Using non T-Mobile phone - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Able to buy a phone unlock on GSM and am asking if it will work on T-Mobile. The phone is a 3g 5" running Android 4.0 Thanks for any help

Should be able to go to Tmobile and get a sim card. As long as it is unlocked you should be good to go.

Already have a sin card just worried about getting data on new phone.

Should be fine. What phone is it? You may be limited to Edge speeds. It all depends on the frequencies that the phone will pick up.

Should be able to make calls and texts and use some data. Can't promise you full 3g, as I just don't know. You'll be able to get at least Edge speeds.

I'm mobile now but I think that model # is a Photon or Atrix or MyTouch maybe. Go to gsmarena.com and see if its radios support the same bands as TMo or Att. That will determine what kind of mobile signal you'll get.
Has nothing to do with sim, but everything to do with radios. For example, that is why you can use one model of Nexus S or Nexus One on TMo and get 3g but if you pop an Att sim in there you'll only get 2g.

Dhgate is the web site I found phones . Have investigate a little more

The phone is a Dapeng A75. Its a Chinese gsm phone similar to the galaxy note. Everything I've seen shows it uses the 2100 band for high-speed data. I read that T-Mobile used to use this band for data but has since moved to 1900 band for high speed.

I thank you very much for the price that is good to know.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app

In further reading it seems T-Mobile is rolling out a lot of new spectrum so in the future it might be possible with that device. With the company rolling out lte and support for iphones they are re-allocating services/bands. If you are getting a good deal, I would definitely get it. It could work with straight talk or simple mobile.

Thants what I want to do is move to the 49. 99 plan ,tired of paying 200.00 a month.

So if I us a phone that has the2100 signal I should be good for data?

800 MHz spectrum lte

Just read an article that stated sprint will use that spectrum to deploy lte on. Will this help our evo 3d out or still a lack of radio
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
this will help future LTE phones tremendously, but unfortunately this wont be of any use to our Evo 3d
So basically we got an 800 MHz radio that won't do anything

"our" 800 mhz radio is CDMA specific, not LTE.

OK wasn't sure if it was just radio based or needed something else but good to know about the better voice indoors

Sprint isn't supposed to be deploying anything on the 800 mhz band yet anyway. That's phase 2 of network vision. They have to support the nextel network a little longer.

Isn't 1x advanced going on that band along with LTE? If so we should be able to use that for faster data too

[Q]turn off LTE newts one xxx 6.0.2

Is there a way to turn off just 4g LTE on newts one xxx? I live in mostly 3g area and don't want the battery drain from the phone searching for LTE signal. I know how to use the menu and change from global to gsm to cdma/lte, but I can't find the option to turn off LTE only of there is one.

Yeah I have that, it just takes me to the wireless network menu. Newts is a sense 4.1 Rom so I guess its different than the sense 4.0 Roms that used to work on the other roms, but it seems the menu options have changed.

no problem. I am using the same rom. It is super smooth now that I removed the ottrbox defender from my rezound. It was cauing my screen to go black when I tried to get things open sometime. I have the otterbox commuter coming.
I finally upgraded from the rls 3.2.1. Ive been on it two days now and I love it. It's super smooth, noticed no lag yet running funky's 1.5 kernel because I like the fast charge since I'm only near a car charger most of the day. But battery life is really good, better than 3.2.1. The only problem I had was the 4g, but ya'll showed me the solution. Newt has arguably the best sense roms out here.

D803 KitKat Baseband is Broken in Stock ROMs, 4G DOES NOT EQUAL LTE

Hi all,
This is a thread for d803 owners to discuss how we're going to get LTE supported in KitKat.
Right now, if you flash the popular KK_Baseband floating around, you'll get "4G" after either deleting lteconfigs.apk, or tweaking your build.prop (depending on your ROM). So don't expect "4G" right off the bat, however, even after doing all necessary tweaks, you'll likely find what I found:
"4G" is not 4G, it's HSPA+ in desguise. You can tell by running speed tests (and also noting that the Network always reverts to GSM/WCDMA), they are all within HSPA+ speeds. Reverting back to JB, and running the same speed tests in the same areas results in MUCH faster speeds as it's true LTE. Meaning: 4G does not equal LTE.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "this guys a newb and didn't do the tweaks needed". No, that's not the case, I did all the tweaks, I tried this on CloudyFlex, CloudyStock and even the Rogers KK ROM floating around, all were stuck on GSM/WCDMA with "4G", which is really HSPA+.
So this being said, there appears to be no way to run a custom stock ROM, with LTE, I hope I'm wrong.
Cheers
Make sure you hve the right lte apn created and selected in apn settings , next forget about the icon , most roms are gonna say 4g , but check in networks settings if it says lte if it does your getting lte

4g is LTE in configs that use US ROM base because they use that icon for the ROM instead of LTE.. Hspa has the H icon but if you check the network status screen it will show hspap... I have LTE working perfectly on my bell d803 with cloudypro2

You know 4g means lte for international Rom, only north America use 4g as hspa. Whenever you flash a custom Rom, they are mostly base on international Rom. So the 4g is actually mean lte. You can also check the mobile network type in setting as what deadgiveaway show.

Yep, if you dont have any LTE signal phone just say "no services" etc. (i just tried)
Small problem with this. Unless having volte, you will lose telephony. And even with volte, the providers, at least in States are in process of allowing their networks to talk to each other. So basically if you enable this setting, expect to talk only to peeps on your own network, with people that own volte capable phone. All others excluded.

Sometimes when you have a weak LTE signal and the phone ping pong between LTE/WCDMA.
You may want to keep the phone on LTE despite of weak signal. That way you have better data speed but battery juice will become exhausted quicker.

it works perfectly but one thing is missing...if you get a call then it's lost you can't answer....or you can't make calls yourself....should be able to switch to normal signal once you make or get a call
A good thing would be having that as a widget.
