New Radios - HTC Rezound

I just wanna talk about how much i love this phone now. I was on the GB radios(which i though were hotsh*t) and on team venom i was having data drops so i decided to take the latest firmware and after i got it:
HOLY FRICKIN S***.
These radios are absolutely amazing.
I'm in Long Island, New York for vacation and the service isnt that great since its an island. (I was satisfied that i managed to hold a 4g connection on the ferry ride over but that was before i upgraded). When i got to the island data was awful. Very spotty 3g and 1xRTT. Since i upgraded to these awesome radios i've had 4g in places i didnt before and it hasnt dropped yet.
Now onto the next part:
Me vs. My Dad(Rez vs GS3):
So before my little upgrade i was having fun bragging to my dad about how his radios werent as good as mine and how i got 4g when he was stuck on 3g.
Now after I just dominate him. Hes getting really mad and is thinking about taking his phone back to the store to get a new one because he thinks its messed up. Where i held a 4g connection for a span of 20 minutes he had it twice for a span of 7 minutes. I just keep telling him that Samsung radios are awful...
I just thought i'd share how satisfied i am with these radios and how great they are. So if your on the fence definitely take radios, if not the firmware

Yeah, it's an island, but it's not a desert island. It's not like all the cell towers are across the Sound.

What about battery performance? Notice any difference?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2

I'm not sure about battery life but I'm definitely getting higher speeds. Before I would get around 15 down and 8 up. Now I'm getting around 35 up and 20 down.... Awesome sauce

Hboot = 2.27
Also in love with the new radio and kernel on a personal build of Slimkang based off the new RUU. Loving it and giving me awesome battery life. Before on gingerbread I would have to plug in at the end of a work day. Now I could go overnight without.

i like GB but then again i've always had great battery life.

It would make sense to have better battery life since your getting and holding better signal therefore your phone isn't having to work as hard. But yeah the ****ty radios on Samsung phones is the reason I can't make the switch to a nexus or a gs3. Whenever I compare to my friends nexus or gs3 I have Way better signal. Now if only HTC gets a move on dropping source, this phone will be perfect

I loved my rezound till i got a gs3 lol. They are both great phones but my rezound just collects dust now. I havent noticed a real difference in service between them. The gs3 works in all the same places my rezound does. The only problem I ever had with the rezound radio is that it will say you have good signal when you dont, like have 2 bars of 4g but cant get any data. I dont think you can always go by what the phone tells you I think the bars lie lol. You want great batt life get a gs3 it gets over double what the rezound does. But to each their own I have both phones and they are both great but that being said my rezound is getting ready for ebay lol.

its not lying. the bars have nothing to do with data connection. the bars are for voice and sms

I agree with poison. It took me days to finally decide to take the full ruu. (I'm s-on did it for hboot and radios) AND the main reasons I did was my WiFi tether its download speed was droppin in and out. Along with my 4g for that matter.. I maybe held three bars all day for mms AND calls. And it was useless to even keep my 4g on. But now with the latest sense 4 kernel the radios from the update And viperrez rom. I'm getting excellent battery life, and I havent seen less than full bars or any 4g fluctuations.. finally remember why I bought this phone to begin with now on to kernel source..

I know how I used to push staying on gb firmware but I think it's time to full go to ics. Also is almost done and the latest firmware is actually good. I hated all the other ones...

The sg3 is a awesome phone. Several friends have them, and I love the screens on them. But I can't live with the Sammy radios. I am on 4g in the middle of of work, and they can barely snag a 3g signal sometimes. Sure my battery may go quicker, but I have no connection issues.

+1! Or 1000! My radio already rocked in Cleveland, but now the battery is lasting longer and it's running MUCH cooler, even when I've had the screen on for an hour! Love it!

Why Does Reception Radio Suck So Much?

Coming from an Evo 4G the reception is definitely not as good on the 3d.
So is it that the physical radio is crappier or is it software related?

