I researched about the matter, and reached some conclusions:
- I don't want to use the TEST POINTER method, I really don't care about OTA updates or Track ID app (as far as I know there are no more consequences), Shazam and Soundhound do the same
- I would like to unlock the bootloader in some manner that, if I need to relock the warranty will still be valid (same goes for root, but I guess flashing an original firmware unroots the device)
That said, found the official instructions to unlock the BL, but still have the main question: is it the procedure completely reversible? Also, is it free?
Thanks in advance. Also really appreciate if someone corrects something wrong I said.

you can still relock your bootloader and receive official sony updates, but the problem is, you loose DRM(in which if sony finds out, you still lose warranty).
i found this thread and said that DRM cannot be restored :/
I don't know about non free relocking if it will be able to restore DRM though.
oh and by the way, this thread provides the easiest way to unlock and relock your bootloader for free.
goodluck and enjoy
DRM cannot be restored at all.
Install TrackID from market and it will work.
Bootloader can be relocked, doesn't matter how you unlocked.
And yes, it is free.

Ok, so I suppose the DRM Keys only affect the OTA updates (how should we care if we are unlocking BL for custom ROMs
So, I suppose if I have a problem on my Live (but it still turns on), I apply an OFW and then relock it, it's a matter of luck if the techical assistance is going to check if the DRM is still valid or not.
What method do you advice to unlock the BL?

Method, pick which is better for you. I used official method, no messing with cables.

Unlock it the way you prefer to it does not matter it will lose warranty any way it is just luck if they will check it or not at the service center. Any way it is really hard to completely brick your phone unless you don't know what you are doing. The main difference is with the test point method you are able to update using seus without problems and it looks more complicated than it really is I only used a clip
just a question about unlocking thru official method.
since you would have to get the unlock key directly from Sony.
would they be able to track your phone since you will be giving them some details like your name, IMEI, email etc. to get the unlock code?
do the service centers have access to that database?
There are no Sony Mobile Service Centers, phones need to be taken back to shop and they use service of specific mobile repair shop.
Depending on what reason you need to take it back, they might want to check it or not. No one has so far done this, so we have no information.
What is DRM and Track ID ?
I want to unlock bootloader my phone, but I am still confused, what is the risk of a official bootloader from sony ? What is DRM and Track ID ? what is its usefulness for wt19i?
sorry my english is not good

There is no risk either way the difference is that with the official method you will lose your drm (Digital rights management) and the official support of track id (the app from se that you use to search for the info of a song playing in the radio or the tv etc.) meanwhile using the test point method you will not lose them. If you want to install a custom rom like cm9 or miui you need to unlock your bootloader to be able to flash the custom kernels those roms need.

Thanks in advance for all helpfull answers.
I just want to understand the following. Some Live's come with "unlock bootloader allowed"="no" others ="yes". What does that means and more important: what are the implications?
I cannot understand the difference because as fair as I understand right now, all live's (branded/sim unlocked or not) are unlockable (referring to bootloader).

When they come with boot loader unlock : no it is a branded sim locked phone in which case you can unlock bootloader but you will have no access to fastboot meaning you are unable to flash a custom kernel, also there will be no way you can officially unlock the bootloader so will have to use the test point method and of course you will need to pay to fully unlock your phone to be able to access fastboot and flash custom kernels.
Did I miss something??

So, for sim locked branded phones ("no")
- To unlock the bootloader: test point method
- Access fastboot: use (and pay) through wotan server
Am I right? I never though that was two different problems.

I'm not really sure about Wotan server however I'm pretty sure about setool and omnius and if you are willing to pay the phone will be fully unlocked (bootloader, sim and fastboot) with one procedure using the test point method.

So, I'm curious, if I have branded sim lock Live ("no" bootloader) can I install an original firmware without using an official channel? Do I need fastboot access?
I'm asking because I'm almost sure that my carrier will not update the Live to 4.0, so I suppose I have to use some other tool in order to install it.

you can debrand (install a generic firmware) your phone using wotan server for free and as i know it will also change your product code so next time and official sony update is available your phone will get it.

another noob question from me
can i relock BL from test point method?
n do i have to flash stock kernel before relock?
i'm using rage kernel right now.

Please, i relock my bootloader, i had unlocked it but i decided to lock it again.
How can I test, how to know if everything is ok? If I did right?
In line Xperia ARC when unlock the bootloader, the Track ID stopped working, when the relock bootloader again, he returned to work.
Xperia in S there is the same way to verify this? Or have some other way to make sure everything is ok with the bootloader? Because I want to receive updates from ICS by PCC or OTA.
Thanks for attention.
Just check it in the service menu.

Connect your phone to pc and open PCC, then click on update phone, it'll take few moments and should say no update available or your phone has updated software or something like that...!!! If it says, you are running modified software or something like that then its not locked...!!! Try relocking...!!!

