A question regarding frequencies - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. i was on GSMArena and came across this
I see it says HSDPA 1700 / 2100 / 1900 - for Telus but does that mean this phone has those frequencies? Cause i thought this was for the telus people?

Anyone? im a bit confused..

That is the supported frequencies and carriers around the world uses that.

So the i9100 supports the 1700 band? So if I unlocked it I could get 3g service from T-Mobile here in America?

Well, yes and no, but really no for what you're asking.
The i9100 does NOT support 1700mhz for UMTS, but does for voice. So as a result, it does NOT get 3g on T-mobile, since T-mobile in the US uses AWS for high speed packet data, which requires BOTH 1700 and 2100 for 3g/"4g".
I wouldn't trust that GSM Arena spec page.

T-Mobile will only give EDGE, at&t will give you 3g if you unlock it

T-Mobile 3G?

Hi guys, I am involved in a deal regarding an international GSII, and have been reading conflicting reports on this.. GSM arena says it supports the 1700 and 2100 bands but I have read other things that say it only receives EDGE?
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Forgot it is 1700 (should be), that is not supported on the i9100. It can connect to tmobile due toe the 850, which is edge speed.
GSMarena says the i9100 supports 1700 only for telus (another variation of i9100 probably)
Yes, T-Mobile needs the 1700 and 2100 bands but GSM arena says it does indeed have both so I'm a bit confused.

From GSMarena:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
The one below that is probably another variation of the i9100 for telus.
Well ****. Guess I gotta pick up a hotspot as well.

[Q] Use Xperia S lt26i in USA T-mobile

May I know the Xperia S lt26i be used in USA T-mobile with 3G / 3.5G? I wanna take mine to Hawaii...
2g only, Xperia S doesn't have the AWS band for tmobile
Thanks, dear. I will dig my Nexus S to use 3G then. Or..... use 2G only in my lovely Xperia S....

Should work with 3g T Mobile.
I am currently using it with AT&T 3G........and it works perfectly.
Just had to set the APN settings manually.

T-Mobile USA uses AWS (1700/2100) Bands, the LT26i being sold everywhere so far (except somewhere in Japan for Docomo network) has 850/900/1900/2100 bands so it's impossible it will work on T-Mobile 3G. I read there were some small areas where T-Mobile was working with AT&T antennas for some iPhone users (some kind of roaming after the failed acquisition?, nothing confirmed) so that could be your only chance on getting 3G T-Mobile connection with this phone.
so what u try to say is that this xps version can work on at&t 3g network?
YES IT CAN, I got mine and yes you have to enter the APN manually. Mine went straight to hspa doesnt show ATT logo either, just eh H

No it won't. It doesn't support 1700. Unlike most carriers (who operate on an either OR basis if they use multiple frequencies) T-Mobile US uses both 1700 and 2100 (one for uplink and one for downlink) for their 3G service. If it doesn't support both frequencies you will not get 3G service (as you will be missing either the uplink or the downlink). This device does not support 1700.
DOESN'T WORK ON TMO 3G. YOU WOULD ONLE PICK EDGE. AND IT DOES WORK ON AT&T I KNOW SO CAUSE I'M USING IT AND PICK UP H

still using tzone $5.99 grandfather plan for 3G speed... the fastest i get is about 5Mbps download
It should work if you flash LT26a firmware (USA frequency baseband).
Im not aware of any lt26a. The only north american Xperia S is the Xperia Ion which is not available yet.

You're also assuming that the *hardware* in that device (which doesn't even exist yet) supports 1700/2100 (which neither the LT26i or LT26a ever listed 1700 as a supported frequency).

Which is what this thread is about, a network that requires 1700 mhz for 3g service, and why it's unlikely to work by flashing a new baseband.

HPSA+ won't be supported for T-Mobile USA?

I'm Galaxy Nexus owner. I have T-mobile and it works with HSPA+ without any problem. It is really fast.
In a blog I read that International version of SGSIII doesn't not support T-Mobile HSPA+ & 3G.
I wanted to be sure before ordering the phone.
Do you have any information about this?

So, the trade-off for early access to the much-anticipated phone is less functionality. The international model’s 3G HSPA+ should have no problems with the AT&T network – though won’t step up to LTE – but won’t work on T-Mobile USA’s 3G as it lacks support for the 1700 band.