It's because those geniuses put the antennae at the bottom of the phone where your hand ....drives me !
Yea just a bad hardware set up, the antenna should be towards the top always lol

Well hopefully they fix the design on the next Evo/successor. I'm not used to upgrading technology and seeing my reception get worse. Usually it's always been at least a little better with every time I upgrade.

its sprint not your phone i get mad signal; with the verizon prl 4-6 bars always
I'm of the opinion Sprint or HTC screwed this one up. I flashed the a3 of Joelz' ICS yesterday and I've never had better reception. Another thing that blew me away is that my streaming services NEVER cut out since moving to ICS. Before, I'd be able to listen to MAYBE 5 minutes of a stream before it would inevitably drop and try to rebuffer or simply fail out to a lost-data message. Not once has a stream dropped since I imaged to the ICS ROM.

The reason you see more bars with that prl is because when roaming on Verizon our phones use the 800mhz band rather than 1900. and 800 penetrates better. If you had the original evo and 3d both on that prl and held both the 3d would have a lower signal

eh, mine is doing just fine how it is.
I just recently got stationed in Ft. Gordon, GA and my signal is worthless. Most everyone here is using AT&T and tethering off of 4G while I'm lucky to have 1 bar of 3G. Seriously I can't even stream a 5 minute YouTube video on my phone.
Supposedly there's some girl in my barracks that has a Sprint iPhone who gets good service.

But the leak was built for a carbon copy of our phones. It won't be much different when released officially. If they release radios with the update, you'll still be connecting to the same network.
Just don't get your hopes up for a big difference.

That has zero effect on signal strength. It might effect data throughput but not signal strength.
I doubt official firmware will boost performance over stock sprint firmware we have now.

LTE connection trouble

Having issues connecting to LTE, have to toggle airplane mode on/off for it to switch back into 4g? anyone know any workarounds or anything
You may get more responses if you gave some back ground info. Sense or aosp rom. Was it working before? Does it work fine for a friend?
It may be your phone or maybe you are on a fringe area.

These are known issues. The current stock ROM has provided some help but really depends on your area. If you are in a new or spotty LTE area you are likely to face this for a while. I still have this issue in the Baltimore and D.C.markets.

I'm in the same boat as you brother. Since launch day I've had issues like this even before the LTE came to my area. I actually just had to toggle airplane mode a few minutes ago. The mobile data toggle would be grayed out and eventually say disconnected and the mobile data toggle would be stuck and you get no response when pressed. The only way to get it back on is to toggle airplane mode like you said. I am on 3.16 with everything on the latest firmware/etc and rocking Viper 3.1.0. Its not ROM related I've had this problem for a while and on multiple ROMs. Trust me if I could get an S3 I would in a heartbeat...

I'd suggest waiting a little while and see if the problem persists once the area is finished with its LTE build out. If the problem doesn't resolve itself, then you should take it to a Sprint store and show them how it's behaving. They should offer you a replacement if other phones aren't doing the same thing as yours in that area.
Many people say it's a Evo LTE issue, but that just is NOT the case with every Evo LTE. I for one never have to toggle airplane mode or do anything at all. I constantly have LTE at my house and in my surrounding city. When I go between LTE and 3G areas, my data has no problems whatsoever jumping between those connections instantly.

Couple problems with that... I have no Sprint rip off insurance and I'm full blown rooted and customized. The guy in the OP could probably because he just purchased his but I'm pretty sure I'm screwed. Also it only happens maybe every other day its not a constant problem and I'm 100% sure if I took it to my Sprint store they will blame it on being rooted or tell me to screw myself because I don't have TEP.
Sent from my Blazing fast LTEvo!
Haha it just happened again right after I said it rarely happens twice in 1 day. The first picture is the mobile data being stuck/grayed out and unresponsive if touched then the 2nd picture is after cycling airplane mode.

After 3 evo lte replacements with same lte connection problem you have op, I decided to get a note 2 out right. I still have the evo and swap activation between both every now and then. I can tell you that the evo drops lte connection while the note 2 lte connection is just solid in the exact same area.

Insurance doesn't matter. The phone has a 1 year manufacturer warranty, and hasn't been out for a year yet. Also, if you're in contact, they'll want you to stay so they'll want your phone to be working properly.

Unlocking only matters if you're shipping the phone to HTC. Sprint could care less if you're dev unlocked or s-off. They can't blame it in the towers if you're in store and a GS3 or Note 2 that's on display isn't having the same issue as yours is.

