I read this on xda using the SG11, I was bored and tried it. Added it to the bottom of the buildprop. It is giving me H+ in an area where I hardly got H. Did speed test and it went from an average of around 2.5 to almost 4 at times. Just remember to save a copy of your original buildprop in a safe place before doing it and fix permission at the end. I'm also using the ATT LTE setting also. If it actually does anything, who knows, but my H+ is on more then it was in the past.

I tried this on two different towers connected to hsdpa+ and if anything I am getting 1/2 mb less.
Changing my APN makes no difference. Maybe its a regional thing. I'm in metro Detroit and the second tower I tested was in Dearborn.
4mb with normal build.prop
3.5mb with modified build.prop

Yes, it's mixed. I never put much thought about speed test, it has to many variables and isn't consistent. All I know is I have better signal in areas that I got crap in the past. I read that the setting are supposed to make sure you are getting the best service available at the time, not to guarantee lighting speed. That makes sense.

I tried the last 3, but saw no difference in speed on regular 4G or LTE (testing 3 times with and without the tweaks and averaging the results...all from the same testing host), and for good reasons. ro.ril.gprsclass shouldn't make a difference to any of us unless we have no 3G, 4G or LTE service. This only defines the speed class for EDGE, which should already be at maximum for this phone anyway. ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix doesn't affect speed at all, it is a cosmetic change that would (if it's even used anymore) apply "3G" text to the carrier in the status bar (e.g. AT&T 3G instead of AT&T). From what I've read, ro.ril.hsxpa only goes to 2, and that is enabled anyway. The hsdpa and hsupa categories are already defined for our phones, for the hardware that we have. Telling the phone it's capable of something faster doesn't mean it is.
I think any increases in speed or reliability are a result of constantly changing network conditions, and purely coincidental. A bit of a placebo effect probably isn't out of question either.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that ro.ril.enable.dtm can decrease the performance of EDGE connections, this enables dual-transfer mode for capable networks (simultaneous voice and data).
Holy crap, this worked REALLY well for me. I did speed tests before & after & I saw a major increase in download speed. Before was about 15mbps, after was 19-25. Nice!

same here except i dont even have 3g around my house anymore. been on 1x since wednesday yet sprint continues to say theres nothing wrong with the towers in my area and that its my phones. sorry sprint but i dont believe all 3 of my phones and tablet just suddenly crapped out on the same day to use only 1x and only in the areas around my house. 2 miles down the road there back on 3g.
I knew I wasn't going crazy!! Same here!!
I was pulling 50-150kbps usually and I noticed my 3G data was going in and out like mad so I talked to the dudes at Best Buy and they said they'd been having issues with their Sprint phones and activating them. Turns out they found out that Sprint's been messing with the towers in my area and have been working on getting 4G brought to my city, and now my data speeds are INSANE.
On 3G yesterday I pulled 960 kbps with Speedtest, and consistently pull 500-800kbps. Definitely kicking ass now.
Just did a speed test, this is absolute garbage. I am getting 88 kbps download. What the hell am I suppose to do with that? And how is this not grounds for getting out of your contract for free? I rather have a data cap but usable 3G speeds.
I've had better.. but this is the norm.
Speeds are getting better but when will sprint get a power house device like the amaze... I mean we do have the S3 processor but if this thing could record in 1080p with a 2mp ffc and 8mp rear camera all would be good. I don't understand why they don't aim to completely top the last device...

i have noticed a huge jump in 3G as well... out here in sacramento CA. i stay up pretty late, and the last few weeks at odd hours of the night my network speeds will just take a dive or cut out entirely for several hours. then it's right back in the morning.
i have also noticed i am getting 4g in more areas. i used to always have to turn my 4g antenna off while on my way to work because it would cut out... now i get solid reception on my way to work when on wimax.
my 3g speeds have always been pretty good though. and 4g as well
it is obvious to me they are expanding
I think after the past few months my service has gone downhill badly and I think I have finally decided to move on to Verizon where I will get what I pay for, I have been paying for premium data with sprint and the only way I get data is over wifi, and I'm done. Hope you guys don't wait too long before you make your decisions.

Does anyone know if AT&T still plans on enabling 64QAM on their HSPA+ network(if they haven't already)? Or have they decided to ditch evolved HSPA+ in favor of LTE? I love my Galaxy s2, but sucks I can't take advantage of the HSPA+ 21mbps radio, especially considering there will not be LTE here in Detroit anytime soon.

They are still using 16QAM which effectively limits your speeds at 14.4mbps in theory. The latest I've heard is they will not be upgrading to 64QAM and they expect their users to fall back to 14.4mbps capable HSPA+
Totally sucks that T-Mobile users have been rocking 64QAM since last year.

I get full wimax signal at my house still mixed results there. I never use it here since I have wi-fi. Ran a few tests just for kicks anywhere from 2 on the low end to 6+ on the high. When it first came here use to pull 10+ everytime.
God I can't wait for wimax to go, funny there is an ad in speedtest for verizon that says want an LTE network? Yes I do. Sprints 3G is good when it actually works, it use to be the best around not so much anymore. I would be way ok with CONSISTENT speeds of 1,000+ I just want enough to run rhapsody and pandora. EVDO rev B would be a nice upgrade, I hope we see it sometime along with LTE.
I would say haven't noticed any faster speeds at home, but hopefully when I'm out and about it is a little more consistent.

Try updating your PRL, and if that doesn't work you can try switching the network mode to CDMA only in the mobile network settings menu. If you're rooted you can also use MSL reader off the market to get your MSL, or call sprint and ask for it, then dial ##DATA# and change your EVDO mode to CDMA HDR only. If using MSL reader, for some reason it only works if you install, uninstall and reinstall again.
I got more consistent 1mbps speeds, up from 500~, in the san francisco area, I don't know if they're messing around with the towers over here, but there has been reports from people that these workarounds should force the phone to stop trying to flip between EVDO and LTE

For reference, I have a generally poor signal here (at home) and didn't expect much of an improvement, if any. In an attempt to rule out network load variables, I ran five tests using the Speedtest app before and after the update, all within about 20 minutes. Here are the results:

Although it appears that both up- and down-load speeds have increased, I'm a little hesitant to conclude it is because of the radio. There is a huge variance in results in both sets of data and not being a statistician, I'm not sure how to interpret them. Also of note, my ping actually went UP, which seems unusual considering the speeds improvements. Anyway, if anyone else want to share their results, it might be nice to have them all in one thread.
Seriously! :good: idk why 4G came on but OK!

I live just outside of Washington dc and my speeds have dropped since the OTA update. Has this happened to anyone else? I have also updated my prl and profile with a reboot and no dice. First pic is before 2nd is after.

Your download results are not statistically significant at the 95% confidence level (nor even the 90% confidence level). This means that it's not unlikely enough that you'd get those results by random fluctuation in the observations.
Your upload results are, however, statistically significant. There's a probability of 0.0078 (0.78% chance) that you'd get those results by random chance.
So ultimately, we can conclude that the new radios at least don't hurt download speeds, and are likely to improve upload speeds.
^^^statistics ftw

Mine have dropped as well. I'm in Reno, NV. but I noticed that my wifi is worse as well. Is that connected to the radio as well? My wifi its usually between 10-12mbkps.

Not bad! Not only did your data speeds increase, but it made your picture larger!

Haha. Small time.
Yes, my 3G is so bad at home that I can't even run a test.
my results are about the same
yellow box are tests prior to the new firmware/radios. red box are tests after the flash.
BTW, I'm running MeanROM ICS 1.4 (OTA 1.22.651.3) and firmware 1.22.651.3
My upload definitely improved.
