Okay, so here i am using my touchpad on my personal wifi at home, and the school's wifi when i'm, you guessed it, at school. They both have passwords and they were working fine. Yesterday, i tried to log into my home network because for some reason it did not connect. I go to the wifi settings and it shows full wifi bars and i hit connect, it prompts me for my password (weird since it was saved), the bars drop to the single one at the bottom, and it gave me an authentication error. I rebooted and tried it again, and again, to the same result. I went to school this morning and the same thing happened. I had full bars, it drops to one and gives me an authentication error. I can connect to open networks just fine and i connect my phone and laptop to both wifi connections and they work fine.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance
And i forgot to mention that my usb connection is messed up as well. I can connect it and it will give me the usb debugging message, but it won't let me tether the usb storage even though i have all of the updated drivers...
Try booting in WebOS and check to see if its a hardware issue. If not, my suggestion is to flash a newer/fresh ROM in clockwork.

also just lost wifi
Sorry guys for hijacking the thread but I hate to start a new one for something similar...
But the difference is, I all of a sudden am unable to cut my wifi on at all... I'm running AOKP M6 on my TP and yesterday it just decided to black out the wifi toggle, it's not even grey, it's black, I can barely make out where it says WIFI...
Now I have a nandroid I made just the night before this started happening and all is well when I flash it, but after about two or 3 hours of use, I all of a sudden lose the wifi and can't get it back unless I factory reset or nandroid back...
I haven't installed any new apps or updated any apps or made any changes, absolutely nothing, it just loses the signal
OK, BUT if I boot into webOS the wifi is fine so I'm sure it's not a hardware issue...
Here's the kicker... since I started having this issue, each time I boot into webOS and then back to Android, the problem instantly arises...
So, any help is appreciated
Whenever my wifi is blacked out like that it always seems to have something to do with my boot image. If you flash the AOKP USB wake lock I made it'll replace your boot image with a new one. The problem might go away... if not you could just nandroid back.
Always works for me though... just saying.

After many hours I figured that out... I made a nandroid before i started filling with my boot folder... I deleted the CyanogenMod stuff and edited the default to boot AOKP so that nothing that said CyanogenMod came up during boot and didn't show up in moboot options... so when i restored nandroid all that was still there and wifi working again.
Will try your file and report back... THANKS (yeah I hit the THANKS button too!

Since installing MIUI 1.6.24.1 I do not have internet/data access on my phone.
I can make/receive phone calls and txts, however I cannot connect to Google or Android Market.
I have tried EA28, EC01, and EC09 modems with multiple battery pulls (both plugged in and not) between each with no effect.
When trying to input my account info for Market I get "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server." Normally (on UKB 2.1) I have full service at my desk. My "3G" icon is constantly flickering on and off and under About Phone 3G Service only stays connected for a second then switches back to "Connecting".
Am I missing something?
Jp
Update: Solution found - See Post #25
Dial *228. The keypad won't pop up so hold menu and press 1 on the keyboard to reprogram your phone. I had that happen this morning. I didn't realize I didn't have internet since I was using wifi all night after I flashed it. The voice prompt will tell you it succeeded but the UI will say it failed. You'll lose service. Just reboot. Worst case scenario, if you still don't have any service at all shut down then pull the battery. Boot back up and you should be good.
Still no Internet.
My 3G connection only ever stays active for 8 sec.
I am currently on EC09 Radio which I really havent used much. However, I have found that for me EA28 was usually the most reliable Radio. Is it possible that EC09 just doesn't work well for me here?
Jp
That's definitely not the same issue I was having. My 3G icon stayed on the screen but all my apps simply told me I had no internet. The 3G icon never went away on me. Sorry I can't help you further. Maybe somebody else has some insight. Try reinstalling and possibly a new radio like you said.
You should try a new radio, I'm currently on Ed04 and I have had no problems with Internet.

That sounds more like the issue Crashspeeder described, you may only need to reactivate your phone. My data appears to be going down every 8 seconds.

ED04 has same issue on both MIUI and CM7, I am beginning to think it has nothing to do with the modem.
Jp
Keep in mind that CM7 MTD and MIUI MTD are essentially the same rom since MIUI MTD is based on CM7 MTD so I'm not sure your assessment is entirely correct. It may be that ED04 isn't compatible with these two roms. I'm on EB01 (yea, dinosaur) and it's working fine.
I did reactivate my phone but using *22804 for cricket in my area and one of the times it said failed I lost data pulled battery rebooted got it and still nothing ....and another it said success and still a no go
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Well I can cross off EC01, EA28, EC09, ED04, and now EB01 as things I've tried. None of them worked. That is my reasoning as to why I think it is unrelated to the radio.
Well, I guess I'll keep playing with it for a bit and try all the other radios I can get ahold of.
Jp
Hah. I would've stopped at 3. I think you've proven it's not the modem. I assume you tried reinstalling and still nothing. Not sure what could be going on

Also I flashed JT's CM7 for a quick test and no internet on that either, wierd......

