Rooted & s-off'd, how do I..... - HTC Rezound

Ok, I am having a little brain freeze. I am working on my wife's phone. I have gotten it unlocked, rooted and s-off. I believe it is still on the old firmware.
hboot-2.25.2525
radio-1.22.10.0421r
I want to get her on the latest firmware and on running Vigor360 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852119
My mind has seemed to go blank on how to get there.
Thanks,
Brad

I was able to figure it out. After reading and reading and reading I decided that I would follow these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830859&highlight=ruu
I don't know if I did it right or if it was the long way but I still ended up where I wanted to be

Thanks. Weird thing was I lost recovery and it showed Tampered and Locked. So I went through the unlock process and fastboot AmonRa recovery again. But I now have my ROM of choice installed. SUCCESS

The RUU replaces your recovery with stock.

+1 to the guy above.
Running a ruu turns everything to stock including hboot and recovery.

[Q] Root Questions + S-Off HELP needed.

So like most users, I was very excited to hear about the ICS leak by Football since I've been waiting MONTHS for some sort of development on that.
Getting impatient on waiting for CM9 and Evervolv builds for the Amaze, I really wanted to try this new leak for T-Mobile. So I figured that in order to do that, I must get S-Off.
It seemed like a tedious process so I've been holding it off for a while. Now that I've got a copper wire and everything, I wanted to do the deed once and for all.
So I accidentally flashed a stock rom (which I thought was a good thing since the instructions said I needed a stock rom), but I seem to have lost root access. Superuser runs, but battery calibration says I need to have root first and Titanium Backup doesn't work. However, my phone still says unlocked and I can still run ClockworkMod Recovery. The S-Off program tells me that there's an error. Is there anyone that can help?

Well you are on T-mobile so you have two choices here. you can S-off if you want to have total freedom or you can revert your phone to stock and relock your bootloader and flash it and then re-unlock again. but remember flashign this without s-off may prevent you from getting s-off later on.

Well, I can't flash the PH85IMG without S-Off, right? Because on the HBoot screen, it would load the file but i wouldn't be asked if I wanted to install it. So I had no idea what to do. I thought I had to have S-Off to install it. Does this really mean I've lost root even though my phone says unlocked and I can run Clockworkmod?

Pretty sure you just use fastboot to lock, open a command prompt with your phone attached in debugging mode, type in fastboot oem lock, then install the stock rom listed in the development section. (If I am wrong on this, someone please feel free to correct me.)

[Q] Serious problems switching ROMs

I've got an Amaze 4G on Wind Mobile. My brother and I recently tried upgrading it to ICS. We followed numerous sets of instructions, flashing a recovery, a new version of hboot, s-offing the phone, changing the SuperCID and flashing an ICS ROM. We originally tried Android Revolution HD, but the phone always got stuck at the HTC logo and wouldn't boot up.
After a few hours of searching the forums and trying various things, we finally got the Energy ROM version 5/1 installed, after changing the SuperCID back to the Wind default (globa001 I think). We figured it was an issue with the Revolution ROM, but when I tried upgrading to Energy 5/6, I ran into the same issue.
I have searched the forums and found numerous people with the same problem, but I have not found a solution. I spent all night flashing ROMs and trying various things and I finally got it to go to the Energy boot animation, but it would just sit there and do nothing (I left it a good half hour). The next morning I tried installing Speed Rom with the SuperCID 11111111 and it worked. However, I had tried the same thing the night before, so I'm not sure what changed.
I'm not happy with Speed and would like to go back to Energy, but I'm worried it will brick my phone again.
I am currently using the TWRP recovery, but I used 4ext before with the same result. My firmware versions are as follows:
RUBY PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.93.0002
OpenADSP-v02.6.0.2226.00.0202
eMMC-boot
Any help would be very much appreciated.

ok, well if your on wind mobile you want to use super cid.
but heres what i think the problem is, you didnt mention anything about wiping. try flashing the superwipe.zip before flashing roms. and always have a nandroid of a working rom. or else you may get stuck....
if you need anymore help, i will be watching this thread
Sorry, I forgot to mention that. I used superwipe and tried the various wipe options in the recovery, with the same result.
I'll definitely look into nandroid before I try installing another rom ;-)
I'd advise switching back to 4EXT recovery, makes flashing easier, trust me. Now update your phone to stock ICS, install 4EXT recovery then format all partitions except sd then install the ROM of your choice.
Before installing ICS you'll need to flash GB stock from WIND, then update to ICS via either OTA or directly on the phone via OTA. Then do what I said above, let us know what happens.
yeah like dark said above me, use 4ext. it makes flashing easier.

Thanks for your help everyone. I'm a little confused about how to proceed though. I downloaded the stock Wind ruu.exe file from the forums, but I'm not sure what to do with it. I'm running Linux, so I can't execute the file. Is there any way to flash it without a Windows machine?
Also, do I need to relock my bootloader and go through the whole s-off procedure again, or can I simply downgrade to GB and upgrade back to ICS again without going through all those steps?

Once you're s-off once, you'll always be s-off unless you s-on again, to use the windows file your best option would be to use WINE. Which I figure you should be know how to use.

