hey guys, please i need alotta help.
i have the samsung vibrant obviously.
this is what my current situation is. im stuck at the phone to computer screen, and the only thing i can do is get into download mode. but when i try to load the stock vibrant rom using odin, it just stops at dont turn off target! the phone does indeed connect to odin so that's not the problem, but when i click start to flash the stock rom, it just stops at dont turn off target! i cant figure out why it wont flash the rom, and i have no idea what to do, please help! :[
this what i did that caused this. i had the oneclicklagfix installed from ryan. i then uninstalled the lagfix because i wanted to flash the bionex 1.3 rom. it seemed like it was flashing all fine, and then it booted up to the phone to comp screen! :[ like i said, i can only get into DL mode, and then odin doesnt do anything. i tried deleting all user data, and cache data. please help me, i dont know what to do! thanks alot!
Make sure you have the drivers for you phone and have the latest version of odin. I know it took me at least 3 to 4 tries with the old version of odin 1.0. The new version 1.3 went through on the first try.

I can attest to this. V1.0 kept having issues for me, so I downloaded V1.3 and had no issues. If you install Samsung Kies it should install all the drivers you need on your computer to communicate with your phone. If you still can't get it flashed back to stock try flashing this ROM first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740558 and than flashing the stock ROM.
Try using a different USB port. I had the same issue "stuck on do not turn off target" while odin was using com4. When odin switched from com4 to com5 it completed in about 5 minutes.
purpose:
Obtain a full stock phone rooted with cwm and this mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530
the mod needs to be applied to a rom on the pc than flashed with cwm to work.
I wish to try both GB and ICS, actually phone has latest gb german open firmware
I found it on sammobile I9100GXXLB1_I9100GDBTKL2_DBT.zip
After days of search I understood that cwm is only available with a modded kernel and the mod needs cwm but I want original kernel.
IS possible to do what I wish or is it an impossible task?

update:
THE GOOD
Finally decided to flash a cwm 5.0.2.8 kernel and rooted with superoneclick, all works: backup.
THE BAD
than I tried to flash the last cyanogenmod9..stuck on boot for 20min, recovery is now cwm 5.5.something.
restored the backup so now I have back 5.0.2.8 cwm. firmware works perfectly, kies does connect.
tried to flash original ics firmware with odin..stuck on setup connection! (whatever I try to flash stucks on setup connection)
is normal that odin can't connecto with cwm? problem is not pc because I tried with another one.
now I have a GB 2.3.6 rooted (kies says is up to date, german phone) but I wish to try cyanogenmod..I understand the problem is I do not have ICS bootloader..but I do not have odin connection too so I am stuck.
Guys please help me, I'm coming from an lg optimus one and really never had so many problem.
Advice to google: all that pain is to make tasker able to switch to 2G 3G, every adnroid I had I spend days of work to have that. Please stop that thing, make it available.
U need ics bootloader before flashing cm9... one way is to flash stock ics to get the ics bootloader...then flash cm9..
Sent from my GT-I9100G using xda app-developers app
U need to go to odin mode in phone then connect to pc... not in cwm mode..
Sent from my GT-I9100G using xda app-developers app
I am aware that I need ics bootloader and that I should flash ics original firmware.
how do I go in odin mode? actually I have cwm recovery and odin is stuck in "setup connection".
thanks for your support, I'm going crazy
edit:
odin mode: dolume DOWN+home+power
cwm mode: volume UP+home+power
this very stupid thing made me crazy for 2 days, I feel very stupid and also I'm still asking myself how is possible that nobody told me that.
Anyway...done.

So here's the dealio guys, I've been researching about rooting and custom ROMs and such since I got my S2 (i777) a few months ago. I really don't like Touchwiz, and the stock ICS look is just better. So I found a nice-looking ROM (the AOKP ROM), rooted my phone with no problems using Siyah/Odin, and went ahead and put the ROM in an external SD card that I bought just for this purpose. So I boot into recovery mode (with ROM Manager), and then... nothing. I try to boot up my phone but it just flashes the start screen showing my model number, then just turns right back off. I've tried taking out my battery, still no dice. BUT, I can still get into download mode (but not recovery). So is there any way to restore the backup I made before installing the ROM using the download mode?
Thanks!