Yeah after flashing Miui and losing data I Odined back to stock and still got the same ..no data ... I'm on Cricket which is like Metro

I've been screwing with this all day. I have both the 3q flicker and sometimes it stays on but the arrows don't flash. either way no data. Flashed back to stock and data works. Also works on comrom with the last 3 radios (including the new ec09 leak).
otherwise the install went well for everything (both muiu and cyanogen). MUIU was a pain because i couldn't find terminal emulator but then had an idiot moment when i found it in the power menu but it didn't work, 3 of the 4 reboots did the same thing. hot boot was the only one that did anything different.
I've used the stock kernel and the OTB kernel. Same story both times. I'm not sure what other info would be relevant but I'm happy to help diagnose this problem. Getting a new fascinate because I was one of those who the ESN swap didn't fix my other data problems (cut out and slow). Maybe that's a lead? Anyway, i'll have a backup phone for a couple days if I want to mess with it without worry.
thanks for all the help and work. I like it a lot, it's super quick!
I'll just use it as is for today, but when I wake up tomorrow I'll flash back to Evil or com rom see if my data comes back. If data hasnt comeback when I flash back I'll check my data settings with QPST 2.7 and if need be I'll re-flash the data settings with Miui installed.
I had the same issue after flashing the latest MIUI build. Even after rebooting twice I still had no data connection. Oddly enough after doing a battery pull, then holding the power button down to clear any residual power; it started working again.
Update, I work graveyard so I decided to do it before i go to bed, anyway I flashed back to stock and as slow and pathetic as it is... data is working. I'm flashing evil as I type.......wait for it......."convert data patition , back up operation, blah blah blah Two Minutes" ..........*stares blindly at Samsung logo* OK! Evil is up and running with data which means something about miui and CM7 is breaking our data .
*warning, rant-ish*
I would hate to not be able to go back to Miui, I had my theme made up of of a custom Ore no Imouto icons everywhere *ashamed* with a custom font and a sweet HTC bootloading screen with the Fringe intro song Maybe data isn't too big of a deal besides who needs pandora, tapatalk, email, OMG! my precious Fantasy sport teams...... wait a sec, the NFL is still on lock out. Fellas we need to find a fix for this, preferably before the next NFL season.....My Solid Snakes HAVE to be back to back champs
So, a quick update...
First off, my Nandroid backup of UKB 2.1 is apparently corrupted or something because after flashing/repartitioning with EB01, I couldn't do a restore. So basically, I'm stuck with either MIUI with no data or rebuilding UKB 2.1 from scratch which undoubtedly will be a real pain.
Second, my data has now worked once. I was able to open Google today after my phone had been off for several hours. When I booted my phone up it was first stuck in Airplane Mode so I powered down and pulled the battery. When I booted back up, my data worked, I was able to load Google in the browser and when I searched for "test" it failed. It got part way into loading my search results when it crashed out.
So, it looks like I'm going to just stick with MIUI for the time being and just do without the data when I'm off WIFI.
The only thing unusual about my setup is that I am using the extended battery. It is the standard VZW 2200 mAh not any of the 3rd Party ones but I guess that could be making a difference.
If any developers want to see any logs or anything just let me know what commands I should run and I'll post the results.
Jp
With all cyanogen mod you sometime lose data after you poweroff your phone. Try rebooting or battery pull. If that doesnt work, you probly gonna need a new phone. I dont think its modem or rom related. The phone data anttena is done.

Hi guys,
First of all, I am quite new with Rooting, and putting roms on my phone. But I really like it, so I'm doing a lot of research to it atm
Two days ago, I decided to put CM7.1 on my Desire HD, together with the LorDModUE V8.1 kernel. Everything works just perfect, I really like it.
However, I do have one pretty big problem, and that has to do with wifi.
When I am upstairs, where my router is, my wifi works fine. But when I go downstairs, my wifi becomes ''unstable''. It still has connection with my router, but with a lower signal. Well, that isn't a problem really, but the problem is, is that my wifi signal becomes white after a while.
This still doesn't have to be a big problem, but for me it is, because my internet isn't working anymore, when I am having a white wifi signal! When I try to load a website on my phone, it just won't load. it is like it freezes, because it does not say I have no wifi signal.
So, I am still connected to my wifi, but it doesn't load any websites, or any other programs that require internet acces.
Then, when I reboot, it works fine again! but only for some time, it is really random.
This is only when I am downstairs. as I said, upstairs, at my router, it works perfectly.
What I already tried:
- Set my wifi options to static IP
- Downloaded wifi fixer
- reboot
- airplane mode
I really don't know where to find the solution. I could try to reinstall cm7.1, without that kernel, but I really like that kernel, so I prefer not to reinstall anything. But if that is really necessary, so be it
I would like to hear from you!
Niels
I think your problem is screen off and on, signal become white right?
If so, I think you forgotten to switch "WiFi sleep policy" to never in WiFi setting

