Having issues with roms lately. Some roms won't even give me 2 hours of battery life. (Maybe 4 hours even in standby!!)
Talked to Motorola over the phone they think maybe it's the battery, they sent me a free one but I still have the same issues.
Sometimes I look at my phone and it has already been drained. Then I see that standby has taken up 75% of the battery. Like wtf lol.
So the question is, what is the best ROM for battery life?

Make sure you install bluesleep fix if the rom you are using doesn't have it....
For me the best results have: "old" ALIEN and CM7 !!!
CM7 - 1day and 27minutes with 7hours and 28minutes screen on (30-35% luminoziti)

Seeing as it happens with every ROM, you may try to calibrate your battery, it may help. Download 'Battery Calibration' app from the Play Store and follow the in-app instructions. I always calibrate mine after changing ROMs exactly because problems like yours happened to me in the past.

That app does not calibrate the battery. All it does reset the previous battery usage graphic table.

But it helps. If I don't do it, after 2~3 flashes of different ROMs I start to have huge drops (staying at ~80% for 6 hours, then instantly dropping to 20%) or the system misreads the actual battery capacity (turning off with at least 30% battery remaining, for example).
Have you tried wiping battery stats?...
Charge the phone as far as it will go (lets say over night)(also if you need to plug the phone into the charger after it has charged over night without the battery in it so you get he battery with a question mark, then put the battery in and it should show like 5% battery or something then let that charge as long as it will, which is usually around 15% if i remember correctly), then wipe battery stats in cwm or whatever way you prefer. Reboot the phone and use it until it is completely dead (0% battery and the phone shuts itself off and wont turn back on, but do not try to drain the battery using video loops or anything, just use it like you normally do. Then charge it up to 100% but do not turn it on, let it stay on the charging screen until it gets to 100% and dont use or unplug it at all. It should take longer to get from 99% to 100%, just be patient Hopefully that solves the issue.

I just flashed KaosFroyo v34 a couple days ago. Coming from stock 2.1, I have noticed that the battery life on my eris is nothing like what it used to be. My battery runs out VERY quickly. I have heard that KaosFroyo has great battery life so am I doing something wrong? Any suggestionson how to get better battery life?

Did you recalibrate your battery? This is an important step, to do this charge your battery to a full charge (turn your phone off and charge at least 1 hour after the led turns green) boot into recovery, wipe bat stats, unplug your phone and run until it turns itself off, try to reboot, if you can reboot run until the phone dies and repeat until the phone will not boot, connect charger and fully charge, let drain again and you should be calibrated.

I would try the recalibration as mentioned before...or if you want to try something quicker, you could run v32 and see if that makes a difference for you.

holy crap thats a lot of work to calibrate for me since my phones calibration is off aswell but not by that far, with a full charge im able to run music for about 8-12 hours or so, so i think im good. Only reason i think my calibration is off is that even when my phone shows green the charge says only 87% and i can still let it continue to 100% the phone is not stopping that. But would it be a good idea for me to re-calibrate the battery?

I would try re-calibrating your battery. Try this which is straight from my MIUI guide.... (I suggest method 2 as it is the easiest)....
RECONDITION YOUR BATTERY
AFTER FLASHING IF YOU FIND THAT YOU HAVE BAD BATTERY LIFE TRY ONE OF THE METHODS BELOW TO FIX:
Method One:
Use phone till it dies on its own, completely dead.
Charge phone completely, plus 30 minutes longer.
Unplug phone from charger
Reconnect, you'll notice it's not full, charge till it is again.
This is bump charging and NOT something you want to do often, a few times is okay, in my opinion. You could skip the bump charge if you like.
Phone remains plugged in.
Boot into recovery (volumes + power)
Advanced > wipe battery stats, reboot.
Use phone till it's literally about to shut off (or does) Charge till full + Use phone like normal

Method Two:

Tell me if this works for you...
A real battery capped to charge at 96% or 97% due to voltage issues that would occur if charged to complete 100%. But samsungs stock ROMS and most other ROMS are customized to display this 100% when its really not at that level. Since MIUI is based off of CM7(and this is uncredited of course), it is not modified in any way and it displays the actual battery life. Which in your case is 96%. Hope this helps.