Latest ICS OTA

I'm interested in getting the latest OTA update and attempt to S-Off. I am currently unlocked via HTCDev, on the old GB firmware, and running CleanROM DE.
How do I go about doing this? I've searched the forum and attempted to relock for a couple of hours now with no success. Can someone please give me some instructions on what I need to do? From what I've read, it would be better to get the latest OTA before attempting S-Off. Is that right?
I am no expert, but I believe if you made a back up of the stock Rom, you could just restore it, then s-off. It would be easier to s-off, then you could ruu the newest update, and install a custom recovery after that. Like I said, I am no expert.

I didn't back up the stock ROM. How can I get back to stock so I can attempt S-Off?
Have you thought about following these directions?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696394&highlight=stock+rom+recovery
They worked for me.
Those are the instructions I was following. It says you must be on a stock gingerbread ROM or the 3.14.605.5 ICS Leak niether of which i am on so I guess that was my issue. It would get stuck after the first reboot and tell me to check device manager for adb or hboot drivers. I'm fairly certain I have all the drivers installed so it must be the rom I'm on. Thats why I was trying to figure out how to get back to stock.

Ok, then it must not be the ROM. It has to be a problem with the drivers. I even uninstalled the drivers I had and installed them directly from the tool. Any ideas?

To RUU, you need to lock the bootloader first, you DO rename it to ph98img.zip and then flash in hboot.
I s-offed by just flashing the stock, rooted version of the RUU first...I didn't have to lock! I'll look for a link. :good:

[Q] Rezound Does Not Boot - Can Only Access Bootloader

[SOLVED - See Post #9]
Hey everyone,
So, I have some experience with rooting/ROMs, bootloaders and recoveries, all specifically on my HTC Droid Incredible (Yep, the original). But that's long in the tooth these days, and getting rather difficult to stand the slower speeds and all.
I decided to pick up a used phone, in this case an HTC Rezound, to repair and serve as my default. Cracked digitizer, but that's an easy fix, and it works for the moment which is all that matters. Turns out there was one more problem with it - it doesn't boot Android. It gets stuck in a bootloop if you allow it to boot, but it does go to hboot if you boot it up and hold the VOL down key, as expected. I cannot boot into recovery.
I tried flashing the 4.03.605.2 RUU from AndroidPolice - same problem. So, I'm not sure where the issue lies. I'd like to start by just getting the phone back to stock, and booting into Android if anyone can help me. I should be able to do everything properly from there.
I'm not entirely certain if HBOOT is stock - it shows the Android on the skateboard at the bottom - I'm not sure if that's a custom HBOOT or not, and I can't seem to find any specific reference to it. It is LOCKED with S-ON, so, I've been assuming that it hasn't been tampered with too deeply, someone just hosed an upgrade and I'm not sure how to go about getting it fixed.
Any help is deeply appreciated.
- Katie

Flash a recovery in a zip right after you finish the ruu using the same method (no need for reboot).
To get root again you might want this: downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip

Update
Small update - I did the HTC bootloader unlock and successfully got Amon Ra flashed onto it. Now working on getting Android to boot. *sigh* This thing is a serious pain in the...
If I get it to work, I'll be sacrificing a ram, or at least some RAM. :fingers-crossed:
Still, I'm open to any suggestions or help anyone can offer. Thank you!
I would make a nandroid now and keep it as is for a bit just to make sure it functions okay.
Then if all is good flash a ROM!
I'm running ViperRez and it's very good. Doesn't seem to stream bluetooth media but all else is good. Very nice daily driver. There might be an update coming which will hopefully fix the bt steaming.

Heh, that would be doing things the SMART way. I'm going to do the unofficial CM9 which has BT streaming media, but not phone - sadly, something I'm much more interested in. I am wondering if I can't get the stock ICS or JB on there and just stick with that, since I do like using my BT headset. But since I've had no luck so far getting that to go on there, I think I'll take my chances with CM9 first, and go from there.
If I get that, I'll back it up thoroughly and then try my hand at putting the stock 4.03 on instead.
Solved!
Ok, so, I got CM9 booted!
The short of what I did was the following steps:
1) HTC Dev Bootloader Unlock
2) Installed Amon Ra
3) Installed CM9 using the S-ON instructions found at the site below - I can't link yet, so forgive me.
Code:

Oh! I misread your last post above mine and thought you had gotten it back to stock.
Your issue was exactly what you figured out, that when you are s-on you need to flash the kernel separately after flashing a ROM or else you'll get stuck. If you s-off that will be automated but s-off makes it easier to brick your phone. I don't flash often so I'm staying s-on.
Sorry I misread your post, I could've let you know about that.

I'm hoping there's something i can do from this point, I'm just not sure what.
You have to fastboot flash the kernel/boot.img since you are s-on
Download meanbean rom and follow the instructions in the op for s-on, then go get s-off... Good luck!

I was just trying to figure out how to edit my post when you replied. I managed to figure that part out. Looks like everything is working now.
Thanks for the fast reply!
Now go get some moonshine!
