RUU problem Please Help. - HTC Amaze 4G

Got an Amaze to check out from a friend. Only boots directly into the bootloader, started a thread in the wrong area and was told it was an RUU problem. Now my issue is, how do I figure out which RUU it would be to replace? It would of been on t-mobiles network, but other then that I dont know. Do I have to go through them one by one until I get one that works?

There is a thread in dev section. It's dedicated to all ota and ruu. They are labeled by carrier. Find the one you need
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app

So just try them until I find them? I am already on that thread, and Im attempting my second one now.

I had to look through stone of the early posts to get the right one. It's not all that hard bro

Ok I just wasnt sure if there was a way to find out what the proper one should be. There is like 6 of them so it should be too bad. Unless its the one that is on the server that they are updating and that I cannot download.

5 down. The only one left is the one I cant get.

Seems like that server is going to be down for a while.

Ok apparently I am doing something wrong. I put the RUU on my SD, the phone boots into the bootloader and I sellect bootloader. After a second it goes to SD checking ... And finds the PH85img.zip and loads it. Then it checks and goes back to the bootloader, then I restart and it goes straight back into the bootloader.
Doing a search it looks like the phone is supposed to ask if I want to update and its not.

Are you putting it on the external sdcard or internal sdcard. And it also should be named PH85IMG.zip

I am putting the file on the SD card and putting it in the SD slot in the back by the SIM, so I assume thats the external SD. And yes I did properly rename it.

Is your bootloader relocked?

Yes,it says relocked at the top.

Okay, this time, try inputting the following text in the filename:
PH85IMG
without the ".zip" part and put it on the SDCard, take out your battery, put it back in and then hold volume down and hit power
It should now correctly detect the file.

Also what version is your HBoot?

HBoot says 1.90.0008. The file is properly named. My computer is set to show file extensions so its only .zip once.

When that finishes it goes to this screen
Then after that it goes back to the hboot screen.

finally someone that has [part of] my issue
those screen shots are Exactly what I experinec when i try to install the videotron OTA on a stock Videotron gb amaze. I renmaed correctly, ran hboot did check what was going on and then it comes back to the hboot man screen. When i reboot though, i am back to my regular gb and everything works like before.
so if you do not mind, I'll follow what's on here because i feel it is when I need to be...

You are trying to use the OTA's instead of the RUU's. The OTA's have different file structures, so that is why it isn't finding the images it needs.. if I remember correctly, there is a different method for using the OTAs. Ruu's work better imho.
All of your problems can be solved by hitting the bible in my signature, then finding the part of upgrading firmware.
The original RUU's were posted by football, these are HIS files.. download http://www.filefactory.com/file/5p9....17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_259626_signed.zip , rename as you were instructed, put on external SD, and you will have no more issues.
his other files are here: http://www.filefactory.com/f/40bba0821a54f264/

I downloaded the RUU from this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617644 They are listed as RUU/OTA, so its possible thats the problem. I am downloading the one you linked and I will try it as soon as its done.

I assumed you are on TMO since you're in florida, if you are using a different carrier, you have to choose the appropriate one from the link you posted..
If your friend bought a phone that is on a different carrier, you have to flash the RUU for that carrier, or you have to s-off than supercid I believe.. but as long as you know it is a tmobile carrier than you're good to go.
Technically the one called "PH85IMG_RUBY_ICS_35_S_TMOUS_2.14.531.3_Radio_1.14. 550L.17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_259626_signed.zip" on the link you posted should have worked.. not sure if you tried that one specifically yet.

[Q] Stuck in bootloader. Need Help

Update 2: My phone is now S-Off and running ICS. It's awesome! Thanks everybody.
Update 1: So I unlocked the bootloader using the all-in-one tool and suddenly the phone boots up fine.
My phone was S-On, bootloader unlocked and running Bulletproof 2.5 and 4EXT recovery.
I used the All-in-One tool to flash stock recovery and relocked the bootloader. Afterward my phone is stuck in the fastboot/hboot screen no matter what I try. I tried flashing the Wind Mobile RUU (GB) after renaming it to PH85IMG.zip yet that doesn't solve the problem. Any advice?
This is what appears in the screen:

No. Kernel didoesn't have anything to do with this. Which ROM are you using?

