Root shuts down phone without warning - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Using various root apps on the stock Ace S5830D DTLKI4 results in the phone shutting down without warning, or even any obvious clue in logcat/ddms.
I've separately installed root through ChainsDD Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip, Chainfire's CWM-SuperSU-v0.95.zip and also with the older files included in SuperOneClick 2.3.3...
Trying to run Adfree, Stericson's Busybox installer and Titanium Backup restore operations, for instance, all result in a sudden shutdown.
The idea here is to run the stock ROM, so I'm running out of ideas.
Help?
Thanks in advance,
Darkshado

Happens in XWKTM but does not happen in DDKQ8.
It is surely due to improper root privileges.

Why don't you use the normal universal gingerroot? I've never had problems with it. And I actually used it while I was on KTM.

I had the issue that my phone wasn't letting me root. I just installed a custom rom that is already rooted and it worked fine after that.

[Q] Rooting/backup issues

Ok just got a replacement Vibrant. I Immediately went to the official release of froyo to test. Installed fine using KIES. Attempted to Root and did so successfully using the SuperOneCLick app wich when finished tested and confirmed root. Went to install Busybox and it gives me the Nand locked error.
1)Is there a way to confirm phone is nand locked?
2)Ive only found a way to unlock nand is for the Bell version or requires a paid app or extra non Tmobile sim card (wich I dont have). Is there a way to unlock nand for Tmobile not involving either sim card or cash?
3)Is it possible to odin a different rom/kernel (namely TW's Newest Nero) if phone is nand locked and have working busy box/root?
open titanium backup and click on 'problems?' to d/load busybox, same issue?
Yes it downloads busybox and then says "failed" after verifying busybox. Says cannot get root permissions. Please verify you have root and Busybox.
download terminal
open it
type "su" (no quotes)
what did it return?
SU comes up with "Permission denied". Should I try using the "update.zip" method with froyo? As i said the other program confirmed root supposedly. Super User Is installed BTW.
Did you follow this guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925400
Ok that was the guide i was following. Issue was that whenever I tried to dl the recommended file manager from market , It would show the dl completeing and then close with the application never installing and not showing up in applications. I had already had ES File explorer installed as that was my favorite on my initial vibrant (pre official 2.2) because the ease of transferring files wirelessly and other functions. I uninstalled ES and ran Titanium again and this time was prompted for SU rights. After giving rights to Titanium i again ran the "Problems" button and ths time busybox installed. Restarted Ti and ran "Problems" and updated busybox just fine.
Seems my immediate issue is done. Now on to backup and then ROM's.
You, my friend, deserve a big, sloppy, man kiss.
*BTW The app Super Manager is still not installing for me even after removal of ES and reboot of phone.
Open titanium backup
Select "market"
Wipe data
Wipe it again for good measure.
Still in tb
Menu > market doctor
Fix market links
reboot
Open market
Agree to terms
Issue fixed?
Perfect that did the trick. Never knew about that feature in Ti Backup. Again many thanks. Working on the CWR signature issues now, following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423 . Dont want to do anything until I have a nandroid to fall back on.

Had the same issue when I tried to root my stock 2.2 Vibrant.
Busybox has to be installed somewhere in /system, I believe. The version of 2.2 that Samsung Kies installs, however, has /system packed completely full of bloatware, so there's no room for busybox.
What worked for me was to root with SuperOneClick, then reboot my phone. That got the Superuser app working, so I could use a file manager (I used Super Manager) with root privileges to go into /system and delete some of the bloat to make room for busybox.
An alternative choice is to just flash something else, instead of sticking with a rooted stock 2.2 firmware. As far as I know, all stock 2.1 builds have room in /system for whatever you might need to put there.
let me try to install file manage and clean some unwanted files and try again...

I used Super Manager for the job, but I think about any file manager that can use root privileges would work.
Be sure to only delete bloat. Stuff like Sims 3, Amazon mp3, Slacker Radio, that sort of thing. Those are really just apps, and have no business being in /system. They're only put there because T-Mobile didn't want us to be able to delete the bloat they were paid to pre-load onto our phones. /system also holds all sorts of stuff your phone needs to work properly, so you can end up forced to Odin to stock if you delete stuff that's not bloat.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925400 is the thread that I followed to get root working on my previously stock 2.2 Froyo Vibrant. It's /system/app that you need to clean up bloat from.
Thanks i could delete unwanted apps and free up some space in system folder. I could unlock my phone and use AT&T sim.

