Hi,
I own a sgs2 running the latest CM10 rom by codeworks.
My phone all worked fine until 1 week ago, when out of the blue I lost 3G connection. I still run Edge just fine.
I run on the giffgaff network in the UK. I checked all my APN settings 5000 times, played around with them, resetted them, doesn't help.
There is no coverage issue in my area (I traveled around London anyway). I have the right plan.
I used someone else's SIM card with a data plan, it didn't help either.
I flashed a different modem (LPS), didn't help.
I google'd a bunch of stuff that didn't help at all basically.
I would understand if I didn't have any data connection at all, but I can get Edge just fine and browse the internet/download, it's just painfully slow.
Does anyone have an idea about how to fix my issue? I'll literarily take every piece of advice right now.
Thanks,
Gary

Solution:
1. Goto Settings
2. Under wireless & network, select more
3. Select mobile networks
4. Disable data connection, wait for 5mins
5. Uncheck use only 2G networks
6. Enable data connection
Problem should be solved now

Woah amazing. I didn't think waiting 5 mins would change a thing, but it did. Works now, thanks so much.

Hay gang I'm running Vetvitos rom on my Metro Pcs flashed TP and I can't get Opera to work on data connection only Wifi . Anyone know a fix for this ? I also am having an issue with email. Seems to only work now and then. I go to Data connections settings/ Advanced and click select networks and it always changes to my isp and not metropcs like it is supposed to be on. Mail only comes through like once a day or so. Any help would be great. thanks
ROM : VillainROM 3.0.0
Kernel : Ninphetamine 2.0.5

After applying the fix for Hotspot settings to save in another thread (chown and chmod the /data/misc/wifi) I tried to turn on the hotspot, after all, this was inevitably what I got the phone for, H+ Hotspot.
Now I turn it on and the network appears in my computer, but if I try and connect to it, after I type in the security key, it comes up with "Connecting" and just stays like that permanently...
Eventually it sometimes says "Limited Access".
My phone does have internet connection, but why does it not work.
Does your network allow tethering?
Did it work on another rom?
Have you tried a hard reset?
I'm using tethering on VR but with speedmod kernel with no issues.

Orange in the UK for example use and APN on their SGS2 roms that doesn't allow tethering (you can set up a tethering connection no problem, but the network won't let you have any data).
They also lock the APN down so it isn't editable (insert rude word about Orange)!
You can get round the problem by adding another generic APN for all connections and using that.
i was having the same problem and struggled alll these days for solution. I used to get limited acesses and hence checked the ip4 & ip6 drivers connectivity for solution with no luck.
Then clicked on windows update, after update everything started working. So try to update your windows.
presently i am on turkbey ROM and it is working and also checked with sensation 1.9 and here tooo works!!!!!
Hey all, thanks for all your replies.
Network: 3
Plan: The One Plan +Tethering
Resolved: Yes.
For anyone else wondering how I fixed my problem:
1) Rebooted the phone
2) Rebooted my PC
3) Turned off the WiFi Adapter in my PC
4) Turned it Back On
5) Turned off WiFi on phone
6) Turned Hotspot on without any authentication
7) Worked on PC
8) Changed back to WPA2 PSK
9) Worked with Key.

I had wifi tethering working fine on Orange with SGS running Froyo 2.2.1, but have just upgraded my handset to SGS2 running Gingerbread 2.3.5 (stock XWKI8 firmware), and wifi tethering isn't working now.
As far as I can see I have exactly the same APN settings in my new SGS2 as in the old SGS, but maybe I need to use this new trick.
What do you mean by "adding another generic APN for all connections and using that"? If I add a new APN, what settings do I put in?
Thanks.
Hey, everyone. Using your AMAZING n00b guide and overall lurking of this website for several months since January I've done quite a few awesome things with this phone. Currently I am running Cyanogen Mod 7.1.0-Ba2tF-Olympus (any further information how I got there can be provided if necessary). I'm having a slight issue though. I've noticed that sometimes I'll randomly have no data or cellular service what-so-ever. To gain access to data and cellular service at that point I will then have to restart the phone, wait for it to boot, turn on WiFi, wait for that to connect, use an application like Browser or Facebook to test connectivity, if data transmits then I'm good, then AND ONLY after I go through all that can I disable WiFi and connect through regular data and cellular channels. I was wondering if this has happened to any of you and if anyone had any idea on how to fix it?
If you need clarification I'd be more than happy to try and sort my explanation out for you.
Thank you all in advance and I hope to hear from you soon!
Hello,
Did your APN settings are good ?
You can found it there : Setting / networks / Mobile Networks / Access Point Name.
Where are you from, what is your carrier ?
Regards.
I am thinking you need to flash a new radio.

This may sound like a crazy question but there are 2 locations i'm at a lot that have 0 to 1 bars of 3g and an edge tower right on top of them. Anyway for some reason the phone almost always wants to grab onto the 3g and it is a horrible connection for both voice and data. I have wireless there so i really don't care about data but dropping calls sucks. Is there an app, solution, workaround to forcing the phone onto the cel tower i want to use instead of letting it decide to do the wrong thing?
thanks
Have you tried just turning off mobile data in settings?

Settings > Wireless & Network > More > Mobile Network > Network mode > select GSM only and it will only use the gprs connection. If you dont want to use the GPRS connection then uncheck the " Use Packet Data Option ".
I've actually tried that while it disables data it doesn't force a switch on the tower. I guess my title & original question isn't quite right.
so now i guess how do i force my phone onto a different tower so i can actually get good service when i need it.
I just use the switchpro widget, since then i can turn on and off a lot of stuff from my homescreen.

Under mobile network settings, change it from auto mode to gsm only. I guess this is what you are looking for

actually i was just about to post the gsm/wcdma/auto to get it to switch over. However it does not always work sadly. I remember on an old moto (forget model) that i could actually choose a network tower, man i wish i could do that now

It perfectly works for me. If i set gsm only, it stays on edge and if i set wcdma only, it stays on H+ for me.
sorry should have been more specific again. it will go to edge but will often decide to pick a tower far away instead of a close one
Hey, so I have a Samsung Galaxy S running CyanogenMod 9.
I want to test if my 3g is actually working or not. I used to use the 3G internet on the phone until I changed plan without mobile internet and now I've changed back. The problem is there is no 3G connection now.
I've been onto my network's forums and followed their instructions for setting up APN's etc. and the settings are perfect (even though I never changed them since the last time it worked)
So my question is that is there some way to test if your 3G hardware is actually functioning?
Bump. Does anyone know anything to test if your 3G h/w is working?
Bump. Anyone?