I was coming from Xborder's Bulletproof 2.5.0. The phone goes straight to Fastboot (picture 1). I wasn't flashing the ICS RUU, just the GB RUU.
I'm gonna go ahead and bet you have this on the INTERNAL sd card(/sdcard) not on the external sdcard(/sdcard/extsd)
It looks on the microsd card you have in the phone, not the built in storage.. move the file to extsd and boot into bootloader and it will work.

It is a zip file, open it with a program like 7zip and see what is inside of it, it should have files like radio.img, rcdata.img, boot_signed.img, system.img, etc.
If for some reason it doesn't upzip with an unzip program(i verified it works with 7zip), or those files aren't there, that may be your issue(redownload the file again, rename, move to extsd, try again).
Double check that the file is both named right (ph85img.zip I believe, and follow the instructions exactly, it IS case sensitive) and on the external card - it saying there is no image means either the file is named wrong, or in the wrong place, or the files it is looking for inside the zip aren't there.. either you got a bad download or just some step is a little off.
AND MAKE SURE U DOWNLOADED THE RUU FROM A CREDIBLE SOURCE.

Whether or not I plug the USB and follow the HTC's Instruction, I can never get to unlock the bootloader and I so really need to root my phone
It's really simple if you follow HTCs instructions.
Make sure when u copy unlock token, you are copying only necessary characters.

Even If I follow that, when I reach the CMD prompt part, my it will show the " Waiting for device" dialog, and my phone's USB debugging is active and my phone is on, the hasoon2000's pattern of doing this always restart my phone and boot into the HBOOT section which is locked and I can never get to unlock it.

Well that is true if you upgraded the radios and hboot and such to ics. There is undoubtedly a rooted stock or just plain ics stock you can flash. If you are still on GB firmware but an ICS rom you can flash a GB rom no problem.

I can get to the hboot screen, but I can't get to the recovery screen (nothing happens when I select recovery). I do have a GB RUU somewhere that is an exe file, I guess the easiest thing to do is run that at the hboot screen??

You should be able to just flash the kernel like the guy above said if the s off process didn't work. That's the first thing I would try.
Was the newer RUU the stock Verizon non rooted RUU, and not a pre rooted stock type rom only? The rom only would explain why you're getting the jpbear screen on your phone still.
Yea flashing the right kernel worked, but this same phone has now gotten stuck at same screen 3 straight times.
I guess this particular phone just doesn't want to be s-off........
Try rerunning the exe several times. Every phone I've s-offed, I've had to rerun controlbear literally 4-5 times to get it to finally work.

Okay, I had this problem yesterday after I relocked the Amaze using Hasoon2000's HTC Amaze 4G All-in-one kit. Earlier in the day, I had used HTCDev to unlock the bootloader and I still had the unlock file in my e-mail. So I followed these steps to get it unlocked again.
Step 1: Connect your HTC Amaze while it is in Fastboot
Step 2: Go back to the e-mail from HTC Dev and download the "Unlock_code.bin" file and place it in the data folder "Amaze_All-In-One_Kit_XDA_V3.0\Data". Download here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493905 (download "Download Hasoon2000's Amaze All-In-One Toolkit v3.0 XDA (Lite Version)" from the site) - and then extract itr
Step 3: Launch the Amaze3.0.exe application
Step 4: Select "5. Unlock bootloader" and then click Go
Step 5: Then follow the instructions on the device.
You should be all set. It worked for me.

If your bootloader is locked (or relocked) download the latest PH85IMG.zip file on yer SD, then power off (pull the battery) and and hold volume down and power until you get the hboot screen, then press vol+ (i think) to flash the image, sit back and wait, then hit power when prompted and restart to ICS. Now all you have to is unlock again and get the ICS version of the S-OFF files and try again, and again, and again until you get it.