Problem with Root and SU

So, when I rooted I installed SuperSU and uninstalled Superuser.
Went through the steps to from the mod to get all apps into the multi view window. During the move odex services I got stuck in bootloop and had to re-odin the root image file.
Now that everything is set superuser is obviously the file back in charge of handling SU prompts from apps but for some reason it's not accepting/hearing them so anything I install that requires root is crashing.
Attempted clearing the SU data but it didn't help.
Is there anyway to fix this short of flashing back to stock then back to root?
Would mounting the system as writable, deleting SU and then re-flashing the root image fix the problem?
Basically I'm trying to avoid resetting my phone up to get this done.

I thought for sure that SuperSU is what was used in that file but I guess there must be a couple out there? The method I used never installed Superuser...?
EDIT: Nevermind I see that there are 2 different root methods and one uses SuperSU. Sorry

I used the file from imnuts, which used superuser and not supersu.
I went ahead and deleted superuser, xbin/su and am reflashing. hope this fixes the problem.
which worked until the phone randomly rebooted and got stuck in loop..
and it was either sdpeed increase or lbe privacy guard causing it.
jellybean works better with supersu...try the file mrRobinson created...ie the original root image.

Ive even removed superuser and installed supersu and doing the all apps mod was causing this issue.
I have a feeling it could be because I was renaming the services.odex file before replacing it.
Trying a direct overwrite was causing a non stop bootloop I couldn't get out of 4 seperate occassions.

[Q] what exactly happens during the rooting process?

I'm aware what rooting is and I'm benefiting from it on daily basis on my GT-I9100. However, what exactly happens during the rooting process? As I understand, (often) custom recovery(for example Clockworkmod recovery) is installed, an application for managing programs which might need root access(for example SuperSU) is installed, su utility for switching to root user is installed, but what else happens? Are there some file permissions changed during the rooting process?
All I know is I had to install supersu from playstore after rooting and then downloaded rom manager to get clockworkmod but idea I got was the rooting itself strips security from phone so that you can gain full access that samsung otherwise blocked. I havent looked in depth to see anything that the root itself installed but hey im a newbie with this sort of stuff

You can install all these great programs from the Play Store that require root, also you have manual access (through file explorer) to your system files like frameworks, stock sounds, built-in apps and more. You can disable the annoying ads in the games, you can backup your app data (like progress in games, so you don't have to start over and over again), you can backup settings, change the system look (icons, sounds etc.) and much more. Otherwise you won't see any interface changes or unlock some hidden options. Everything is done through the programs.
^The guy knows what you can do with root, he's asking what the details of the rooting process are.
I don't know either but I think you basically unlock the boot loader, then install SU.

At a high level the following changes (and a few more I cant think of) are made to the device:
Access to previously read-only areas of memory are changed to read-write
A binary called busybox is pushed to the handset (the location varies depending on rooting method used)
Busybox is a set to linux like tools compiled spercifically for the CPU of the device (usually ARM)
The SuperUser or other 'Gate Keeper' application is installed to allow and monitor access to the busybox binary (this is optional but is normally done by default and is required for most root apps to function.)
In essence, your original post is almost spot on.

Look man, superuser is ROOT. Either your phone is rooted or it is not. A rooted phone can run apps that require it like ClockworkMod ROM Manager, Titanium Backup, Greenify, Wireless Tether for Root Users, File managers like Root Explorer or ES File Manager if you want to be able to access the system areas of the phone. So far as I know, there is no "SuperUser of ClockworkMod". If your phone is rooted (You will see superuser or "Super SU" in your app drawer. Here is a free app from the playstore that will tell you if your phone is rooted or not.
Root Checker
Install it and use it to see if your phone is still rooted or if you lost root somehow. If you still have root, then when CWM starts, it will ask for root privileges and the first time it asks, you will be prompted to grant it, once, for a certain time period, or forever. For stuff like CWM, root file managers, and Titanium Backup, you always grant root forever and you will not be asked again until the app updates and requires you to okay granting root privileged or not, then you grand forever and leave it alone.
If you find out you do not have root or lost your root, then you have to root the phone and the procedure is different for different devices, versions, and ROMS. For that kind of help, you have to search for rooting <your particular device and android version number>