If I keep my phone on charging even after its on 100%, it starts rolling back. As in from 100 to 99 then 98, even if its pluggen in.
Don't know what kind of a problem this is, hardware or software.
Or there's some issue with the battery.
Please help.

Sometimes I have the same problem. I dont know if it is caused of a program running in a background or what, but reboot helps

I know the reboot helps.
But usually I put it on charging at night before sleeping.
And when I wake up in the morning, the battery % becomes even less than what it was when i plugged it in.
I'm usually in a hurry then to leave for college in the morning . Can't go to college with battery % less than even 10

Maybe You have some program that syncs something all the time. Did You try to turn off data and wifi. You can always check it if the reason is the hardware or Software. Just make a backup of Your whole ROM, delete the data and leave the phone over night. I hope it is only software problem.
EDIT: Does Your battery go hot while charging? Oh, and try to wipe battery stats

Yes, my battery does get hot while charging.
And I did wipe the battery stats but its of no use.

Maybe there is really some program that is causing that. I had this problem rarely so I never cared. I had one program called Batterymonitor or sth. like that and it was the reason. Do You have such a program, that shows Your battery level or temperature?

Yes, I have setcpu and rom toolbox.
But would these applications really cause this problem?

The x10 charges the battery to full then if still plugged in it will stop charging until batt drains to set level ,then will charge to full again and over and over all night. X10 wont over charge batt when left plugged in. Kernel/bootloader handle this. There is an app current widget that can log charge levels.
EDIT: I had a tip on charging here but removed it after further research read more about batt here..

I do this about once a month, when phone starts to shut off around 15%

As mentioned above as well, this is normal. After charging to 100%, the phone stops battery charging, and will activate charging again only when battery falls a bit (say 97%). Also, battery heating while on charging (and also when using the phone continuously while playing a game) is normal. Relax.. your phone is fine

I am having the same issue with battery... phone switching off at 15%, even at 22-23%, when playing a game or something. But switching it back on, and leaving it idle, phone might run for another 2 hours. So it is the extra load while running a game that the phone cant take any longer (i remember getting the 15%,10% and 5% reminders earlier while playing games)...? Does the battery calibrate method actually help in your case? does it go all the way down to 0% or 1% before shutting down.. ?
I just did this after posting that. And yes my phone reported warnings @ 25% 15 10 5 and then shutdown @ 1%.
This way is like reconditioning an old rechargeable ni-cad batt.
All this does is completey drain batt then, with least amount of drainage (phone on, apps& radios running) allows battery to full charge.
There is also a way called recalibrate battery. But this way over charges the batt.
EDIT: I think the phone load will effect reported batt left. I think batt gage use average loads to estimate remaining power. Meaning games, full brightness of LCD, radios -3g -GPS -WiFi -Bluetooth will use more than avg power
edit 2: I found this thread also has some very good points and links. after reading this i will not intentionally take my batt to 0%. I hit 0% about 1-2 times a month on accident as it is. i will just make sure when i do go 0% to wipe stats (dont know if it helps or not) then preform a long (overnight) full charge with phone off.

I'm running CleanROM Reborn 1.1, I love it! Other info is also in my signature. Once I turned on the percentage number for my battery level, I really started to notice this.
The number will stay at a number for awhile sometimes, even when I use it, then other times it will jump several points within a minute. It doesn't drain consistently. Anyone have any insight or suggestions? It's more annoying than anything else. My battery life is alright.
I would've tried wiping battery stats, but I hear that doesn't really do anything.

Im going to try this but for some reason mine only go to about 96%. Never 100% lately so I am not sure if I should do it then or just leave it charged until it is 100% and hope it gets there.

