After doing a factory reset on my BC series TFP, I cannot connect to my home WiFi connection. Prior to the update (on the latest .14 firmware) everything worked fine and I was able to connect and maintain a stable "excellent" connection throughout the house. Now, even right next to the router and after a router reboot, I cannot connect. It is stuck on "obtaining IP address" and no progress is made. Anyone else have this issue? Since the full update for .14 isn't available I can't even reflash the firmware. Any ideas? I will do another factory reset and see if that helps, but this worries me .
Would a router reset help?

I had a similar issue where it wouldn't connect to my work router with WEP on, turn WEP off and I could connect, the new update fixed that for me. Just as a test turn the security off on your router and see if it will connect.

Testing right now - this was an idea that I had but wasn't sure of how useful it would be. I'll report back soon.
No, a router reset didn't help - sadly I tried that first and it was of no use. Thanks for the input, though!
Edit: No dice. I sent in an Asus warranty repair request.

There is one other thing to try, look for the thread about wireless tether not working, there is a file you can change see if that does it.

You should really think about using bettery security than WEP. Its very weak and be cracked in mere seconds. WPA2 if your router supports it, if not then even WPA is way better then WEP.

Here ya go.
I've seen something like this right after I did the .13 update and did a reboot.
The wifi would connect then drop constantly.
I tried the router reboot but that didn't fix the problem.
What I ended up doing was in the Network settings remov the wifi network and manually re connecting to it.
Same for me, i cant connect after i did a factory reset
just standing still on ''Obtaining IP address''
plz help me!
Could try to remove your device from the router dhcp list. I bet its having a problem giving out a new ip address to the same mac address.
If you have the option I would recommend dd-wrt.. Google it and unleash your router...

To get Wifi working again I downloaded the full 9.4.2.14 update (US in my case) and extracted the zip. I then renamed the zip contained within the first to "SD201_UPDATE.zip" and copied that file to my MicroSD (the slot on the tablet, not the keyboard dock). After it successfully copied I turned off my Prime and then held Volume Down and Power until some text appeared on the screen. After that I let go of the Vol - and Power and pressed Volume Up. This checks the kernel/ROM image on the MicroSD and then proceeds to reinstall the full OS, kernel, drivers, etc. After my Prime rebooted I was able to connect to WiFi without issue. I hope this works for you. Remember to download the .zip of 9.4.2.14 from Asus that corresponds to your model. If this resolves your issue gimme a thanks . Best of luck.

Try this for giggles:
Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi settings -> Advanced (press menu button to access) -> Wi-Fi sleep policy
Set it to "Never". This will keep Wi-Fi on at all times. I've had disconnects when it was set to anything else. Now it always stays connected without issue.

Howdy, so I did a factory reset last night and since then my Prime cant seem to find my location , in any weather app or maps.....i tried a factory reset a few more times but still no luck....any ideas on what i can try to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!
Assuming you have location services turned on in the settings, remember tablets aren't meant to use gps. If you need gps, go buy a garmin or smartphone, because everyone around here will tell you tablets dont need gps.
I dont care about GPS, never my intention for the tablet.
Location sevices were all checked and that part of it worked perfectly before the factory reset.
Just got to work and it seems to connect ok here. Not sure what happened at home but I will test this evening.
Do you have another android device to test ?
It could be that Google doesn't know about your router's location. They have a database of wifi router locations and maybe they never got yours.

Uncheck the ALL location options, then save. Then check them again, you will get a nice terms and conditions dialogue, accept it. Save.

I get home and it can't find location. Weird thing is it was fine until i did the reset.

I did a factory reset, that is when this particular issue starting happening.
Before that location was not a problem for me, at home or on any other wifi.
I did the factory reset intially because it was acting weird, sluggish and non responsive so I figured I would give that a shot before pursuing anything else ...and now my location service wont work at home. Which is strange because it does work on several other wifi spots that I have tried.
I read somewhere that Google can sometimes lose your wifi/router from its DB, just havent found out if there is a way to maybe force it back..?
The fact that it works everywhere but my home which is where I use it like 95% of the time kinda sucks...Maybe I will ping Asus and see what they have to say about it.
Everything turns on fine. The hot spot starts transmitting fine but none of my device can actually connect to it. tried with the tablet, laptop, ps3 and they wont connect even though the phone is actually transmitting signal because i can see the ssid but it wont connect any help thank you in advanced. stock. only thing I did after the update was hold down the power button and did a forced restart.
Yeah, I'm also using the latest update, and I haven't had any problems. I'm using the connection to write this post now.
I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling the app, rebooting the phone in between. That's really all I can think of, assuming it was working before.
You can probably find the older version of the app somewhere - if you're still having problems, you could try that as a fallback.