Thanks for your quick reply, but that also does not help. I already tried that aswell, but I forgot to mention it.. it is already set to 'never'.. :/
HTC has better WiFi chips than Samsung.
Check with your kernels developers whether it has WiFi "N" router setting included. The "N" (larger WiFi range router support"

Hmm, It doesn´t seem to have that..
I guess I will have to reinstall cyanogen, and install a different/stok cm7 kernel then?
I made a screenshot on how it looks like, now it has a green connection, but the internet load bar sort of ''freezes''
* Oh, can't enter any link before I reached the 8th post >.<*
My sense wildfire has WiFi "N" rounter support in custom kernel

After doing a factory reset on my BC series TFP, I cannot connect to my home WiFi connection. Prior to the update (on the latest .14 firmware) everything worked fine and I was able to connect and maintain a stable "excellent" connection throughout the house. Now, even right next to the router and after a router reboot, I cannot connect. It is stuck on "obtaining IP address" and no progress is made. Anyone else have this issue? Since the full update for .14 isn't available I can't even reflash the firmware. Any ideas? I will do another factory reset and see if that helps, but this worries me .
Would a router reset help?

I had a similar issue where it wouldn't connect to my work router with WEP on, turn WEP off and I could connect, the new update fixed that for me. Just as a test turn the security off on your router and see if it will connect.

No, a router reset didn't help - sadly I tried that first and it was of no use. Thanks for the input, though!
Edit: No dice. I sent in an Asus warranty repair request.

You should really think about using bettery security than WEP. Its very weak and be cracked in mere seconds. WPA2 if your router supports it, if not then even WPA is way better then WEP.

Here ya go.
I've seen something like this right after I did the .13 update and did a reboot.
The wifi would connect then drop constantly.
I tried the router reboot but that didn't fix the problem.
What I ended up doing was in the Network settings remov the wifi network and manually re connecting to it.
Same for me, i cant connect after i did a factory reset
just standing still on ''Obtaining IP address''
plz help me!
Could try to remove your device from the router dhcp list. I bet its having a problem giving out a new ip address to the same mac address.
If you have the option I would recommend dd-wrt.. Google it and unleash your router...

To get Wifi working again I downloaded the full 9.4.2.14 update (US in my case) and extracted the zip. I then renamed the zip contained within the first to "SD201_UPDATE.zip" and copied that file to my MicroSD (the slot on the tablet, not the keyboard dock). After it successfully copied I turned off my Prime and then held Volume Down and Power until some text appeared on the screen. After that I let go of the Vol - and Power and pressed Volume Up. This checks the kernel/ROM image on the MicroSD and then proceeds to reinstall the full OS, kernel, drivers, etc. After my Prime rebooted I was able to connect to WiFi without issue. I hope this works for you. Remember to download the .zip of 9.4.2.14 from Asus that corresponds to your model. If this resolves your issue gimme a thanks . Best of luck.

Yep! did all that...
The short of it is, my Wifi crapped out for reasons beyond my experiences thus far.
The long of it. I flashed epinter's 07/25/2012 Nightly and everything seemed to be working nicely, Wifi especially. Then today, out running errands and dropped my Atrix in my Car Dock and attempted to turn on Bluetooth for the first time since flashing, and the device froze then restarted. Once back up, I tried turning Wifi back on, and the device froze again and restarted. Thinking maybe the radio driver went south, I grabbed epinter's 07/27/2012 build (epinter-cm10-20120727_1846-UNOFFICIAL-olympus.zip), and still no luck. Back into Recovery, Wiping everything and also factory resetting then flashing twice over again, boot up, still no wifi, and if it manages to seemingly fire up, the device hangs and restarts.
Within the last 2 hours (Been at this for about 12 hours now.) I grabbed Jokersax's build (Beta 0.1.0), wiped/reset/flash twice as I have before. Now as I take a breath I noticed that the Wifi Icon came up in the Notification bar, but when I go into Settings and Scan, I see none of the Networks around me. I looked under Advanced and noticed that my MAC Address is 'Unavailable' nor am I showing an IP address, even though Wifi is saying 'On'. Verified on my Router, my Phone is not connected to it.
Odd Side note, installed aLogcat just to see if I could catch any errors, and it is not giving me anything, that is, I am not seeing any logs through the app. Most likely an unrelated issue, but still a tad annoying.
Everything else seems in order, including Mobile Data (Able to access Web Pages, Market/Play Store, receive email, etc.). Just Wifi pretty much 'Lights are on, but no one is Home.'. Any suggestions on next steps?
We discussed this issue over in some other threads and conclusion is that it's a hardware malfunction Ur broadcom chip is burned, many people (including me) had that problem.