1. Never use ROM manager.
2. reflash i777 kernal with Odin.
3. get to recovery the correct way. ROM Manager is a joke.

Yeah, I hate Touchwiz. I found an unroot file, flashed it, and now I'm back to Gingerbread 2.3.4. I'm going to probably update to ICS again, then try once more to put that ROM on here. I won't use ROM Manager this time, hopefully it'll go alright.

iF you just want a custom ROM, just flash a custom kernel with odin, boot into recovery and flash said ROM. no need to go back to stock, update, flash another ROM, then root.....yada yada yada. waste of time and space on computer

So I can do all this from Gingerbread? It was an ICS ROM that basically is just like the stock Google version. That's what I have been wanting since the beginning.

yea, in order to flash a custom ROM, you need custom recovery, ahh hell, been so long i forgot about having a rooted system required or not.
think you do, so should be able to get a rooted package, flash that, enter recovery and flash the ROM that you like.
Maybe someone will chime in and refresh my memory on the rooted system requirement.
U can flash a custom kernel .tar with Odin. There are some siyah tar files floating around. Or u could make a .tar yourself if u really wanted to. Once flashed it'll have cwm built in and u can flash whatever u want.

You only need root to install and use the Mobile Odin app, which is used for installing a custom kernel without tripping the flash counter. Once you've got Mobile Odin, download the custom kernel (e.g. Siyah) you want (ICS kernel if you're gonna install an ICS rom, same for GB), extract the zImage to your phone, and use Mobile Odin to install it. Note that if you're currently running GB and flash an ICS kernel, your phone won't boot but you can still get into CWM, which is all that matters because then you can flash the ICS rom of your choice and then your phone will boot.
Alternatively, you can do what Phalanx said and flash a custom kernel using PC version of Odin. Only difference between this and using Mobile Odin is you trip the flash counter, which can be fixed in any ICS rom by using the TriangleAway app.
The custom kernel will include CWM, which can then be used to flash any ROM/mod; in fact CWM is the ONLY safe method of flashing/wiping/restoring/backing up anything from that point forward.

This may not be the place to ask but how can I reset the flash counter that pops up in download mode
Sent from my SGH-I777
As long as you're running ICS, just download TriangleAway from the Play Store. That'll reset the flash counter to 0 and get rid of the yellow triangle that appears on start up.

Bricked S2 too!
I finally bricked my first phone. Its been a long ride but it caught up to me. I have had three different android phones within about 4 years and have successfully rooted all three myself and have successfully flashed them over and over close to 1000 times between all three phones including modems, kernals, gapps, themes etc. So what gives? Why today? To be honest I don't know. But here is what happened...
The past few days I have been going back and forth between different kernals for this device to try to get something that won't freeze up. ( I liked browsing on this phone but I would get freeze ups and therefore would flash something new to try and resolve it.) Today my phone froze so I tried a simple reboot. The boot then did a freeze on the kernal's "intro" picture. It wasn't a bootloop it just frooze. (I was on XWLPT with Skyfire Kernal). I decided to reboot into recovery and flash a different kernel. I flashed NEAK The flash went halfway then stuck and froze. I rebooted to try to get back to the phone's main screen. This time it would not boot. I couldn't tell if it was in bootloop or was froze. I went back into recovery. Here I should of wiped everything but in the back of my mind I thought I could just do it in odin if I lost recovery. So I tried flashing Siyah for sammy roms. This is when I lost everything. It froze in cmw on the flash again but this time when I tried going back into recovery it stayed on the Galaxy SII screen. So I put the phone in download mode and started Odin up. When trying to flash anything in Odin I got stuck on nand write start! I never heard of this. I thought Odin would work as this is how I rooted the phone when I first got it. Last thing I did was install kies which couldn't even connect to the phone. So all I am left with is download mode and taking way more caution when flashing. I think it may have been a case of the brickbug. Even though I was on a I9100 rom and using "safe" kernels I believe something happened to lock me out from writing anything to the phone.
As long as you don't mind overwriting any data on the device you can use Kies for a complete restore. Download the latest version from Samsung, then click on the Tools selection, then "Firmware Upgrade and Initalization." You'll need your devices model number and serial number from underneath the battery. Follow the directions to put the device in download mode and proceed. You'll end up with a new factory-fresh reload.