Okay, so here i am using my touchpad on my personal wifi at home, and the school's wifi when i'm, you guessed it, at school. They both have passwords and they were working fine. Yesterday, i tried to log into my home network because for some reason it did not connect. I go to the wifi settings and it shows full wifi bars and i hit connect, it prompts me for my password (weird since it was saved), the bars drop to the single one at the bottom, and it gave me an authentication error. I rebooted and tried it again, and again, to the same result. I went to school this morning and the same thing happened. I had full bars, it drops to one and gives me an authentication error. I can connect to open networks just fine and i connect my phone and laptop to both wifi connections and they work fine.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance
And i forgot to mention that my usb connection is messed up as well. I can connect it and it will give me the usb debugging message, but it won't let me tether the usb storage even though i have all of the updated drivers...
Try booting in WebOS and check to see if its a hardware issue. If not, my suggestion is to flash a newer/fresh ROM in clockwork.

also just lost wifi
Sorry guys for hijacking the thread but I hate to start a new one for something similar...
But the difference is, I all of a sudden am unable to cut my wifi on at all... I'm running AOKP M6 on my TP and yesterday it just decided to black out the wifi toggle, it's not even grey, it's black, I can barely make out where it says WIFI...
Now I have a nandroid I made just the night before this started happening and all is well when I flash it, but after about two or 3 hours of use, I all of a sudden lose the wifi and can't get it back unless I factory reset or nandroid back...
I haven't installed any new apps or updated any apps or made any changes, absolutely nothing, it just loses the signal
OK, BUT if I boot into webOS the wifi is fine so I'm sure it's not a hardware issue...
Here's the kicker... since I started having this issue, each time I boot into webOS and then back to Android, the problem instantly arises...
So, any help is appreciated
Whenever my wifi is blacked out like that it always seems to have something to do with my boot image. If you flash the AOKP USB wake lock I made it'll replace your boot image with a new one. The problem might go away... if not you could just nandroid back.
Always works for me though... just saying.

After many hours I figured that out... I made a nandroid before i started filling with my boot folder... I deleted the CyanogenMod stuff and edited the default to boot AOKP so that nothing that said CyanogenMod came up during boot and didn't show up in moboot options... so when i restored nandroid all that was still there and wifi working again.

Hi Everyone!
If this is in the wrong place I apologise,
I have been using the AOSP ROM (http://en.miui.com/thread-502828-1-1.html)
Everything was fine using the March version of the ROM but I installed the 20/5/2017 version and i started (every now and then) getting my WIFI saying connected but no internet... I then cannot use my browser, apps that need WIFI etc until i reboot my phone then works ok again for a while.
They then released an update 21st and also one after that 23rd. I have tried both the updates and i still get the error, I have done a clean install both times and wiped the cashes. I have also tried this .>> http://www.techsiddhi.com/2014/05/how-to-resolve-connected-to-wifi-but-no.html
i have tried to change to static IP on my device but wont allow me to save changes i am out of ideas and really dont know what to do, I dont think its an issue with the ROM but maybe my router, i just dont know...
I appreciate any help you guys could give!
Many thanks
Matthew

Well you can flash this ROM http://bit.ly/2qdTEz0 which is the latest xiaomi.eu stable ROM for Redmi Note 4 MTK and Magisk Manager V12 for root http://bit.ly/2puOFMA .
You can learn more about Xiaomi.eu by visiting https://xiaomi.eu

Which router do you have ?
I had issues with Wi-Fi on a bt home hub (previous to this phone though) which had similar symptoms.
I got around it by tweaking the settings in the hub (disabled band steering, so that 2.4ghz and 5ghz have different ssid's. Also set 2.4 to be"mode 3")
A long shot, that you have the same router, I know.

Thanks very much for the info George I really appreciate the effort you have put into finding the information for me, I was no a fan of the Chinese ROM that came with the phone that's why i looked into installing a custom ROM and apart from the current issue I am very happy with it.
I have downloaded the Global ROM and Magisk films so that if I cannot find a solution soon I can give it a try.... I always get nervous when rooting/flashing new software as I always worry about boot loops etc as i am fairly new to all this.

