done.

Thanks, i have verified it with tmobile and they advised a week ago these units were won in a competition and one rep won it as well. So he advised all were demo units. Only issue in having now is to make sure it will unlock. Tmobile has the device unlock app now

I have a close friend that works for T-Mobile. He won an Experia Z3 at a Christmas party last year that was a demo same as that V10. As others have said, the phone will not be warrantied in any way but will function exactly as any other V10. You'll be able to unlock and root just like any retail model.

Nope. What I have learned is that it is not treated as a T-Mobile phone and can't be unlocked. It isn't intended for commercial use but is fully functional as long as you have T-Mobile or a sister carrier.

Oneplus will definitely provide the unlock token if their higher level managers are aware of this issue.
They have the unlock token and just need to update the unlock website to include all Metropcs IMEIs.
It is really as simple as flipping a switch if the right person knows it.
According to data, most of the N10's sold in the US are actually the metropcs version. It is the most sold phone for metropcs. Not many people are buying it from t-mobile or oneplus directly.
Rightnow, all the chat/email representatives are not high level enough to flip that switch. That is why they told you oneplus cannot unlock metropcs n10's bootloader.
What we need to do is keeping asking the representatives to escalate this issue to higher managers.
i just did that on the online oneplus support and im now going to get on the phone and call to speak to a live person because i dont have muck faith in the person on the other end of that chat to actually escalate after asking that be done multiple times
I get the run around from OnePlus almost everyday they claim to escalate ticket

The chat/email agents are really low level.
They first replied me with t-mobile unlock policy, which has nothing to do with metropcs n10 bootloader unlock issue.
I bet they didn't even read my entire message except for the word "unlock".

Yeah that's the same site that every Metropcs owner has been going to they don't know how to unlock metro versions even if you have waited the 180 days
Metropcs/by TMobile has been hell with bootloaders.
If you can still find my guides on Android forums, the LG Motion 4g development shows how far metro will go to keep your device "stock".
Someone eventually adapted a Loki kernel to function and 2 years of crying became history
I guess I'm not the only one getting the run around. This device has great hardware and has been solid, but I don't like the idea of a company telling me how to use something I spent my hard earned fiats on! I am also waiting for a manager from oneplus to get back to me. Will keep ya'll posted!
OEM unlock is no longer greyed out on my phone.
I got the notification that my phone was capable of being unlocked via the metro unlocker app. After rebooting, OEM unlock was clickable af.
Didn't need the unlock token and I've already tested by firing up the muhfuggin dsu launcher
Good news:
Oneplus finally escalated my request to higer level manager and my metropcs n10 is now eligible for bootloader unlock token.
I just submitted mine and will wait 7 days to get the unlock token.

Your only options are recycle it, try to return it or get a refund if you used PayPal or Facebook or a credit card. And since the phone is over $1k usd you could probably file a police report but in some jurisdictions it's illegal to possess stolen property.
Other than that xda can't and won't help you.

Just for information, how do we check if it's blacklisted?

Blacklisted phones won't let you activate any sim cards at all and some of the phones will lock you out of the device completely whenever it's powered on

Thanks got everything taken care of
What's a blacklisted one? Is it like when apple locks you out of an iphone reported lost/stolen? Samsung can do the same?

Unfortunately, gone are the days when XDA had everything for free starting from unlocking to changing any aspect you want.

XDA never allowed talk about changing the IMEI and never allowed tools for doing so, at least as far back as I can remember and I've been here since 2007.
Mod Edit: Quoted Post Removed
I think because nowadays, most devices don't need heavy modifying. You are still going to get a percentage of people that love to tinker and modify, but a majority of people love how far android has come. Also devices used to not be unlockable, but now after a certain amount of time are all unlockable directly through your carrier or can be directly bought unlocked. These things made sense back in the day when you couldn't do it at all and it wasn't fair to be locked to a specific carrier but nowadays, as long as you have paid your device, you can unlock it and move to a different carrier after 60 days.
Try sim card in sim slot 2 it has a different imei and doesn't always get blacklisted.

I'm with you on this. Been here since 2008 and we NEVER allowed SIM Unlocking Talk and IMEI Swapping.
Agreed.

Yeah SIM lock but not IMEI swapping.
And ahhh, the good old days of HTC.
THREAD CLEANED
Hi guys - just cleaned the thread a little. As the others have already pointed out, discussions regarding IMEI change/swap are not permitted on XDA as it is illegal in quite a few of countries. As per Rule 9 of the the Forum Rules:
9. Don't get us into trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things which will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably shouldn't do it here either. This does not mean that we agree with everything that the software piracy lobby try to impose on us. It simply means that you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with the legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users and those that write great code.

Unfortunately, all foreign SIM cards have been blacklisted on US S23 devices after having limited support for almost 10 years. However, International Data Roaming will continue to work. For example, an S23 bought from AT&T and then unlocked CAN work with T-Mobile, but not with Rogers in terms of SIM cards.
This is the message you receive when you insert a blacklisted SIM card in your device. Even buying a new US variant won't do you any good.