We're talking fastboot wipe kind of clean install? Going to give that a go as a last attempt, will post results here.
Glimmer of hope tonight, was discussing the problem with a friend, went to turn on WiFi and it actually scanned and connected for about 2 minutes before crapping out. This tells me there maybe life to the chip still. Now to get fastboot to connect and try a wipe and see what happens.

Any news on this front? I am one of the afflicted as well.
I'm having a similar issue. though my BT works just fine, no delays, no errors, no intermittance.
Wifi, I can scan for networks just fine. i click on mine to connect. it shows connecting, noting that when it says connecting the signal shows 1 bar as compared to the full set of wifi bars when scanning, i am also right next to the AP. is tries connceting for about 20 seconds or so. then goes back to saying "saved" under the SSID, other networks showing "disabled" when this happens. i originally noticed this after flashing epinters cm10. i tried flashing 37p, 36p and 30p radios with no difference.
EDIT: also want to note that i HAVE disabled the "avoid poor connections" option. and have tried setting static IP.
I flashed the same and I am unable to get my wifi to work after clean wipe, radio install or anything else that I have tried. Could software have really burned up a wifi radio????

Mine works occasionally so I don't think the radio is dead. The rom just acts like it's not there most of the time and doesn't give a mac address. Sometimes it works though after a reboot. Would flashing a different radio help? My baseband version says N_01.77.37P
I had an IP and a MAC, but no wifi internet.
Using mobile data, I downloaded Set DNS and then enabled wifi, works fine.
Now it's working but mobile data is going very very slow, it took 5min to download Set DNS.
I have a skyrocket but the "no wifi" issue is probably the same - your not getting DNS
I'm going back to CM9 for now.
+1 wifi matter under CM10
Try rebooting the router.
Experienced same issue (unable to connect, showing full bars, dropping to 1 bar when connecting and never being able to complete a connection) rebooting my router has fixed the issue. I'm not technical but it might have to do with the DNS release for addresses .. in any case unplugging my router for a bit and restarting it fixed the issue for me.
I was playing with the *#*#4636#*#* menu in CMX and changed my band to Australia. I then lost all connectivity but wifi. I figured I'd just nandroid back to my fully functioning CMX - I was wrong. After restoring the nandroid, the phone still won't connect to anything but wifi.
I then saw this post and flashed meanbean to use the Sense dialer.
None of the instructions worked! When I try to ##786# reset all my data, the phone will do its thing and then boot back up into meanbean and ask me sign in to my accounts.
The DEVICE_PROVISIONED=1 doesn't exist in my build.prop as seen in this post so I can't use the simple method. :crying:
Any help is greatly appreciated. I only have wifi while I'm at work, so in 5 hours I'll be screwed.
EDIT: Almost fixed it! I nandroided back to CMX and tinkered with some more advanced settings. I figured I can't hurt anything more than I have. It's now connecting to the network and 3G, but says it needs activated. Finally, progress!

...or move to Australia.
Seriously, I have no clue other than what I just read in the threads you posted. I hope you're able to get it figured out.

Thanks guys, I did get it fixed. Once I got some sort of connection reestablished I needed to activate the phone. I called Sprint customer service from my work phone and they refreshed all my data/connections. That allowed me to connect to the network, but not use it (if that makes any sense). I then downloaded the deodexed stock rooted JB ROM from here. After flashing that and booting into it, it said "hands free activation" and then starting updating the PRL before asking me to set up my accounts.
Hopefully my story helps anyone who gets caught up in this issue.
One more thing, upon reinstalling my cmx nandroid, I checked the build.prop file and it had the DEVICE_PROVISIONED=1
I changed it and that's how I got the phone to reconnect to the network (still no use of the signal though at that moment). That's when I flashed to the stock rooted ROM and everything was fine from there.