Thanks very much for getting back to me I really appreciate it! I definitely think were on the right track, my router is a SKY Fibre router but I can't say I understand what you are talking about lol... I have been into the router settings and had a look, one think i have noticed is even tho I have changed my ROM 3 times, starting from scratch each time it is still allocated the same ip address etc.. (192.168.1.6) so it seems to be carrying the problem over each time.
I have tried rebooting the router, phone several times I did try and follow steps to change to a static IP from my modify network on my phone but would not allow me to save the changes..
I did read that I should try and go into developer options and enable "Use legacy DHCP client) I did this after flashing the latest version of the AOSP ROM (23/5/2017) so far its been ok but i'm not sure if it will last. I just don't understand what the problem is??
Thanks again guys for all your help and I hope I can get to the bottom of it!
Matt
Did you upgrade it or do a clean flash? Try a clean flash if you didn't. I am using the latest build of the same ROM, no problems at all.

Yes did a clean install 3 times, it must be bringing the problem with it somehow, i don't understand it?
Each of the 3 time I have done a full wipe and cleared all cashes etc....
Also, you are not restoring Amplify settings from the download page? Are you able to connect to other routers?
The router is assigning you the same up address each time because your Mac address isn't being changed when you flash new Rom (Mac address is unique 12 digit number, hard coded into the radio on your phone. It should stay the same. You can change it temporarily by spoofing. Do not pay attention to this though, it is for info only, just so you know what's happening )
Your router recognises the Mac address of the phone and issues it the same ip address that's been given before, by dhcp.

Well I was wrong. I just tried this app and it doesn't seem to work with our device.
I said in my post, I was explaining, just for info.
It'll likely be some erroneous setting in his sky router. Sky are well known for issuing appalling hardware with their connections(and forcing customers to use them by refusing to give adsl login details, so people can use their own supplied hardware)
Another poster asked if op has the same issue using other routers - I'll bet that it's just with this one router.

If that is the problem then an app called "Change my MAC - Spoof WiFi MAC" can be used for what its name suggests.

Well I was wrong. I just tried this app and it doesn't seem to work with our device.

An alternative would be Pry-Fi. Idk maybe Matt can try it and see if it helps.
Also, you are not restoring Amplify settings from the download page? Are you able to connect to other routers?

When I flash a clean install of the ROM I use titanium backup to restore all my apps and data (including Amplify) Do you think this could be an issue?? So far the "fix" using legacy DCHP in developer options has seemed to be working... been on for 8+ hours yesterday and a couple so far today and has not done it (yet) ...

Thanks very much for explaining this to me, I didn't know it was hard wired into the phone and explains why its not changing lol

Thanks for the info! I appreciate your help Do you think there is anything I can do? I can log into my SKY router but not sure what I can change, I have not tried to log into any other wifi yet, I can get internet absolutely fine on my SKY router. What happens is after a couple of hours or so I notice I am not getting any internet on my phone and I have an exclamation mark on my WIFI Symbol, so I turn it off and on, reboot etc.. and it comes right for a while then happens again so its intermittent.. Like i said above so far its been ok using legacy DCHP in developer options but im not 100% convinced as yet..
i am not sure if this helps any but you know when you first flash your rom and android starts for the first time and you go through the welcome screen, choose language etc.. I notice when i select my WIFI and enter my password it briefly (slit second) shows "Connected No internet" but then does the usual obtaining IP address etc....

I don;t know anyone with fibre, who has SKY as their ISP.
If you like, I can have a look at your router settings, via teamviewer on your computer.
PM me if you want me to have a look
Well still having the issues!
I have clean flashed MIUI Global ROM and still have the issue, I have now put AOSP ROM Back on as its sooooo much better than MIUI as I can safely say its nothing to do with the phone itself and seems to be a router/phone settings issue but i still dont really know what to do..
Over the last week or so I have noticed workmen looking at out local green fibre box and wondering if it is an issue with the line so I might give SKY a ring and see whats the issue.

Just to give you guys a bit of an update...
I have just got of the phone with SKY now and they have asked me to change the channel from auto to channel 13 and also to select WPA/WPA2-PSK.
As i was on the phone to them my phone did the "connected no internet" thing and i used my laptop to make the changes to the router and after a few seconds my phone connected again so I am hoping that this may have fixed the issue! Fingers crossed!
Still doing it! So I have installed EPIC ROM and my router has given a different ip address so fingers crossed it wont do it anymore, been a few hours and so far so good...
totally late to this, but i'm facing the same problem on my redmi y2. the router that i'm using is TP Link archer C50. no custom rom or anything. please help
li faced a similar problem as my phone won't detect wifi signal from my router, i reset my phone but only after 15 minutes my phone can't detect signal from my router but problem solved when i switched aeroplane mode on and than off as soon as i switched it off wifi signal was detected and my phone got connected to it. Sometimes it shows no internet i switch aeroplane mode on & than off and it starts to work again or it gets fixed automatically too. You can try too it may help.