Are you sure that's what you read?
Another way of reading it, is that T-mobile doesn't support the 1700 band, required for LTE. But what do I know? I only know that the modem firmware certainly supports the 1700 band, but whether or not this is implemented in hardware is a different story, but it would have been stupid not to have done it. The only way to tell, is if someone can start posting some internal pictures of the PCB so we can see what radio chip sets are used within.
You will not get HSPA or even 3G speeds with the International S3 on T-Mobile. HSPA is T-Mo's 3G network and it requires 1700/2100 band, which the S3 does not have.
At best, you will get 2G (or EDGE) speeds, and those are not very fast at all. Streaming anything would be pretty painful.

Yep, that's what I said. Specifically, it's the 1700 (download) band that TMo's HSPA network is using that the S3's radio doesn't have.

However, what about AT&T? Will I get 3G (HSPA+) on their network? As you probably know, there are SIM cards for both T-Mo and AT&T available to work with the international version of the S3.
What band does AT&T use for 3G/HSPA+ , and can the unlocked S3 use it?

Yes, it will work fine. ATT HSPA+ is using 850/1900 and is completely compatible. You will get HSPA+ speeds with the Int. S3.

Galaxy Nexus is penta-band (it supports a bunch, including 1700), and hopefully the next nexii will be as well.
To check for compatibility in future, you just need to compare the phone's frequencies with those listed for the provider (can probably find them on wikipedia even). In this particular case, you'll have to wait for the t-mobile s3 if you want hspa+.
It is worth pointing out (and I'm surprised that no one has done so yet) that T-Mobile USA is working to have hspa+ working with the 1900 band by the fourth quarter. So if the international S3 doesn't initially get hspa+ on tmo, it will by the end of the year, possibly even by the end of summer.

I know they are doing this, but I doubt it will be done anytime soon especially since they want LTE out next year. So far this has only happened in small sections of Colorado and California. I hope they will finish soon but it just doesn't seem likely.

Agreed, you shouldn't make phone decisions on the basis of something that might happen eventually; who knows when they'll even get to your geographical location.
The baseband chip set is the same in Galaxy Nexus and i9300, so I see no other reason for not providing T-mobile compatibility apart from either not having had time to build the baseband firmware to conform to T-mobile networks or simply that T-mobile is doing something "wrong"! (Yeah, they tend to complicate things by reinventing the wheel, and Samsung are probably getting tired of having to provide them with separate models and modifications all the damn time, just because of it.)

You're wrong.the reason they're doing this is because of Lte. They want to use the 1700 band for lte and the 1900 for hspa since they don't have many people using the 1900 bands for gsm. So it'll happen really soon.

I guess that depends on your definition of "really soon," but last I heard, TMo wasn't beginning the LTE transition until "early 2013".

Clearing out 1700 for LTE doesn't mean 1900 will be refarmed at the same time. They have been "refarming" for quite a while and still only have small areas to show for it.

It has nothing to do with T-Mobile. If pentaband phones can exist it isn't that big of a deal to include the band. It is a European phone and they don't use the 1700mhz/2100mhz combo band that T-Mobile uses.
T-Mobile also isn't the only carrier in North America to do this, so it's not like they're the only one.
galaxy s3 has HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 , no 1700. so it doesn't work with t-mobile 3g right now.

Amaze 4g bands

Hi
i want to buy an Tmob AMAZE 4G but i'v noticed that there are 2 types of AMAZE'S with different bands :
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_amaze_4g-4097.php
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 1700 / 2100
or
HSDPA 1700 / 1900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
in Israel im using the HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 bands how i'll know that the device is match the bands?
regards
just look at the place you are buying from they should mention it.. ebay seller should mention it and also stores
and if you are in cellcom you only need the 2100 band.
orange and cellcom use 3g 2100 band and pelephone use 850 band
im buying 2nd hand/...
When I was in Palestine, I used my phones and they all worked on Orange. I have my Amaze box in my hand. The T-Mobile Amaze has the 850/900/1800/1900/2100 frequencies. So it will work.

Well it will certainly work to make calls, but the main issue is whether or not it will work on the 850 MHz band to use 3G and 4G. That's what I need clarified.

Gt-I9300 international on U.S. T-mobile

Just curious, I have the international and I am on T-mobile in the U.S.
Will the I international ever be able to attain 4G Speeds on T-mobiles network? For instance once quad cores become the norm in phones (like they are on the verge of doing).
Or would I be better off selling and getting a T-mobile g3?
Thanks in advance.

Ok. 3g would be great. For the most part that is what is in most areas anyway. I just wasn't sure if it was our phone that didn't have the right radios or if it was T-mobile/other carriers that didn't have the right modems for our exynos.