Not to hijack the thread, but the phone is designed to fully charge and then discharge to 95% and then charge to 100% again, rinse, and repeat. This is to keep the battery from becoming destroyed by overcharging. Maybe that's what you are seeing, Bambino.

I've noticed this too on Ics leak roms. It sips power with screen off, then drains quickly when on sometimes and hardly at all other times. Mine just sat at 82% for the past 20 minutes, then dropped to 76% over the past five. I've heard battery calibration is bunk, but I'll try the previously mentioned app and see.
Some roms do not use a percentage because they are so inaccurate and cause the user to obsess

A little info on batteries
The important thing to remember about Lithium Ion batteries is that when you do charge them, bring them up to full charge before taking them off the charger.
They all have a circuit board in them that remembers a full charge. (If you've every taken one apart you'd see this) When you charge them this chip will restore the amount of power that has drained.
Partially charging them will screw up this function. And screw up the battery.
Deep Cycling is good for them but not all the time. Once a month is good for them.
A good rule of thumb, but not absolutely necessary is to discharge them 50% and then bring them up to a full charge. Obviously this is not always possible when playing video games or watching movies. I always try to leave it on the charger when watching movies in the cradle.
There is an app on the Market called Battery Repair. It makes an attempt to reset this chip on the battery by meticulous monitoring the charge and capacity left in the battery. Running diagnostics and setting the battery to its best state. Its the only one out there that does this.
Battery Calibration app is good if you change roms or batteries alot.
Here is what it does:
Calibration needs to be done after flashing a new ROM, but you can calibrate any time you think your battery is miscalibrated. This program does it by removing the batterystats.bin system file. The OS generates a new clean batterystats file soon, thus any fake information from the previous ROM is removed.
It's suggested, but not necessary, to let the phone fully discharge after calibration, then charged to 100% without break.
The app shows your actual battery status, and only allows you to start the calibration (i.e. removes the file) when it's fully charged, unless you force earlier calibration.
The voltage meter can be useful too. Full charge is around 4200mV.
I charged my phone during the night to 100% and used it for a bit this morning. I went to the beach for the day, and left my phone at home. Upon returning (roughly 5 hours later) my screen was stuck on the ATT splash.
I looked at my battery usage to see if anything strange had happened, and I was greeted with the attached image.
I am currently running stock ICS 4.0.3 from ATT. Rooted with Kernal version 3.0.35-Siyah-v3.4.2. I do have a lot of widgets on my home screen, but I have had this same setup for more than 2 weeks and nothing like this has ever happened before.
Pleas let me know if you need any more details. Any and all help is appreciated.

Download batery calibration app from market, charge until you get 4200mv, disconnect charge, calibrate then after succesful calibrate restart phone then dont shutdown until you get force shutdown.
If you cant get 4200mv, wait to the highest value then calibrate
Anyway your signals are very low, it will be drain battery rly fast, try make them highet and keep wifi shutdown

Why does low signal strength quickly discharge the battery? Also does this explain for the gaps in the battery info or is it something else?
Our phones do not require battery calibration. Have you installed betterbatterystats, and watchdog? If not, install them and see if it happens again. I can tell you that it's not the official update that's the problem, as I had it installed for a few days. Almost gotta be a rogue app. You could also try switching kernels just to see if it helps.

I had a similar incident today running stock 4.0.3. no root. Phone went black. Once I noticed it, I restarted it which it didn't want to do at first. Went to the battery stats and it looks similar to yours. Battery level showed about a 50% drop. Never had that happen before.
Well I am going to try the first suggestion and see if that helps. I'll report back later.
It seemed that the first option worked pretty well. I let my phone sit for 8hrs today, and the battery only discharged to 87%.

Probably kuz it didn't reboot. It looks like your phone rebooted quite a few times for whatever reason, back to back, possibly got stuck in some boot loops too. Id call it a fluke unless it happens again.
And there is no "calibrating" our battery. If you reboot at lower capacities it'll come back substantially lower and then correct itself slowly over time. Its just how our meter works (voltage reading vs mah counter)