Need help with root of old firmware 1.12.605.9

I picked up a bolt from a friend and it is apparently still on 1.12.605.9 firmware, never been rooted and still has s-on. How do I root this damn thing because I have tried every site, forum, and I cannot find a download link that works to do the old root method. I rooted my personal bolt and s-off with no problem. But this one is not connected at the moment either so I can't get it to do any ota's to get it up to date. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Root Old Software for HTC Thunderbolt
I had the instructions up before I realized the software version being 1.12.605.9.
I'm slow sometimes. =l
I tried doing a search for you, but I really couldn't find anything either.
Hopefully it will push an OTA here shortly and upgrade to 2.11.605.9 or 2.11.605.19 so you can use the revolutionary method.
are you sure the phone is not rooted and running a custom rom based on 1.12.605.9? unless its been turned off and sitting ona shelf it should have OTAed several times from that,as 1.12.605.9 was the first minor update the TB got, from its shipping firmware of 1.12.605.6.
-check your app drawer for the superuser icon
-check hboot for 1.04.2000 eng s-off hboot
if you truly are not allready rooted,im not sure what to think- theres no way a stock phone would have survived that long with no updates. nonetheless, all you need to do is run an RUU for a newer build number. literally anything between what you nave and 2.11.605.5 should get you 1.04 or 1.05 hboot. you dont wantto go newer,as youll then have to downgrade back to 605.5,or youll have to run fre3vo first to temp root.,then run revolutionary.

and here:

edit:
if you want to do the old school root, theres a link to the old root method post here:
http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/418539-thunderbolt-root-unroot-thread.html
it should contain a link to jcases original instructions, and i could upload the exploits file is the links are broken.
but,it would prolly be alot easier to just run a newer RUU and then run revolutionary

are you sure the phone is not rooted and running a custom rom based on 1.12.605.9? unless its been turned off and sitting ona shelf it should have OTAed several times from that,as 1.12.605.9 was the first minor update the TB got, from its shipping firmware of 1.12.605.6.

I took a picture of the hboot screen, maybe this explain a little more. The phone has a cracked screen so it wasnt used since they first got it not long after release, I guess. I double checked and it is not rooted. I am downloading the 605.5 RUU now and will try that and see what happens. I will report back with results. Thank you for you response.

I tried to use revolutionary but only get "waiting for device". I have the drivers installed because I rooted and got s-off on my other bolt. I am just trying to get this one up to date and fix the screen so I can sell it.

I had that problem to when I tried the revolutionary tool. I had to manually input the commands for it to work. The other thing is when the prompt appears asking to launch something for HTC. Don't hit yes or no. Just leave it there.

did you forget to enable usb debugging? do you still have the sdk instaLLEd? if so open a cmd window,cd to your adb directory, and then enter "adb devices" if your drivers are working and the phone is in charge only mode, usb debugging on,youll get your serial number back.
you may need to find the device in device manager, and manually update drivers. you can also try rebooting the pc,and different usb cables and ports. uninstall htc sync, pda net,or anything else that can communicate with your phone.
if you need to reinstall them: revoutionary hboot drivers
as the guys said, you dont need to run the RUU. revolutionary will work fine on what you have,i was under the impression your firmware was hboot 1.03
I got it all worked out. Reinstalled the drivers, phone connected and have revolutionary s-off, root and latest firmware. I appreciate everyone's help, we have some awesome ppl in the thunderbolt community. I am definitely learning a lot lately. Thank you again.

If you are done trying the wire trick, then pull out the all in one kit 3.2 and look at the thread and flash the stock ics from football and following their directions and thank football and Hansoon for the info and links.
Wrong forum. This goes in either General or Q&A.

Glad it worked for you lol. And same here, I had to do it 20-30 times but finally got it right
When I tried, I spent over an hour and a half trying to get it to work. I ran my battery down, and got to a point where I ran out of juice to keep going. I, too, thought I bricked it.
However, as long as you've not been successful, your bootloader should still be intact. And as long as you have that, you can recover from having completely blank partitions.
The next morning, after a full charge, I simply restored stock recovery using Hassoon's All-in-one Toolkit, and ran the stock RUU installer. Finito. Flashed 4EXT and began enjoying custom ROMs. There is no need to S-OFF if you're only flashing Custom ROMs.
I haven't unlocked the Carrier ID (CID), but I can flash any single ROM I want (T-Mo, Telus, etc). I have carrier unlocked the phone, however that was done through an online unlocking service. The whole reason I wanted to S-OFF was because the Amaze Bible indicated you could carrier unlock the phone yourself, without relying on another service.