Now this i didn't know. My SII has been acting really weird ever since I unrooted. It won't let me update my firmware past 2.3.4 for some reason. So if I did this, it will most likely fix that problem?
Alright, I connected my phone to Kies, and went to Tools>Firmware Upgrade and Initialization, and it says my device does not support initialization. It also says this right under my device info:
Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current firmware version: PDA:KH7 / PHONE:LE5 / CSC:KH7 (ATT)
Ugh, really getting tired of this. Why is my phone being retarded? I don't think I want to bother rooting anymore, it seems like more of a hassle than a good thing. I really don't want to have to break my phone to get a replacement with my warranty. How do I fix this, guys?!
hi, guys I updated my phone to 4.1.2 official and it wouldnt boot pass at&t logo. I tried flashing with odin but it sticks at cache.img or settingupconnection. I realised that when connecting my phone to the computer in download mode it connects as samsung modem. From what i read I need to change the phoneutil settings which you can usually access by dailing *#7284#. But I cant get the phone to fully boot. So is there another way that I can change the modem diagnostic setting to PDA? thanks if you can help
When in download mode nothing done from a booted os would have any effect.
You need to fix your drivers

some progress
yeah I have installed and uninstalled drivers like a million times. I even tried kies. Also i got odin v3.07 to succesfully flash 4.1.2 UCMD8 and then i did a factory reset and clear cache but it would just bootloop. I have the device working on CM10.2 now. I had to sideload CWM with adb and restore one of the backups I had but the problem only my CM backup worked and not my shostock backup. I also tried flashing cooked 1.8 and 1.3 to get stock 4.1.2 but they both went black on bootup so I had to revert to CM again. I cant use the dialer codes for CM so i still cant access phone utilities to change usb modem.
edit. if i connect the usb in CM the computer recognizes and connects as MTP but in download mode it still connects as modem and not adb
Download mode should not be recognized as adb.

OK thanks... well I give up on the Odin part. I've tried CM9.1, CM0.1 and CM10.2 and all of them work just fine but when I install Samsung based roms all of them stick at boot animation. I then have to restore a backup of one of the CM roms. Any idea why that would happen ?

Yes I have... I actually just tried flashing stock with Odin 1.85 and it flashed sucessfully but the rom still wouldnt boot... I tried factory reset and clear cache again but it just plays the at&t logo twice then the screen goes black for a couple seconds and replays the at&t logo. I managed to flash back to 4.0.3 using cwm. I want to sell the phone so I was just trying to install the lastest official rom first. I used kies to update at first but it wasnt recognizing the phone so i did a manual firmware upgrade through kies... Thats when i first got the bootloop on at&t logo. So i tried flashing with odin 3.07 and then 1.85 and still no go. I guess ill just leave it on 4.0.3 and it should get the update later.
Edit: oh I was able to change the UART from modem to PDA and use Odin to flash but that didn't work... When I flashed back to 4.0.3 it had changed back to modem so I don't know if the the flash is changing it back.
Screw Odin. Drop the drivers and use heimdall

Hi
A friends S2 suddenly stopped working. someone tried to flash something (i dont know what he did exactly)
....
when i got it, i just could enter downloadmode. also: when pluging in a usb cable it says, that a problem while flashing was encountered, and i should enter recoverymode in kies and try again.
What i tried:
- installed kies and tried a fresh stock flash. => failed. it stuck at 2% and failed after....HOURS...when phone ran out of batt
- tried with Odin (v3.07, 1.85 or 83? or both...dunno): tried with different roms, one-package, 3-part-package, with pit, without pit (repartition) => everything failed.
- also cant access via QtADB (tried it just for fun-.-)
is there something left i can try? its a I9100 (NO G version) and flawlessly enters downloadmode....im running out of ideas, but i think this poor phone is done...
...still...any ideas?
wishing you a nice day

just btw: i never had a S2....i have my GT-S5830 aka. Cooper aka Galaxy Ace. so if there are things i should be aware of at this device...pls tell me^^

My thread in my signature? And you tried everything? And then tried everything all over again, on a new PC? I'm sorry but I highly doubt it. There is no easy fix, or magic trick to make it work. It requires perseverance.
Have you tried to flash siyah kernel then boot to recovery cwm? Then install a custom rom?