Ok. I have searched for hours and hours with no result. I have a Sony Ericsson X10a ATT labeled phone. i got it booting to the Xperia logo and no further. I was able to get the global generic x10i rom flashed to it so it would at least boot into android. it does not have a signal and says the sim will not work with att network. what ive done:
Flashed Global generic x10i 2.1a rom with flashtool 0.8 (the only stock firmware link that works)
Rooted with flashtool
s1tool reports NOT RECOGNIZED SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE
Ive tried to force SPCC to flash stock rom
Update service says its up to date
I can get it into flashmode no problem, it does boot normally into android, i can get into recovery with cwm5
it has no signal as of now.
Flashtool reports it as rooted.
I need to get this thing at least back to stock and working with a north american at&t sim card. if i can get a custom rom, great, if not ill deal with stock. if its SOL, its going thru the chipper
my hat is off to developers and programmers but I can do without the "you should of done this or that." i really appreciate any help. i just need to get it working thanks in advance

the problem isnt the stock firmware.
I the problem is you tried to unlock bootloader for a sim locked phone and because of that it has messed up.
AS you have got NOT RECOGNIZED SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE in s1tool you shouldnt have tried to unlock bootloader,
I am sorry I have no other ideas for it.
I advise to contact in this thread.

If you have NOT RECOGNIZED SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE in s1tool then you shouldnt unlock bootloader. If u do so you lose your signal which cannot be recovered by usual flashing methods like going to stock.

Try flashmode a new firmware. That should fix it.
I flashed new fw and new kernel, but it still wont connect. I don't know what to do. Will help if I will lock BL back and try unlock again??

you may have a faulty wifi circuit
Lock your bootloader and repair the phone using pc companion,if wifi still not working that means hardware problem.

Or delete the security from the router try if it works, if it does set security password again

So what percentage of people here with ZU GPE have broken, malfunctioning camera after the 4.4.3 update?
Anybody find out the cause of failure?
What are the chances that the upcoming 4.4.4 will fix this issue?
It is comforting to know that I am not the only one with a broken camera, but it is so frustrating because there isn't much discussion going on this forum.
Cant add much except 4.4.4 won't fix the camera issue by it's self, it will need other patches above what's in 4.4.4

Different camera issue
My camera is broken going from 4.4.2 - 4.4.3.
4.4.2 State
------------------
- Rooted, stock kernel.
- Unlocked boot loader
4.4.3 State
------------------
- Non-rooted, stock kernel.
- Unlocked boot loader.
Same here. Broken ass camera. My phone is basically a giant useless tablet.
I would love to know if people with locked bootloaders have the camera issue as well going into 4.4.3. Unlocking the boot loader normally wipes DRM keys and unless memory fails me, the xperia Z1's camera broke once the boot loader was unlocked. I am wondering if this may have something to do...

If DRM keys being wiped were responsible for the camera breakage, then revering back to 4.4.2 should not bring camera back to life.
Now that the 4.4.4 OTA is released without the camera fix, I really wonder if this broken camera issue will ever be fixed.
I thought the main point of GPE devices were ease of unlocking bootloaders. Google and Sony have totally messed it up if unlocking bootloader killed the camera.

So are you saying even if I relock they won't replace it?
Also I can't recall reading anywhere about drm keys on GPe.
Edit... There is a warning that you may loose DRM keys when unlocking boot loader, I had forgotten about it.
Well relocking bootloader and updating to 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 still leaves camera broken.
I have owned two GPE versions. The first one I unlocked bootloader and rooted straight away and updated to 4.4.3 after that my camera broke, the wireless display stopped working, and i couldn't use GPS while connected to bluetooth. I RMA'd that one and received a second unit, and i left it stock and didn't unlock bootloader and didn't root, it updated itself to 4.4.3 and everything functions. So I suspect that unlocking the bootloader is what screws with our phones. My problem is that i NEED root to use ARU (AppRadio Unchained lets me use my Pioneer in-car touchscreen to control my phone). Is there anyway to root without unlocking the bootloader? If we can replace our recovery without unlocking the bootloader i think we can achieve this.

You returned it to Google without issue? Towelroot reported working for GPe on 4.4.3 and if I understand correctly it works for locked bootloaders. See post #5 of this thread it was posted before the Sony specific tool was posted so I believe the standard apk was used.

Well, I am not saying it is the case, but drm keys being wiped and stuff stopping to work has been commonplace in the Z series ever since the Z was introduced. Also, if memory serves me well, I could have sworn that someone said that X-reality goes bye bye as soon as the bootloader is unlocked.
Having said that, these updates are looking for something that they find in locked bootloaders and that is obviously missing in unlocked ones. Hence, my suggestion for the Drm keys.
One other thought popped into my head yesterday. Back in my evo 3d days, we had an issue where if the correct hboot was not present, the Rom would simply not boot. Something else to consider.... I am leaning towards the drm being responsible though.

One other thought popped into my head yesterday. Back in my evo 3d days, we had an issue where if the correct hboot was not present, the Rom would simply not boot. Something else to consider.... I am leaning towards the drm being responsible though.

This is interesting... 4.4 on the zu kept x-reality working if the bootloader was unlocked on 4.4
In GPe I don't think x-reality ever stopped working when the BL was unlocked
The next test I guess is to use the new root method, back up TA/DRM keys and then unlock on 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 and see if the camera breaks, then restore the TA and see if that fixes the issue.
After the **** with the Z1 and the broken camera on unlocked BL you would think that they would't make the same mistake again
Has anybody ever been successful at resuscitating the dead camera once it started malfunctioning (besides downgrading to 4.4.2).
I have read a couple of people mentioning that their camera was fixed. @DooMLoRD and @MrSewerPickle.
Could you please share with us how it was done???