I really do love this phone also. The build quality is outstanding. I hope the S3 is as good of a phone as people say. Its amazing how much more $ you could get for an S3 right now vs. The EVO LTE. I guess that speaks for itself on the quality of the S3. I'm so psyched to practically getting an upgrade and won't have to deal with this stupid problem for another year until my upgrade.

Doesn't really speak for quality as much as popularity/being well known. On ebay, an iphone 4 sells for as much, or more, compared to an Evo LTE. Kinda like a white Evo LTE sells for more than a black one. Same phone and quality, just that the white one is more popular.

[Q] Update EVO 4G LTE Firmware Or Not?

I'm having several issues with my phone and am on the verge of selling it and my OG EVO and getting an S3 or S4.
I stupidly purchased the device during the pre-order period last May (b4 any user reviews were out).
I'm rooted and running a stock ROM by Viper: Stock Rooted 3.15.651.16 Odex
3.15.651.16 710 RD
Android 4.1.1
Kernal 3.4.10-g 014d33e
Hboot 1.12.0000
Unlocked via HTC
S-On
TWRP 2.3.1.0
Baseband 1.02.12.0427
Radio version unknown
TWRP version 2.3.1.0
I don't know what radios (forgot where to find that info).
My issues are:
Random re-booting several times (3 to 6) per day.
Very rarely connect to LTE (and I live in L.A and work downtown).
On the rare occasion that I do connect to LTE, my apps (like maps) report, "This app requires a data connection", and I am un-able to access the Internet (but they work when the 3G icon is displayed).
I have read opinions that we should update our phones firmware to receive the latest improvements. However, xHausx has a post with links to firmware files, but he recommends NOT updating your firmware if your phone is S On (which mine is).
So I'm thinking of trying another ROM b4 giving up. But I'm unsure if there is any advantage (or dis-advantage) for me to update my firmware.
I want to stay mostly stock. I would prefer to keep Google Now. But after almost one year and still unable to use the LTE network here in Los Angeles (rumored to be nearly 50% complete), I'm about done waiting. The 3G network is painful, and I'm in effect paying $85 a month for 450 voice mins and email, but not much else.
You are on really old radios for one thing.
Not sure if that will solve your issue or not. But it's worth a shot. I would s- off the phone and then do the firmware updates.
Your baseband #'s are the radios.

Ah!. Well, tells you how long it's been since I've delved into this.
I assume I can S-Off even though I did the HTC unlock?
And I still have the constant re-booting issue to fix. Factory reset maybe?
You can use FacePalm to S-OFF you will find it in Original Development it takes about 5 minutes or less
Then you can update all your firmware manually using Captain_Throwback's firmware files
Any questions shoot me a PM

I just got the firmware and radios updated this afternoon, so I'll be checking it out fr the next couple of weeks to see if it does any better with Internet and LTE.
As far as where to sell it? That depends on where you are. Ebay is great for most people, but it takes longer because you have an auction to deal with.
Craigslist is ok if you're in a densely populated area. I'll probably use EBay if I do sell it, just because I'm willing to take a little time to get the best price.
But I'm hoping I can fix my issues because I still have 14 months left on my contract, and Sprint doesn't pro-rate until about 6 months into the contract. So I'm probably looking at about $300 to end it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Good luck. My Evo LTE has actually been pretty stable. No LTE though...and I work 1/4 mile from SPRINT HQ.

[Q] Improve Signal and Data Connection

Does anyone know if there is a way to improve or boost the phone's signal. My phone is rooted, unlocked, s-off, and I just updated all the radios, but the signal and data connection seems terrible. I live in downtown Fort Worth so I would think I would get a good signal but its rare to get full bars and when I step inside of a building it drops to 1 or none. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
New to Sprint?

I've had Sprint all my life, but it does feel that way, I feel like the phone it self has a terrible time picking up a good signal. I thought updating the radios would fix this, but nothing. It's still bad.
Did you only.update the radios or do the full firmware package?

You can't do just the radios anymore. Captain Throwback pulled the radio-only files some time ago.

Its been a while since I've looked at his OP over there, thanks for the input...
You could always pick up one of these and stick it on the rear cover to be mashed in between contact points. LOL

Stretch the contacts for the antennas under the rear cover. It made a big difference on mine. There is a thread about it somewhere on here, but it's been buried for a long time.
